Harwood International, the global Dallasbased real estate firm, has opened the company’s flagship boutique hotel property, Hôtel Swexan. The hotel serves as the crown jewel of the more-walkablethan-ever 19-city block Harwood District.

Hôtel Swexan’s moniker stands for “Swiss meets Texan,” inspired by Harwood International founders’ multi-generational Swiss-Texan family heritage. Operated by Harwood Hospitality Group

design, an exceptional location, and a nod to our company’s Swiss Texan heritage, the first-of-its-kind destination introduces a new level of style and distinctive Swiss-inspired luxury to our great city,” said Jessica Young Reid, Director of Marketing, Harwood International. “We believe the hotel adds a vibrance to the community, which has always been central to our company’s mission. We hope the space becomes a best-loved culinary, cultural, and nightlife destination right in the heart of Harwood District.”

The 22-story modern tower is the third building in the Harwood District designed with world-renowned Japanese architect Kengo Kuma. The mirrored structure exemplifies Kuma’s philosophy that buildings should enrich the connection between architecture and its surrounding landscape. "For Hôtel Swexan, we were assigned the task of designing the building's facades, which for us was like tailoring a suit—precise and crisp in the Swiss approach and relaxed and robust in the Texan spirit—made of local materials. The horizontals and verticals build on the theme found throughout our projects for Harwood, a loose and woven grid. This suit should feel made for the spaces and the rich diversity within, welcoming, with surprising moments and movement throughout. We are interested in the continuity between regional tradition and cosmopolitan modernity. This exterior coat sets the tone, and wears through the day with changing light, from morning to dusk and into the evening," said Kengo Kuma.

with the contemporary and a twist on conventions, incorporating a blend of influences that work together in harmony. Art and design elements throughout are inspired by exploration and adventure, offering a creative flair that is both timeless and unique. As visitors meander, they will be taken on a journey to experience and explore each European city that has inspired the interior architecture and furnishings. The hotel’s service elements are specially crafted as a form of art, providing an immersive life-as-art guest experience.

Now Accepting Reservations

Hôtel Swexan’s grand foyer serves as a backdrop for unique artworks that will change year-round. The hotel’s interior architectural details are inspired by a classical 19th-century Parisian residence-turnedhotel, with comfortable yet elegant furniture and intricate, handcarved stone and wooden fireplaces on every floor of the hotel. The lobby lounge provides a transformable, intimate experience from day to night with warm lighting and design elements mixed with rich masculine leathers, carved millwork walls, plank wood ceilings, and wood parquet floors. The grand lobby and surrounding lobby-level spaces hosts three very different immersive dining experiences, including all-day high tea and martini bars, a dimly-lit two-story library cocktail bar, and a hidden underground hideaway.

We invite you to make memories with us beginning June 15th.

HIGH MUSEUM OF ART TO PRESENT MASTERPIECES FROM THE SAMURAI COLLECTION

The High Museum of Art, in Atlanta, will present “Samurai: Armor from the Collection of Ann and Gabriel Barbier-Mueller" from June 23rd through September 17, 2023. Assembled over nearly four decades of collecting, the exhibition comes to Atlanta from Harwood District's The Ann & Gabriel Barbier-Mueller Museum: The Samurai Collection. The High is the first museum in the Southeastern United States to present this exhibition, which has traveled to 14 cities around the world.

“While this exhibition explores a cultural history and artistic traditions not represented

in our holdings, it nevertheless aligns with our mission to present work that serves as a complement or foil to our collection,” said Rand Suffolk, the High’s Nancy and Holcombe T. Green, Jr., director of the High. “We are grateful for the opportunity to share these exquisite artworks with our audience.”

5 TIPS FOR SUCCESSFUL EVENT PLANNING

Today, hosting events is exciting but can also get stressful, and Harwood Hospitality Group's Vice President of Catering, Karen Carlough, shares her tips & tricks for how to execute a flawless event.

1.

Have a Theme

The best way to start planning an event is to decide on a theme. Whether it's a "Welcome to Spring" party or a "Carnival" event, all decisions stem from the foundation. Decor, and even food & beverage can easily be selected from there.

2.

Keep it Simple

Make sure you plan with enough time for people to RSVP - 2 weeks notification for people is much better.

3.

Timing is Key & Days

Consider booking your event on a weekday, and even during the times

of 3-5 PM. Most venues will give you a better deal on using their space as these days and times normally are quiet and slow times.

4. 5.

Budget & Stick With It

One example to best maximize your budget is to limit selections, such as offering only beer and wine for beverages, since alcohol has been shown to consume most of a budget.

Get Feedback

The best way to improve on your next event is to learn from any mistakes and to follow up with clients or guests after the event for feedback.

GET TO KNOW POCO FIASCO'S CHEF JP MANCHA

Texas born JP Mancha brings his 10-plus years of culinary experience in Dallas to Poco Fiasco, having spent time at Bijoux, The Cedars Social, 18th & Vine BBQ, and CT Provisions. Since joining Harwood Hospitality Group in December 2021, Chef Mancha has served as executive chef at Saint Ann Restaurant & Bar, assisted with the reopening of Dolce Riviera in May 2022, and continues to be integral to the private events team at Marie Gabrielle Restaurant and Gardens.

What is your favorite pizza at Poco Fiasco?

I would have to go with The Prosciutto. As simple of a pie it is, it is complex in flavor. The saltiness of the prosciutto counterbalances the bitterness of the arugula, then the sweetness of the hot honey brings it all together.

We are proud to announce Executive Chef JP Mancha was nominated for Rising Star Chef of the Year. Congratulations, Chef!

3 RULES FOR STYLING YOUR BOOKCASE

1.

Pick items that are beautiful and meaningful to you. Add your personality to your shelves through pieces that speak to who you are. This can be a combination of sentimental items and ones that represent your favorite colors and styles.

2.

Create symmetry and balance by placing items opposite each other that are similar in size and shape. These items don't need to be the exact same, they just need to have similar qualities. For example, using two cream colored items or tall and thin vases.

3.

From new Bleu Ciel model home designer, Nikki Klugh PROMOTION

Give your items room to breathe. When your shelves are filled to max capacity it creates a sense of unrest and stress. Put items on the shelves in a manner that allows open space on all sides to create a beautiful display.

Nikki Njeri Klugh is a highly sought-after, award-winning interior designer and the principal designer and founder of NIKKI KLUGH DESIGN GROUP, INC. Nikki is NCIDQ qualified, a True Color Expert, and a member of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) and The International Interior Design Association (IIDA).

Nikki’s philosophy is, “Interior design extends far beyond making spaces beautiful, comfortable or even simply functional. Sacred Spaces have the ability to change our lives -- to shift the way we feel and the way we function at a deep level.” Her extreme attention to detail, ability to go deeper than surface level with her clients, and upbeat personality are just a few of the reasons why she is consistently recommended by her clients to their networks.
