The Festival Spiegeltent returns to Crescent Gardens as a pop-up venue as part of the Festivals’ HIF+ programme. SATURDAY 10 SEPTEMBER

9.30-10.30am Hilary Robinson: Mixed Up Fairytales From Three Pigs and a Gingerbread Man to Hansel and Gretel and the Ugly Duckling, join children’s author Hilary Robinson and hear about her best-selling fairytale jumbles. Ages 3-8

Mac and Bob: The Party Problem
Join Mac the farmer (author Alan Windram) along with his dog and best friend Bob as they solve the ultimate party problem! Expect lots of fun, audience participation, drawings, story-telling and specially-written sing-along songs. And look out for the flying carrots! Ages 3-6

Tales from Africa
Join storyteller Mara Menzies on an interactive, rollercoaster adventure across Africa. Discover the legend of magnificent Moon, how the tortoise got his cracked shell and why chicken ventured into the deep dark forest. Ages 4-7

Explorers wanted! Are you are ready to discover some of the most incredible stories in the world? Join storyteller Mara Menzies for a madcap journey across the globe, with everything from encounters with a dragon to what happened to the world’s most disobedient boy! Ages 6+

History’s Maid: Sagas of the Vikings!
Travel back in time to the 9th Century! Experience the magic of Viking Sagas and poetry. Our skald (a Viking storyteller) will help you understand the importance of stories of gods, giants and heroes in Viking society. Ages 7-11

History’s Maid: Have A Go At Sword School
Do you know your thrust from your parry, your rapier from your broadsword? Try History’s Maid’s swashbuckling workshop and see if you have got what it takes to be a medieval warrior! Ages 5+ SPECIAL OFFER: Buy tickets for both History’s Maid sessions for £8 Child. £8 Adult

Join us as we bring this classic tale to life through creative movement and play. Be ‘pre-beared’ and bring your favourite teddy bear along with you! Everybody loves dinosaurs! Perfect your growl, stomp your feet and join in with interactive storytimes, songs and games in this event especially created for under 5s and their grown - ups. ROOOOAAARRRR! Ages 18 months-4 years Free adult with child

Seven Stories: Daydreamer
Join the dreamer on a journey through adventure and imagination, based on the work of Michael Morpurgo. Where will you go? What will you do? Anything can happen! Ages 3-8
2.30-3.15pm Craig Bradley: That Poetry Bloke This creative workshop will combine poetry, music, imagination and comedy, encouraging lots of audience participation and fun. Write, and then perform, your very own lyrics with Craig’s expert guidance! Ages 7-11
3.30-4.15pm Wacky Witty Wordfun Join author Andy Seed for an hour of family fun. There will be amazing facts, jokes, riddles, games, wacky words, punny poems, nutty names, challenges and activities to join in with. Find out just how much fun non-fiction can be! Ages 7-11
5-6pm
Professor Pumpernickel’s Superdooper Science Show
Roll up, roll up and witness the greatest show on Earth. Starring exotic chemical compounds, unfathomable physics phenomena and some really rubbish jokes all mixed up with a German scientist as your host. Ages 5+
