Proposing sensor/meters that will provide real Cme informaCon to residents on their energy usage allowing them to make personal adjustments to save money water, and energy. The potable water consumpCon is esCmated to be 40 % less than tradiConal developments. High performance water fixtures and appliances such as water efficient dishwashers, washing machines, dual flush toilets, faucets and shower that save water without sacrificing personal comfort.
Selected materials, tools and products will feature the enCre project to reduce cancer related illness and to ensure a good health to its inhabitants. The development will treat 100% of its sewage on site and use the treated water for flushing toilets, landscape irrigaCon and water features. Storm water will be treated through farm terraces [green roofs] and flow via a series of connected naturalized creeks and waterways. Also, alternaCve transportaCon will reduce one’s reliance on the automobile. A new car share program will be offered on site altogether with the bicing system.
Social Equity The project tends to meet the basic needs for food, shelter, educaCon, work, income, and safe living and working condiCons. The building is designed to foster social interacCon with the interposing of floors and mezzanines, community connecCvity with the surroundings, and connecCons with natural spaces such as farms and green areas.

For Sustainable Sites, the project will follow the given LEED steps: -‐Preserve and/or relocated exisCng tress. -‐Bioswale will help to the remove polluCon due to water run-‐off -‐The site is also connected to its community, having the main services in a close radius that includes schools, restaurants, pharmacies, stores, supermarkets, bus, metro and bicing staCons. -‐As alternaCve transportaCon bicing and private bicycles, the project will offer bicycle storage areas, changing rooms, and showers. -‐Also, a car sharing program is proposed in the project. The parking will be exclusively for these electric cars. -‐The project tends to maximize open spaces through its farm terraces and green areas, that it will be composed by adapCve and naCve plant. This point will also help to help to reduce the heat island effect. -‐Pervious surfaces will allow to filter and reduce water run-‐off to the ground. These materials also will have a high SRI (Solar Reflect Index). -‐During night, the necessary lights will be working to reduce disrupCon and light polluCon.

The current structure demand shows that: 61% of the water goes to domesCc consumpCon 23% to industrial acCviCes and 16% to agriculture. Within the region, urban consumpCon appears to be declining in the city of Barcelona and in the immediate municipaliCes (due to populaCon and industrial shihs) and growing rapidly in the periphery. According to the Environmental Board for the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona, today’s Barcelona resident consumes approx. 111.4 liZers of water a day versus the almost 115 liZers a day spent 3 years ago. This means a reducCon of 3%. Also, with the current technology, the use of the greywater plant, new waterless devices, and the consciousness of its inhabitants towards the water use, it is expected to save up to 30% of water every day.
Approx. populaCon per block LiZers per person in block EsCmate consume in the self-‐sufficient block

1,000 people. 111.4 x 1,000 = 111,400 l/d 30% of 111,400 l/d = 77,980 l/d

The biomass power systems will burn biological materials and biodegradable waste to produce energy. The lehovers accumulated from the block’s farm terraces and from neighboring blocks [external sources] will not only help to generate green energy the greywater plant [to recycle water back to human use], and therefore to the rest of the building, but it also will contribute to the reducCon of waste directed to landfills and thus lowering environmental contaminaCon. These biomass systems will be used to generate energy and also as compost source for the building’s farms. With newer technology, and more advanced systems it will be also possible to burn any type of waste, “many promising products entering the market that reportedly can burn almost anything, even trash, and can produce power that passes emissions standards.” (*Montoya, 88).
