We can’t wait to partner with local nonprofits to bring HCB members together for days of service, as well as have virtual and asynchronous conversations around topics such as the environment, board engagement, and others so members can engage. Sleeper Agent: The Atomic Spy in America Who Got Away JANUARY 10TH | 8:00AM–9:00AM ET | VIRTUAL This “historical page-turner of the highest order” uncovers the chilling, little-known story of George Koval, an American-born Soviet spy who infiltrated the U.S. atom bomb project during World War II. This true crime spy thriller is nominated for an Edgar Award for Best Fact Crime. Koval, born in Iowa and schooled in science at Columbia University, was the ultimate undercover agent. With security clearances to the Manhattan Project, he passed critical information to the Soviet Union, helping them develop an atomic bomb years before U.S. experts had anticipated. His story remained hidden for years, and he was only identified by the FBI after returning to the Soviet Union. In 2007, Vladimir Putin posthumously awarded him Russia’s highest civilian honor for his pivotal role in the Soviet atomic bomb program. A riveting and fast-paced real-life thriller, Sleeper Agent explores the life of one of the 20th century’s most successful spies— who remains one of the least known. Join us as we discuss this gripping tale of espionage and its profound historical impact. REGISTER HERE
