HARWOOD INTERNATIONAL CELEBRATES 30 YEARS W R I T T E N B Y LY D I A B O Y C E
Thirty years ago, on September 27th, 1988, Harwood International was born. CEO and Founder, Gabriel Barbier-Mueller, saw an opportunity for growth and betterment in Dallas with a vision to create an environment in which people can truly live, work, and play. This vision began with the construction of the first Rolex building and has now grown to an 18-city block district, home to 8 commercial office buildings, 2 residential towers, and 7 unique restaurant concepts. Outside of Dallas, HI owns and operates buildings in select niche markets such as Beverly Hills, London, Geneva, and Zurich. HI associates toasted to 30 years of growth with a community 80s party at Happiest Hour and an intimate art reveal ceremony to honor the Barbier-Mueller family. In the lobby of Harwood No. 6, HI associates surprised the Barbier-Mueller family on the day of the anniversary with champagne toasts to Gabriel and his family for everything they’ve done for them and for Dallas. During the toasts, an art piece commissioned by HI Associates and a 6-tiered, edible cake scrapbook of Harwood District was revealed. The art piece, a “30” cube was signed by HI associates and is inscribed with a dedication to the Barbier-Muellers. The cake featured the things closest to the culture of Harwood International and the District: Samurai armor, Swiss cows, hard hats, foosball players, GEM cars, architect pencils, Magnolia and Edelweiss flowers, photos of developments, and more. The art piece was exhibited in the Saint Ann Court Lobby for a limited time dedicated to the Barbier-Mueller Family titled “One Thousand Cranes.” The cranes represent good fortune, longevity, and happiness for the family and the next generation of HI.

In addition to internal celebrations, HI threw it back to 1988 on September 13th with an all-out bash at Happiest Hour. The festive soirée featured 80s inspired food and drink specials throughout the night, vintage arcade games, a costume contest with a grand prize of $1,988 (in honor of the founding date of Harwood International), an Instagram-worthy graffiti wall, and a rockin’ performance by The Spazmatics. At the party’s entrance, guests were greeted with a live graffiti artist at work and a troupe of 80s break dancers. Once inside, costumed bartenders and servers, life-sized Lite Brite board, 80s music hits, and a Keith Haring-inspired walkway had you completely transfixed.
The Spazmatics
Guests flocked to the patio to enjoy a performance by local New Wave 80s band, The Spazmatics, who revved up the crowd with covers of classic throwback jams. After the performance, the costume contest winner was announced, going to a duo that dressed up as Bob Ross and one of his paintings, which contained a special anniversary message to Harwood International. DJ Souljah hit the decks from the Happiest Hour rooftop for the rest of the evening.

WHAT’S YOUR HARWOOD STORY? B Y A L E X YO U N G
From a landmark anniversary celebration to a #ThirtyThrowback party that took Harwood District and Happiest Hour guests back to the 80s, these past months have been a culmination of excitement thirty years in the making. We’ve loved seeing everyone sharing their unique perspectives on what makes the District such a melting pot of culinary and experiential activity. Through the use of #HarwoodStories, we’ve been able to see those moments come to life and have enjoyed sharing in the thrill that these early fall months have provided. Partnering with local artists to create a one-of-a kind installation in the main lobby of Saint Ann Court was just one component of the ways we showcased how the District continues to evolve. This time of year, memories are made by interacting with our holiday décor and trying out a new district restaurant with loved ones. We thank you for making those #HarwoodStories come to life on social media. Whether you are celebrating a delicious holiday meal with friends and family or simply capturing moments that speak to the season, we hope you continue sharing your #HarwoodStories with us.

SECOND ANNUAL HOPE FEST: LIVE FROM HARWOOD RAISES $260,000 B Y A L E X I E E S T R A DA
Harwood International’s charity concert, Hope Fest: Live from Harwood, raised a record-setting $260,000 for a roundup of four Texas-based nonprofits on Saturday, October 13 at Happiest Hour. Donning blue jeans and cowboy boots, a crowd of more than 500 packed into Dallas’ largest patio bar and lounge. The event kicked off with a big surprise as top Americana singer songwriter Radney Foster stepped out on stage to join opening performer Kyle Hutton. Supporting Hope Fest for the second year in a row, America’s Got Talent runner-up Cas Haley kept the crowd well entertained leading up to the evening’s highly anticipated headlining act, Cory Morrow. Singing along to Morrow’s hit tunes like “Whiskey and Pride,” guests tried their luck in the raffle to win gifts and getaways. Featuring an incredible roster of items like diamond jewelry, sporting suites, and penthouse stays abroad, the raffle drew the highest number of participants ever. Held annually, Hope Fest is led by Katelyn and Oliver Barbier-Mueller and supports a collection of nonprofits centered around children and those with special needs. To date, Hope Fest has raised nearly $500,000. Proceeds from the second annual Hope Fest will provide enhancements to facilities, education curriculums, and more for Connecting Point of Park Cities, Cornerstone Achievement Center, The Huckleberry Foundation, and Majesty Outdoors.
“Through the generosity of 40 sponsors and in-kind donors and more than 500 guests, Hope Fest raised over $260,000 in just its second year.” - Katelyn Barbier-Mueller, Founder of Hope Fest: Live from Harwood

HARWOOD NO. 10 REACHES ITS PEAK B Y LY D I A B O Y C E
Over the summer, Har wood International’s construction teams of HCMS and SPHINX reached the peak of Harwood No.10. True to construction traditions, the teams used the Harwood crane to lift a tree to the very top of the building to celebrate the accomplishment. Now that the final beam has been placed, the beauty of the building has begun to take shape. Floor-toceiling windows of the Penthouse are set into place and the features of the gardens on the 10th, 16th, and 17th floors are brought to life. Designed by design and architecture firm HDF, the building will be unlike any other in Dallas. The unique garden terraces bring a part of the outdoors to the work space, lending to a healthier, friendlier office environment. Tenants of Harwood No. 10 will enjoy a modern work environment where associates aren’t tied to a cubicle, and instead have open air and unique environments to foster creativity and enhance productivity.
