SITE INVENTORY & ANALYSIS Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History became the new home of the Museum of Natural History in 2000. The museum was established in 1899 as the state's museum of natural history by an act of the Territorial Legislature. The 198000-square-foot facility is the one of the finest university-based natural history museums in the world. The museum is home to 6 million artifacts including the largest Apatosaurus in the world and priceless Native American artifacts including the oldest painted object ever found in North America. The building is named for Samuel R. Noble in honor of his service to the University as a benefactor and regent. A major gift from the Noble Foundation of Ardmore helped to build the museum. The museum features five exhibit halls: the Siegfried Family Hall of Ancient Life where visitors walk through Oklahoma's pre-historic past; the McCasland Foundation Hall of the People of Oklahoma featuring 28000 years of human life in Oklahoma; the Noble Drilling Corporation Hall of Natural Wonders which takes visitors on a walk through Oklahoma's ecological regions; the Merkel Family Foundation Gallery of World Cultures containing objects from around the world; and the Fred and Enid Brown Native American Art and Special Exhibitions Gallery which houses traveling exhibits.

NATURE’S WAVES - MASTER PLAN -
HEJUN WEN UNIVERSITY OF OKLAHOMA COLLEGE OF ARCHITECTURE DIVISION OF LANDSCAPE OF ARCHITECTURE PROJECT #4 2014. 4. 09
CONCEPT: CONSIDERING THE MUSEUM'S INTERIOR STRUCTURE, I WOULD LIKE TO DESIGN DIFFERENT OUTDOOR ROOMS, AND EACH ROOM WILL PROVIDE A DIFFERENT EXPERIENCE AND PEOPLE CAN HAVE DIFFERENT ACTIVITIES. SO WALKING OR BICKING THROUGH THE WHOLE PLACE, PEOPLE CAN SEE AND LEARN DIFFERENT THINGS. IN ONE WORDS, ALL ROOMS WILL SHOW CONVIVIAL ATMOSPHERE IN THE MUSEUM, AND LET WHETHER YOUNG PEOPLE, ELDERS OR CHILDREN LOVE THESE ROOMS. SOME IMPORTANT POINTS: 1. CONNECTING WITH THE MUSEUM; 2. CONSIDERING THE WIND DIRECTION AND SUN CHART; 3. PRODUCING MORE ACTIVITIES; 4. CREATING SPACES WITH DIFFERENT SIZES.
MASTER PLAN: AFTER I HAD DECIDED TO USE THIS CONCEPT, I STARTED THINKING ABOUT HOW TO EXPRESS DIFFERENT OUTDOOR ROOMS WHICH ARE INTERCONNECTED WITH EACH OTHER. BECAUSE THERE IS THE MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY, I WAS LOOKING FOR INSPIRATION IN NATURE. AND FINALLY, I DECIDED TO USE RIPPLES AS MY SHAPES ON THE MASTER PLAN.

NATURE’S WAVES - PERSPECTIVE VIEWS POSSIBLE EVENTS IN MID-GROUND:
THE CONCEPT IN MID-GROUND IS RELAXING ROOMS, IN THIS AREA, THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF OUTDOOR ROOMS, ONE IS THE PLAZA WITH ENTRANCE, AND ANOTHER ONE IS PRIVATE SPACE FOR FAMILIES. IN THIS AREA, PEOPLE CAN HAVE A LOT OF FUN, SUCH AS OUTDOOR DINNER, COOKOUT, FLY KITE, OUTDOOR THEATER, DANCE HALL OR CHESS, ETC. THE FIRST PERSPECTIVE VIEW IS SHOWING THE PLAZA. THE DESIGN IS SIMPLE BUT USEFUL. VEGETATION AND PAVILION CREATED THE SPACE, AND I USED DIFFERENT PAVEMENT TO MAKE THE SPACE MORE IN RIGHT SCALE, AND ALSO CHILDREN CAN PLAY WITH THE IRRIGATION IN SUMMER. THE BIG STRUCTURE IS DESIGNED BECAUSE OF THE SUN CHART AND ANNUAL AVERAGE TEMPERATURE.
SUNKEN PLAZA - MAIN ENTRANCE - IN FOREGROUND
POSSIBLE EVENTS IN FOREGROUND:
THE CONCEPT IN FOREGROUND IS EDUCATIONAL ROOMS, IN THIS AREA, THERE ARE ALSO TWO TYPES OF OUTDOOR ROOMS, ONE IS GATHERING PLACES WHICH ARE PLAZA CONNECTED WITH MUSEUM AND SUNKEN PLAZA WITH ENTRANCE, AND ANOTHER ONE IS BIG OPEN SPACE ON THE RIGHT SIDE. IN THIS AREA, PEOPLE CAN LEARN THINGS AND KNOW BETTER ABOUT EACH OTHER, SUCH AS ECO EDUCATION, NATURAL ART EXHIBITION, OUTDOOR TEACHING, ETC. AND CHILDREN CAN PLAY WITH NATURAL FEATURES SUCH AS WATER, STONE. THIS SECOND PERSPECTIVE VIEW IS SHOWING THE SUNKEN PLAZA. THE DESIGN IS USING VEGETATION TO MAKE A CLOSED ROOM. THE BIG STONE WITH PAINTINGS CAN HELP PEOPLE KNOW MORE ABOUT OUR WORLD AND THE MUSEUM, AND THE FOUNTAIN MAKES THE PLACE MORE ACTIVE.
GARDEN OF REFLECTION - LOOKING AROUND - IN BACKGROUND
POSSIBLE EVENTS IN BACKGROUND:
THE CONCEPT IN BACKGROUND IS GARDEN ROOMS, IN THIS AREA, THERE ARE SEVERAL TYPES OF OUTDOOR ROOMS, BECAUSE THE MAIN CONCEPT IS “MYSTERIOUS RIPPLES” AND THE FOREGROUND AND MID-GROUND IS TRYING TO CONNECT WITH THE FUNCTION OF THE MUSEUM, SO THE BACKGROUND IS FOCUSING THE EMOTIONAL FEELINGS. IN THIS AREA, PEOPLE CAN DO MORE PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH EACH OTHER, SUCH AS BIKING, CAMPING, RUNNING OR JOGGING, YOGA, GROUP ACTIVITIES, FRISBEE AND RESTING, ETC. THIS THIRD PERSPECTIVE VIEW IS SHOWING THE GARDEN OF REFLECTION. THE BEAUTIFUL REFLECTIVE WATER TABLE IS ARRANGED IN THE SMALL FOREST. BEFORE PEOPLE SEE IT, THEY WILL GO THROUGH A LONG CLOSED VEGETATION AREA WITH A LITTLE SUN LIGHT. WITH PEACE OF MIND, WHEN PEOPLE SEE THE SUN SHINES ON THE WATER TABLE AND THE REFLECTION OF BIG TREES, THEY WILL HAVE A NEW EMOTIONAL EXPERIENCE.
