TIMUR D’VATZ
Timur D’Vatz was born into an artists' family. He was brought up in Tashkent, Uzbekistan and there studied at the Republican College of Art. Surrounded by the ancient culture and traditions of Central Asia, cities like Samarkand and Bukhara influenced his interest in history and art. The Silk Route journey between East and West inspired the Byzantine tapestry of colours in Timur's paintings. His iconic images are drawn from myth and legend. The journey continued when Timur moved to Moscow, where he exhibited and regularly visited the Pushkin Museum to draw from the works of antiquity; he did extensive research on human proportion in the museum library. After five years he moved to London. His education continued at the Royal Academy of Arts School, where he received the Sir James Walker and Jack Goldhill scholarships. While studying, he began exhibiting in several well established galleries and actively participating in the London art world. He won the Guinness prize for 'The Best First Time Exhibitor' at the Royal Academy of Arts' Summer Show. He participated in the BP Portrait Award exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery. He spends time between his studio in Normandy and London, where he paints and does research on history and mythology.
