Buda to accept applications for Library Strategic Planning Committee

Buda city manager to retire in March STAFF REPORT BUDA — Buda’s longtime city manager Kenneth Williams announced his resignation to city council members on last week. Williams has served as the city manager with Buda for more than 13 years. A WILLIAMS tenure that began Sept. 8, 2008, is set to end March 31, 2022. “Partnering with the city of Buda has been a highlight of my career,” Williams told the Buda City Council, “with Cynthia and my family thanking you for providing the necessary resources, opportunities and pleasurable events that make for an excellent quality of life during and after our tenure. The citizens, mayors, city councils and having an outstanding staff are all to thank for such a gratifying relationship with significant accomplishments. Thank you, and we wish blessings for the city of Buda and everyone in it for the future.” The city council also passed a motion authorizing the Buda staff to start looking for the next city manager. “I appreciate Mr. Williams for his years of service to the city of Buda and the leadership that you’ve provided over the past many years. You’ve watched us grow up quite a bit, and thank you for that,” said Mayor Lee Urbanovsky. During his time with the city of Buda, Williams made notable accomplishments listed below. • Nurtured a 230% growth rate in population in the expanding Central Texas Austin – San Marcos Metropolitan Statistical Area. • Administered bond propositions, including the construction of a new Buda Municipal Complex, streets, drainage projects and parks infra-

STAFF REPORT BUDA – The city of Buda is looking for people to join a new Library Strategic Planning Committee (LSPC). Applications will be accepted through 5 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 24. The LSPC will advise and provide guidance to the city council and staff regarding the library’s strategic plan update. The city wants a resident's point of view to provide valuable input into the city's operations and decision-making process. “Ultimately, we are striving to get broader citizen input and engagement,” said Buda Library Director Melinda Hodges.

Annexed land ordinance approved for upcoming Kyle supermarket BY BRITTANY ANDERSON

A family-owned group of supermarkets may soon make its way to east Kyle. During the Jan. 4 meeting, Kyle City Council unanimously voted to approve the first reading of an ordinance from JD’s Supermarket to purchase 102 acres of land at SH-21 and E FM 150 in Kyle. Representatives with JD’s Supermarket approached the city a year and a half ago to purchase the land to build a shopping center on 17.3 acres of the land. Per the memorandum, the loca-

tion is a major secondary corridor for vehicular traffic, with IH-35 being the primary corridor. JD’s Supermarket has locations throughout the Greater Austin area. President Adam Ahmad said in the memorandum that they strongly feel that with the abundance of existing and proposed residential developments in the area, along with the connectivity of two major roadways, the tract would be a “great opportunity to provide closer, local commercial, retail, grocery and gas for the entire surrounding area.” Zoning, subdivision, site development, a conditional use permit and

Celebrating MLK Day

The Dunbar Heritage Association will host a threeday MLK Day celebration in honor of Dr. King and in recognition of the 20th anniversary of hosting the celebration.Celebrated on the third Monday in January, this year’s MLK Kids Event is a celebration just for kids ages 3-teens filled with engaging activities, games, and arts & crafts aimed at teaching youth about Dr. Kings legacy. Hays County Recycling & Solid Waste Transfer Stations will be accepting Christmas trees for recycling at both locations through Saturday, Jan. 16, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. While there is no fee for dropping off the tree, all decorations and lights must be removed. Trees will be mulched and the mulch will be used at Hays County Parks.
