PRESIDENT’S LETTER

Dear Fellow Members,

With the celebration of commencement and Alumni Day, the 2023/2024 academic year has ended at Harvard. Thank you to our partners at the University for their numerous collaborative efforts to make this a memorable and fun year at the Club. In particular, many thanks to the Harvard Alumni Association, Harvard Athletics, Harvard Varsity Club, and American Repertory Theatre for their partnerships with us. Our strengthened connection with the University has enhanced the member experience at the HCB.

This has been a challenging year for Harvard but that did not dampen the excitement of commencement as over 9,000 graduates were welcomed to the company of educated people and the Harvard alumni community. We’ve had a record number of new alumni join our HCB community. Please greet and welcome them as you encounter them throughout the summer. We are very happy that they chose to join our club and we are delighted to have them as members of the HCB family. Many thanks to Becky Blaeser, Cheryl Moderski, Jackie Deschamps, Carolyn Longden, Dan Farmer and Darius Howell from our Club’s Member Experience Team along with Valerie Phillips in our Athletic Department for all their work onboarding, orientating and engaging our new members.

With the advent of summer, our event schedule becomes less robust as our members are vacationing and our hard-working Member Experience staff will begin planning for an amazing 2024/2025. The Bulletin will also take a respite and will return in September. As you begin your travels between Memorial Day and Labor Day, please tag us on your social media platforms. Please share images of your meet ups with other members during your summer adventures. When you’re in town, our Member Experience team has planned some exciting events for fun and fellowship during the summer season.

HCB members Scott Abell ‘72 and Lee Pelton, Ph.D. ’84 received their Harvard Medals at Harvard Alumni Day on May 31. Thank you both for your dedicated service to the University. The honor bestowed upon you is so well deserved. Congratulations Scott and Lee! HCB member Ty Moore ’06 completes his term as President of the Harvard Alumni Association at the end of this month. Ty served as a passionate and thoughtful leader in the midst of difficult events and unforeseen circumstances. Thank you Ty, we are forever grateful for your service on behalf of the Harvard alumni community.

As a member of the greatest alumni network in the world, thank you for filling our Club with a spirit of unity and congeniality, respect and kindness. Your loyalty and support make us thrive as a community, onward together. If you have questions or suggestions, please contact me directly at president@harvardclub.com.

Dear Harvard Club of Boston Membership:

June is one of the most exciting months for all of us in the Havard Club of Boston community. We are fresh off the excitement and wonder of celebrating the graduates of the Class of 2024 from Harvard College and all the graduate schools. It is a time when we welcome the next generation of HCB members into our family and begin cultivating lasting relationships and forging exciting memories together.

As stewards of Harvard and the philosophies that have built the strongest alumni community in the world, it is incumbent upon each of us to welcome the hundreds of new members whether it is at our monthly cocktail social that will be taken on the road this summer or if you run into them while enjoying a dining experience in Veritas.

Speaking of Veritas, the recent announcement of the upgraded renovation of the Lounge will commence later this month. We are thrilled about the new design and are committed to delivering a more fun, vibrant, and casual, but elegant atmosphere where members can spend the day working, reading, and enjoying a delicious meal or snack. In the evening, it will have a more upscale city vibe that will be perfect for a date night or cocktail social with your friends.

With the summer months providing an excellent opportunity to explore New England and head out of town for weekend getaways, we want to encourage you to stay connected and engaged with us here at the club. One way you will be able

to do this is going to be with our newly designed website which is going to be released soon. It will provide a range of new features that will enhance the user experience, providing our members with easier navigation, quicker access to resources, elevated visuals, and personalized content tailored to your needs.

Your health and wellness are important to us, and we have invested in a four-part virtual workshop led by rxResource. This series will address effective ways to improve your everyday life and the topics will include: Gut Health, Stress & Mindset, Protecting Your Sleep, and Back Health. We encourage you to participate in this complimentary workshop.

Please feel free to contact me directly at scummings@harvardclub.com or (617) 450-8400 if I can be of service to you!

Sincerely,

Kearney makes a provocative, data-driven case for marriage by showing how the institution’s decline has led to a host of economic woes—problems that have fractured American society and rendered vulnerable populations even more vulnerable. Kearney shows how the greatest impacts of marriage are, in fact, economic: when two adults marry, their economic and household lives improve, offering a host of benefits not only for the married adults but for their children. Kearney examines the underlying causes of the marriage decline in the US and draws lessons for how the US can reverse this trend to ensure the country’s future prosperity.

QiFlow Summer Fire Element BEGINS

JUNE 25, 2024

Summer is the time for expansion. This period is associated with the Fire Element and the energy system of the heart, small intestine, pericardium + triple warmer energy systems. The light of the radiant sun is most vibrant and the natural world is at its peak of growth.

To harness and align with this incredible energy, the summer flow incorporates exercises to uplift, energize and offers a deep connection to the natural world.

Because heat and fire are associated with summer, the exercises are designed to cool and calm the heart energy, mindfully balancing the body’s need to over-expend.
