YO U R L I B R A R Y, W O R K I N G F O R YO U
A recent Pew Internet report found Americans strongly value the role of public libraries in their communities, for providing access to materials and resources, promoting literacy and improving the overall quality of life. Our own recent patron survey confirmed our libraries are well-used and wellloved, and we are working hard to keep it that way. Already this year, in response to patron feedback, we have increased request and reserve limits from 30 items to 50 and extended the CD checkout time from one week to three. Later this spring, we will open a beautiful new Walker Library in Uptown, expand access to eBooks and launch a new responsive website, all with patrons’ needs in mind. We know you visit us in person and online for a variety of reasons – to work, study and play; use computers; browse and pick up materials; ask questions; get book recommendations and more. We know you value our visits to schools, community gatherings and neighborhood meetings, as well. Continue to tell us what service you want from your library. We’ll keep working to provide it in person, online and in the community.
Sing, play and learn together in our family-friendly spaces. M O R E T H I N G S T O D O AT

Event Funding
Hennepin County Library events include programs, classes and more. Some events are available across the system, others are community-specific. All are free and open to the public, and all provide opportunities for residents to be active and vitally engaged. In 2013, about 210,000 adults, teens and children attended library-sponsored events.

Our Friends As an independent nonprofit organization, Friends of the Hennepin County Library (www.supporthclib.org) is the primary vehicle of support for private fundraising for our system. Friends of HCL raises critically needed funds; presents cultural programs; and coordinates the 41 volunteer local Friends groups. In 2013, this funding community provided approximately $1.4 million in total support – giving more than $760,000 in direct cash support to the Library and $660,000 in indirect support through programming, public awareness activities and other activities.
Sponsors, Partners and Collaborators Another way the Library delivers high-quality events is by working with respected community sponsors, partners and collaborators. For example: Y O U N G D A N C E (www.youngdance.org), which encourages
youth to build body and spirit through the creative art of dance, delivers Dance Together, interactive dance classes for children 1 and up. T H E L O F T L I T E R A R Y C E N T E R (www.loft.org), one of the nation’s leading literary arts centers, offers First Pages, writing workshops for kids, teens and adults.
The M E T R O P O L I T A N A R E A A G E N C Y O N A G I N G (www.tcaging.org), which helps individuals in the metro area to age successfully, teaches Senior Surf Day, computer classes for adults 55+. (Pictured above.)
Our generous Friends, sponsors, partners and collaborators are too numerous to list here. Learn more about how specific events are funded at www.hclib.org/events.
Legacy Amendment Since 2011, the Library has greatly increased the variety of events offered thanks to the taxpayers of Minnesota through the Minnesota Legacy Amendment Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund (www.legacy.leg.mn). In 2013 alone, 400-plus events were attended by more than 9,000 patrons thanks to this funding.
