Dear Fellow Members,
The longer days are coming and hopefully the weather becomes more pleasant sooner rather than later but it’s New England one never knows. During this month, Ramadan and Lent are observed leading us into April with Passover and Easter. This time of year, reminds us of the blessing of community we have at the HCB and privilege we have of belonging to a welcoming community that embraces all who are members.
March kicks off our busy spring season, and we have a variety of events that cover many interests. March is also Women’s History Month and Irish Heritage Month. There are three events that will be highlighted during month – Harvard/Radcliffe Orchestra: Opening Spring Concert on March 8, Harvard Alumni Association Global Networking Night on March 19 and A Legacy on Ice on March 20. Please check the club app and website for the diverse events available.
On February 8, the Harvard Club of Boston, lost a loyal, dedicated club leader and friend, James H. Anderson. ’69. He was a friendly person and welcoming to all. Jim served admirably as Club President and because of his leadership during his tenure, he made meaningful contributions to the club’s success. Jim was a wonderful person, who is remembered fondly by all of us who had the honor of calling him a friend. Please keep Jim’s family in your thoughts and prayers.
As you emerge from winter hibernation, please keep in mind the HCB has many ways to assist with making plans for your spring and summer. We have a robust reciprocal clubs network, with over 170 clubs worldwide. We have expanded our member benefits, 14 exclusive benefits for members to enjoy. Harvard University comes alive in the spring with Housing Day, Arts First and the spring student performances through the Office of the Arts. There’s lots to consider as you plan your spring and summer.
I am pleased announce our Family Activity Room will be opening in our lower level next to the Lactation Room in April. This space will support our plans for enhanced children’s programming and babysitting in the future. Plans for our outdoor patio space are moving along nicely. There are exciting plans for the décor and amenities in this new member space. If the weather cooperates, we will be scheduled to open in late May. Many thanks to Glen Ballard our Director of Facilities for his due diligence on both these projects.
The Harvard Alumni Association Nominating Committee has released its slate of candidates for the spring 2025 elections of new members to the Harvard Board of Overseers and elected directors of the Harvard Alumni Association. The HCB has two members that have been nominated as candidates. Courtney B. Vance ‘82 is a candidate for Overseer and Daniel Ahn ’90, M.B.A. ’97 is a candidate for HAA elected director. The voting website will be available from April 1 through May 14, 2025.
It's that time of year again for our Annual Member Update of Information. We ask that you take a moment and verify that your information is accurate and updated. We do this to maximize your experience with the club while also ensuring you receive pertinent news and information in a timely manner. Please take a minute to review your member profile on the website and update any relevant details. Thank you for your attention and assistance
Many thanks to all of you for choosing to be members of our beloved Club. As a member of the greatest alumni network in the world, thank you for filling our Club with a spirit of unity and congeniality, respect and kindness. Your loyalty and support make us thrive as a community, onward together. If you have questions or suggestions, please contact me directly via president@harvardclub.com.
Best regards,
Marcus O. P. DeFlorimonte gb ’95, pmd President Harvard Club of Boston

This past February, members of the Harvard Club of Boston participated in a variety of engaging events and a wonderful volunteer opportunity. Members gathered at the American Red Cross Food Pantry, organizing and distributing food to those in need. Additionally, they attended a wine tasting with Award-Winning Sommelier Alicia Towns Franken, Co-Founder of Towns Wine Co. and Executive Director of Wine Unify, participated in a meaningful fireside chat with Iris Bohnet and Siri Chilazi from the Harvard Kennedy School about their book Make Work Fair, enjoyed afternoon tea for Valentine's Day, and enjoyed a lively 374 Hoedown with line dancing, bringing a fun and festive atmosphere. These expereiences showcased the club’s dedication to community service, cultural enrichment, and building connections among members.
If you’re attending a future event, be sure to take pictures of yourself, your friends and fellow members. Post them on your socials and tag us and set your location to Harvard Club of Boston!

The ISU World Figure Skating Championships® is an annual event that captivates the world, drawing over 300 million television viewers globally. It showcases the skill, artistry, and athleticism of the top 200 athletes from 50 countries across four disciplines: men’s singles, women’s singles, pairs, and ice dance. In 2025, the Championships return to the United States for the 14th time, with Boston playing host for the second time, following its successful role in 2016.
This prestigious competition will not only highlight world-class skating but also serve as a key prelude to the 2026 Olympic Winter Games. The 2025 Championships will determine how many entries each country will receive in each discipline for the upcoming Games, adding another layer of intensity and importance to the event.

I had an absolutely wonderful stay at the Harvard Club — a true home away from home! I must say that the wait staff, the parking lot staff, etc. provide service with a smile, and genuinely appear to like their jobs, which is unusual these days. Gotta give Management credit for instilling that attitude at all levels! Well done …

7, 1947 – February 8, 2025
It is with deep sadness that we mourn the passing of James Henry Anderson of Osterville, MA from Alzheimer disease on February 8, 2025; Jim was 77 years old. He lived a full and rewarding life leaving many great memories for those who loved him as a partner, father, brother, and friend.
Born in Boston, MA to Dr. Donald G. Anderson and Dr. Erna G. Anderson, he attended Phillips Exeter Academy graduating in 1965 having excelled as a scholar and athlete (swimming and lacrosse). He attended Harvard College graduating in 1969. After graduation, he volunteered for the United States Marine Corps where he was commissioned as an officer after completing Office Candidate School. He served in Vietnam in Force Recon in the 1st Marine division, one of his proudest accomplishments. After earning a JD from Boston University in 1975, he pursued a successful career in medical malpractice defense law in Boston. Jim proudly served as president of the Harvard Club of Boston from 2004-2007.
A lifelong student, Jim could always be found researching any new activity. In recent years Jim rediscovered his youthful interest in hiking and camping. While he loved the activity itself, he also relished the time and effort of planning his outdoor adventures with Jeanne. Jim logged many good miles on the Appalachian Trail. Whenever possible he volunteered to work on trail maintenance in the Berkshires.
Lifelong passions were playing cards (especially poker) and golf. He enjoyed playing golf at Olde Barnstable Fairgrounds and later at Cummaquid Golf Club.
Joshua’s Pond had a special place in Jim’s heart. His happiest moments were greeting neighborhood dogs with treats and head scratches. He never was without dog biscuits in his pocket.
An active member of community organizations, he delivered meals on wheels for many years enjoying his contact with the many recipients.
The family extends special thanks to the entire team at Harbor Point at Centerville for their kindness and dedication to Jim’s wellbeing over the past year. We are so grateful for the loving support of his caregivers.
Jim is survived by his wife Jeanne Camin, son Travis (Meredith), daughter Emily, his sister Dr. Roberta Pagon, and two beautiful granddaughters, Olivia and Gwyneth Anderson in addition to many nieces and nephews.
The family looks forward to honoring Jim with a Celebration of Life to be set for a future date. All friends and family are welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers or other remembrances, we hope you will consider a gift in Jim’s name to the Alzheimer’s Family Support Center, 2095 Main Street, Brewster, MA 02631.
Notes of comfort may be made for the family at www.chapmanfuneral.com
