Christie Brinkley recalls the first time she took her mask off in public the same way many might describe going to a nudist beach for the first time: with fear, awe, reverence and just the tiniest bit of glee. Truth be told, her inaugural dining venture of 2021 — a Mother’s Day outing at Tutto Il Giorno in her Hamptons hometown of Sag Harbor — did feel a little bit like being naked in public. “It is very scary when you first unmask,” the 67-year-old model and entrepreneur admits. “I mean, I sat outside a couple of times last summer when [the cases were really low] and it seemed safe, but I couldn’t relax. Anytime anyone walked near me, I’d duck under the table. It just wasn’t worth it.” But on Mother’s Day (she’d had both doses of the vaccine, which she refers to as “getting double vaxxed,” a phrase Americans will no doubt be using all summer), “we sat down at the table, we took our masks off, and we didn’t think about it. The waiter came and took our order, and I wasn’t cowering in the corner. It was so exciting.” The moment was memorable for another reason, too: pure validation. While riding the high of finally being out in public without fear, she also spotted several diners popping the corks on bottles of Bellissima, the organic prosecco brand she launched in 2016. It was fitting, given that Bellissima was started as an homage to the art of celebration. And really, what better time could there be to celebrate life than now? Brinkley’s inherent bubbliness and ebullient enthusiasm perfectly complement such a sparkling business venture. “I am a person who loves exclamation marks. I use the double red exclamation marks multiple times a day in emails to friends. You could say I have a certain enthusiasm, a joie de vivre,” she confesses before explaining how the naming of her prosecco perfectly aligns with her personality. “Bellissima means ‘most beautiful.’ It’s the perfect word for sunsets, new babies, reunions and all of these beautiful moments that are happening right now. I thought, ‘Well, bubbly wines have always been associated with celebrations of our most beautiful moments. We can and should take any opportunity and turn it into a celebration.’ I thought Bellissima was a perfect way to represent celebration. I like to say that when you pop a cork, it’s an exclamation point on that moment!” (Dear reader, please note that I would have used two exclamation points here in Brinkley’s honor had it not been grammatically incorrect.) Fittingly, Bellissima is created in a location worthy of its name — one of truly exceptional beauty. The brand’s organic grapes are harvested in the 16 HAUTE LIVING hauteliving.com
vineyards of Treviso, in Italy’s Veneto region, just 30 miles north of Venice. From the unique white limestone soil of this postcard-perfect place on the banks of the Piave River, with rolling hills and ancient cathedrals as a backdrop, the brand’s four expressions — as well as an exclusive line of Aperol and elderflower aperitifs — are produced in traditional 750ml bottles, as well as “bambinis” (375ml splits), all designed by Brinkley, who looked to Botticelli’s “The Birth of Venus” for inspiration. These include the Zero Sugar Sparkling White Wine, made with Glera grapes, with notes of white flowers and grapefruit; the Rosé Sparkling, made with pinot grigio grapes, fresh and fruity, with a bouquet of strawberry and grapefruit and a soft, persistent foam; the 100 percent Glera grape Prosecco DOC Brut, a dry prosecco with delicate scents of green apple and aromatic notes of baked bread; and her latest release, the 100 percent pinot grigio grape Zero Sugar Sparkling Rosé, which, due to a unique fermentation process, results in a crisp, diet-friendly wine with hints of strawberry and grapefruit. The brand will soon launch its Pink Prosecco. A combination of 90 percent Glera grapes and 10 percent pinot noir grapes — vinified separately, then assembled before secondary fermentation with the Charmat method, which takes about 60 days — the wine, which contains only 10 or 11 grams of sugar per glass, will be lively and sparkling, with delicate floral notes as well as fruity hints of cherry and strawberry on the palate. Aside from its overall ethos, several things set Bellissima apart. First and foremost, it’s certified organic. “We have never had chemicals on our vineyards — they’re pure and clean,” Brinkley boasts. “It makes me so happy to offer grapes that do not have approximately 57 chemicals on them, like some can have if they’re not deemed organic.” Also, the wines are vegan — which was personally important to Brinkley, a lifelong vegetarian. “This means that we don’t filter our wines through animal parts, which is the traditional way wines are filtered. [Blood and bone marrow, casein, chitin, egg albumen, fish oil, gelatin and isinglass can all be used in the production of certain wines.] I didn’t even realize this until I got into the business, but the idea of drinking wine that may have an animal part in it, I find that to be really gross,” she says. [I can’t help but agree.] And last, but certainly not least, Bellissima caters to those who want to stay, well, bellissima — its low sugar content practically guarantees that those who want to remain slim and trim can do so, guilt-free. “The icing on the cake is that we currently offer two zero-sugar wines, and I would love to expand on that,” Brinkley says. As one of the most iconic supermodels in history — and one who is very much still in the public eye — it’s no wonder that Brinkley would choose to create a health- and body-conscious beverage. Crafting something she could personally feel good about and would choose to drink herself was critical. And so, while she is enthusiastic about each of her creations, her preference du jour is the Zero Sugar Sparkling Rosé. “I have to say, you’re not supposed to have favorite children, but [the rosé] is my new baby, and I am just completely obsessed.” (For those wondering, she swears she loves her actual human children exactly the same. They are Alexa Ray Joel, 35; Jack Brinkley-Cook, 26; and Sailor Lee Brinkley-Cook, 22.) Most brand owners shy away from expressing a personal preference, but Brinkley isn’t afraid to speak her truth. Plus, her tastes (in prosecco, not children) are constantly changing, so what might be her favorite today could completely shift in a week. But it’s hard not to fall in love with the zero-sugar concept, especially now, after a year enjoying some truly Italian-style family meals while in lockdown with her kids.
@hauteliving HAUTE LIVING 17
“During the quarantine, all three of my kids were home with their significant others, and they all cook, and they all eat three meals a day. When I’m not with the kids, I sometimes forget to eat a couple meals. I just get into something, and before you know it, it’s 5 in the afternoon and I go, ‘Okay, let me make something for myself right now — something that’s good for me.’ But it was hard for me to keep my weight in check with everybody here: they were making French toast in the morning and big salads in the afternoon, and somehow, somebody always seemed to be baking banana bread or some sort of thing off of Instagram. There were always big dinners with multiple courses, and I put on a bit of weight.” So she certainly didn’t intend to take in extra calories through alcohol. The best way to have her cake and eat it too was to not go crazy over her drinkable calories. “I feel best when I am at my fighting weight, and the best way to lose weight is to never drink your sugar, because any sugar that you drink is absorbed into your body and sets up that whole cycle, that whole glycemic response,” she says. “Since I have a sweet tooth… I love knowing that I’m not laying on that additional layer of sugar in my day [through alcohol].” She adds, “I love it when the restaurants here in the Hamptons have Bellissima on the menu, because — let’s face it — there aren’t that many great, guilt-free choices. I’ll look at a menu and go, ‘Oh, they’ve got a pecan pie!’ Who’s going to have just one bite of pecan pie? I’ll take my zero-sugar sparkling wine happily, and I’ll have my fork ready to dive right in.”
O
On this spring day in May, Brinkley is gazing up at the clear blue sky above her Hamptons home, and she’s dreamy. So dreamy, in fact, that to me she sounds a little bit like Bob Ross. “This second, I’m outside, and I feel like I’m on holiday,” she sighs happily. “It doesn’t matter where I am in the world: for me, enjoying life is making time to get outdoors. Like the expression, I bloom where I am planted, and I am very, very lucky to be planted in the Hamptons right now. We have the most beautiful beaches and bays, and I love being near the water. To be able to be outdoors with friends is just the greatest luxury in life, you know? I’m equally as happy on a terrace in New York City as I am being at the home I’ve had in Turks and Caicos for the last 20 years. I’m looking at the blue sky right now and just smiling. There’s a chartreuse tree, a periwinkle blue sky. The colors are just so happy and gorgeous.” And regardless of where she’ll be this summer — whether it’s here in her happy place or taking a few friends up on their invitations to visit Europe — one thing is crystal clear: life should be —and is — beautiful. “We had a dinner party a couple of nights ago; it was a 20-person-long table. We just kept saying, ‘Can you believe it? We’re all really here! We’re double vaxxed. We’re here.’ It’s absolutely thrilling. You definitely don’t take a meal at a table with friends for granted, and I never did. It’s one of my favorite things in life. But then, everything is bellissima!” she declares. Which, in Brinkley’s world, is absolutely true. She has had the kind of enviable career that most can only dream of. After being discovered in a Parisian post office by photographer Errol Sawyer during her time as an art student in the City of Lights (just one year after graduating from Le Lycée 18 HAUTE LIVING hauteliving.com

Francais de Los Angeles, a stone’s throw from her childhood home of Malibu), she became the first model ever to appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated for three consecutive years, from 1979 to 1981. She’s been photographed on six continents in more than 30 countries around the world and can boast a 25-year partnership with Cover Girl that began in 1976. She has successfully done Broadway, starring in the Tony-winning revival of Chicago and receiving the Broadway Beacon Award for her portrayal of Roxie Hart; published the New York Times best sellers Timeless Beauty: Over 100 Tips, Secrets, and Shortcuts to Looking Great and Christie Brinkley’s Outdoor Beauty and Fitness Guide; and has appeared in films like Jack and Jill (and in National Lampoon’s Vacation as the completely unforgettable girl in the Ferrari), TV shows such as Parks and Recreation, and music videos including, most memorably, ex-husband Billy Joel’s “Uptown Girl.” Additionally, she’s thrown herself into philanthropic work, receiving many humanitarian awards, including the USO Merit Award for her efforts to entertain U.S. troops in Bosnia and Kosovo. She currently sits on the board of directors of the Global Security Institute and the Radiation and Public Health Project, and she created a scholarship fund at the Ross School in East Hampton. In the last few years, she’s hardly been idle. She is still working with fitness training equipment company Total Gym after more than 25 years, and in May she was announced as the star of denim brand NYDJ’s newest campaign, which also features both of her daughters. (Alexa Ray is a singer/ songwriter, and Sailor Lee is a model with IMG.) And although she didn’t quite get around to launching Christie’s Cocktails on IGTV, she did continue her campaign to make other women feel beautiful by announcing an ambassadorship with SBLA Beauty to promote its neck, chin and jawline anti-aging wand earlier this year. Like Bellissima, the partnership came about organically. “I was literally on a call with a bunch of girlfriends and everyone was like, ‘What are you all doing for your mask faces and the stress on your skin dealing with quarantine?’ One of my friends said, ‘Oh my gosh, I feel like I’ve aged so much,’ and somebody else said, ‘Me, too,’ and [a third woman] said, ‘Not me! I’ve been using these wands. They’re incredible!’ and I said, ‘What wands? What are you talking about?’” After hearing the explanation, Brinkley was sold. “There are actually visible results. It tightens the neck. It lifts the chin. It redefines your jawline. I use it on my décolletage, which I only recently discovered [was necessary after a mishap with my phone, which cast a] very unflattering side light from the sun. I went, ‘Oh, what is that? What in the world?’” As a model, Brinkley is clearly familiar with mirrors, but sometimes we forget to really look at what we’re seeing. She says, “When I turned 60, I started needing glasses. I can never remember where I put them, and you don’t wear glasses when you put your makeup on anyway, so I never really looked at myself in the mirror perfectly. But there I am, looking at myself with my glasses on in the full light, and I see these wrinkles on my chest.” Needless to say, she was not happy. That is, until she got on board with her girlfriend’s beauty tool. “I started using the wands along the base of my neck
where I notice a bit of crepiness, as well as my forehead, around my eyes, my smile lines, and I could not believe the results. I literally called the company and I said, ‘You know, these products are really amazing. What is in them? Why do they work, and what else do you have planned?’ And I started speaking with Randi Shinder, the owner. She said, ‘Let’s merge. Let’s partner.’ So now I’m an equity partner as well as international spokesperson.” This is just the latest trick up her sleeve. As a 45-year industry vet, it should go without saying that Brinkley has an arsenal of beauty hacks at her disposal. Which, of course, she is only too happy to share. In addition to swearing by Dr. Barbara Sturm’s Glow Drops, she says, “Men always look five years younger than women the same age, and the reason is because they shave every day. When they shave, they are getting a more rapid cell turnover, stimulating their skin. So I’ve been a big proponent of scrubbing.” Another tip reveals how she protects that fabulous figure of hers, made so famous by Sports Illustrated — though she does confide that she only wears bikinis at home these days. “I still wear bikinis in my house because I don’t want to have my body be this pale creature. If I’m in the garden, I am not going to wear a T-shirt — I’ll put on a bikini on with overalls on top, and once I get enough sun, I’ll cover up with a loose and breezy, oversize man-tailed white shirt. I also wear sunblock, of course. That’s still the most important beauty tip I can offer! Then I’ll put on a pareo [a wraparound skirt] so that I can tan in any areas where the bikini may have made lines on me. I may still wear a bikini in public, but I’ll probably just keep my sarong on.” Her last piece of advice is this: “I think the other thing is to realize the power of a smile. When you smile, when you just put your lips in that position, it creates all kinds of healthy, anti-aging endorphins. So I would say to take a moment to enjoy your day if you can. See or get on the phone with a friend, make sure to laugh. If it’s a sunset that’s going to make you smile, get out and enjoy that sunset. Don’t miss it. Make time. People get so busy with their lives, but you’ve got to remember to also enjoy it. Go out right now and see the buds on the trees, and see how the leaves are bursting out.” She certainly intends to, without fear, even as throngs of tourists and beachgoers descend upon the Hamptons this summer. “I think it’s exciting when there’s lots of life and people around. I like the hustle and bustle. I like people. And this is people season,” she says. “I live out here yearround, so I know the Hamptons well enough to know how to get away when I feel like getting away from everybody. There are miles of endless beaches that are there for you to take a long, slow walk, even in a bikini, with nobody looking at you. One of the things I cherish about the Hamptons is that ability to feel like you can get away from it all. It’s a spectacular place for water lovers and people who love sailing, like me. I like to spend a lot of time on, by and in the water, sailing, paddling, surfing, all of that stuff I love. And eating. There are lots of great restaurants, from Montauk to the North Fork to Shelter Island.” Her final recommendation? “I would call in advance and make sure they have Bellissima there!” Exclamation point, exclamation point. @hauteliving HAUTE LIVING 21

BUYING A LAMBORGHINI IS A RITE OF PASSAGE FOR ANY
self-professed car aficionado. To raise the bar on the acquisition process, the smart folks behind the Italian luxury auto brand developed a highly bespoke experience to match the quality synonymous with riding the Raging Bull. Behold the newly minted Lamborghini VIP lounge and NYC flagship. Headquartered in a sprawling, two-story space in Chelsea, the posh hub features 5,400 square feet of Lamborghini nuts and bolts that will fill any fan with delight. “Following the success of our Lamborghini Lounge venues across the globe, this new flagship in Manhattan will create a vibrant and personal connection to share the Lamborghini lifestyle,” president and CEO Stephan Winkelmann said in a statement. “It’s a true reflection of our fine Italian heritage.” Experientially speaking, said heritage translates into a pinnacle of Italian luxury, embodied by high-end furniture made by Living Divani and a full-service kitchen run by La Dolce Vita. Inspired by the Lamborghini facility in Italy’s Sant’Agata Bolognese, the New York location will serve as a gallery of never-before-seen vehicles. First up is the Huracán Super Trofeo Omologata (STO), informed by famed race cars Huracán Super Trofeo EVO and Huracán GT3 EVO. The limited-series road-homologated sports car is born of the racing heritage of Lamborghini Squadra Corse’s one-make Huracán Super Trofeo EVO race series, as well as its three-time 24 Hours of Daytona-winning and three-time 12 Hours of Sebring-winning Huracán GT3 EVO. With its V10 naturally aspirated 640 hp engine, the rear-wheel drive Huracán STO offers the emotion of a track experience on every road drive. Impactwise, Ad Personam design studio will be on hand to indulge some Lambo owners’ most creative wishes by outfitting their vehicles with the color and material selections of their choice. There are plans for art exhibitions and other cultural activations at this tricked-out social hub. For those purposes, there are private spaces for events catered by a dedicated Italian chef and access to an exclusive concierge. This is a strictly VIP experience; partaking comes with an investment. Lamborghini Lounge is open to customers and friends only, another compelling reason to get one of these bad boys for yourself. @hauteliving HAUTE LIVING 23

+Yellow Magic Hublot makes more magic happen. BY MARTIN GREEN
Magic, Hublot has proven that it can produce this primary color in ceramic, a challenging material: it’s made at very high temperatures, and most pigments tend to burn up. That’s why, for decades, ceramic watches generally only came in white and black. Hublot was the first to introduce brighter colors, in 2018, thanks to a newly developed process to create ceramics under pressure at lower temperatures. The Big Bang Unico Yellow Magic showcases Hublot’s patented technology well. The vibrant yellow looks even more intense thanks to contrasting black details. With a diameter of 42mm, the watch is well proportioned, and thanks to the rubber strap with titanium and black ceramic folding clasp, the wearing comfort second to none. While the yellow is quite a powerful color, Hublot has been able to incorporate it generously in the Big Bang Unico Yellow Magic without making it too much of a good thing, thanks to the dial and black middle section, crown, and chronograph pushers, which do a wonderful job of bringing the design altogether. The Big Bang Unico Yellow Magic is powered by caliber HUB 1280, a self-winding movement with a power reserve of 72 hours, made in Hublot’s own manufacture. It features a flyback chronograph, which is controlled by a column wheel. This is visible through the skeletonized dial and adds to the industrial, high-end look of the watch. Hublot will make 250 pieces of the model.

Richard Mille RM 40-01 McLaren Speedtail: a partnership goes full speed ahead.
EVEN AMONG MCLAREN’S IMPRESSIVE COLLECTION,
the Speedtail is in a class of its own. It redefined the term supercar, and with a breathtaking 250 mph top speed, it is the fastest car McLaren ever built. It is also one of the most spectacular, its aerodynamic profile stunning from every angle. There are many similarities between McLaren and Richard Mille, the two brands that have been partners for over a decade, and they prove this once again with the new RM 40-01 Automatic Tourbillon McLaren Speedtail. This watch was designed simultaneously with the car, making it far more than just a tribute to this incredible machine but a piece of art in its own right. Most unique is the shape of the case, which resembles that of the car. McLaren invested no less than 2,800 hours in getting its teardrop shape just right. To up the game even more, the RM 40-01 Automatic Tourbillon

McLaren Speedtail features a finishing at a higher level than Richard Mille has ever done before. The highly complex sapphire crystal on this watch costs 15 to 20 times more to make than those on other Richard Mille models. To fit the unique case, a new movement had to be developed as well. Caliber CRMT4 consists of 603 parts and is based on Richard Mille’s in-house automatic caliber. It features an oscillating weight made from platinum and red gold, resembling the hood of the McLaren Speedtail, as well as a tourbillon. In terms of complications, it is fitted with a power reserve indicator and an oversize date. Thanks to its organic shape, integrated strap, and a case made from Grade 5 titanium and Carbon TPT, the wearing comfort is exceptional and offers no distraction when you take the McLaren Speedtail to its top speed.

watchmaking with disruptive creations at Watches & Wonders 2021. These pieces not only show the brand’s’expertise and craftsmanship, but also its future-minded nature and eye for tantalizing design, continuing to push the boundaries of the company and also watchmaking as a whole. Existing connoisseurs are served, as well as a new generation of watch collectors. With the Blast Hourstriker, Ulysse Nardin has created the Hourstriker Phantom’s successor while integrating it into the highly successful Blast collection that launched last year. The key elements of this watch are its beauty and technical complexity, but especially the sound. Ulysse Nardin teamed up with audio tech company Devialet and achieved an astonishing 85 dB, thanks to the use of a titanium membrane. The mechanism that controls the striking features of this watch is visible on the dial side, as is the flying tourbillon. The 45mm case is crafted from red gold combined with black DLC titanium, which makes the watch look striking. With the Diver X Skeleton, Ulysse Nardin has merged elements from two of its most impactful collections into a single watch. The result is a diving watch unlike any other, as they are rarely fitted with skeletonized movements. The case combines blue PVD with charismatic blue carbonium, a carbon composite with a unique texture decorating the diving bezel. The “X” dominates the dial in two colors, blue with orange accents. Behind it sits caliber UN-372, a skeletonized automatic movement in which extensive use of silicon parts makes it truly the mechanical movement of the future. The power reserve is extensive, measuring 96 hours. The Diver X Skeleton is available with either a blue or an orange rubber strap and is limited to 175 pieces, marking the 175th anniversary of the brand, which is being celebrated this year. With its new UFO table clock, Ulysse Nardin is also conquering the sky. It teamed up with Maison L’Epée, which has been manufacturing traditional clocks since 1839. With an aluminum base and handblown glass dome, the clock is a unique object that shows it all. Its movement consists of no less than 675 components that allow it to show three time zones at once. At the top is extra-large oscillator, 49mm in diameter, crowned by the Ulysse Nardin logo. Thanks to six mainspring barrels, the clock’s manual wind movement has a power reserve of a year, as can be seen on the indicator placed inside the movement. It is another daring way in which Ulysse Nardin shows its significant expertise and knack for creating items representing the future of timepieces.

AND + PRESSURE PASSION Jimmy Butler teams up with TAG Heuer. BY MARTIN GREEN
PHOTOS COURTESY OF TAG HEUER
JIMMY BUTLER IS A MAN WHO NEEDS NO INTRODUCTION.
The highly successful basketball player started his professional career with the Chicago Bulls and now plays in the small forward position for Miami Heat. In his first year with the Heat, he was instrumental in the team reaching the 2020 NBA Finals. As a five-time NBA All-Star, three-time All-NBA Team honoree and four-time NBA All-Defensive Team honoree, he knows how to impress in any situation. For him, a watch is an important part of his personal style, so he has joined forces with TAG Heuer, wearing their watches on and off the court. “TAG Heuer and I share a common DNA of mental strength, passion and performance,” Butler says. “What excites me most about being their new brand ambassador is that they see something in me. I’m glad that they feel that I’m the right person to do the job. TAG Heuer believes in me, and I’m giving them everything I got.” On the court, his wrist will be graced by the TAG Heuer Connected. This innovative smartwatch combines good looks with great ergonomics and a wide array of features. Its active screen is protected by a sapphire crystal, surrounded by a bezel made from ceramic. The watch itself features a GPS, compass, accelerometer, gyroscope and heart rate monitor, which makes it perfect for Butler to keep track of his performance and helps him take it to an even higher level. Butler reveals how the brand’s “Don’t Crack Under Pressure” concept relates to him: “I love pressure. Around here,
we say pressure makes diamonds or pressure bursts pipes. Everything we do is to make sure we’re making diamonds out of that pressure. Every single day we’re putting the work in to make sure I’m in the best shape physically and mentally, and that I’m prepared for anything thrown at me on the court. I love pressure — it shows who you are.” Off court, it immediately becomes clear why Butler is also considered an international style icon. His personal taste is of an exceptionally high standard, and everything he wears, he does with a natural flair. The same goes for his TAG Heuer Carrera. A true watch aficionado, Butler didn’t pick just any Carrera to wear but opted for the limited edition, made to mark the 88th birthday of founder Jack Heuer. This 42mm watch is crafted from pink gold and powered by the brand’s’in-house chronograph caliber Heuer 02. With its silver dial and contrasting black subdials, it superbly compliments Butler’s original style. The new TAG Heuer ambassador says he has a special relationship with time. “As an athlete, time means everything, because you never get it back. I’m ten years in the game now, and I look back on when I was a rookie and think, ‘Wow, what a time.’ I remember everything like it was yesterday. In my personal life, time means everything all the same. I spend so much time with my family, with my guys, we do everything together, and we record it all because we want to be able to go back in time and remember what happened at a specific moment.” @hautetime HAUTE LIVING 35

Haute THE MODIFIED CONTINENTAL GT3 RACER, BASED ON
Bentley’s race- and championship-winning car, will power its way through the 12.42-mile course running on biofuel-based gasoline at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. Bentley’s ambitious and transformational Beyond100 program will see the brand become the world’s leading sustainable luxury mobility company. As a part of its major sustainability initiative, the British luxury carmaker has modified the iconic Continental GT3 Pikes Peak to compete for the Time Attack 1 record at this year’s Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. Bentley, the sports car, will be the first competitor to run on renewable fuel ahead of a goal to offer sustainable fuels to Bentley’s customers around the world. The company has already started its tests for various blends of fuels, with possible greenhouse gas reductions of up to 85 percent over standard fossil fuel. The Continental GT3 running of biofuels marks the start of a more extended program that will investigate both biofuels and e-fuels for their potential to power the Bentleys of past and present in a sustainable way. The car is set to maneuver 156 corners at an average speed of more than 78 mph, to cross the finish line in under 9 minutes and 36 seconds. The 5,000-foot climb starts at 9,300 feet, and the course climbs to 14,100 feet, where the air is one third less dense than at sea level. To help achieve this ambitious target, Bentley has once again turned to three-time Pikes Peak champion and former “King of the Mountain” Rhys Millen of New Zealand. It was with Millen that Bentley captured its two existing Pikes Peak
records: the Production SUV record attained in 2018 with a Bentayga W12, and the outright Production Car record scored in 2019 with a Continental GT. “We are delighted to be returning to Pikes Peak for a third time, now powered by renewable fuel as the launch project for another new element of our Beyond100 program,” says Matthias Rabe, a member of Bentley’s Board for Engineering. “Our powertrain engineers are already researching both biofuels and e-fuels for use by our customers alongside our electrification program, with intermediate steps of adopting renewable fuels at the factory in Crewe and for our company fleet. In the meantime, the Continental GT3 Pikes Peak will show that renewable fuels can allow motorsport to continue in a responsible way, and hopefully it will capture the third and final record in our triple crown.” Considering the terrain and race requirements, Bentley has upped its game with significant modifications to its aerodynamics package and engine, turning it into the most extreme iteration of a Continental GT or any Bentley road car ever. The biggest rear wing ever fitted to a Bentley dominates the rear of the vehicle. Sitting above a highly efficient rear diffuser that surrounds the transaxle gearbox are some other evident changes. The brand has also worked on the rear aerodynamic package by balancing it with a two-plane splitter at the front, flanked by separate dive planes. For its engine, the Continental GT3 Pikes Peak possesses Bentley’s proven racing power unit, developed from the 4.0-liter turbo V8 fitted to the Continental GT V8. Further modifications include cooling air scoops in place of the rear windows and the obligatory stopwatch mounted to the roll cage next to the steering wheel to allow Millen to keep track of his sector times up the mountain.

LIST
IT’S BEEN A DECADE SINCE BRITISH LUXURY AUTOMOBILE
manufacturing company McLaren dipped its toes in the production-car pool with the MP4-12C in 2011. The latest by the supercar marque is the 2022 Artura, the brand’s first high-performance hybrid supercar. “Every drop of McLaren’s experience and expertise has been poured into the Artura,” says CEO Mike Flewitt. “Our all-new high-performance hybrid delivers all of the performance, driver engagement and dynamic excellence for which McLaren is renowned, with the additional benefit of EV driving capability. The introduction of the Artura is a landmark moment — for McLaren, for our customers who will appreciate and enjoy this car on every emotional and rational level, and for the supercar world.” At the heart of Artura’s powertrain is McLaren’s all-new 2,993cc twinturbocharged V6 engine. With a power output of 585PS — nearly 200 PS per litre — and 585Nm of torque, the dry-sump aluminium engine is compact and lightweight; at just 160kg, it weighs 50kg less than a McLaren V8 and is significantly shorter, enhancing packaging efficiency. Working in harmony with the new V6 is the Artura’s compact axial flux E-motor, located within the transmission bell housing. Smaller and more powerdense than a conventional radial flux E-motor, it can generate 95PS and 225Nm and boasts a power density per kilo 33 percent greater than the system used in the McLaren P1. The instantaneous nature of the motor’s torque delivery — known as “torque infill” — is key to the car’s razorsharp throttle response. The Artura is the first model to have the new McLaren Carbon Lightweight Architecture (MCLA) at its core. Designed and manufactured at the McLaren Composites Technology Center in the Sheffield region, MCLA sets a new standard for McLaren’s advanced flexible chassis design. Optimized for high-performance hybrid applications, it includes a bespoke battery compartment. It introduces a groundbreaking domain-based ethernet electrical architecture, along with an electrical heating, ventilation and airconditioning (eHVAC) system. The supercar is designed with full plug-in hybrid capability and can be charged to 80 percent in just 2.5 hours with a standard EVSE cable. The batteries can also harvest power from the combustion engine during driving, tailored to the driving mode selected. Inside, the Artura is no less of a revolution, with the cockpit centered more than ever around the driver. Choose from four powertrain modes,
including an E-mode for 30km of emissions-free, electric-only driving. Designed for mixed driving conditions, the Comfort mode maximizes range and efficiency. The combustion engine shuts off under 40km/h using an extended stop and start mode but phases in for more incredible speed and power requirements. In the Sport and Track modes, electric power is deployed aggressively for low-end response and acceleration (“torque infill”). An all-new McLaren infotainment and connectivity system (MIS II) utilizes two high-definition screens. The interface is built on allnew software and bespoke hardware to deliver a smartphone level of responsiveness and is also capable of smartphone mirroring. MIS II includes updated versions of familiar McLaren apps, including McLaren Track Telemetry and Variable Drift Control, and features a redesigned navigation map in the instrument cluster that focuses on key information to minimize driver distraction. “The all-new McLaren Artura was designed and engineered to perform at the highest level across the board, in electric power-only, zero-emission, urban commutes to weekend breaks, favorite drives and track day sessions,” says Jamie Corstorphine, McLaren product strategy director. He adds, “As well as setting new standards in the supercar class for performance and efficiency, it has a world-class warranty and service package to match, giving our customers peace of mind while they are enjoying their new high-performance hybrid supercar to the full.” Every new Artura will be covered from the point of purchase by a 5-year/75,000km vehicle warranty, 6-year/75,000km hybrid battery warranty and 10-year, unlimited mileage, body (anti-perforation) warranty. This comprehensive package is included as standard in all markets worldwide, with the further provision of a 5-year roadside assistance package in most regions, including the U.K. Owners will also benefit from a 3-year service plan, which covers the cost of all regular maintenance undertaken in the 12-month/15,000km/9,000-mile interval, including oil and filter changes, renewal of the engine and E-motor air filters, brake fluid replenishment and safety inspections. The new Artura, which is priced from £185,500 in the U.K. (roughly $255,000), is available in a standard specification and three different trim levels: Performance, which has a sporting, functional aesthetic; TechLux, where the focus is on the technical luxury the name suggests; and Vision, which has a more and adventurous look and feel. @hauteauto HAUTE LIVING 41

AZIMUT YACHTS’ LATEST LAUNCH IS A TRUE WORK OF ART.
The 82-foot superyacht is so important to the company that it plans to make a movie about it: award-winning director Gabriele Muccino, who directed Will Smith in The Pursuit of Happyness, has agreed to make a short film about the Magellano 25 Metri. This superyacht is a collaboration. Vincenzo De Cotiis, an internationally renowned artist and architect, designed the interiors of the boat in line with his unmistakable language. The refined external lines, with chic taste and timeless elegance, are a creation of Dutch naval architect Ken Freivokh. The yacht is characterized by the widespread use of carbon, which makes it environmentally conscious, and has an active air sanitation system based on a NASA patent. It also uses “hotel mode” functionality that allows use of the main onboard services for an extended time when the boat is at anchor without having to turn on the generators. Designed with a special low-consumption dual mode hull, the Magellano 25 Metri offers the highest levels of comfort and safety even in rough seas. It is one of the few boats in its category to have direct access from the internal wheelhouse, located in a raised position on the main deck, and the external one on the flybridge, to facilitate the work of the captain and the crew on board. De Cotiis uses a special type of resin embellished with a bronze powder to give interior surfaces a cloudy effect and the look of some precious stones. He also makes extensive use of fiberglass in an artistic manner. Brushed Verde Alpi marble, lush carpet, polished brass, dark walnut wood, lacquered wood, and wood ribbing add to the customized effect. Two original artworks from the designer hang in the owner’s cabin and the corridor of the yacht.
Another glorious space on the yacht is the salon, where the designer uses a mirror coating that reflects the light to “dematerialize” the structure. At night, in addition to the lamps and the classic ceiling spotlights, the sofas are illuminated from beneath to give a suspended effect. All the fabrics are designed by Loro Piana Interiors. In the owner’s suite, one gets the impression that space expands thanks to the inclined position of the walk-in closet, while the mirror coating makes volume disappear and reflects the light and the starboard panorama, creating highly suggestive changing optical effects. On the lower deck, there are four sleeping cabins, two of which are VIP cabins, one double and one with double sliding beds. Exterior designer Freivokh started with the concept of timelessness. The central element from which the whole project develops is a fully glazed superstructure designed to create the feeling of a penthouse on the sea. The elegant spiral staircase, teak side flaps and retro hull window cut-outs give greater personality to the profile of the yacht. The sundeck and lounge in the bow area can be experienced differently depending on the time of day, while the stern, thanks to a pivoting door mechanism, offers the charm of an Infinity Terrace from which to contemplate the sunset without any visual impediment. The dual mode hull, in burnished teal with a mustard beauty band, created by Pierluigi Ausonio’s studio, guarantees safe and comfortable navigation, even in rough seas. The engine is powered by a pair of 1,400 horsepower Man engines (or, alternatively, 1,550 horsepower) with V-Drive shaft drive. Stabilization is entrusted to a Humpree electric fin system. The expected maximum speed is around 24-25 knots, while the cruising speed is 21 knots.

the name implies—the owner’s dream yacht. It took one rightful owner, two extraordinary designers and 18 months of delivery time. Oceanco’s 295-foot motor yacht is called DreAMboat, emphasizing the owner’s initials, AM. The innovative yacht is a first-time collaboration between two of the most renowned yacht designers in the superyacht world: Espen Øino International for the exterior and Terence Disdale Design for the interior. DreAMboat features elegant and engaging exterior lines. The generous overhangs from the superstructure and cut-outs in the bulwarks lend a traditional yet muscular appearance. “At the outset, the exterior design was intended to be understated and timeless,” says designer Espen Øino. “Working closely with Oceanco, all the primary surfaces and details were created keeping this in mind. The result is one I think we all can identify with. At the launch, she came out of the facility looking strong and proud, with a lot of presence.” The superyacht boasts a whole carbon canopy mast house and mast, forming an integral part of the overall design. DreAMboat was also built to accommodate family life. The emphasis is on large windows that flood the interior with daylight and offer unspoiled views. The outside space features a large swimming pool on the main aft deck, a spa on the bridge deck aft with a custombuilt hydro/massage bath, and a private jacuzzi on the owner’s deck. The yacht also has a large variety of toys, tenders and audio/video appliances that appeal to all ages, with a large selection of water toys, including a custom-built diving board. Said Dan Jackson, the owner’s representative, “From the first time the owner saw the boat, still in the outfitting facility, and met everyone
involved in the project, he knew that the combination of Espen’s timeless exterior, Terence Disdale’s elegant and calming interior and Oceanco’s ability to deliver the boat on time and to the quality he required was just right for him. After some minor enhancements made to suit him and his family, we got right into it, and here we are 18 months later, proud to be delivering him his DreAMboat.” Terence Disdale has created an interior that incorporates bespoke surfaces, natural wood, limestone floors, semiprecious stone vanities, parchment, leather and mother-of-pearl. The effect is elegant without being overdone. The fixed and loose furniture and the upholstery and cushions all provide an inviting and harmonious ensemble that complements the yacht’s exterior design. The large saloons, multiple dining areas, and intimate lounging settings offer myriad possibilities for large and small groups to congregate, making DreAMboat ideal for a multigenerational group. DreAMboat is an example of proven reliable technology combined with state-of-the-art AV/IT infrastructure, including a complex IP ship’s computer operating system. She has been designed for efficiency on many fronts, including a heat recovery system for potable water. She has also achieved ECO-IHM (inventory of hazardous materials) notation, which demonstrates an overall commitment to operating the vessel on an environmentally sound basis beyond statutory compliance. The beautiful steel hull and aluminium superstructure is powered by twin MTU 4,828hp / 3,600kW MTU 20V 4000. “Delivering DreAMboat is the ultimate milestone in Oceanco’s ethos of creating the owner’s perfect yacht,” said Oceanco project director Roderick Gort.

Those who want something off the beaten path head to Perching Bar in Verzy, where you can sip some fine vintages high in the treetops, up in the sky. And speaking of the sky, a hot-air balloon ride over the vineyards of Champagne is perfect for those seeking the magical. If you’re terrified of heights or leery of the time commitment, Balloon Epernay — a tethered balloon ride overlooking Avenue de Champagne — is a more manageable option. And though it might seem macabre, a visit to Dom Perignon’s tomb, in the Abbey Saint Pierre in the quaint village of Hautvillers, is a must for any true champagne enthusiast. The Benedictine monk’s contributions to the community are substantial: He is largely considered to be the “founder” of champagne. Indisputably, he’s also responsible for the most famous champagne quote of all time. “Come quickly,” he said, “for I am drinking stars!” And so, now, can you. Balloon Epernay

TRAVEL
CHATEAU DE SACY
It’s hard to imagine that properties like Chateau de Sacy exist, but luckily for hedonistic travelers, they do. Built in 1850 and brought painstakingly back to life by the Millésime Collection in 2017 (millésime, appropriately, means “vintage” in French), this grand country home on Reims Mountain is an authentic interpretation of the good life. Guests are welcomed into a timeless environment, a bubble where shared experiences are encouraged and technology is not. Leave the cell phone on mute, forget about watching TV (there aren’t any on site) and soak in the beauty each of its 12 uniquely decorated rooms and suites offers, all while enjoying copious amounts of champagne. Every element of this stay has a “best of” touch, be it the exceptional Mariage Frères teas served with breakfast;bespoke spa treatments, such as the “Signature Effervescence” facial, which echoes the feeling of champagne bubbles on the skin; the “Mindful Champagne-Tasting Experience,” a clever interpretation of what the region does best; or the hands-on classes, one of which teaches the art of sabering. A stay at Chateau de Sacy is truly an ode to celebration and the art of the French lifestyle. www.chateaudesacy-reims.fr
LA CASERNE CHANZY HOTEL & SPA
Chateau de Sacy
Those looking for a beautiful place to stay in the heart of Reims, the unofficial capital of the Champagne region, need look no farther than the beautiful new La Caserne Chanzy Hotel & Spa. Located in a former fire station, the Autograph Collection’s first-ever regional hotel offers postcard-perfect views of Reims Cathedral — the traditional coronation site for French kings — and a stellar location central to many of the area’s best attractions, including the Palais du Tau, Beaux-Arts Museum and Reims Opera House. Its 89 rooms and suites echo the ethos of Champagne — a carpet with patterns that nod to aerial views of the Champenois hillside, light fixtures in the shape of champagne bottles, and photos courtesy of visual artist Pierre-Elie de Pibrac that represent the successive steps of champagne production: harvesting, fermentation, clarification, blending, ridding, disgorging and tasting. The vibe is also found in the cork-covered lobby walls, whose mineral tones are inspired by crayères, the underground chalk quarries where champagne is kept. While the property’s onsite restaurant, La Grande Georgette, does not play to the region per se, it does pay tribute to the building’s past via industrial décor, ladder fittings and bright-red splashes typically found in the fireman’s world. lacasernechanzy.com
THE ROYAL CHAMPAGNE HOTEL & SPA
In the heart of Champillon, a town of just 500 that overlooks the lush vineyards of the Marne Valley, sits Europe’s most celebrated resort, the resplendent Royal Champagne Hotel & Spa. It isn’t hard to imagine that this 100,000-square-foot, 47-room eco-friendly oasis was, in its past life as a coaching inn, a pit stop for kings en route to their royal coronations: Every inch of this champagne-soaked property is an exquisite homage to its celebratory location. Royal Champagne’s very composition — quartz stones for opacity, acres of glass for transparency, terraces that showcase the grape-studded terroir and rooms imbued with varying champagne-reminiscent colors (the petal pink of a good rosé and the glossy gold of a sparkling brut) — creates a sensual, singular refinement. But it’s the extra touches that make the resort so lauded: Hermès bathroom amenities; a press-for-champagne button for those craving bubbles all day; an afternoon ice cream and champagne cart that glides silkily from room to room; a dedicated champagne concierge who can arrange exclusive tastings at the many nearby maisons (no easy feat, as many are entirely private or require a personal “in”); the region’s only destination spa, a collaboration with cult favorite Biologique Recherche; two swimming pools, one of which is charmingly surrounded by clusters of grapes; and, of course, a Michelin-starred restaurant. Speaking of those extra touches, the resort is celebrating the opening of France’s borders post-pandemic as well as the bicentennial anniversary of Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte I’s death in a big way: by partnering with Maison Chaumet, the official jeweler of Empress Joséphine, to provide private access to a rare exhibition of 150 rarely seen artworks, jewels and gowns that runs through July 18. Only those staying in the hotel’s exclusive Joséphine or Marie-Louise suites can take advantage of this unparalleled historical offering, so get booking! royalchampagne.com Chateau de Sacy

EAT WELL TO HEAL WELL Foods that enhance your recovery after plastic surgery.
WHILE IT IS ALWAYS IMPORTANT TO MAINTAIN PROPER NUTRITION
and eat a well-balanced diet, eating healthfully becomes even more important prior to and immediately after a plastic surgery procedure. Although plastic surgery is typically lower-risk than other surgeries, there are several things patients can do to maximize their results and healing after the surgeon’s work is over. Diet and nutrition are the part of postoperative care that you can truly take into your own hands. Proper nutrition enhances your health and promotes faster healing. Patients who incorporate these foods and nutrients into their diet daily tend to have the best postsurgical outcomes. Protein: One of the best things for wound healing and repair is collagen. Collagen is a protein molecule that is a major component of human connective tissue. If you are having surgery, it is important to eat foods that provide adequate protein to ensure enough collagen can be synthesized by the body for wound repair. Good sources of lean protein include poultry, fish, eggs, nuts, beans and other legumes. Carbohydrates: Although carbohydrates sometimes get a bad rap, eating the right ones provides additional nutrients that promote wound healing. The body uses carbohydrates to build the backbone of amino acids and protein, which we already established is critical for wound healing. Importantly, if you have had fat grafting procedures, there is evidence that carbohydrates are the best nutrient for increasing fat retention in the area of the graft. This is likely because fat cells are sensitive to insulin. As carbohydrates are digested into sugars, insulin levels increase and promote fat graft survival. The best carbs to eat are complex carbohydrates and whole grains. This includes fruit, vegetables, whole-grain bread, brown rice, potatoes, corn, barley and whole-grain pasta.
56 HAUTE LIVING hauteliving.com/hautebeauty
Fiber: Due to the effects of anesthetics used during surgery, the digestive system often slows down, and that can make you feel constipated postoperatively. It is important to keep eating foods with fiber to keep your digestive system active and moving. Fiber is abundant in complex carbohydrate-rich foods including fruit, vegetables and whole grains. Probiotics: Probiotics are another way to maintain a healthy digestive system. In addition to the effects of anesthetics, the antibiotics administered during surgery for the prevention of infection can kill the good bacteria in your gut that keep your digestive system healthy. Foods with probiotics such as yogurt can help maintain a healthy gut microbiome to counteract the effects of antibiotics and anesthetics. Vitamin A: Vitamin A goes beyond maintaining your vision. It stimulates skin cell growth, blood vessel growth, collagen synthesis and granulation tissue formation. It has many benefits for wound healing and can be found in carrots, sweet potatoes, mangoes and dark leafy greens. Vitamin C: As mentioned previously, collagen is one of the most important molecules for wound healing. However, it would be nothing without the action of vitamin C. Vitamin C is essential for cross-linking collagen to form strong bonds between the molecules. Since vitamin C is a water-soluble molecule and cannot be stored in the body, it is important to consume vitamin C-rich foods every single day before and after surgery. Foods with high vitamin C content include kiwi, citrus, peppers, berries, broccoli and brussels sprouts. Zinc: Zinc works together with vitamin C to cross-link collagen. It promotes uniform and strong wound healing, so it is important to ensure you have enough in your diet after surgery. Zinc is found in red meat, eggs, legumes, seeds, nuts, shellfish and dark chocolate.

WORK-LIFE
BALANCE We asked our Haute Beauty experts to share how they maintain a healthy balance between their work and their personal life. Here’s what they had to say.
MICHELLE LUIS, DMD | SMILE EXPERT | NORTH MIAMI
Any busy professional will tell you about the struggle of work-life balance. Sometimes we achieve this, and sometimes we don’t. A dear friend of mine, a fellow professional, likes to say “Life strikes again” in reference to those unpredictable circumstances in life. Keeping the balance during those moments is the most challenging. The best tools I have to keep my balance are positive self-talk and maintaining an organized list of prioritized tasks. My checklist includes both work and life goals, such as dinner with friends, quality time with my family, working out, medical appointments and other activities that keep my body and mind well. I typically write out my list for the week on Sunday evenings. I start Monday with a plan and then tell myself I will utilize my time according to this plan. If, by the end of the week, I have not achieved the balance I planned on, I adjust. I do not beat myself up about it; I just reset my list of priorities and desires for the following week. It’s common for me to roll over something I didn’t get done to the list for the following week. We will never get it perfect, but staying positive and organized with a plan in place are the tools that help keep me on track.
MIMI YEUNG, DDS | SMILE EXPERT | NEW YORK
A healthy work and personal life are not too hard to maintain if you love what you do — no stress to bring home! When you are at peace, at home, those around you also are able to achieve their balance in their life with more ease.
JUPNEESH SINGH, DDS | SMILE EXPERT | PHOENIX
Maintaining a balance between personal and professional life is always a challenge for us health care professionals. Having a loving wife who is the mother to our three beautiful children makes it a lot easier. My children enjoy playing sports such as basketball, tennis, swimming, and ping-pong. That makes it easy for me to be part of their lives, as I enjoy anything sporty. I am blessed to start my mornings off with my family every day. I get to enjoy making breakfast for my children and 58 HAUTE LIVING hauteliving.com/hautebeauty
taking them to school. This really helps me start my day, to serve my family first. When I get to the office, it’s a natural progression to serving our patients and my work family. Serving our patients, making them feel welcome and treating them with kindness are principles I stand behind. I try my best to listen first and understand each patient’s wants and desires. Then I can offer them options to help them attain their cosmetic goals with conservative dentistry. Being a dentist, I enjoy the flexibility of my work schedule to take time off to spend with my family as well. Spontaneous date nights with my wife are the cherry on top!
KARI FEINSTEIN, ENLIGHTEN MD | MEDSPA | DALLAS
After 17 years of owning a medical spa and speaking to countless patients, what I am the clearest about is that no one has it all! Some get great brows. Some have the hair, the lips, the lashes, even the best tush. I find it more beneficial to help women maximize their best assets as opposed to focusing on what they don’t like. My job is to help my patients with balance. Nothing is good in excess. You can’t have it all, but starting each day with a grateful heart is a great place to start. You are only gifted one body that you can’t trade in. Take care of it all, because it feels good to be strong, healthy and confident. Have a plan. Plan your workouts, your vacations, your family time and especially your beauty regimen. It takes a plan!
MINDY DIPIETRO, CEO, AESTHETIC TREATMENT CENTERS | MEDSPA | NAPLES
Work-life balance can certainly be an issue, particularly for female entrepreneurs. I can honestly say this has been a major challenge throughout my career. Time blocking has been a very effective strategy. Using one master calendar for work, family and personal obligations has been a lifesaver. Choosing a color for work, family, personal and social time can give you a visual representation of where things may be out of balance. I find that time with our significant others and our personal health, such as gym time, tends to get pushed out first, even though they are essential to our happiness and longevity.
JACKIE PANTALONE, STUDIO SCULPT + MOXXI | MEDSPA | SOUTHEAST MICHIGAN
As a wife, mother, CPA, owner of two businesses and full-time CFO of an engineering firm, I find balance difficult to achieve. My business mentor, Dave Kunselman, taught me some very important lessons for building a life that you love. First, invest in people you can trust, and learn

ASHANDRA BATISTE, DDS | SMILE EXPERT | HOUSTON
Maintaining balance is key to my success. It begins with getting rest every night. I do my best to sleep a minimum of seven hours. I am also committed to working out at least three times a week. I have to thank the pandemic for one thing: great at-home workouts! I am a Peloton addict. It truly helps me decrease my stress and maintain my sanity, and I get the perk of having a better body while at it!
Haute to delegate. You are limited by self-performance. Second, after those people are in place, carve out time to do the things you love and that recharge you. Business is the long game, and you have to pursue it in a way that is sustainable if you want to avoid burnout. Third, if your work is something you are passionate about, it won’t feel like work. Operate in your area of excellence and outsource those things that are not in that zone. I have been fortunate to be mentored and supported by amazing people in my life who have made it possible for me to succeed in all my many roles.
COURTNEY M C CRACKEN, STUDIO SCULPT + MOXXI | MEDSPA | SOUTHEAST MICHIGAN
This is a difficult one for me, as my work often fades into my personal life. That is just part of the expectation I set for myself while building up my business. I found that it is easy to lose yourself in what you are passionate about. When I’m feeling burnt out or know I’ve had several busy days in a row, I make it a point to give myself a break. I block off personal days to regroup and do something fun with my friends or family. This has been essential to maintaining my happiness and continuing my drive to do what I love.
RACHEL DUKE | AESTHETIC INJECTOR | DMV
The first step is to find your passion and be able to monetize that. When you are fully into your craft, it becomes part of your self-care equation. Even then, you still need to be able to step back and see yourself and your career from a different vantage point. That balance is different for everyone. We must create opportunities for self-reflection that are healthy for each of us to make adjustments that allow us to achieve our hoped-for future. Having that monthly lash appointment, hair appointment or spa appointment just for you and engaging in activities that are nonnegotiable in terms of missing them is the discipline we all need. I have found, over this last challenging year, that attending online virtual conferences on personal development has helped me self-reflect and take some time away. Your balance may be to take a day and stay in bed, or to take a vacation. It’s all okay. Find what helps you give 100 percent in all you do, in and out of the office.
ALINA SHOLAR, MD | MEDICAL AESTHETICS | AUSTIN
Personally, I have concluded that the chase after work-life balance results in much more frustration and dejection than real satisfaction. For many, work feels like something you’re obliged to do, but if we consider the amount of time and energy work consumes, we are summarily dismissing a huge part of our lives. Instead, we should view work as our action in the world. Our task is to live each moment, recognizing that at that moment, whatever we are doing, we are expressing our life’s purpose. It is in each moment, at work or at home, that we are cultivating what is to come, weaving the tapestry of our lives. There is no time-out. Every moment counts. If we feel our lives are out of balance, it is because our work does not nourish us and does not foster our possibilities to exercise our creativity, our passion, our joy and our potential. That is what is out of balance! Once we begin to pursue purpose instead, we will experience a new wholeheartedness in everything we do. The balance will find itself.
TAHL N. HUMES, DO | MEDICAL AESTHETICS | DENVER
Putting in 100 percent effort at home and at work as rewarding as it is exhausting. I make my mental health the priority. A good night’s sleep and a positive attitude are crucial. Mental and physical health is the key to happiness, personal fulfillment and professional satisfaction.
BEAUTY
PAULA CHRISTIANSEN, MINT WELLNESS CENTER | WELLNESS | MIAMI/FORT LAUDERDALE
Work occupies a large amount of our time, and we are constantly taking it all home. Balancing personal and work life is essential, and overworking negatively affects our physical and mental health, increasing stress levels and disrupting personal relationships and our ability to do a good job. That is why achieving a healthy balance between work and personal life helps improve our health. I believe that to maintain a balanced relationship between work and our personal lives, it is important to set limits. A healthy lifestyle is essential to cope with stress and achieve balance, so diet, physical activity and getting enough sleep all play an important role in our daily routine. Many times, daily responsibilities and obligations force us to dedicate more time to our work and put our own health aside, but there will come a time when our body demands some care. I have always considered that beauty is not only external but also internal, which is why my spa that offers beauty treatments that provide a total relaxation experience.
KARYN GROSSMAN, MD | SKIN EXPERT | LOS ANGELES
You can’t take care of everyone else if you’re not taking care of yourself. That’s why I believe keeping a healthy balance between work and personal life is vital to each individual’s well-being. As a single mom and business owner, I know how challenging it can be, but with some effort, it is definitely possible. Learning to be 100 percent focused is a helpful tool. When I am at work, my patients have my undivided attention, and when I am with my family, they have it. This keeps everyone’s bucket full; they know that when I am with them, nothing is more important. Also, I keep a detailed calendar in which I block off time regularly for myself and my family; the rest of the time I dedicate to work and my patients. Sticking to the schedule and planning out time to relax is very helpful.
MAMINA TUREGANO, MD | SKIN EXPERT | NEW ORLEANS
It’s important to know your limits. As much as I love seeing patients in my practice, I knew that for me to have a normal personal life, I had to cut back on my hours at work. And when I’m at work, I try to get all my work done there — notes, lab reviews, biopsy reviews — and not bring it home with me. I also make a daily to-do list, but I emphasize the three most important things I need to get done that day and focus on those, and I try not to beat myself up if I’m not tackling all the things on my list.
MARA WEINSTEIN-VELEZ, MD | SKIN EXPERT | ROCHESTER, NEW YORK
After last year, the work-life balance paradigm experienced a major shift. My personal experience is not unique, being a working mother of three, dedicated wife and motivated career woman, but I’ve had to learn to reprioritize and dive deep into what I am most passionate about in order to achieve and maintain some form of balance! Here is my philosophy: I’ve had to make a conscious effort to prioritize my health and personal well-being. If I’m not healthy, happy and rested, I can’t give my best to fulfill the roles of mom, wife, friend, peer and colleague. I try to set aside an hour each day for “me time” to exercise, meditate, read or do whatever it takes to reset. hauteliving.com/hautebeauty HAUTE LIVING

TONS HOW-TO
HERE IS OUR HAUTE GUIDE TO EAST END, A ROUNDUP OF THE NEWEST HOTELS, SHOPS, RESTAURANTS AND ACTIVITIES TO CHECK OUT IN THE HAMPTONS THIS SUMMER. BY ANETTA NOWOSIELSKA
East Hampton Point
PHOTO COURTESY OF EHP RESORT AND MARINA
WHERE TO STAY East Hampton Point, now called EHP Resort & Marina, is post-phase one of its multimillion-dollar transformation. Enjoy accommodations that evoke chic Hampton-esque cottage living, the property’s excellent service and a new Mediterraneaninspired restaurant, Sí Sí. Executive chef Dane Sayles, formerly of Gurney’s Resorts, offers a menu that celebrates seasonal Italian, Spanish, Greek, Moroccan and Turkish dishes. With seating for over 300 both inside and out, EHP hopes to stir similar vibes to that of Moby’s, back when it was based here. Think scene, music and a sunset-hour menu that embraces one of the best views over Three Mile Harbor. The 100-year-old Ram’s Head Inn is not exactly the new kid on the block, but thanks to a revamp courtesy of its new owner, it is the freshest. The famed waterside destination on Shelter Island now boasts a newly whitewashed dining room, 17 guest rooms and beauty and spa services, plus all the historic charm the property has come to be known for. Another development is the all-inclusive Grass Pass, granting guests and visitors access to amenities including beachfront food and beverage services and activities, luxury picnic options, outdoor fitness classes and spa offerings. @hauteliving HAUTE LIVING 85

WHERE TO GET CULTURED Thanks to Pace, Skarstedt and Hauser & Wirth, the arts enjoyed unprecedented exposure last summer when several city galleries opened out East. To keep that momentum this year, Rashid Johnson is spearheading a group exhibition exploring form and gesture at Hauser & Wirth, while David Hockney‘s illustrations of his home in Normandy will be on view at Pace. At Skarstedt, Enoc Perez will debut new drawings in the form of reflection on social media. And premiering at the Parrish Art Museum in August, Roy Lichtenstein: History in the Making, 1948–1960 will be the first major museum exhibition to investigate the early work of one of the most celebrated American artists of the 20th century.
WHERE TO GET FIT As quintessential as farm-stand foraging, wellness out East is an essential part of any Hamptons experience. This summer, the new opportunities are boundless. Forward Dance Space offers dance cardio classes at Reform Club and Hero Beach Club (keep an eye out for more activations here, including Well Told Health, NEOM Organics, Athletic Greens, Symbiome and Briogeo). At Topping Rose House, the Ness is now a partner in residence with its bounce and sculpt classes. This workout will join a lineup of classes like barre sculpt flow, cardio boxing and Iyengar yoga, and there are plenty of pop-ups and partnerships on the horizon. Dancebody is headed to the Clubhouse in East Hampton, followed by a residency at Hero Beach Club on Saturdays in July. Equinox x Hamptons marks the expansion of its “high-performance lifestyle” with a new Bridgehampton location. Expect high-end equipment, workouts and classes, some which will take place in the courtyard. And finally, leave it to the local doyenne of fitness to bring it big for the season: Tracy Anderson will debut her Anderson Moto Air Pro Reformer at her East Hampton studio in July. The machine uses air tension in place of the springs or weights common in most Pilates reformers to enhance synaptogenesis, repair mitochondrial damage, design muscles with clear precision, create youthful expression and protect spine and joint health.

After a difficult year, East End restaurants are buzzing with activity. In East Hampton, Rita Cantina is serving up modern coastal Mexican cuisine under the watchful eye of chef Eric Miller. His menu includes littleneck clams with chorizo and Tecate, seafood ceviche with pomegranate and habanero, and duck carnitas. Tequila and mezcal are the star of the show barside in a dining room showcasing Oaxacan design. Don’t miss the outdoor patio outfitted with white picnic tables, or Rita Cantina’s beach picnic bundles available to go. In Montauk, La Fin Kitchen & Lounge is the the latest culinary addition. Amid great views of Montauk Harbor, chef James Tchinnis delivers his Frenchinspired farm-to-table menu with aplomb. His fluke crudo with blood orange and watermelon radish, lobster toast with charred corn and fresh spaghetti with lump crabmeat are the perfect paring for rosé wine and a refined cocktail menu. In Amagansett, Il Buco al Mare — a collab between chef Justin Smillie and the Il Buco Alimentari team — has taken over a spot on Main Street. Produce- and seafood-centric, it’s a chilled-out version of its original outpost, where ancient-grain focaccia and fare from the wood-burning oven are capped off by a wine list focused on boutique producers. More of a morning eats fan? Be sure to pick up your coffee and pastries from the next-door Il Buco Vita coffee shop. Speaking of seafood, the new waterfront Manna at Lobster Inn in Southampton is going big on sustainability, the result of a partnership between offshore aquaculture pioneer Donna Lanzetta and Sag Harbor restaurateur Ryunosuke Jesse Matsuoka. Think fin fish, mollusks and trout carbonara meticulously executed by chef Thomas Bogia. Love Asian food? Kissaki, the epicenter of Japanese excellence, teams up with Jennifer Saesue, owner of NYC Thai spot Fish Cheeks, for a popup at the Montauk Anglers Club. This fusion will present a mix of Thai highlights from Saesue and Kissaki’s full sushi menu, with sake, beer, wine and cocktails to go. Finally, if dining indoors is the last thing on your mind, CaviAIR club is now delivering its caviar packs and kits in a vintage Land Rover. Bottles of bubbly can be paired with a variety of offerings, priced by the gram.
WHERE TO KICK BACK The new sure-to-be-hot Bounce Beach Montauk will offer brunch, lunch and dinner by with James Beard Honoree chef Sean Olnowich and delicious drinks that can be carried out thanks to cocktail pouches for all your “drinks to go” needs (and let’s not forget the promising bar scene on site). Speaking of movable options, be sure to check out the Lobster Roll Take-Out window and Swimsuit Take-Out Bar stocked by Hamptons favorite Solid & Striped. [Less work means more time to enjoy your company.] And now, thanks to Hamptons Aristocrat, you can host a bonfire without lifting a finger. The food and event company has partnered with referral-only concierge service WAND to offer a four-hour event featuring luxury seating by Serena & Lily, Yeti coolers, tiki torches and four menus to pick from. Bonus: You won’t have to worry about the mess — cleanup is part of the package. Hamptons Aristocrat

WHERE TO SHOP A new batch of fabulous boutiques delivers big on the wow factor. Karen Murray, owner of the Upper East Side’s Fivestory, has opened up shop on Jobs Lane in Southampton. As in the city location, customers can expect brands like Cara Cara, Muse x Muse, Le Sirenuse, Lug Von Siga and Bathseva. Also in Southampton, Veronica Beard has debuted her first Long Island location, the brand’s largest store to date. That’s to be expected, considering all the ready-to-wear, denim and footwear collections available here. On Main Street, LoveShackFancy has added to its usual lineup of romantic cult-favorite frocks and antique finds procured by founder Rebecca Hessel Cohen, all displayed against the brand’s own wallpaper, which is available for purchase in four prints. In Montauk, Lingua Franca is taking over the shop space at the Crow’s Nest, which makes sense, since owner Rachelle Hruska Macpherson’s husband owns the place. Stitched cashmere pieces, a new pique cotton collection and a hodgepodge of beloved brands like Edie Parker, Into The Woods, Birkenstock, Lemlem, Chufy and Royal Jelly Harlem fills the space with stylish energy. Last but not least, joining Gucci, Tod’s, Manolo Blahnik and Balenciaga in East Hampton, One is a two-story luxury marketplace celebrating makers across such disciplines as fashion, accessories, jewelry and interiors. Be sure to pay attention to the artwork by an up-and-coming selection of NYC artists peppering the space, thanks to a partnership with Artsy.

THE ROOFTOP BARS ARE BASKING IN THE SUMMER SUNSHINE,
and for those looking for great venues to kick back, cocktail and enjoy New York City views, there’s no better place to start than at the top. Here are five options that stand above the rest.
A.R.T.NOMAD
This buzzy seasonal rooftop bar (atop the Arlo NoMad Hotel) has jawdropping Empire State Building views and food by celebrity chef Dale Talde. The cocktail lineup features eclectic botanical concoctions like the aloe, mint and cucumber blend of the Girls Just Wanna Have Fun and the frozen cocktail of the day. Insta-loving patrons will marvel at the glass floored “sky walk,” which gives anyone brave enough a bird’s-eye view of Manhattan from 31 floors up. 11 E 31st St
THE GREENS
NYC’s ultimate outdoor dining retreat returns this summer with socially distanced mini lawns and unrivaled sight lines of the lower Manhattan skyline. Surrounded by promenades with views across the East River to Brooklyn, the Greens at Pier 17 features 28 cabana-like pods meticulously aligned across a faux lawn. Each accommodates up to eight people and is equipped with umbrellas, lounge chairs, coolers and USB ports. An all-day menu offers New American cuisine with fresh seasonal ingredients. 89 South St
HARRIET’S ROOFTOP
Located on top of 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge, Harriet’s Rooftop features the view from Dumbo to Manhattan in a Brooklyn industrial-chic setting. 88 HAUTE LIVING hauteliving.com
Harriet’s Rooftop
The stadium-like seating is made of pine beams from Brooklyn’s original Domino Sugar Factory, which look great against fire pits and vertical gardens from every angle. Indoors, expect a new-fashioned take on an old-fashioned cocktail lounge. Whether for brunch or dinner, the menu features favorites like chilaquiles and steak frites. 60 Furman St
DEAR IRVING
An elevated perch at the top of Midtown’s Aliz Hotel that feels miles away from its Times Square location, Dear Irving is the highest openair hotel bar and lounge in Manhattan. It’s also the only one with a ‘60s-era vibe, built around mid-century modern stylings, though art deco dominates the design on the second floor. Regardless of which space you end up in, there are sweeping 360-degree views. The cocktail menu includes the classics, as well as spirits produced by female-owned companies. 310 W. 40th St
OPHELIA
Ophelia, in Midtown East, sets the bar higher. Located on the 26th floor of the art deco landmark Beekman Tower, this cocktail lounge celebrates elegant interiors and panoramic views with speakeasy details and excellent drinks to boot. Ophelia’s high design and historical resonance are framed by three paneled windows with original 1920s iron framework, and there are two fully open-air terraces. The menu features old-school caviar service and oysters Rockefeller, while cocktails of note include Ophelia’s Ascension, a smoked-Jamaican-pepper-infused mezcal, bourbon, Sri Lankan palm sugar and aromatic bitters concoction that will knock your socks off. 3 Mitchell Pl

celebration honoring Casey Affleck on May 28. The Oscar winner was accompanied to the soiree, held in a private room at the Fairmont Miramar Hotel & Bungalows in Santa Monica, by stylist to the stars Ilaria Urbinati and former world-ranked Muay Thai champion Johnny Hunt. The evening was presented by timepiece brand Ulysse Nardin, as well as Wine Access, whose MW of wine, Vanessa Conlin, paired the dinner courses with some stellar vintages. The restaurateur and recent Haute Living cover star gave a brief speech, sharing that 3 p.m. is his family’s ideal dinnertime so they can all be in bed by 9. After an exceptional wine-paired luncheon, guests bid on auction items including private plane rides; a Rolls-Royce weekend rental, courtesy of Braman Miami; $2,500 credit for E11even, courtesy of PMG; and a dinner at Carbone New York.
