The obliging judge consented to a change of venue for the murder trial and moved it two counties south to Graham. I have been working to raise awareness about our limited water resources in Hays County since the 1980s. Hays County doesn’t have the Highland Lakes chain like Austin, and Canyon Lake does not have another drop of water to sell to anyone in Hays County. This is why I wrote an email to Ruben Becerra, Dr. Michelle Gutierrez
The judge denied bail and had Shook transferred to the county jail in Wichita Falls to await trial. But he had no intention of hanging around for his day in Twocourt.weeks later, the disgraced lawman and five other prisoners jumped the jailer as he served them supper. They knocked him out cold, took his keys and helped themselves to a safe containing the cash and personal property of their fellow inmates before heading out the door.
Shook remained at large until September 1929, when he was arrested for the shooting death of a stranger in Decaturville, Tennessee. Upon discovering their suspect was a fugitive from Lone Star justice, the authorities told the Wichita County sheriff to come and fetch him.Shook was soon back where he had started and under a 24-hour watch to ensure his presence at his next court date. Within the month, he was tried, convicted and sentenced to five years for the armed robbery. But that was merely the warm-up for the big event.

Had Tom Shook always been a crooked cop concealing his crimes behind a badge? If that was true, he sure had fooled a bunch of people during his eight-year career in law enforcement with different departments in North Texas. And the town council in Electra, the Red River boomtown northwest of Wichita Falls, would not had hired him as the new chief of police had he not come highly recommended.Shooklasted no more than a year as Electra’s top cop. Whether he was fired or left of his own accord is unclear eight decades after the fact. From 1950 until 1957, there was a long multi-year drought in Texas and Hays County. During this drought, the annual rainfall averaged seven inches a year. Our normal annual rainfall is 32 inches. As of the 2020 census the Hays County population was 241,000. During this drought farmers had to abandon their fields and butcher their livestock.

Knowing what to do in the face of a natural disaster or other crises can help save lives, and various leaders in Hays County are working to build a stronger, more resilient community to ensure that its residents are prepared for times like this.
Incumbent council members Matt Smith (At-Large Position 1) and Terry Cummings (Single Member District C) were both running unopposed. The deadline to file for candidacy was Aug. 22 and the deadline for a write-in candidacy was Aug. 26.
For Jones, the mission of the fair is simple: if residents are knowledgeable enough to help themselves and others during times of crisis, first responders will not be inundated with 911 calls and they can focus on the situation at hand, not deplete resources and end up being able to help more people.Getting directly involved in some of the local efforts that aim to educate the public in this way is one way to ensure you are prepared. Organizations like Community Emergency Response Team and Texas Search and Rescue allow residents to learn valuable life-saving skills while also assisting first responders.
The Hays County Office of Emergency Services held its fifth annual Emergency Preparedness Fair on Sept. 10 at the Hays CISD Performing Arts Center.

“As these developments come in, even though they look great and everything, we also need to think about that traffic pattern,” Shield said. “It’s a nightmare sometimes. ...This development looks great, but can 150 support it?”Applicant Todd Kaiser with BGK Architects talked briefly about the design and architecture. KYLE — With a 3-3 vote, Kyle City Council decided against moving forward with a rezoning ordinance that rezones approximately 54.23 acres of land from retail services to a Planned Unit Development (PUD). Because sacrificing for homes is not what the area needs,” Flores-Cale said.
Mitchell believes that the council's focus should be on elevating the design standards, particularly out east of Kyle.
“I have fought against straight zoning and the development that comes with straight zoning for a long time, out there in particular, because I’ve seen developers take advantage of the cheap land that’s available to them out East to build rows of houses such as Waterleaf, Post Oak and all those other subdivisions down 150 that I consider to be inferior compared to the standard that we have for our community,” Mitchell said.
