Burglary TIGERS WIN Festival of Flight suspect Bi-District arrested advance to Area Playoffs STAFF REPORT

DRIPPING SPRINGS— After an ongoing investigation, Christopher Dale Gainey, 28, was arrested for a string of burglaries that occurred at five businesses in the Dripping Springs area. These burglaries took place from Feb. 6 through April 30 and targeted established businesses that left cash in minimally secured containers on the premises overnight, according to a Hays County Sheriff’s Office news release. Gainey was responsible for burglarizing the following businesses in the Dripping Springs area: Turcotte Butchers & Delicatessen on Feb. 6, the Sated Sheep on April 15, Dantay’s Flowers & Gifts on April 16 and Grand Slam Pizza on April 30. In addition to these burglaries, Gainey has been charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by Felon and Repeated Violation of Court Order. The bonds for Gainey total to $20,000. Hays County Sheriff Gary Cutler commends the deputies and detectives involved in this apprehension and investigation. Business owners should also either remove cash at closing each day or secure it in a secreted or permanently affixed safe, Sheriff Cutler suggested. DRIPPING SPRINGS – The city of Dripping Springs Parks and Community Service Department alongside the Hays County Master Naturalists, the Hays County Master Gardeners, Tree Folks, and Dripping Springs Wild Birds Unlimited will hold the second Annual Festival of Flight, a World Migratory Bird Day event on Saturday, May 14. The Festival of Flight is a free event that will be held at Dripping Springs Ranch Park from 7:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Festival of Flight is one of the worldwide events organized as part of World Migratory Bird Day, a global annual awareness-raising campaign. This local event will help educate attendees on how migrant species play an important economic role in Dripping Springs, how they face a growing number of threats in their summer and winter migrations, and how they are declining throughout the Americas. Various organizations at the event will also share ways individuals can help protect these migrant species. Guided bird hikes will take off at 7:30 a.m., 9:00 a.m., and 10:30 a.m. In between the hikes, families can partake in many of the activities and crafts available. The Festival of Flight is one of many events, activities, and initiatives the city of Dripping Springs holds throughout the year to help protect birds and is part of why Dripping Springs was recently designated a Bird City Texas community. More homes coming to Dripping Springs National developer enters Texas market BY MEGAN WEHRING DRIPPING SPRINGS — A national developer has expanded its footprint into the Texas market with 208 single-family lots, including a handful in the Dripping Springs area. In March, Harbor Custom Development, Inc. closed on its first two single-family homes in the La Ventana community located in Driftwood — which is less than 20 minutes from the city of Dripping Springs. Watching more residents and developers migrate to Texas, especially in the Austin and Hays County areas, Harbor wanted to make its mark. “It’s growing [and]

it has a more robust economy,” said Jeff Habersetzer, COO of Harbor. “We see a business plan of being 20 to 60 minutes outside of the major metropolitan areas and that’s what we are doing here in Texas.” Each lot in Bunker Ranch (Dripping Springs) is an acre and each lot in La Ventana (Driftwood) is 1.6 acres. Homes prices from $900,000 to $2 million. Most of the homes, which showcase modern farmhouse elements, feature four to five bedrooms, three and a half to four bathrooms and two to three-car garages.
