our story
Established in 1985 as Reynolds Concrete, Flatmade Concrete evolved in 2019 when our third-generation owner and operator Ben Driskell decided to refocus and rebrand the family business. Although our name changed, the company still maintains the high-quality work that has been our foundation since the beginning. Flatmade specializes in decorative concrete for everything from patios and pool decks to driveways, garage and basement floors, and even countertops.
Flatmade handles both remodeling jobs and works with the best custom builders in the area. We are not in this market for volume installs, as our happiness lies in quality. This takes patience and focus, which ultimately has higher labor and material costs that most high-volume builders can’t justify.
Our employees take care of our clients, and we only hire people we would want to work in our own homes. We keep our knowledge and expertise up to date, learning more finishes and more efficient ways to get the basics completed. Our seasoned team members take time to pass their knowledge and experience on to the up-and-coming generation of concrete finishers at Flatmade.
When it comes to company culture, we work hard and play even harder together. We like to get dirty and have fun after a long day’s work. We encourage team members to pursue growth opportunities, start their own businesses, or stay in their position at Flatmade if that is what suits them best.
We truly enjoy transforming entire residential exteriors. We aim for perfection, and our attention to detail delivers the best quality for the best built homes.

PROJECT CONSTRUCTION:
Caring for Concrete
When thinking about a decorative finish, make sure you also consider the frequency and cost of maintenance. Every sealer and finish requires a different amount of maintenance. The timing of the washing and sealing maintenance cycle is different for each concrete project.
• A standard brushed finish is practically maintenance-free. Just wash it down when it gets dirty and seal periodically.
• Exposed aggregate, decorative concrete finish such as pea gravel, or a shimmering sand matrix finish needs only occasional maintenance. Just wash and reseal every two to three years.
• A high-end, decorative finish such as stamped or textured concrete requires more maintenance. You need to wash and reseal this type of finish every year.

Popular Color Choices & Finishes
POLISHED & STAINED
• Staining is a unique way to enhance the natural character of concrete and is best suited to basements, garages, or other interior projects. It is a great cost alternative to traditional flooring. Polishing provides a protective coating, which seals in the colorant and provides depth and luster to the finish. Yearly maintenance will include cleaning, sealing, and possibly waxing.
• Prepping the concrete is important for both polishing and staining. This full day process requires protecting your belongings from dust and slurry.
• Polishing involves using diamond plates to grind down the surface, creating more dust.
• Once the surface is ready, Flatmade applies the stain which needs to sit for up to 24 hours. Next the residue is removed, and the team cleans the space again. Once dry, final sealer is applied.
EXPOSED AGGREGATE
/ SAND MATRIX
• Here at Flatmade, we have developed a proprietary process to get the highest level of beauty from clients’ exposed aggregate surface. Exposed aggregate is a treatment that reveals the stone, pebbles, pea gravel or sand near the surface of the concrete providing an aesthetically beautiful, durable surface perfect for porches, patios and walkways.
• Once the concrete is poured and smoothed out, a surface retardant is applied and the project is covered (don’t be surprised if the sand matrix surface is bright blue!). The team returns the following day to finish the surface (Flatmade promises it doesn’t stay blue).

Testimonials
“I manage the construction of new homes and the remodeling of existing homes, so I’m frequently in need of concrete driveways, sidewalks and patios to be poured.
I’ve been in this business since the mid-90’s and have worked with several different concrete installers. I started working with Flatmade around 2015. The first project we worked on together was a new home where a different concrete installer had attempted to pour the front sidewalk and the concrete dried before they could finish shaping it and it left me with quite a problem.
I asked Randy Tolliver of Sagamore Ready Mix Concrete if he could recommend someone to come and save this sidewalk for me, who would also be a good long-term partner. He immediately suggested Flatmade Concrete. Randy said that he believed Ben and I would be a perfect fit to work together moving forward; he was correct.
Ben is personally invested in every aspect of each concrete project I’ve worked with him on. Once I meet him at a job site and go over all our parameters and goals for the project, I have every confidence that he will get it done. He communicates very well as he understands all the information he needs from me and all the information I need from him. Scheduling exactly when concrete will be poured is a difficult thing to do because of fluid factors such as weather and availability of concrete trucks. Ben keeps me posted as he understands what information I need from him so that I can continue to schedule other building aspects going on all around the concrete portion of a particular construction project.
Over the past three years I have entrusted Flatmade with three very large concrete jobs that included many challenges and each job turned out just as the homeowners and the plans specified. Flatmade also makes time and room in their schedule to get much smaller concrete jobs and repairs completed for me, which I greatly appreciate.
Moving forward I hope Flatmade will continue to make space for me in their schedule!
I strongly recommend Flatmade for concrete projects; they definitely deserve the opportunity. “
