Province welcomes 24% more travellers in first quarter of 2023 than in 2022
Between January and April 2023, hotel establishments in the province of Cadiz welcomed 23% more tourists than in the same period of 2022. This is the main conclusion taken from the Report on the Hotel Tourism Situation produced each month by the National Statistics Institute, which was published this morning.
Overnight stays in the first quarter also experienced a large increase, rising to 1,564,988 so far in 2023, which is 20.37% more than in the same period of 2022.
José María Román, first vice-president of the Provincial Council of Cádiz and delegate for tourism, placed value on this data “especially if we bear in mind that we are still in the off season. The average occupancy was 38.68%, a very positive percentage for this time of year.”
In the first four months of the year, the hotel offering in the province amounted to 31,598 beds, a figure that will gradually increase as summer increases.
For the delegate , the staff employed by hotels in the province is also notable, the number also increased compared to the first quarter of 2022, specifically by 17.37%.
A very positive month of April
The figures of April 2023 also spoke by themselves and were very positive compared to 2022. It is necessary to bear in mind that both Holy Week in 2023 and that of 2022 fell in this month, therefore on this occasion the periods are comparable, which is not the case when Holy Week falls in a different month from one year to the next.
Hotels in the province recorded 292,272 tourists in April this year, compared to the 240,758 of last year. Of every three tourists staying in the province, two were Spaniards.
With regard to overnight stays, April 2023 recorded 110,000 more than in April 2022. There were 731,380 this year, compared to 621,948 last year. This demand has been reflected in employment. In April this year, hotel establishments in the province provided employment to 900 people more than in April last year.
