2023 ACTIVITIES & REGISTRATION DATES

SPECIAL EVENTS

Daddy-Daughter Dance – February 18. This evening event (6:00-8:30 pm) includes a DJ & dancing, appetizers, a craft, and a selfie station. Open to girls ages 3-12 and their fathers or other male adult relative or family friend ages 18+.

Mom & Son Bowling – March 25. This Saturday event will have two sessions from12:303:00 pm or 3:30-6:00 pm. Includes 2 games of bowling, shoe rental, pizza, salad, & soda. Open to boys ages 3-12 and their mothers or other female adult relative or family friend ages 18+.

Movie in the Park – A free family friendly event that will be held in May (TBD) at Gordon Moore Park.

Fireworks at Liberty Bank Amphitheater and Riverfront Park.- Annual event on July 3rd.

Food Truck Festival – Held in August at the Liberty Bank Amphitheater and Riverfront Park. This event features culinary creations served up from 20+ food trucks from around the region. Bring your appetite because you’ll have a hard time choosing just one!

Family Campout at Gordon Moore Park –Scheduled for the Saturday/Sunday of Columbus Day Weekend in October, this program offers participants a unique opportunity to pitch their own tents and spend the night in Alton’s premiere park. The fee includes a movie, games, a campfire, s’mores, and breakfast.

Gingerbread Contest – This is a free Gingerbread Contest for kids and adults. All Gingerbread creations will be displayed at City Hall for the month of December for the public to view. Gingerbread creations are will be dropped off at City Hall in early December. Awards will be given out by the Mayor at a City Council Meeting held in December.

Santa at the Playhouse – Bring your family to the Lucy Haskell Playhouse on the first Saturday in December from 12-2 pm to meet Santa and have your picture taken. Polaroid prints are $2 each, or you may take pictures with your own camera or phone.

Christmas Workshop for Kids and Christmas Workshop for Kids & Parents – Held in December. The Kids-only (ages 5+) sessions are on Saturday, and the Kids & Parents (ages 3+) session is on Sunday afternoon. All sessions include crafts, games, play time in our “gingerbread” playhouses, hot cocoa and cookie decorating. (Lunch is also included with the Kids-only all-day registration.)

YOUTH SPRING & FALL SOCCER

Open to Boys and Girls, 6U-15U

Learn the game of soccer through practice and team competition. Teams will play 8-games in Spring and10-games in the Fall at Gordon Moore Park.

MICRO-SOCCER

Boys and Girls ages 3 - 5

A learn-to-play soccer program emphasizing basic skill development, group interaction and fun. We have Spring and Fall sessions. Spring session will meet on Sunday afternoons for 4 weeks in April/May and Fall Session will meet on Sunday afternoons for 4 weeks in September/October. Players must wear shin guards and tennis shoes (no cleats) and bring a #3 soccer ball.

FEE: $25

RIVERBEND BASEBALL/SOFTBALL LEAGUE

League schedules usually begin on the 2nd Saturday in May with 10 games and a postseason tournament in July. Home games will be played at Gordon Moore Park with additional games held at Glazebrook Park and the Jerseyville Sports Complex. All T-Ball and Pitching Machine games are at Gordon Moore Park, only. Early bird (11/14/22-2/24/23) Regular (2/25/23-3/31/23)

SUMMER DAY CAMP

BOYS AND GIRLS COMPLETING GRADES K-5

There will be 8 weeks of Summer fun in June and July. Sessions will be from 9:00 a.m.12:00 p.m., Monday – Friday, at Gordon Moore Park to enjoy games, sports, arts and crafts, and other special activities. Weekly field trips to the Alton Splash Pad, bowling, etc., will be scheduled throughout camp.

FEE: $35.00/per session

YOUTH RECREATIONAL BASKETBALL LEAGUE

Boys and Girls in 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th grades

Learn the fundamentals of basketball through practice and team competition. The league will play on evenings during the week. Practices will start in early January. Games will be played in late January through mid-March.

FEES: $45.00-$50.00

Group lessons. Learn the game through fun, instruction, drills, and games. There are five 1-week sessions, 4 days per week (Monday-Thursday), 1 hour per day.

SENIOR SCRAMBLE (ages 50+)

Held every Wednesday (April through October) at Rock Spring Golf Course. Individuals sign up and are placed on 4-man teams. Accumulate points towards “Senior Golfer of the Year” competition. $5.00 for skins. Check the hotline 325-0035 for updates.

DISC GOLF

The18-hole disc golf course has been redesigned in the formerly unusable terrain at Rock Spring Park. The first tee is adjacent to the large parking lot in the upper half of the park.

Private Rentals: You can reserve the Splash Pad for a private rental from 6-8pm, up to 100 people.

Birthday Party Rental: You can reserve our designated birthday party area, up to 20 people (during normal operating hours). The rental fee includes small hot dogs, chips, and drinks for up to 20 people. Renters will get a reserved area, including 4 picnic tables.

FISHING CLASSES

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources holds fishing classes at Gordon Moore Park Lake. These classes teach hook baiting, casting, pole rigging, and differences in fishing for different types of fish. To register contact IDNR directly. Dates: TBD

ALTON DOG PARK

East end of Russell Commons Park, east of Alton Riverfront Park, & south of River Heritage Parkway-Illinois Route 143-Berm Highway

The fee is $25 annually for up to three dogs for Alton residents; $35 for non-residents Day pass is $5.

Owners must bring proof of up-to-date vaccinations and proof of spay or neuter for all dogs.

Dogs that are not spayed or neutered are not allowed in the dog park.

Passes can be purchased at City Hall, the Alton Marina, or the Parks and Recreation office.

BETHALTO PARKS

Central Park - located behind Village Hall, this park is home to the annual Bethalto Homecoming, Bethalto Christmas Village and several other events. The park includes lighted tennis courts, lighted basketball court, open space, picnic facilities and a bandstand . The park is home to Bethalto Splash Pad.

Bethalto Arboretum - adjacent to Central Park, contains more than 150 different species of trees and plant life on 2.5 acres. Contains a fitness path, war memor ial and perennial garden.

Bryant Park - located along Culp Lane and Stadium Drive features fishing l ake, one-mile walk or bike path, picnic areas, playground, multiple pavilions and res trooms.

Sportsman’s Park - located along Culp Lane west of Culp Park. Home to the civic Memorial Eagles baseball and softball teams this park includes (2) regulation s ize baseball diamonds, (2) softball diamonds, a youth baseball diamond, (2) regulation soccer field s, multiple seating areas, press box and concession stand.

Rotary Park - located at the corner of Grant St and West Corbin. This park was built by the Bethalto Rotary Club to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Rotary International and contains the Rotary Gear Logo with a span of more than 80 feet believed to be the l argest in existence.

Water Tower Park - located at intersection of Second and Grant Street is a smal l neighborhood park

West End Park is at the intersection of Plegge and Old Bethalto Road

South Side Park (Field of Dreams) - is located near the southeast edge of the village. This park contains (4) lighted ball diamonds

Activity Center 10 Gateway Dr. home to events thru-out the year

Collins House 703 West Main Street the focal point of the park is the D.D. Collins House which is a Greek revival home built in 1845, the house is open for to urs Saturdays 11 am to 3 pm.

Collinsville Aqua Park 10 Gateway Dr. home to 7 water slides, monsoon mountain, lazy river, leisure pool, lap pool, and aqua climb wall insert pic and pri cing.

Morris Hills Park Woodland Dr. this 1.4 acre park is tucked away in a beautiful secluded area and includes basketball court, playground equipment and a picni c area.

Schnuck’s Memorial Park 419 Camelot Dr. features a playground, gazebo and pond for fishing

Willoughby Farm 631 Willoughby Lane public park with the atmosphere of 1040’s farm complete with tractors, barns, 1930’s Craftsman Farm House, live animals. This 30 acre wildlife preserve incudes hiking trails, bridges and vistas overlooking the prairie

Brent Leh Dog Park - Corner of Olive Street and West Schwarz

Off-leash dog park near downtown, has synthetic turf and some agility equipment

City Park - 101 South Buchanan on 2.088 acres, site of Edwardsville Public Library and Cleanon Etzkorn Bandstand. Location of many festiv als including Route 66 Festival in June and Edwardsville Symphony and Friday night Concerts

Drda Woods - 5404 New Poag Road is a 71 acre park that is currently being reforested with the help of volunteers and the HeartLand Conser vancy. Future restoration will include a parking lot and walking path.

Hotz Park - 300 Randle Street is the smallest park in Edwardsville and one of the smallest parks in the country. Located at the intersection of St. Louis and Randle Street, it holds a huge stone bearing a bronze plaque, c ommemorating the City's five resident Governors.

Joe Glik Park - 710 East Lake Drive 42+ acres, is the City’s largest passive park.

Leclaire Baseball Field - 701 Hale Ave. is 3.3 acres home to Signature Little League baseball facilities

Leclaire Park - 900Hale Ave. is set on 5.8 acres located within the historic Leclaire neighborhood. This beautiful park includes three playground areas, historic bandstand gazebo, large picnic pavilion along with two small picnic shelters (rentable), bbq grills, handicap accessible restrooms, two acre fishing lake with lighted fountain and waterfall. Leon Corlew Park - 333 South Main Street is on 2 acres home to Accessible Splash Pad, Playground, Three Pavilions (rentable), fitness trail, restrooms, concession area and bbq grills.

Richards’ Woods – Corner of Route 143 and Schwarz Drive Recently added 35 acres of natural timbered woods currently being restored and plans include walking paths to enjoy the forested ridges and Mooney Creek run ning through it.

Springer Woods Park - Frederick Street & Springer Woods Lane is on 10.4 acres and is a wooded nature area that winds through a quiet ne ighborhood in the central, north end of the city. Includes Children’s Playground, Exercise Trail, two picnic table shelters with BBQ grills.

Terry Park - Terry Ave. is set on 3.9 acres and is largely a natural wildlife area

Tower Park - 89 Bennington Place is a one-acre neighborhood park which includes Basketball Court, Picnic Pavilion and Barbecue Grill

Lusk Park - 535 Randle Street sits on 2.8 acres, is the site of the City's oldest cemetery, and considered to be a passive park.

Plummer Family Park - 3501 Sports Park Drive is built on 83 acres and there is room for expansion for more baseball/softball multipurpose fiel ds

Spindler Park 1221 Spindler Park Rd sits on 12 acres and includes (2) preschool tee-ball fields, a .5 mile accessible walking trail, playground, (3) lighted tennis courts and a pavilion

Tot-Lot 1214 13th Street features a toddler playground and water fountain

THE ROUND HOUSE

Round House Recreation Center - The Round House is located at 633 N. Wood River Ave. It accommodates approximately 200 people in the main area. The Round House is handicap accessible. A limited number of chairs and tables are available for use in the building. It has a kitchen equipped with a stove, microwave, refrigerator and plenty of counter space. Some utensils are available. The Round House is perfect for dinners, showers, recitals, etc. No smoking is permitted within the building and no alcohol is permitted on the premises.

GENERAL PARK INFORMATION

Bandstand - The Ervin Mouish Bandstand is located at Central Park. The bandstand is used for special events and outdoor concerts.

Baseball & Softball Diamonds - Emerick Sports Complex, at Sixth Street, has three lighted softball diamonds; Lions, Jaycee and Rotary Fields and one baseball diamond, Dwiggins Field. West End Park (Walcott Street) have one lighted diamond.

Basketball Courts - Half courts are available at East End Park and Brushy Grove Park. All these courts are open to the public.

Belk Park Clubhouse Multipurpose Hall - Our clubhouse has a multipurpose hall that will seat 168 comfortably, with an outstanding view of the golf course. It has tables and chairs available along with a big screen television and electric fireplace. This room is great for receptions or banquets. It can be rented by contacting Belk Park Golf Course.

Fishing - Belk Park Lake and Emerick Sports Complex have fishing available to the public. The park hours are from dawn to dusk. A fishing license is required for anyone 16 & older. Anyone under 16 can fish without a license when accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Picnic Areas - Wood River has several picnic areas which are available in the many parks in town. Central Park has picnic tables under a Gazebo-type shelter where there are barbecue pits and electrical outlets available. There are picnic areas and shelters available at East End, West End, Belk & Soccer Parks. To reserve these shelters please call the Round House at 251-3130.

PARKS

Wood River provides eight major parks with over 300 acres of facilities. The parks include:

Belk Park - 234-acres is our largest park located on Rock Hill Road at the eastern edge of the city. In addition to the 18-Hole Championship Golf Course, the present facilities include a lake with fishing, picnic areas, an open field, children’s playground equipment, shelters (which can be rented by visiting the Round House), woodland, open space and a walking path. Belk Park has a clubhouse for rent with a nice-sized multipurpose room and seating for 168.

Brushey Grove Park - This one-acre park is located at the corner of Linton and Miland, next to the old fire station. This park includes a playground facility and basketball court.

Central Park (Round House) - A five-acre park located on Wood River Avenue, adjacent to the High School, offers many activities which include bandstand, playground, gazebo, barbecue pits, Veteran’s Memorial and large activity center commonly referred to as the “Round House”.

East End Park - 13 acres and adjacent to the City Garage on 14th Street, East End Park playground apparatus, basketball court, picnic tables, shelter house and a picnic shelter that measures 20´ x 30´.

Emerick Sports Complex - This 8-acre complex is located on the North End of Sixth Street at Park Lane. The highlight for the children is our new playground. This colorful addition has plenty to keep the young ones entertained for hours. This complex is the sight of our Men’s Softball league and our summer youth league games. This facility contains three lighted softball diamonds and one baseball diamond. There is a concession stand, and a lake for fishing.

West End Park - This 5.5-acre park can be found in the southwest part of town on Walcott St. It has a lighted ball diamond (George Wallace Field), shelter facilities, basketball hoop and playground equipment.

Wood River Soccer & Skate Park - 43 acres that contain two lighted regulation soccer fields, one unlighted practice soccer field, a walking path, playground apparatus, skateboard park, ample parking, a concession stand , stadium bleachers to view the playing fields, and a picnic shelter.

Easter Egg Hunt: A FREE Easter Egg Hunt is offered to the children of Wood River residents ages toddler thru 4th grade. There will be over 120 dozen eggs hidden, along with some special prizes to be awarded to those finding special eggs. Each child will also receive a bag of ca ndy from the Easter Bunny. Prizes are donated by Wood River Area Merchants. Be sure to bring your camera!

Youth League Parade: Come on out and enjoy the opening day for the youth league. The annual Youth League Parade will be held at the beginning of the season. This parade consists of all youth league baseball/softball participants, Tri-City and Wood River Instructional League. Call 251-3130 for more information.

Bike Ramble: Bring your kids for a safe and exciting family night bike ride. Wood River Parks & Recreation is co-sponsoring the 14th Annual Bike Ramble on June 9, 2023. The route begins and ends at the Round House. The lineup is at 7:00 pm and the ride will start at 7:30pm. Once participants complete the bike ride refreshments will be offered at the Round House. Ice Cream Social

Beat the heat this summer by partaking in our Ice Cream Social on Sunday, July 9, 2023 from 3:00 to 5:00pm. Wood River Parks & Recreation is co-sponsoring with the Women’s Club for the Ice Cream Social at Central Park. Call 251-3130 for more information.

Breakfast With Santa : Join us at the Round House for 39th annual Breakfast with Santa and get into the Christmas spirit. Each br eakfast includes pancakes, sausages, milk, juice and coffee. Adult and child plates are available for purchase. The children have the chance to have their picture taken with Santa for free. No reservations are re quired. Date: Saturday, December 9, 2023. The Recreation Department has many different types of softball leagues available. All leagues will play 14 games. In all leagues you must be at least 18 years of age.

2023 Summer League registration will be taken during the month of the March. All leagues begin play during the first week in May.

East Alton, Roxana and Wood River have joined together once again to form a Soccer League. Children ages 5-13 are invited to participate. The registration fee is $45.00 and includes a t-shirt. Games begin in September on Saturday mornings and some weeknights. Registration ends July 31.

TRI-CITY LIL’ KICKERS SOCCER

The Wood River, East Alton & Roxana Recreation Departments offer an Instructional Soccer program. We partner with Elite FT Fitness Training for this program. Children ages 3-5 are invited to participate. This program takes place over four Saturday mornings. There will be 45 minutes of drills. The registration fee is $40.00 and includes a t-shirt. Watch for registration in February & August. There is a Spring Session that starts in April and a Fall Session that starts in September.

TRI-CITY YOUTH VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE

The Wood River, East Alton and Roxana Recreation Departments offer the TriCity Youth Volleyball Program for 3rd-6th grade boys and girls. We are offering a Spring & Fall league. The fee is $45.00 per participant. Each participant receives a t-shirt.

TRI-CITY INSTRUCTIONAL BASKETBALL CLINIC

This basketball program has been set up for Kindergarten & 1st grade children. It is designed to teach the fundamentals and skills of basketba ll along with special drills to help with coordination. Each participant rece ives a completion certificate. The registration fee is $30.00. Registration begins in September. Clinic will start in November. For more information, call 251-3130.

TRI-CITY YOUTH BASKETBALL LEAGUE

The Wood River, East Alton and Roxana Recreation Departments offer the TriCity Youth Basketball Program for 2nd-6th grade boys and girls. Registration runs from

October & November and the fee is $45.00 per participant. Games begin in early January. Each participant receives a t-shirt.

TRI-CITY YOUTH BASEBALL & SOFTBALL

Registration runs for the entire month of March. Teams are formed in late April and league play begins in May. The following divisions are offered for a fee of $45.00 ($5.00 late fee after registration date).

Boys : Age 8 – 9 Rookie League – Pitching Machine

Age 10 – 11 Minor League – Player Pitch

Age 12 – 13 Major League – Player Pitch

Age 14 – 16 Juvenile – Player Pitch

Girls: Age 8 – 9 Ponytail League – Pitching Machine

Age 10 – 12 Petite League – Pitching Machine

Age 13 – 16 Chic League – Player Modified Pitch

All of the above will play in the Tri-City League which is made up of teams from Wood River, Roxana and East Alton; with the exception that we will partner with the City of Edwardsville in the Petite & Chic Softball Leagues. All games are played in the evening with some Saturday morning games.

TRI-CITY T-BALL LEAGUE

An instructional T-Ball league for 4 & 5 year olds that will focus on teaching the basic skills and fundamentals of baseball/softball. Games will be played in the evenings beginning the first week of June. Fee: $45. Registrati on runs for the entire month of March. ($5 late fee after March 31st)

TRI-CITY COACH PITCH LEAGUE

A Coach Pitch League for 6 & 7-year old who are ready to move up from the T-Ball League. Games will be played in the evenings beginning the first week of June. Fee: $45. Registration runs for the entire month of Ma rch. ($5 late fee after March 31st)

CLUBS

Senior Adult Program 55+

Adults aged 55 and over are invited to join in activities for a n annual fee of $20.00. Meetings are held at 11 a.m. on the second Thursday of every month. After a brief meeting a full meal is served catered by Chef Bob . The cost per meal is $7.00. The price Chef Bob charges is somewhat more depending on the price of food. A generous gift of $2,500.00 from the mayor and city council allows us to charge the $7.00 amount. After paying the annual fee of $20.00 each member is entitled to 4 meals without paying. Lunch is pro vided for the following occasions:

After the meal is served bingo is played with each winner award ed $2.00. The cost of the bingo is funded by a 50-50 drawing. The meal and the bingo usually end about 1:30 pm.
