elcome 2014! Here we go again. It is that time of year when we make our new year’s resolutions, or has that gone by the wayside now that smart technology seems to run the show. I say that with tongue in cheek, because I am not that enthralled with these electronic gadgets that are supposed to keep us more up-to-speed and “social.” No, I am not a Bahhum-burger. I am a realist. And yes, when it comes to business I am all for email, telephones and “LinkedIn” to keep in touch with my clients and my vendors. When it comes to family, friends and my personal goals, I like to use old fashion methods. For one, the telephone: what a novel invention. However today, more people use it like Morse code instead of engaging their vocal cords.
H
ere’s to a New Beginning…
“For last year’s words belong to last year’s language and next year’s words await another voice.”
I apologize for the long soliloquy, however in completing my new year’s resolution project I used the good old-fashioned method: scissors, glue, poster board, magic markers and a cup of hot cocoa. You guessed it, I built a vision board and it is posted right above my desk so that every day I see and meditate on my business and personal goals.
- T.S. Eliot
Happy New Year to all of you, and it is my wish that you honor all of the commitments you have made to yourself and to your business partners. Integrity is a human quality that should not be taken for granted or lost; integrity and being true to your word goes a long way in both personal and business relationships. What’s on your 2014 resolution list?
- G.K. Chesterton
“Good resolutions are simply checks that men draw on a bank where they have no account.” - Oscar Wilde “The object of a new year is not that we should have a new year. It is that we should have a new soul.”
“Be always at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let each new year find you a better man.” - Benjamin Franklin “The beginning is the most important part of the work.” -Plato
Best in Health and Happiness,

Who Benefits from Sleeping Pills? Sleeping pills are a goldmine for the pharmaceutical industry. In 2011 alone, an estimated 40 million prescriptions for such drugs were dispensed. In 2011, sales of generic Ambien (zolpidem tartrate) amounted to a whopping $2.8 billion and Lunesta another $912 million. Prescription sleep aids are some of the most heavily marketed drugs to the public. Lunesta’s manufacturer, Sepracor, spent more than $215 million and added 450 salespeople to its physician marketing staff just to pitch the drug to doctors in 2005, when it was released. And it paid off. Lunesta generated $329 million in sales its first nine months--with one sleep specialist saying it was the only time he’d ever experienced “a line of people outside his door waiting to try a new medicine.” Unfortunately, the dangers of these drugs are as impressive as the profits they generate for Big Pharma. By taking prescription sleeping pills, you may be unknowingly putting your life in danger.

here’s almost nothing worse than experiencing ear pain, itching, loss of hearing, or a sinus headache.
Ear Candling is an ancient practice, dating back to biblical times in Egypt, the Orient, as well as European cultures. This simple, gentle treatment removes wax from the ear, improving your sense of wellbeing, physical, mental and even spiritual. The candle is a long hollow tube made from unbleached muslin immersed in an aromatic herbal solution. After it dries, the cone is then dipped into beeswax. The cone or candle is then placed into the ear opening and the top of the cone is lit; soft warm white smoke billows down the tube into the ear and softens the wax. The flame on top of the cone creates a vacuum that pulls out built up wax, toxins, bacteria, dirt and residue from past medications. Ear Candling may also help with a dry hacking cough (a result of a sinus infection), sinus headache, tinnitus, and itchy ear. Today more people are seeking alternatives to digging in the ear with Q-tips or using a hydrogen peroxide flush to clean a blocked ear canal. Ear Candling is a relaxing, natural, non-intrusive treatment. References: Tatum, Anne. Ear Candling. A.P. Enterprises. 1995.

The Psychology and Value of Emotional Containment Written By Andy Drymalski, EdD
“R
gratitude? You can’t always predict what they will become.
emember, you have warrior’s blood in your veins. The code that made your father who he was is the same code that will make you a man he would admire, respect. Put your pain in a box. Lock it down. Like those people in the paintings your father liked, we are men made up of boxes, chambers of loss and triumph. Of hurt and hope and love. No one is stronger or more dangerous than a man who can harness his emotions. His past…Use it as fuel, as ammunition. As ink to write the most important letter of your life.” (Chief Dave’s letter to a deceased officer’s son; from the movie, Act of Valor.)
Once in the box, your emotions can be utilized and discharged with a controlled intensity that is more likely to hit its mark. Uncontrolled emotions, on the other hand, spray like steam from a burst radiator. A spoiled child throwing a temper tantrum has no box to place his anger in. Help him build a box and he may someday become a man. A dependent woman who falls for abusive men lacks the proper box to place her love in. Help her build a box and she may be able to temper her love with careful restraint, reason and discernment.
The above advice may seem to run counter to the conventional psychological wisdom. We are told that anger, grief, sorrow, etc., should be expressed so that they can be let go of, so that we can move on with our lives. To be sure, the expression of emotions is often helpful--even essential--to healing, personal growth and healthier relationships. But there are also times when your emotions must be harnessed and contained.
Place your emotions in a box, not to ignore but to hold and contain them. Give them time to percolate through your being, like rainwater through parched soil, so that the seed of your soul can be awakened and take root. For more info, contact Dr. Andy Drymalski, Reno and Carson City psychologist at (775) 786-3818, or visit online at More articles at Jungstop.com. See ad this page.
Have you known people who are habitually angry? They vent their anger yet never seem to move beyond it. Their anger is like a drug; the more they express it, the more they grow it. Or, perhaps you know someone who is caught in a whirlpool of regret, guilt or self-criticism. Instead of moving on from their self-perceived errors, they recycle them. They dwell on them, add to, bolster and build upon them. They have become their own worst enemy. Clearly, there is a time for expressing your feelings, and a time to put them in a box. When you put your emotions in a box you initiate a kind of moratorium. When they are in a box, you have time to reflect on them, contemplate and learn from them. In the box they are contained. Like is added to like: hurt to hurt, anger to anger, joy to joy and loss to loss. Through this process, a pressure and “heat” is created that may fuel a process of inner transformation. Perhaps your hurt will become compassion; your frustration, surrender; your anger, conviction or courage; your guilt, humility; your sorrow, forgiveness; your joy,

“A View from the Inside“ of a Secret Society

t is well established that an individual who becomes a member of a secret society achieves success not only in wealth, but also in a higher understanding of universal laws, relationships, health and business endeavors. There is a threshold of intention through which one must pass. An intrinsic part of the initiation is the assumption of complete and absolute responsibility for everything, whether good or bad, that has happened to you in your entire life, including childhood--everything, period. Once one understands the process, the learning begins.
picture--how your success will “feel”--and not to get caught up in the physical minutia of the project. You must know these concepts with depth and clarity so they become an unconscious competence within you. The starting point is to “feel good all the time;” have a positive attitude about yourself and the reality that you create. Know in your heart you are worthy of the benefits coming to you and be allowing of others. You dare not create anything with negativity in your “mind or heart,” as the outcome will be exactly what you do not want. You must BE happy, joyful, loving and feeling gratitude and our free-will Universe will open up to you and your every desire. Do you believe?
The accumulation of great fortunes calls for “power,” and power is acquired through highly organized and intelligently directed specialized knowledge. If you find yourself profoundly curious about the guarded secret information and are drawn to find out more, you are a possible candidate. There is an ancient Buddhist proverb, “When the student is ready, the Master appears.” To be selected, however, you must already possess integrity, intelligence and a willingness to think outside of the box; an aptitude to shift your paradigms.
How do you change your beliefs, your reality? The process starts with your 3-pound brain that has 100 billion neurons, which are interconnected via at least 100 trillion synapses. Make an “intention” to change your neural pathways, or nerve tracts, from your trainedfrom-birth negative thoughts to your new-and-improved positive thoughts. We humans perceive around 11 million perceptions per second; however, the normal brain can consciously manage only about 40 of the sensory impressions per second. So, to recreate your reality, discover your purpose and develop advanced capabilities far beyond your current beliefs, you must exceed the limits of your perception and access higher “frequencies.”
As with a mentor-apprentice relationship, you must first understand that you don’t know what you don’t know. Then, have a high teachability index and agree to be open-minded about concepts yet unknown and possibly even foreign to you. Finally, you must grasp the training balance scale which instructs you to keep your positive “thoughts and emotions” on the big

Are You Ready… Is it Your Time?
In 1928, Napoleon Hill wrote, The Law of Success in Sixteen Lessons. The wealthy who were interviewed received the first publication, objected to the content and the book was never sold as written. The “secrets” did not reach the public. In the original book, Hill wrote that an extremely high vibration, or “frequency,” creates the “power” with which man thinks and concluded: thoughts are things; every human brain is both a broadcasting and receiving station for vibrations of thought frequency; and every mind, or brain, is directly connected with every other brain by means of the ether, the medium through which the vibration travels. Thus, the “Master Mind”--like-minded people creating synergy of thought and vibration (frequency)--can manifest untold wealth, or whatever the objective is.
To Take Command of Your Future
In the 1970s, Joseph Chilton Pearce postulated that the heart was both neural and muscle tissue. After hundreds of case studies showing that, in heart transplants, the receiver of the heart gets the memories of the donor, Neurocardiologists revisited Pearce’s study and later found that approximately 65 percent of the heart is neural cells identical to the brain, operating through the same connecting links called ganglia, with the same axonal and dendritic connections through the same kinds of neurotransmitters. The conclusion is that the brain in our heart “feels and thinks,” and uniquely enables humans to express emotions that connect with the emotional and thinking mind in our head.

We have not even touched on the aspects of relationships, health techniques, body-energy modalities, spiritualism (not religion), tuning into invention and tapping into the time-space continuum. The vast body of knowledge taught in the ancient Egyptian mystery schools took years to learn and the information discussed above is in no way the totality of the teachings. What it does show is that today’s sciences have unwittingly been able to prove some of the pieces of the puzzle--some of the “secrets.” How can the teachings improve one’s life and future? The answer lies within each individual apprentice. Assuming your curiosity has been piqued, have you decided you don’t want to simply survive, but rather gloriously thrive?

Therapy for Chronic
Sinus Congestion Part 1
T
Written By JeanAnn Fitzgerald of chronic sinus problems are sore throat, achy ears, white or yellow mucus drainage, headache above or below the eyes, headache at the base of the skull, upset stomach and bad breath.
he fall season is rough for those with persistent sinus problems. It becomes difficult to breathe due to goldenrod, sage and other pollinators. Many people say prayers for an early hard freeze to send these plants into dormancy.
Allergic rhinitis is a major respiratory health problem that affects between 10 to 30 percent of adults and more than 40 percent of children worldwide, and the percentages are growing. This condition negatively affects the patient’s quality of life, school or work performance, social interaction, and creates a financial burden. It is a risk factor for asthma and many patients also suffer from atopic dermatitis and conjunctivitis, nasal polyps, upper respiratory infections, sleep disorders and impaired learning in children.
About the same time, cleaning up summer’s leftovers means inhaling dust and smoke while raking and burning leaves. Later on, the house furnace will blow full blast. This dries any moisture in the home causing the airways and sinus cavities to dry out and become further irritated. When the warm weather returns, so do the blooming ornamental trees with more pollen. Maybe there’s even a trip to Burning Man with all the dust 60,000 people can stir up.
With the sinuses blocked and nasal passages swollen, the breathing alternative is through the mouth. But the throat may be swollen too and the tongue may relax enough to close off the throat, which results in snoring. Snoring can cause excessive daytime drowsiness, poor concentration and place a strain on relationships.
The moisture in the sinus and nasal cavities traps this dust and pollen--plus germs and viruses. These areas produce a clear, thin mucus that washes this debris down into the stomach where the gastric acid destroys them. If these invading forms were not disposed of, they would travel down the throat into the bronchi and lungs. Or they would stay in the nasal and sinus cavities to wreak allergy havoc. It is normal for these cavities to produce between one and two pints of sinus drainage every day.
A study at the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit reveals the snoring vibration causes changes in the carotid arteries that nourish the brain. When compared to non-snorers, snorers were found to have a significantly greater thickness of these arteries’ walls. This is the first sign of carotid artery disease, which leads to hardening of the arteries.
Especially in dry climates, many of us battle year-round nasal congestion that can end in several sinus and/or ear infections, followed by antibiotics throughout the year. Other symptoms

frontal cavities are right above the eyebrows. Unless congested, these areas drain easily due to gravity. But they do not drain well when lying down or sleeping. Maxillary sinuses rest just below the eyes and do not ever drain easily, but do so better when lying or sleeping. Because of this, they are especially prone to infection, which can spread throughout the sinuses, ear canals and throat. The easy solution is to take antihistamines and decongestants to dry up the mucus. But that’s the problem--they dry everything out. There’s no thin clear mucus to protect the tissues and dispose of the irritants. The sinuses and airways remain vulnerable to the next allergen onslaught.

Breast Cancer Prognosis Written By Robert A. Eslinger, D.O., H.M.D.
...You do have Choices!
B
reast cancer prognosis is a much misunderstood and misused term. Prognosis itself is a medical word used for predicting the likely outcome of one’s current diagnosis. It is, at best, an educated guess.
one can patent ultraviolet light.
So, if your doctor gave you a “prognosis,” it sounds scary. What you really want right now is some concrete information, instead of numbers and percentages.
No two cancers are alike, just as no two patients are alike. There are many non-physical factors that will impact the outcome for any given patient. These subconscious attitudes/beliefs can assist the healing, or interfere with it.
GcMAF (macrophage activating factor) and TCRP (T-cell rich plasma) are two types of immune therapies used to strengthen the immune system and “decloak” the cancer cells.
What you need to know is that there are choices for you. You do not have to do the triad of chemo, radiation and surgery, which is what most doctors tell you are the only way to go.
Dr. Gerhard Hamer, of Germany, has a theory that cancer develops after a person experiences an unexpected severe emotional/psychological “conflict/shock” that can trigger the start of cancer in the tissue.
There are therapies being used in other parts of the world that have been found to be effective but are being ignored in most parts of this country. In Nevada, we are able to offer these therapies and people do not have to leave the country to receive them.
It is for this reason I tell patients that my two foundational principles are: 1) There is no such thing as “false hope,” and 2) The time to give up hope is AFTER you take your last breath! I have seen people recover from Stage 4 disease and they are alive and healthy today.
For example, Reno Integrative Medical Center’s goal is to not only eliminate cancer, but to also end up with a healthy patient when it is all over. One of the tools used to reach that goal is Insulin Potentiated Therapy. This treatment utilizes the cancers’ greater need for sugar as a weapon against it. It is done by dropping blood sugar to a point where the cancer is weaker, and then being able to target those cancer cells with different compounds that are deadly to them but do not affect normal cells.
This is why the official prognosis (educated guess) carries very little weight with me.
Ultraviolet blood irradiation (recognized by the FDA) is another therapy used to kill cancer cells, and it boosts the strength of the immune system by exposing a blood sample to ultraviolet lights. This treatment was developed in the United States in the 1920s, but it has been ignored in favor of high priced drugs because no

The High-Antioxidant Answer to Weight Loss with Healthy
Chocolate
Submitted By Kathy Woodward

Over the last couple of decades, scientists have increasingly focused on cocoa and chocolate as well as cacao, the plant food they are made from, as a source of optimal nutrition. The primary aspect of cacao’s health benefits resides in it being one of the top antioxidant containing foods known today. Antioxidants are compounds that neutralize free radicals or rogue molecules, which our bodies combat daily. Pollution, stress and an unhealthy lifestyle all play a part in the creation of these rogue molecules that damage cells and tissues in the body and contribute to literally dozens of diseases, including obesity.
veryone loves chocolate, right? But when it comes to healthy foods, most people don’t typically include chocolate on the list. For decades, we’ve been told repeatedly that chocolate is a sinful indulgence, loaded with fat, sugar and calories, which contributes only to poor health. That view, however, is changing as a huge body of research overwhelmingly shows that cocoa and chocolate possess a wide range of health benefits, from cardiovascular and brain health to improved energy and immune function. When talking about chocolate and its health benefits, it’s crucial to know one thing--not all chocolate is created equal.
Most of us get our antioxidants from fruits and vegetables.

and include heart disease, cancer and diabetes. Now, scientists are adding obesity to that list. The good news is that a high-antioxidant diet can help neutralize free radicals and the increased tendency of gaining weight. The best news is that cacao, the primary ingredient in chocolate, provides a superior source of antioxidants.
Cacao contains several classes of antioxidants, including flavanols and flavonoids, both of which are known to protect the body in a variety of ways. Hundreds of studies show that the flavanols, and other antioxidants in cacao, are powerful protectors of the human body.
Chocolate can suppress the appetite and is known to improve mood through the modulation of brain chemicals that contribute to emotional and mental wellbeing. Highantioxidant chocolate can also support already healthy blood-sugar levels, boost energy and increase metabolism.

drink that retained the antioxidant richness of cacao. Not too long after it was imported to Europe, however, chocolatiers discovered that adding alkali to cacao, a process called, “dutching,” could reduce the bitterness of the cacao and improve its flavor. Unfortunately, dutching also significantly degraded the nutrient content of the chocolate. Modern chocolate manufacturers have continued the practice of “dutching,” as well as the incorporation of sugars, unhealthy fats and chemicals. Therefore, the end product of most chocolates little resembles the antioxidant-rich cacao brought forth centuries ago.
Chocolate Shows Weight Loss Potential The obesity plague in modern society is real. In fact, health experts are now saying obesity is overtaking heart disease as the number-one killer in America. Obesity costs the country as much as $147 billion every year, not to mention countless lives and untold suffering; and that amount will certainly continue to grow. Interestingly, however, science is beginning to make a strong connection between free radical damage, also known as oxidative stress, and weight gain. Free radicals are unstable rogue molecules that roam the body, damaging cells, tissues and organs. The results of oxidative stress are widespread

Improving Anxiety Relief

rogesterone to the Rescue
A new player has been revealed to us for the war on anxiety. It is an old friend employed in a powerful new way. Dr. Michael Platt, MD in his book The Miracle of Bio-identical Hormones not only reviews the great effects of progesterone for the customary female ills (PMS, infertility, menstrual cramps, fibroids, ovarian cysts, breast cancer, endometriosis but also anxiety, ADD, ADHD, insomnia and panic attacks) not only in females, but also in males and children. Dr. Platt lectured at the Nevada Homeopathic and Integrative Medical Association meeting in September and entitled his talk “Adrenalin Dominance.” Adrenalin is both a neurotransmitter (stimulating brain chemical) as well as a hormone. He feels it is virtually unrecognized by the medical community and that it has a profound affect on health. Conditions such as fibromyalgia, ADHD, depression, insomnia, anger (including road rage), RLS (restless leg syndrome), chronic interstitial cystitis, IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), hyperemesis gravidarum (vomiting of pregnancy), PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder), bed-wetting in children, PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), alcoholism and drug addiction are all related to adrenalin dominance. In addition, adrenaline can exacerbate conditions such as hypertension, diabetes and weight issues. Adrenalin dominance can be defined as the persistent release of adrenalin in response to non-threatening stressors. Hypoglycemia

(low blood sugar) in the brain is a powerful stimulus to the release of adrenaline. Low blood sugar in the brain is the primary cause for a person to have excess adrenalin other than danger or survival issues. Progesterone is Also an Adrenal Hormone As we have often discussed the adrenal cortex, the outside of the adrenal gland, which sits on top of the kidneys, is worn down by stress. One of the cortex’s main jobs is to store blood sugar in the liver. When the adrenal can’t store blood sugar in the body, the brain signals for the adrenalin in the adrenal medulla (middle part of the adrenal gland) to dump into the blood stream to convert fat into sugar. It works great, people don’t die, but they get the adrenalin surge, which brings all of the behavior and illness symptoms with it. Progesterone is an adrenal hormone, which is high in the cascade of adrenal hormones to support strong blood sugar storage. Our clinic is famous for a weekly time-release adrenal complex shot with B12 and folic acid. It gives blood sugar for the body for up to one week, B vitamins, vitamin C, vitamin A and a low sugar, low food allergy diet (milk, gluten, soda, gum) diet support the adrenal to maintain blood sugar. Supporting neurotransmitter burnout by administering amino acid precursors of serotonin and norepinephrine are also important. Getting rid of as much life stress as possible, emotional stress, viruses, parasites, heavy metals, etc. all help take the load off the adrenal. We are generally

Since 1975, I have prescribed topical progesterone cream administration for all the female issues listed above. It is also very, very helpful for anxiety in men and women and is good for ADD, insomnia and bed wetting in children. This is a new frontier in bio-identical hormone therapy. However, not everyone resonates with progesterone. Overdose may cause fatigue in some. It is recommended that individuals be tested (energetic testing) for their specific sensitivity.

Fibromyalgia and Stress “It’s all in your Head” Part II
Written By Martin Rutherford, D.C., C.C.S.T. and Randall Gates, D.C., D.A.C.N.B.
T
o recap: Yes, the pain is in your head--but you’re not crazy. In Part I, we discussed how it’s the brain that actually processes pain. This is why the medical model’s approach is to give painkillers or medications that alter the patient’s brain’s ability to process or perceive pain. We discussed “nocioception,” the process of stimulated nerve cells that perceive pain stimulus (burns, inflammation, infection, traumatic wounds, etc.) to send signals to the spinal cord and brain that usually--but not always--cause the perception of pain (acute or chronic) in the brain. We discussed that overwhelming pain (the chronic pain of Fibromyalgia and all chronic pain conditions) goes to an area of the brain called the Cingulate Gyrus. This is where the human brain must be activated and perpetually stimulated to create the perception of chronic pain. Lastly, we discussed how this area makes chemicals (5HTP, Melatonin, Seratonin, Endorphins, and other “morphine like chemicals”) to inhibit chronic pain mechanism. We will now go on to the “how” and “why” of what overwhelms this protective mechanism and causes it to break down and not allow it to resynchronize itself to stop the pain.

Causes of pain in general are exhaustive. For sake of discussion, let us focus on the most common of the 80 or so neurological and biochemical causes that break down the brain’s pain filtering mechanism, and let’s do so by focusing on those who experience pain all over their bodies (i.e. Fibromyalgia, Rheumatoid arthritis, Lupus, Crohns, Scleroderma suffers etc.) Unfortunately, their pain is often severe. So severe that these patients develop something called super sensitivity, or more scientifically “central sensitization.” In other words, “fibro” and other chronic pain suffers may exhaust the pain filtering

Inflammation as (just one of many) physiological aspect of chronic pain. Inflammation is indeed a cause of chronic pain. Inflammation has become a “catch all” term in our society. Many products purport to be antioxidants and to decrease inflammation, and they may do this temporarily or possibly if you take them forever. But do they actually get to the true cause as so many claims? No. Inflammation is complex and can be created by “scores” of factors. The fact is most of these factors can be resolved without drugs and in most cases even without herbs, botanicals or antioxidants.
Fibromyalgia and Stress “It’s all in your Head” Part II Continued from Page 19
mechanism due to perpetual “nocioceptive” stimuli, i.e. those listed above and develop the ability to perceive pain ten times more acutely than the average person would experience from the exact same stimulus. This is not an ability one wants to develop. While they may have “arthritis” in their back, neck or hands, the “arthritis” diagnoses alone does not necessarily explain the magnitude of the pain and suffering they experience.
Inflammation in many chronic pain patients is frequently immune in origin, meaning the immune system is overactive! As a result, this inflammation can cause nocioceptive neurons (remember? Pain carrying nerve cells) coming into the spinal cord to--again-become more sensitive and then cause other pain carrying fibers in the spinal cord to also become more sensitive. The end result: again the balance of the nervous system is shifted away from preventing these signals from reaching the brain, to instead having increased pain signals flood the brain, overwhelming its pain filtering mechanisms, and resulting in the individual experiencing an increased “probability” of pain and suffering.
It is now known that there are many, many biochemically and neurologically mediated factors that can cause pain. Let’s discuss some of the most common i.e. stress, adrenaline and inflammation. Stress as a neurological cause of pain. Stress can serve a good purpose but more often than not, it creates a rather negative force in our physiology. Stress hormones, which are secreted from the now “infamous” adrenal glands located on top of the kidneys, come in two different components. One is termed cortisol and the other is adrenaline.
Today we have relatively accurate and valuable lab tests to test for inflammation. Five to ten lab markers can be run by physicians to assess for a wide variety of different types of inflammation that may be due to the immune system, vitamin deficiencies, autoimmune disease, blood sugar problems, adrenal dysfunction, gut dysfunction, and more often than not, a combination of the above and other conditions. It can get complex. But, find the true root cause and resolve it and you can generally rescue or control the pain without drugs or even many supportive herbs.
Adrenaline is important to pain sufferers as it causes nocioceptive “pain carrying” fibers terminating in the spinal cord to become much more sensitive. This shifts the nervous system’s balance away from not feeling pain to now feeling pain more readily. This occurs because adrenaline will cause more of the pain signals to be sent to the brain.
So back to Gina, our fibro patient in Part I (December issue). There should now be a greater understanding of the poorly understood brain and neurological components of pain and how “it’s not pain until it reaches her brain.” And also, why Gina was correct in thinking the pain was in her head. Never assume that you or a friend is crazy or “making up” pain. You know what you feel. Instead, bring parts I and II of this article to your medical or alternative doctor and have them explore the true undiagnosed neurological or biochemical causes for what you’re feeling. You’ll have a much better chance to get well.
Unfortunately, many Americans are under chronic stress. Humans still have a primitive stress response in order to allow us to “fight or flee” from the bear or the lion. Today, many Americas are under perpetual stress relative to work deadlines, finances, relationships, academic and work performances to name just a few. A must-read for any chronic pain sufferer is “Why Zebras Don’t Get Ulcers” by Rob Sapalski Ph D. Dr. Sapalski is the world’s foremost researcher on stress via his work at Stanford University. In this book, he clearly describes the ravaging effects of stress on the human body and brain.

In clinical experience, it becomes clear that a subgroup of chronic pain sufferers have been exposed to extremely high levels of stress for long periods of time. The research confirms this fact. Many have been exposed to physical, emotional, or sexual abuse and chronic pain, which is a stress mechanism in and of itself. Investigators believe that the chronic stress of these extreme circumstances “prime the system” toward feeling chronic and increased sensitivity to pain. This is particularly true with “fibro” sufferers.

A New Beginning Written By June Milligan, M.Ed., CCHt, PLR

t’s time to get the act together and start taking action on the things we’ve been talking about for so long. January is usually when people make new resolutions and try to make them stick. But whether it’s a new day, a new month or a new year, the important thing is to decide what we want and to take some action (no matter how small) toward that goal every day. Consistency is vital. And one of the most important things about working toward a goal is to be able to imagine how you would feel when you get it. But just as important as the joy of final achievement are the feelings of pride and satisfaction along the way as you take the necessary action. Whether the desired goal is releasing weight, passing a test, increasing your sales or getting a better

job, it takes some excitement about the end product in order to keep us going through the steps. It’s also vital to have some quick techniques to neutralize the negativity that seems to be constantly swirling around us. Whether that negativity comes from your family, job or the culture, it can have a powerfully detrimental effect on your energy level. We get what we focus on, whether we want it or not. So if your focus is consistently on the negative, it will lower your vibrational frequency so drastically that you will not have the physical or mental energy to work toward your goal. Regaining your excitement regularly through consistent imagination and visualization is necessary in order to counter the negativity. And only you know what the steps are to move toward your goal.

Only you know what the energy drains are; which people or situations sap your energy and cause procrastination to take over. Therefore only you can do anything about it. It comes down to the decision of whether or not we’re going to keep the old habits of thinking, the old frustrations and realities or if we’re willing to make the necessary mental and physical changes so we can create something different. It’s simple but it isn’t always easy. Most of us don’t realize how much of the time we spend thinking
Decide what you want. Figure out what steps will be necessary to achieve it and decide what you need to let go of in your life and what you need to add. Find at least one person who will support you in your goals. Use your brilliant imagination to visualize the end result; stay focused on the prize and take consistent action. If you need assistance, find someone who can teach you how to control your thinking, or how to set realistic time lines for your progress or how to keep your expectations high and increase your confidence. Most important of all: take action every day, beginning today.

The basis of this life is freedom, the purpose is joy and the result is personal growth. Our role here is to utilize the energy that is available all around us. We are energy-flowing beings--we are focusers, perceivers, and creators. There could be nothing worse than to come forth into this Earth environment where there is such incredible contrast between what we do want and what we don’t--where desire is so easily born--and not allow the positive energy that surrounds us to flow toward us. That is a true squandering of life. So control your thoughts, constantly refine your intentions and expect the best. That will make you unstoppable and make 2014 your best year ever! References: 1. negatively. Many times, we are thinking of the lack of what we want rather than what it would be like and what it would feel like to have what we want. Therefore, we’re just attracting more lack. It’s a fine line and a little bit tricky, but if you’ll become an observer of your thoughts, you’ll see the difference and you can make the changes. It’s been said that in order to be happy we have to have three things: something to believe in, something or someone to love and something to look forward to. We are made up of energy, of vibrational frequencies, and we live in a quantum soup of the same. The frequencies of our thoughts, expectations and beliefs have a powerful affect on what we attract to ourselves. Just because we can’t see the frequencies we’re sending out, or the ones we’re receiving from others, doesn’t mean they aren’t there. But we do have a built-in translator of those frequencies: our emotions. That built-in emotional guidance system tells us whether what we’re experiencing is beneficial for us or harmful. So, if we pay attention to our emotions, they’ll tell us what to do more of and what to get rid of in our lives.

The Wonder of New Life Written By Allison Prater

They remind us that all human minds, young and old, are tuned to the same fundamental wavelength, and that we can all read minds--we just pretend that we can’t as we get older and find that our culture demands duplicity.
Being in the presence of a new being is truly a wondrous experience. In the first days of my son’s life, my husband and I barely slept. Not because we were up and down with a crying babe, but because we were so captivated by him. We couldn’t take our eyes off him. To describe the purity and sweetness of

him defies words, but it is something that I have witnessed in all new beings that I have been in the presence of.
There is a gazillion dollar racket built around toys and devises meant to distract and pacify babies to better assist adults in their busy lives. I think that a lot of these items, especially toys that produce a lot of artificial sounds or have light up parts, have less to do with nurturing our babies’ growth and development and more to do with convenience for adults. It’s not my intention to be judgmental by saying this. Even though we are parents, we still have other important responsibilities to juggle. Sometimes we need to leave the house by 8am sharp, sometimes the magazine article is due…errr…oops… yesterday (hi Ffjorren!). Toys and other “baby soothing” products can be helpful when juggling responsibilities.
As a new parent, one of the things I’m learning is how to abide personal questions from strangers. One that particularly perplexes me is the question, “Is he a good baby?” What does that even mean? How am I supposed to respond? The spirit of meanness in me is tempted to shoot back with, “are you asking if he’s good at being a baby? I guess.” Really what they’re asking me is either, 1) is he a happy baby, or 2) does he stop fussing long enough for me to bathe and sleep on occasion? The answer to both questions is yes, and I could nauseate you by going on at length about his sweetness. I have been blessed with a happy and healthy baby, no doubt. I suspect that even if he kept me awake nights with colic, or had some other issue that was making him fussy, I would still see his inherent sweetness and love him unconditionally. Unconditional love does not require qualifiers such as “good” or “bad.”
One of the biggest things that my son taught me so far is presence. He is so fully present in each moment because he is a new being on this earth. Everything he is experiencing is fresh for him, and he’s learning at every moment. He is just as content watching his shadow on the wall or looking at detail in the grain of wood on the floor as he is playing with a toy. He is learning so much just being, feeling, seeing, hearing and tasting. A battery powered toy can say, “the cow goes moo” an infinite number of times to him, but if that bright light up toy has his focus, he probably won’t notice the bird at the window. If he’s strapped into a car seat or swing all day, he’s not learning how to move his body. By giving him the space to be present in his world--to play and move freely--allows him to learn things through his own observation and experience. All babies are good babies; they all possess that wonder and sweetness. It is our responsibility as parents to preserve this quality as best we can.
I also find it troubling the notion that implies that good babies don’t cry, or that I only hear my son being praised as “good” when he is content and not interrupting the activities of the adults around him. I believe when babies cry they are communicating a sincere need. They are hungry, or wet; they need the security of being held close or need to be moved around, etc. They don’t cry to annoy or inconvenience, or to manipulate us into attending to their desires. They are too new in this world to have developed the wants that we adults have.
When I remember to take a deep breath and know that the stove can be turned down for a moment, or that the laptop will still be there, but that my son’s needs are truly immediate, I feel a lot less tense. Even though my son is a happy baby, he’s still a baby. He still demands the majority of my attention at any moment. He still needs to be close to me for a lot of the day and night. Becoming his mother has been wonderful, and it has completely changed the way my time is spent. Being a parent still requires a tremendous amount of energy, and is still challenging. I find that the times I feel myself get frustrated is when his needs for my attention interrupt a task or activity. When I’m trying to finish dinner, or a magazine article, or do just 15 minutes of a yoga practice. My frustration has nothing to do with him being good or bad, but rather with my own attachment to finishing that task right now. When I remember to take a deep breath and know that the stove can be turned down for a moment, or that the laptop will still be there, but that my son’s needs are truly immediate, I feel a lot less tense.

The wisdom I need for greatness is already within me, and seeks me as its outlet. I affirm divine wisdom. I affirm divine intelligence. I affirm my own capacity for success. No more hazy thinking, no more foggy questioning, I know what needs to be done, and I know how to do it. The cobwebs of confused thinking are swept out of my consciousness. Life is plain, clear and direct. As I think I tap into the infinite Mind of God and allow God’s thoughts to be my thoughts. I am one with God and with all of God’s clear ideas. maybe June, the resolution is broken if not forgotten. Let’s not do that this year; instead, let us do something that will serve us for the entire year. Let’s not set resolutions for the year, but instead commit to making the right decision each and every day of 2014.
a deep breath and do the right thing.
July’s Theme, “Be Expectant”: Do not believe in tomorrow, believe tomorrow in! Affirm it! Expect a miracle and make way for the good things that are going to happen to you and yours. If you want a new car in the garage, then clean out the garage so a new car will fit into it. Say each day, “This is where I will park my new car.” Always speak in a positive voice.
Our life right now is a manifestation of the thoughts and beliefs we’ve held on to from our past. So if we want tomorrow to look and feel different, we have to change some of those thoughts and beliefs. We have to blow out the cobwebs of confused thinking that has clogged up our consciousness. This year, I’ve created themes for each and every month. I did so, so that each and every month I’d have a new idea to focus on. Every choice I make for any given month will provide me with the opportunity to discern how the theme for that month affects my decision-making. Here are my themes for 2014. I invite you to play along and I promise that if you do, by this time next year you will be pleased with the outcomes in your life.
August’s Theme, “Do Energy”: Energy is the fuel that is readily available to “tap into” to drive you energetically from where you are to where you want to be. Tap into the universal laws that are already there to support you. Need to believe that tomorrow has good in store for you? Then get up and watch the Sun rise. Feel the warmth on your face… you’ll be energized and ready to take on the day!
January’s Theme, “Be Willing”:
September’s Theme, “Have the Blessing”:
Practice saying yes to something you would more comfortably say “no” to. If your friends typically ask you to go out after work, but you always say “no,” say “yes,” at least once. Be willing to have a good time, and be willing to be proud of yourself for trying even if it turns out not to be a good time. Say yes to transformation by turning a “no” into a “yes,” as many times as you can.
Blessings surround you; gather up the abundance that is divinely yours. Don’t focus on what you don’t have; notice what you do have.
October’s Theme, “Have Gratitude and be Grateful”: Live in a consciousness of being grateful for everything--not matter what it might look like. “Grateful, Grateful, Grateful” is your mantra for the month.
February’s Theme, “Be Clear”: Be willing to see the end in the beginning. Thinking about a new relationship? Instead of thinking about how they should look, or what job they should have, focus on what you want to feel when in a relationship. If you long to have that special someone value you and put you first, yet they’re late to your very first date--then you are in trouble. They won’t change. You can see the end in the beginning if you look.
November’s Theme, “Have the Celebration”: Celebrate the harvest of your hard work. Share a portion of your bounty with others. Participate in random acts of kindness--anonymously.
December’s Theme, “Be Joy; Do Joy and Have Joy!”
March’s Theme, “Be Open”: Be open to hear the whispers of what Spirit is endeavoring to say to you. “Don’t go, or go.” Your higher voice, your higher self is always looking out for you. Listen.
Rejoice in the Joy of Being your authentic self, and for endeavoring to make the right decisions each and every day.
April’s Theme, “Be the Change”: Be the change
So, I will leave you with an affirmation for 2014. It’s called:
you want to see; let go of the side of the pool, be in the flow. If you see something that needs to be done, know that it’s been shown to you, because it’s yours to do.
“I Always Make The Right Decisions.” Copy it or type it up, and place it on your bathroom mirror, or place it in your prayer book. Put it in a place where you will be willing and committed to reading it aloud to yourself every day. If you do, I know that you will have a magnificent 2014! Happy New Year!
May’s Theme, “Do Truth”: Discern what your truth is, tell your truth immediately and accept nothing but the truth from those surrounding you. If you lie to protect someone else’s feelings, then you have denied a sacred part of yourself. Others handle truth far better than they handle deception, regardless of how well intended it was.
June’s Theme, “Do Commitment”:
Jack Elliott is a Life Coach, Author and Motivational Speaker. You may email him at jackrelliott@me.com or visit his website at www.jackrelliott.com.

Fenugreek:
The Greek Hay
Written By Allison Prater
T
rigonella Foenum-Graecum, or Fenugreek, is one of the oldest known medicinal herbs. It was highly regarded by Hippocrates and was widely used in ancient Egypt. As well as being used as medicine and food, it was originally grown as a fodder crop. Its Latin name “foenum graecum” literally translates to “Greek hay.” Its sweet smell was sometimes used to disguise the smell of moldy fodder. In ancient Egypt, it was used to ease childbirth and increase milk supply. Fenugreek has warming, pungent and bitter characteristics. Its seeds have anti-inflammatory actions, it also serves as a digestive tonic, a local demulcent, uterine stimulant, aphrodisiac, and it is said to lower blood sugar levels. Fenugreek was historically used as a laxative, expectorant and stomachic. In folk medicine, it was used to treat diabetes, anemia and rickets. Applied externally, a fenugreek poultice soothes boils, wounds and ulcers. An ancient Egyptian recipe for fenugreek ointment notes, “When the body is rubbed with it, the skin is left beautiful without any blemishes.” Fenugreek is a primary ingredient of the famous Lydia Pinkham’s health tonic. In Chinese medicine fenugreek, or hu la ba, is used to treat abdominal pains. Because the seeds are warming to the kidneys and reproductive organs, they are used to treat male impotence. They can be taken for menstrual pain and menopausal problems related to weakness of “qi” in the kidneys. Because it is a uterine stimulant, fenugreek should not be taken when pregnant. However, the aerial parts may be used to assist in labor. It is widely used as a galactagogue (milk producing agent) by nursing mothers to increase their milk supply. As usual, consult with a care provider you trust before using fenugreek for any medical indication. In the kitchen, fenugreek has several uses. The dried or fresh leaves may be used as an herb, and the seeds are either ground, or roasted as a spice. Fresh sprouts and micro-greens are also

used as a vegetable. Fenugreek seeds are widely found in cuisines of the Indian subcontinent. They are used in pickles, vegetable dishes, daals, and spice mixes such as panch photon and sambar powder. The fresh leaves can be found in some Indian curries, and the sprouted seeds and micro greens may be found in salads. In Persian cuisine, fenugreek leaves, known as shanbalile, are one of several greens used to make ghormeh sabzi and Eshkeneh, two of Iran’s national dishes. In Ethiopian cuisine, fenugreek is known as abash in Amharic and the seeds are used both to flavor dishes and as a remedy for diabetes. Fenugreek’s flavor combines well with celery and maple. The seeds enhance meats, poultry, vegetables, chutney and curry blends. Fenugreek sprouts are easy to grow at home and make a delicious and nutrient dense addition to salads. Soak seeds in filtered water overnight in a glass jar. In the morning, strain the water, rinse, and let the damp seed sprout in a glass jar. Leave the jar turned on its side with either a cheesecloth or strainer at the bottom end. It is important the seeds get plenty of good drainage so they don’t mold. Rinse them daily until sprouts reach desired size. It usually takes about two to three days. Fenugreek sprouts will keep in the refrigerator for about a week. References:

n exciting new year also brings all new challenges and problems. You may have made a new list of promises and goals for the new year, but you may never do them. This new year, I want to challenge you to actually right down all your New Year goals on a piece of paper. Create a list of things you have always wanted to do; it can be little things like getting an A on your next test at school, or maybe a bigger thing, like trying out for a sport at your high school. Whatever it is, write it down; write every little thing down and create a checklist. By the end of this next year, try your hardest to have each check-box marked with a check! It might be harder, depending on your goals, or it might be easy. But, either way, try your hardest to complete all your goals! Good luck! Here is a fun project to bring in the new year!
-Any kind of decorations (of your choice of course) -Your resolution/new year’s goal list Steps: Take your poster board and write down your resolutions or new year goals, using markers. Create check boxes after each goal. Decorate your poster as you wish, whatever might motivate you more to get those resolutions done! Pin the poster up somewhere you will see everyday, a common place.
New Year’s Resolution Poster Boards:
Make sure you work hard to get each goal done and check each box off! Good luck!
What you will need:
Have a great new year, and a great month of January!
-Poster board (or whatever you can find around the house that is close enough) -Markers (colors of your choice)

soy allergies. It is curious to see these ingredients too because these ingredients all come from foods that people are generally instructed to avoid during a cleansing program. No mention if the ingredients are organic or non-GMO. There are many chemical binders and preservatives that are hard to pronounce in each of these products. Finally, the most troubling con can be found on the bottom of the package, and it reads: “California Residents Proposition 65 WARNING: (State of California Prop 65) This product contains a chemical known to the State of California to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm.”
Product: Nature’s Secret 5-day fast and cleanse Duration: 5 days Average price: $50 What’s in it: Five different products to be taken in succession, and a CD with instructions.
Can you eat while using this product? Unclear. There are no diet guidelines specified on the label. Maybe that’s what the CD is for…?
Part 1: Colon Clear™ Promotes healthy daily bowel movements to help eliminate waste.
Product: Garden of LIfe, Raw Cleanse
Part 2: Fiber Cleanse™
Duration: 7 Days
Enhances digestion & elimination. Rich in fiber to help promote cleansing
Average Price: $30-$50
Part 3: Liver Cleanse™
What’s in it: 3 products:
Well-balanced nutrients to promote liver health*
Step 1 - RAW Cleanse Toxin Defense - Optimal Oral Health and Immune System Support†
Part 4: Craveless™
Toxin Defense is the first step in the RAW Cleanse experience, supporting optimal oral health and overall immune system function. Toxin Defense contains a unique combination of oral and intestinal probiotics that work in the mouth to help inhibit harmful toxins from traveling further in the body. This “pointof-entry” defense contributes to overall immune function and promotes microbial balance in the gastrointestinal tract for proper digestion and elimination. The clinically studied intestinal probiotic contained in Toxin Defense helps to support healthy bowel function, elimination and a healthy gut-associated immune system.
Powerful herbal blend to promote healthy digestion* Part 5: Super Nutrition™ Broad spectrum of phytonutrients provide a nutritional boost* Pros: This product contains many plant-based ingredients and many herbs that have a history in Ayurvedic Medicine. It also has some strong laxatives, so a person who is dealing with a lot of constipation and bloating may experience some temporary relief. Cons: It contains strong laxatives, such as cascara sagrada, which could be dangerous if abused or if contraindicated health issues are present. It also contains wheat, soy and shellfish, so it is not suitable for vegetarians or those with gluten sensitivities or

Step 2 - RAW Cleanse Organ Detox - Natural Detoxification of Organs and GI Tract†
30
Life’s a journey. Make it a healthy one.®
January 2014
Organ Detox is the second step in the RAW Cleanse experience, supporting normal removal of environmental toxins and pollutants from the body, as well as internally generated waste by-products. Organ Detox is formulated with RAW milk thistle, RAW Food-Created glutathione, cysteine, glycine, glutamic acid, melon juice concentrate, a rich source of Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) and catalase, plus vitamin U. This antioxidant, enzyme and amino acid rich formula supports healthy liver biotransformation and excretion of environmental toxins (and their metabolites) normally introduced into the body in small amounts.
What’s in it? Six products. Vitamineral Green (a green powder) Vitamineral Earth (grounding super foods) Zero Force (Alkalizing and helps rid the body of heavy metals and other toxins) This product can also be used topically Intestinal Movement Formula: Gentle formula designed to support regular bowel movements Intestinal Drawing Formula: to draw toxins out of the bowel Liver rescue: To support the Liver regeneration, function, detoxification and bile flow
Step 3 – RAW Cleanse Digestion & Elimination - Toxin Capture and Removal†
Scram: To control die off from parasites and harmful microbes.
Digestion & Elimination is the third and final step in the RAW Cleanse experience, helping to catch and hold undesirable compounds in the digestive tract and facilitate final transport from the body. Digestion & Elimination contains 800mg of RAW Food-Chelated magnesium to draw water into the colon for effective movement of intestinal bulk. RAW organic flax and chia seed act as bulking fibers to absorb toxins and pollutants while RAW organic coconut fiber lubricates and facilitates intestinal flow and creates a positive microbial balance in the body. RAW Cleanse is a gentle, seven-day cleanse that works first to support the health of the entire digestive tract, and then aids the liver in removing toxins. Finally, RAW Cleanse aids the digestive system in trapping the toxins transporting them out of the body.
Pros: Their ingredient list is vegan, gluten and soy free. Ingredients are food and herb-based, no hard-to-pronounce chemicals. Their products are “Truganic” and their website describes their products as, “Whereas Organic “certifies” its weaker standard with paperwork only but does NO ACTUAL testing, TruGanic™ verifies its stricter, hard-core standard with actual testing. TruGanic™ products must pass actual tests to verify that they are: 100 percent pesticide, insecticide and herbicide free. Defined as ZERO detectable. It is 100 percent GMO free. Defined as ZERO GMO detectable. 100 percent irradiation free. Defined as ZERO detectable. “ Cons: This product is pretty expensive. It contains some very strong herbs that would be best used while consulting with your caregiver. Though they describe their program as simple and easy-to-follow, I found myself feeling a little overwhelmed by the number of pills and powders you have to take every day.
Finally, there is a cleanse formulation that meets the RAW standard of excellence, and that’s Garden of Life RAW Cleanse. Pros: Suitable for Vegans and Gluten free folk. It has gentle fiber and laxatives that will assist in healthy digestion without dehydrating. Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) and catalase are being praised by both doctors and alternative care providers as an essential antioxidant.
Can you eat while using this product? Yes but they recommend a vegan diet with lots of raw foods and juices. All in all, it is wisest to undertake a cleansing program with the assistance of a caregiver with a good understanding on how to safely detox. Detoxing can be a very intense experience, and if not undertaken correctly, it can be dangerous to one’s health.
Cons: This product is not specified as organic. The addition of glutamic acid is a little strange, because that is another word for MSG. Glutamic acid is created when a protein is either partially or fully broken apart into its constitutes amino acids. It is present in many foods and is considered a non-essential amino acid, meaning that it does not need to be supplemented. I am confused by the addition of this ingredient.

Can you eat while using this product? Yes, but they recommend the elimination of sugar, caffeine, alcohol and processed foods from the diet, and the addition of lots of fresh fruits and veggies, as well as plenty of water.

Average Cost: $60-$250, depending on length and intensity of cleanse. They also suggest that some people may want to purchase additional products to compliment this program.

Adrenal Fatigue Part I Written By Kristen Perschon
D
efining & Identifying Adrenal Fatigue Cortisol (stress hormone): This hormone helps how your body uses fats, proteins, and carbohydrates. During times of stress, this hormone increases appetite and energy levels, while suppressing your immune systems inflammatory responses. Cortisol helps protect the body against the stressful effects of infection, trauma, extreme temperatures, and is needed to maintain stable emotions. However, if cortisol levels are peaked for too long, it can have considerable amounts of undesirable effects. These include loss of bone density, muscle wasting as your body can’t build enough protein, kidney damage, water retention, glucose intolerance, weight gain (especially in the abdomen), and a weakened immune system.
Your Adrenal Glands are part of the Endocrine System and sit just above your kidneys. They produce several hormones, the most important--as related to adrenal fatigue--being Epinephrine (adrenaline), Cortisol (commonly known as the stress hormone), and DHEA. The adrenal glands work directly with the hypothalamus and pituitary gland in the brain. It is critical to understand this connection. The pituitary gland is the essential link between the nervous system and the endocrine system. The pituitary gland releases hormones that affect growth, sexual development, metabolism, and the hormones necessary for reproduction. The newly recognized master gland in the body is the hypothalamus, as it is the direct link between the pituitary gland and your brain. It sorts through messages sent from the pituitary gland, from activity occurring in your body, to the brain. The hypothalamus will respond to these back and forth messages between your body and brain through nerve impulses and hormones. These hormones activate the pituitary gland, which then makes hormones to respond to the needs of the body. These pituitary hormones are received by the adrenal glands, which in turn create hormones to meet growth and development requirements, and to stimulate your fight or flight response. It is important to note that most thyroid dysfunction is a result of poorly functioning adrenal glands. When the adrenal glands become fatigued, it puts your body in a state of catabolism, meaning your body is starting to break down. Your thyroid controls metabolism. When you are in a state of catabolism, your metabolism slows down in an attempt to slow down the catabolism process. You can’t treat diseases of the thyroid without treating the adrenal glands and identifying causes of adrenal fatigue. Adrenal fatigue also inhibits the needs of your body to be properly relayed to the pituitary gland and hypothalamus, thus disrupting the prompting to the thyroid to release balanced amounts of hormones.
DHEA: This steroid hormone is converted by the body into male and female hormones, including estrogen and testosterone. It helps to balance the effects cortisol has on suppressing the immune system. It is efficient at helping your body recover from all types of stress. It is directly tied to libido in women. DHEA affects energy and endurance, and helps your brain regulate mood. DHEA also contains a metabolite called 7-Keto that is responsible for increasing thermogenesis- the ability to burn fat. Adrenal fatigue occurs when you are continually exposed to acute or chronic stress and your adrenal glands can no longer meet the demands of stress. Other factors that contribute to adrenal fatigue are environmental toxins, too much caffeine, a diet high in carbohydrates and refined sugars, processed foods and artificial sugars, not getting enough sleep, and low amounts of saturated fats and cholesterol in your body. Your adrenal glands only have so many stores of hormones, and the more you rely on them, the more overwhelmed and low functioning they become. Symptoms of adrenal fatigue include: Difficulty getting up in the morning, never feeling rested, and eventually extreme fatigue; Anxiety, nervousness, irritability, and mild depression; Low blood pressure and feelings of light headedness upon standing; Salt cravings, and the need for caffeine and sugar for energy throughout the day; Weight gain, especially in the abdominal area; Brittle, dry hair and hair loss, as well as dry skin; Frequent infections and illness; Intolerance to cold temperatures; Lost mental focus, feel foggy, have recall and memory issues, absentmindedness, headaches, and experience a decrease in productivity. Women may also begin to experience the symptoms associated with menopause including hot flashes, night sweats, decrease in libido, worsening PMS, mood swings, and irregular periods.
It is also important to understand the function of each adrenal hormone: Epinephrine (adrenaline): This hormone is released as part of the fight or flight response, and helps the body respond to stressful situations. It increases heart rate, the force of heart contractions, increases blood flow to your muscles and brain, and helps you convert stored glycogen into glucose for much needed energy. Adrenaline is not only released in life threatening situations or during extreme physical activity; it is also released to combat every day stress.

Rev. Andrew Cekun, Spiritual Astrologer & Teacher
M
r. Andrew Cekun is an experienced Astrologer and Spiritual Teacher. Andrew graduated with a B.A. Degree (Psychology major, with a minor in Religion & Philosophy). Rev. Cekun worked for 25 years in Florida as a Counselor and Social Worker.
Clients receiving astrology readings or personal consultations from Andrew have reported discovering previously unknown purpose, life direction, potentials and possibilities. Others report a confirmation of their own intuition; because intuitive perceptions are inner/subjective, they often require objective verification before one has the certainty (or courage) to act, or initiate major life changes.
Andrew’s spirituality and astrological specialties are grounded in the Ageless (Ancient) Wisdom Teachings, which promote the path of accelerated spiritual evolution. These teachings represent the profound spiritual knowledge, which was once only taught in ancient mystery schools. Rev. Cekun embraces a truly universal spirituality.
Astrology gives powerful psychological and spiritual insights into others. Couples discover new ways to improve their relationships, parents in giving guidance and direction to children. A mother experienced “goose bumps” in reading her 5-year-old daughter’s KARMIC INSIGHT REPORT, saying that she already has observed many of the details highlighted in her child’s profile.
Andrew specializes in Spiritual Astrology, which assists one in identifying their soul/life purpose. Knowing one’s true purpose for living as a soul on this Earth helps in making progressive decisions and life choices, greatly promoting personal and spiritual growth, and achieving higher or expanded consciousness. When one is experiencing a personal or spiritual crisis, or making an important life decision, one has only to reflect upon their soul/life purpose for greater clarity, guidance and direction.
