HARWOOD NO10 BREAKS GROUND WRITTEN BY JESSICA YOUNG
Ha r w o o d Int e r n at i o n a l h a s continued its commitment to elevating Dallas’ skyline with a groundbreaking ceremony of HARWOOD No. 10. CEO Gabriel Barbier-Mueller stood in front of a crowd to toast to the 226,778 RSF building located at 2850 N. Harwood in the HARWOOD District.

H A R W O O D PA P E R CONTINUED FROM COVER:
HDF’s concept for the building is to explore the relationship between interior space and the outdoors: disr upt ing t he convent iona l “box” office floors with outdoor terraces, for example, or adding a 9,000-square-foot garden and fitness pavilion on the 10th floor. Harwood International currently maintains over eight acres of gardens already in the district, and the addition of Harwood No. 10 accentuates the existing beautiful landscape. The building will also bring additional amenities to tenants and visitors of the district. A pedestrian passageway on the ground floor between Harwood No. 10 and its neighbor Harwood No. 4 will transform into La Rue Perdue, a unique pocket of shops and restaurants with outdoor dining. ROLEX CELEBRATES WITH
TOPPING OUT CEREMONY W R I T T E N B Y LY D I A B O Y C E
Thirty years after Harwood International opened the original Rolex Building in HARWOOD District, the global developer has topped out the newest Rolex Building. The decades-long relationship between Rolex and Harwood International has led to several firsts for both parties. The Rolex Dallas office opened in 1984 and was the first office for the luxury timepiece brand in the United States and the first office tower in Uptown. The new Rolex Building brings the first Japanese architect to the Dallas skyline and the result is a building that fuses luxury office space with the green gardens throughout. The Rolex Building is being designed in collaboration with Dallas-based HDF and Tokyo-based Kengo Kuma & Associates. The iconic seven-story building features 136,857 square feet, including 56,422 square feet of office space. Curated environments designed by world-renowned landscape architect Sadafumi Uchiyama include a Japanese inspired tiered garden featuring rampart stone walls at the base of the building with reflecting pools and cascading waterfalls spilling over the sides. A motor-court nestled within the gardens and pedestrian-friendly sidewalks tie the site to the gardens of Saint Ann Court. The building has received international acclaim and was featured in Architectural Digest as one of the “10 architectural icons that will redefine skylines in 2016.” D Magazine also awarded the building the Best Architecture Award in 2016. In December, the last beam was placed on top of the twisting tower and the Harwood International and Rolex teams toasted to the project. As the new building continues to be built out, the excitement grows to see the building completed this summer. Rolex will be moving their offices from the original building and expanding their team in the new space. Harwood International’s first office tower will be aptly rebranded to HARWOOD No. 1, a nod to its significant impact as the first office tower in Uptown.

HARWOOD LIGHTS UP
TALLEST HOLIDAY TREE IN DALLAS W R I T T E N B Y LY D I A B O Y C E
HARWOOD District hosted its eighth annual “Holiday in HARWOOD” tree lighting ceremony in December. The HARWOOD tree, which towers more than 80 feet high with 9,210 lights and 3,676 ornaments, is the centerpiece of Marie Gabrielle Restaurant and Gardens, a 1.5-acre European garden within the district of HARWOOD in Uptown. Thousands of the district’s tenants joined together in the Marie Gabrielle Gardens last December for a visit from Santa Claus, mulled wine, carolers, and bites from Happiest Hour, Dolce Riviera, Saint Ann and Mercat Bistro. The holiday spirit was in the air with letters to the North Pole, coloring book stations and plenty of holiday treats. In addition to the tree, HARWOOD District decked the neighborhood with tens of thousands of twinkling lights in the trees along Harwood Street, décor in all of the restaurants, dancing polar bears in Saint Ann Court, and life-sized nutcrackers greeting visitors at each tower’s entrance. If you missed the holiday spirit this year in HARWOOD, we invite you to join us this year for the celebration of the season!

CELEBRATION OF ITALIAN
FOOD, DRINK AND FASHION AT DOLCE RIVIERA W R I T T E N B Y A L E X I E E S T R A DA
To celebrate the launch of the ISAIA trunk show at Stanley Korshak, ISAIA took their fashions to Dolce Riviera’s patio for a striking fashion show. The fusion of Italian fashion and food was a night to remember and guests enjoyed Peroni, an Italian beer, under Dolce’s canopy.
Situated in the heart of Uptown Dallas, barely a mile from the HARWOOD District, Stanley Korshak is a Texas institution. Stanley Korshak is comprised of a collection of shops – The Bridal Salon, The Shak, and The Main Store, which cover over 65,000 square feet at the Crescent, a dramatic complex designed by Philip Johnson and John Burgee. Stanley Korshak’s motto is “shopping at its personal best,” which means everything from turning around a tricky alteration to reorganizing your closet. And while buyers address the trends, they know how far to go because they really identify with their clientele.
ISAIA was founded in Naples in the 1920s thanks to the intuition of Enrico Isaia, forefather of the family, who opened a fabrics store for the most renowned tailors in town. In later years, Enrico set up a small workshop next to the store, where skilled craftsmen made tailor-made men’s clothing. The brand’s success is due to its ability to reinterpret the concept of history and to combine tradition with innovation, the sartorial culture of needle and thread with cutting-edge technologies, while constantly innovating its style. ISAIA has become a successful family enterprise specializing in high-end menswear.

A LOOK INSIDE THE
SAMURAI COLLECTION W R I T T E N B Y A L E X I E E S T R A DA
With complimentary refreshments provided by Saint Ann Restaurant & Bar, The Ann & Gabriel Barbier-Mueller Museum: The Samurai Collection welcomed tenants from throughout the HARWOOD District for a premier evening to view Samurai: Inside the Armor and a special ikebana presentation by Motoko Ishihara Evans. Guests in attendance were associates from various companies that office in HARWOOD’s commercial towers including Moneygram, Frost Bank, Winstead PC, and Boston Consultant Group. Samurai: Inside the Armor presents a challenge to curious visitors of the collection – look past the surface of samurai armor to gain a new perspective and deeper understanding of this advanced art form. Helmets, masks, and suits of samurai armor feature intricate, beautiful, and creative exteriors to the naked eye. But, what lies beneath in the interiors of such ornate pieces? Were a myriad of materials used? What was the construction technique like? The answers are revealed by X-rays of the armor, which were taken at Brookhaven College with the guidance and meticulous expertise of the college’s Radiologic Sciences Program. Extending thanks to the program, The Samurai Collection honored faculty with a donation of $5,000. An added element enjoyed by guests during the reception was learning about ikebana, the Japanese art form of arranging flowers. Local Japanese culture consultant and fellow Japan-America Society of Dallas/Fort Worth member, Motoko Ishihara Evans, gave an insightful presentation and

allowed guests to try their hand at the art form. Visit The Samurai Collection in the HARWOOD District Tuesday through Sunday with free admission. You can also enjoy a late night Cocktail Tour the last Thursday of each month or Family Day on the first Saturday of each month.

PUPPY PLAYGROUND AT THE GROVE
W R I T T E N B Y A L E X I E E S T R A DA
The Grove is Dallas’ best urban backyard and a favorite among Dallasite dogs. To cater to our furry customers, The Grove revved up the Halloween spirit for Howl-O-Ween with Berrynaked Organic Pops + Purees, Park Cities Hollywood Feed, Dear Clarke and the Humane Society of Dallas County’s Dog & Kitty City Shelter. Pups of all shapes and all sizes came out to celebrate Berrynaked’s one-year anniversary and were dressed to the nines. Costumes ranged
from Pikachu to sharks to tarantulas and everything in between. The dogs put their costumes to work with a trick-or-treat basket station from Hollywood Feed featuring organic biscuits and goodies. All treats and no tricks, Berrynaked passed out their new ‘pupsicles’ to those in costume and had other popsicle flavors for sale.
home as a portion of the proceeds benefitted Dog & Kitty City. Keep up to date on more upcoming events by following @harwoodgrove on Instagram. To learn more about Dog & Kitty City, please visit dognkittycity.org.
The day of pouncing, sun bathing and tail wagging was not only a raving success for the humans and their dogs, it also helped provide food and other basic needs to the dogs looking for their “fur-ever”
