ALIGNMENT ALIGNMENT ALIGNMENT ALIGNMENT
. Here I am showing what the type would potentially look like. Where the moving image goes into alignment, the lines would flash up and the type would be in the lines and flash between the lines and the type then transition into the next principle- would be effective and nice visually but may not help the smoothness of the transitions.
In contrast- the type would come up on the other side of the page- the opposing colour to the dots to fit in with the theme. - it would flash up
line extending into a spiral and at the end of the spiral, proportion would be written onto the path of the spiral- effecitve, then fade before the next principle appears. =
Explination- This development shows what I could potentially do for my moving image. It would be the same moving image I’d planned, but when the transitionings are happening, the title of whatever principle is showing will come up in a creative way to show the audience what theyre seeing- im not sure whether I will use this idea yet, but when it comes to my developments i will test it and if it works or doesnt will inform my decision on whether I will use the typography, if i dont the title will be the only typography within the moving image. I think this would be effective because the audience will know what theyre looking at, but at the same time, a moving image with just the shapes is effective and the transitiions would be smoother without typography. I’ll take this concept and develop it to see if it works, if not I will just use the origninal shapes without type.

This moving image shows how you can incorporate typography into a moving image based off of shapesthis will really help me with my developments because it helps me to understand how I can create more effective animations that are smoother and trasnsition easier- using typography within them, its also inspiring how I use the typography within my compositions.
HONOURS-DEVELOPMENTS Front page of editorial developments Here I have started my developments on my front page for my editorial. I have added a split within the composition that is filled with coral colour because that is the final colour palette I decided for my editorial that I would go with. I am going with black, white, grey scale and coral because black and white was my original colour palette and that was to show the simplisity and how much the shapes would stand out on colours that contrast so much, and I added the coral because from research I found that black and white wouldnt really work because theres not much more you can do other than white writing on a black background or vise versa, so I added grey scale and coral- coral in particular because its the colour of the year and realtes to colour theory because its the colour of the year. I also added the sub heading at the bottom of the page and a line on the right side to balance it out, the sub heading stating whats inside the the editorial and what it includes- 10 of the most used principles explained.
ELEMENTS a guide to the principles of design
This front cover is based off of dots and lines which stays with my theme overall, the lines all leading to the centre that is meant to represent the principles all leading to a common whole that is the design- this represents the principles enough to not be specific to one but effectively be the introduction to the editorial, although, it looks slightly un balanced so that decreases the effectiveness of it.

This idea is based off of hierarchy idea that I already had on the split of the composition, this does represent my use of dots but doesnt look effective enough for a front cover, it needs some sort of texture to it rather than be so flat to attract the audiences attention.
HONOURS-DEVELOPMENTS Front page of editorial developments This idea is based off of the contrast idea I have already came up with, the black stands out on the front of this but I feel as if theres something missing, like the hierarchy isnt right because everything is black and similar sizes so you dont know what to look at. I like this development and think its effective because it explains the principle uses dots while not being too obviously as to what it is, its just elements that make up one whole- which is what the principles are, elements that make up a design. I will need to develop this further too stop it being so lost within everything on the front of my editorial.

Here I have tried adding a back to the pattern and making it look like it has shadows that are the opposite colours of the backgroundsthis has helped the front cover slightly have more of a hierarchy, but there is still something missing I feel and I will need to figure it out before I can say I am happy with the front cover of my editorial. I think the black is the problem because it doesnt stand out as much because everything else within the composition is black.

ELEMENTS
On the back of the magazine, I came up with this idea based off of research I had completed on magazine front and back wraps, and the back always has an element of the front on it, so I decided to repeat the pattern, but put it in the corner with less opacity, which looks effective and makes the magazine look whole. I also included a very short description of what the magazine is about and who made it (me), this will help the audience want to read it because it explains what its about first like a book to get you interested.
I don’t think the spine of my magazine is thick enough to have writing on, but if it did this is what it would look like, I can also use this for mockup purposes- The title and the little heading next to it, simple.
This idea came about by accident, I accidently deleted the black on the top of the shadows I’d created and this came out, this completely shifts the hierarchy and makes the front cover look way better and more like you look at the title and sub title first then the front cover, which is exactly the type of hierarchy that I need to create. This idea perfectly represents what is inside the editorial without giving too much away, its a circle, made up of other little circles that represent the fact that the principles all come together to create this unified shape, which is the design. The split of colour offers the same palette as inside the editorial whilst also making it more interesting and look more 3D instead of a flat design. Overall, I am happy with this final design for my editorial because it uses the brand im trying to go for with the same colour palette and same ‘dots, lines and planes’ that I have been using throughout this project and also explains whats inside with a simple subheading and a title that follows my research on what a magazine title should look like- big, bold and at the top of a magazine.

On each of the pages the overall design will actually follow each rule that is being talked about within the editorial, this will be effective because not only will the article explain the principle but the design of the pages will too.
Here is another development i have produced, I have done this because I want more of a clear insight into what I am going to be producing when I start to create my final editorial pages, experimenting with what I can put on the pages that will have something to do with the principle that is being explained.

HONOURS- DEVELOPMENTS Colour and first principle- editorial developments
DESIGN CLASSICS PRESENTS:
CO N T R A ST
I’ve chosen this colour as its the Pantone colour of the year for 2019. My editorial is all about the design principles and how they’re important. This links to the pantone colour of the year because the priniciples are all based off of theory and psychology, and the colour of the year is based off of the prediction of what colour will be most popular based off of people’s changing opinions and emotions towards fashion etc. The brand for my editorial is black and white, simplicity to explain the basics of design, basic colour, but this Coral will be an accent colour in the editorial to make it brighter and appeal to my audience more as not just something that looks like a newspaper, but something with a bit of colour.
Here we have the first principle that I am featuring within my editorial. The principles are going in no particular order, but they will all have information about them using dots, lines and planes. This first prinicple is contrast- I want to include information such as what it is, when it can be used and in which different ways it can be used. In my concepts I have planned to do four pages for each principle, to total 40 pages about the 10 principles I have chosen.
T h e a r ra n g e m e n t o f o p p o s i te e l e m e n t s ( l i g h t v s . d a r k co l o u r s , l a rg e v s . s m a l l s h a p e s , etc . ) i n a p i e ce s o a s to c re a te v i s u a l i n te re s t , e xc i te m e n t a n d d ra m a .
The first page of each principle will be introduced with individual minimilistic graphic design as you can see above for each of the ten principles, using dots, lines and planes. This will introduce the audience into what I’m going to be talking about for the next 3 pages and also be in itself, an example of the principle- I thought this was effective because it shows the audience the principle in context of a poster, which I will be printing off large prints of.
HONOURS- DEVELOPMENTS Blurb I am creating my editorial and getting it printed off from the website ‘Blurb’. This website does magazines, books, E-books, etc. I have looked at all options AND got the opinion of Shirley and Kayleigh and they have said I should go with the Magazine. Through trial and error, I wanted to get a TRADE BOOK, but I printed my artwork out and the typography and unfortunatly, that would prove to be too small and my audience wouldn’t be able to view my work to its full potential, so a full sized
22×28 cm
magazine.
With blurb you have to make sure you follow their guidelines to get the best print, here I took a screenshot of what they wanted from me. I also downloaded their free plug in that allows you to open InDesign and there is a template set up so when its printed you know where the bleed line etc will be, so your artwork doesn’t get cut off. I set up my document, with my name and how many pages etc- my magazine will be 44 pages in total. A front and back page, a blank page, a contents page and 40 pages explaining each of the 10 principles. Before all of this, in the concept stage I had to figure out how many pages my magazine would be because to print it has to be divisible by 4. I have now opened up InDesign and the template it already put in place for my document, which really helped me.
HONOURS- DEVELOPMENTS Developing the first 4 pages
The red line is the bleed linewhere my colour can bleed to, but the magenta line is where my artwork can go to and cannot go any further because it will potentially get cut off when printing.
I went for 3 columns on each page because after my research on other editorials and inspiration I’ve found in my research from pinterest, actual books I’ve read and designers that have created editorials, I’ve found that magazines usually have 3 columns and that 3 would be the best to fit in my editorial and would allow me to spread my content out better. I also put the gutter at 4mm but it seems to be too small to be difinitive between my paragraphs so I may develop this when I have inputted the work to 5/6mm. Above you can see that I placed my first piece of work. This is the poster that I have made to show contrast in context of a poster using minimilistic illustration based off of dots, lines and planes explained in my research. This is to introduce the audience to the article about contrast, so they will know when the articles seperate into different principles because they will each start with the incontext poster of the principle that will be featured for the next three pages.
HONOURS- DEVELOPMENTS Developing the first 4 pages The idea around my magazine is that I am making an editorial to educate first year students on the principles and their importance within design. I am doing this based off of dots, lines and planes, which are the simpliest form of design. So my articles are based off of them shapes. I already had the body text for the contrast article, I just had to put it into the article format.
This was to show colour contrast- after critique I need to change this because the green completely doesn’t match the brand of the editorial because I am keeping it to grey scale and coral to match my branding of the colour of the year and the simpliest colours. The inspiration for my editorial lay outs has come from my research on editorials at the beginning of the project and some that I’ve done recently. I’ve looked at minimilistic editorials and modern ones that use shapes and it has helped me to layout my first 3 pages of my editorial. Here I used typography to show an example of contrast within the piece of design, using black and white and the word I created contrast through this. This will be a common thing within all the mini articles I create on the different principles, to make each article fit the purpose and go with the theme of whatever principle is being explained. I thought this was an effective way of showing this through typography. I used circles or ‘dots’ to explain contrast within compositions. Explaining how two dots together that are different sizes cause SCALE CONTRAST etc. This informs the viewer visually as simple as I could make it so the audience understands the idea and can take this and apply it to their work by simply replaceing the dots with their design work.
HONOURS- DEVELOPMENTS Developing the first 4 pages
After critique from a few of my peers, I decided to move the Gutter up to 5mm to give my body text extra breathing room because the columns were a bit too close and started to look like the same paragraphs. After moving everything around this proved to be muc more effective and helped my typography to be clearer and therefore will be easier for my audience to read.
Below is the finished double page spread article about contrast. I used all aspects of the layout I could to further invisage contrast as a principle within it using typography. I developed the contrast words by changing it from black and white to grey and coral, which is the colour theme of the editorial, which looked more effective. I also changed the colour of the dots that explain contrast theory to the colours that I’m using throughout the editorial. This deveopment really helped the double page spread to actually look like a double page spread, because with the other colours it looked too different and not connected. This development makes the article work together effectively and look like a whole instead of seperate parts.
All aligned
I chose to highlight ‘opposites’ because it is an important piece of information to do with contrast, as when creating contrast in a piece things must be opposites, not just slightly unsimilar, they must look completly different to contrast and that’s what draws the eye towards whatever you design with contrast.
I have tweaked some of the page since this screenshot has been taken, moving a few things down to align to everything and made the kerning of the writing larger so it can be read easier by the audience.
HONOURS- DEVELOPMENTS Developing the first 4 pages
One note I do have for myself for future developments is to try and increase visual stimulation and decrease the amount of body text, as it’s fine sometimes but not for every article because it would get boring for a student to be reading too much as I’ve found from my surveys on design students and their interest in a book like this as a first year, they said they would enjoy it if it was very visual and not pages and pages of writing- so for my next development I will be cutting down on the body text and trying to explain the principle more visually through typography and shapes like I’ve done on some parts of the pages of contrast.
Definition of contrast- to help students understand. An example of contrast using the colour palette and typography shows the students how it can be applied through everyday design work, like my editorial, and how it effectively draws the eye towards it. Screenshot of the first two of the four pages for contrast---First page features the contrast in context of a poster that I have created for each of the principles to show them being used in a graphic minimilistic way. The second page I chose to provide a definition of the word contrast in design and some visual typography on it using the palette colours of the editorial. When planning my editorial I chose these first two pages to be the in context poster and the opposite page to be a definition with maybe a bit of other information on it, just to ease the student into the principle, then the next two pages would be a double page spread explaining the principle as simply and visually as I could just so the student could go away with base knowledge but also show my skill in editorial and graphic design through a published magazine.
HONOURS- DEVELOPMENTS Developing my ideas This was the development I came up with for my proportion pages of my editorial. These pages aim was to explain proportion through visuals and typography on the 3 pages I had after the initial pattern.
This is what I actually ended up coming up with for the first page of proportion. Proportion is about rule of thirds, golden ratio, everything looking equal and pleasing to the eye and the brain, so I decided to take inspiration from rule of thirds and create a block ‘plane’ that went down to the one third of the page- then place the word proportion on it in bold to represent that the rule of third dot would go there and your focal point would go there so thats where the most bold typography goes.
On this page I am creating the simplistic shapes using dots, lines and planes to explain proportion like I said I would in my research, because this is what my project is about and explinaing the principles through this simple visual will help make my editorial more effective because it suits the audience so they wont get bored of the information that I am providing about the principles, they will take it in because its so visual.
HONOURS- DEVELOPMENTS Developing my ideas 2
With this design I was thinking about the fibonacci spiral and how it looked in my research, So I went into illustrator and created this piece using dots with the transform tool that displayed what proportion looks like, then placed it in the middle of the composition and it looked effective. I also decided to make all the pages a light grey colour instead of white because all the colours would stand out more and wouldn’t be as plain as white. This is how I figured out where to place the typography and the third bar on my composition- I split the page into three horizontally and vertically and where the lines matched up is where you draw the dot, then place your focal points on them dots because from my proportion research on rule of thirds, this lets the eye rest easier on the page and the composition is more visually effective overall because of this. I then decided to add another coral rectangle where the other third was too balance out the composition and create this first page for proportion that uses the principle within the actual design.
These two pages came about from inspiration from my research, In the background I’ve used the idea of rule of thirds on the left and the fibonacci spiral on the right, because these are the two main ways of creating proportion within design. The first page representing it by placing a dot and line to represent where a focal point should go, then the typography placed inside that was a bold statement of ‘harmonious composition’ because that was the next word within my column and it points out what proportion can create if you apply it. The columns are made up from my research into my own simplistic words that wouldnt feel too much like lots of text for the reader because its in PT size 13, which is slightly big for a magazine so theres less writing because my audience,m from my feedback, didnt want tons and tons of writing, so I tried to keep the visuals to a maximum.
HONOURS- DEVELOPMENTS Creating 4 pages for proportion I looked back on my research and found some editorial inspiration that I had gathered from it, it had bold writing like you can see and the column pieces surrounding it, which made a really effective looking page layout. I tried this out using my 3 column page layout by making sure all the typography fit within these columns and then added the text to explain the principle- this came out look effective also because of the background texture of the fibonacci spiral I had made previously using dots, which follows the brand im going for of dots, lines and planes. I balanced out the composition using lines and the amount of text I included on each column segment to create a visually effective piece of work that explained the principle and the importance of it while not being boring because its surrounded by graphics.
I made sure that the typography fit within the columns on the pages to effectively use the grid i have created with 3 columns and a 5mm gutter.
These are the pages I finally come up with for proportion, I added in the ‘planes’ (squares) that explained how the fibonacci spiral can be used within a composition and on the opposite page added some more planes and lines explaining how rule of thirds works within a composition also. I kept with the colour palette to make sure its consistant through and lined up everything to the grid I had created and the opposite pages to make it look more professional, for example the circle from the spiral on the opposite page is the same size as the dot on the rule of thirds page and the line leads to it. I then made sure that all the content lined up with eachother to practice what I am preaching with alignment as an important principle.
HONOURS- DEVELOPMENTS Mocking up pages to test professionalism
Because these pages were one of the first within my developments I wanted to create a mockup of the actual magazine on so I could test how professional the pages actually looked and whether the designs that I had created would communicate well in a magazine setting. From these mockups, critically, I think that they do communicate well and would be visually pleasing to an audience as an actual magazine. And I think the size of the magazine is also effective because it shows all of the actual designs clearly rather than a book that i was going to get, which after testing within my notebook, was too small as a design and wouldnt communicate well to an audience. Overall, mocking these pages up helped boost my confidence in how the pages looked overall and confirmed that they would communicate clearly to my audience.
HONOURS- DEVELOPMENTS Creating 4 pages for contrast **developments of contrast pages**
I have since went back to my contrast pages to update them because some of the aspects of them were not right. I made the 3 circles the same colours as the palette because they didnt look right as different colours and made the composition look split up. This development helped to pull my composition to look better and more effective and a whole.
I went back to this contrast page and fixed the contrast typography because it didnt look right and didnt fit in well with my overall composition, I made it so the colours of the contrast went opposite to represent contrast as a principle, and lined it up with two of the columns to make it look more professional and aligned. I fixed the kerning so that they fit within the two columns.
Going back to contrast to fix kerning and point size.

This idea looks really effective because of the use of dots, i’ve created the colour wheel main colours then the smaller dots represent the colours that go inbetween each colour, clearly representing the colour wheel, which also represents colour theory as it shows complementry and teritary colours through simple use of coloured dots which follow my brand.
Here are my development posters for my patterns that I will use as in context posters within my editorial to introduce what each segment is about, which principle and it also simply explains the principle through it. These colour theory developments are influenced by my research on the colour wheel, because that is the best way I could show colour theory as a principle through simplistic shapes and patterns within a mockup. As you can see, within these developments I decided on what my in context patterns will look like within the editorial. They have ‘design classics presents’ then the name of the principle, this is influenced by my research on the penguin classics front covers and posters that ste mentioned I should do as part of my feedback on my proposal presentation. This is effective because it introduces the principle in a formal way that is like a poster and its like its presenting the principle before the article about it. Then at the bottom it has the definition of that particular principle and a line to balance out the composition and make it look more like a poster/book mockup in situ. This is also effective because it enables the audience to see the definition of the pattern that theyre seeing that explains that specific principle. Overall, this composition is effective and really completes the patterns that I have created, but to be critical, I may develop this further and maybe take out the definition, because it will state it in the article and on my large prints I want them to be completely a pattern and leave the audience to guess what the definition is, then they can read the editorial and it will tell them.

This colour theory development was made by transforming a triangle to repeat into a spiral like shape to represent the colour wheel, and a gradient of all the colours attached. To be critical, I dont think this is one of the patterns I will be considering for the final colour theory pattern because of how hard the edges are and the fact that the appearance of this pattern isn’t really clear and take away the colour, looks more like something that would appear as the proportion pattern.
I have developed the previous pattern and experimented with just having it as dots that arent filled in, I like this better as a development because its less ‘in your face’ , and creates a soft pattern that is clear and communicates well through the means that I want it to (dots, lines and planes). It also still clearly represents the colour wheel overall.

This development was created because I was looking back at my research and thinking about the colour wheel, and how it real life the colours are all intertwined and theres endless shades and hues of all the different colours and theyre not so blocked out. So to represent this, I started to experiment with the transform tool again and came up with this made up from lines, these lines are the different colours of the colour wheel and still has the same opposite colours and follows colour theory. This is way more effective than the previous patterns because of how simplistic yet informative it is and the shape of the pattern is more interesting and still sticks with my dots, lines and planes theme.

The pattern on the left slowly turned into the one featured on the right as I experimented with how large the lines where and how triangular they were, and it made this shape, which also has a white space dot in the middle of it. I think this is the most effective colour theory pattern and I will be using it as my final one to feature within the magazine because of how visually pleasing it is, how it creates the spiral of the colour wheel whilst also having a dot in the middle, and is made up from lines and looks very complete as a design.
HONOURS- DEVELOPMENTS Patterns in situ posters developments
This is another development i have produced for colour theory, This was based off of the dots creating a spiral that represented the colour wheel. I don’t think this is as effective as the other designs I have because of how loose the colours are and how they merge into eachother, but this was a good development because I was able to explore colour theory and how it works as a principle.

I do need to develop this slightly more because I think theyre slightly too simple and need to look like theyre apart of a composition that is aligned and makes it whole because of this- a bigger square? **note, i also like the fact that theres no definition, makes the composition feel more open, simple and effective**

These are my most liked developments of proportion. I gained alot of positive feedback when I created these patterns using repeating dot and line elements that created these aesthetically pleasing, simplistic patterns that represented proportion as a principle. They both look like shells you find on the beach, which is natures actual use of proportion that when people were studying proportion, found, it naturally occurs in nature- which is what i found out from my research, so both of these patterns are clear and effective for the use of proportion within design. They both represent the fibonacci spiral in an effective way using the dots and lines and they stand out as very dominant patterns so I will probably use one of these as the final for my editorial to represent proportion and the fibonacci spiral because of all the positive feedback recieved for them.

I have discovered that hierarchy is about the most important bits of a design being seen first then the middle most important next then the least most important next. This is clearly and simply depicted by this image of three dots that get smaller to show the hierarchy between them, theyre all dots, but some are bigger and therefore more important within the brains eye because of this because phycology shows you will go straight to the biggest dot and go down from there because thats the hierarchy. HONOURS- DEVELOPMENTS Creating 4 pages for balance- development on a failed composition
created in illustrator.
didnt look balanced within the grid, and made the background too noisy so the body text got lost within it.
These developments feature one of my failed development screenshots I took. Whilst developing my editorial I had alot of designs that didn’t make the cut and just didnt feel right and didnt suit the theme I was trying to go for. This design was meant to represent balance with dots and lines, with each corner having the same as the opposite corner, therefore balancing the composition. This became ineffective when I started to mock up where my body text and explinations would go and is pattern didnt fit anywhere on the page without looking un balanced, which was the exact opposite of what I wanted. So for this development I went back to my research to look more at balance to see if I could experiment and create a pattern that would actually communicate this principle to the audience. I think its ok to make mistakes when developing because I was able to learn what didnt work and create better content from it and also look back at my research and reference it more.
HONOURS- DEVELOPMENTS Creating 4 pages for balance
My balance pages have two circles in the middle of them, this is to show a symmetrical balance between the two pages that links them up. The black sqaures are to represent where I am going to place the little patterns that will explain the principle in each of the columns, sticking to the grid to make it look more professional. I also made sure all the content was aligned to eachother.
I went back to my research for some inspiration on this principle, I found this article that inspired me after reading about asymmetry and symmetry being the two types of balance you can achieve within a composition using the principles- I used this editorial layout that I found from my research to inspire what its going to look like, I tried to experiment with the typography to create an asymmetrical type but it wasnt very effective to be critical, I then thought about the words themselves, and theyre the same apart from an added ‘A’ so i came up with this typography.
writing is bigger, goes across two of the columns, keeps to the grid to make it look more professional and aligns with all the other content.
It sits perfectly in one of the columns, is clear, bold and would show the audience the use of the two types of balance within a composition.
Circles to show balance within the composition- asymmetrical - bigger circle vs little
HONOURS- DEVELOPMENTS Creating 4 pages for balance When thinking about how I could create the pages for balance, I thought about what balance actually means as a principle. Balance means to balance a composition, but it can also mean to balance something like a juggler, so I came up with this simple design following the dots, lines and planes by creating a dot that sits on the third of the page, whilst the pink goes across exactly two columns and so does the black, but it creates an asymmetrical composition that represents balance within the actual page design, and will also feature the meaning of balance as a principle, which will look effective.
Using my knowledge about editorial design by lining up all the text with the circles. Aligning everything within an editorial is importan to make it look professional and effective. Lining up the text with the circles- using what i know about editorial- grids.
Creating these pages I looked back at each stage and made sure to line up each element so theyre aligned and look the most professional that they can. Lining up the typography with the rest of the grid.
HONOURS- DEVELOPMENTS Creating 4 pages for balance Creating examples of asymmetry and symmetry to show the audience how to use it in practice using dots to represent the aspects of their design. Here I am creating in illustrator, patterns using dots, lines and planes to explain balance as a principle to my audience in the most visual way I can so they can understand how to apply the principle effectively.
Finished double page spread with all guides.
Here is my completed double page spread for balance with everything aligned to the grid, and all the patterns applied. These patterns explain how to apply their aspects of their work to a composition, they would just replace the dots, planes and lines with their designs to create a design that would follow the balance theory and therefore be more effective then if they were to not follow it. I think these pages are effective because they have hierarchy of typography, the visual imagary uses the dots, lines and planes to explain the principle effectively and basically, and the body text fits into the grid and explains the principle, but not so much that it gets broing.
HONOURS- DEVELOPMENTS Creating 4 pages for balance This is my final page next to the pattern that I have created for balance, this page uses the grids and has large type with a definition of balance and one of the reasons that you would use it to make your composition more effective. This page really introduces the principle effectively using the dots, lines and planes that I am using throughout to explain it at the most basic level but also to create graphic pieces of design within the editorial.
Overall, i am happy with the balance pages as theyre colourful, visual, fun and not too much writing so my audience dont get bored and that is exactly what they asked for within my research and they effectively explain the principle to them so they can go away and apply it without getting too confused about it because its in simple terms with lots of visuals that will help them when applying it to their work, because creatives are very visual learners so its effective for me to do this.
First two pages of balance- created this flat graphics illustration to show balance in a fun way using shapes.
Final first two pages within the grid to explain balance- i experimented with moving the typography to create more balance but it actually through off the balance of the final composition so I moved it back to where it was.
Experimenting with the type to see whether I could balance it on the page- I decided against this because it looked more aesthetic on the left side, it also didnt stand out because of all the colours.
HONOURS- DEVELOPMENTS Creating contents pages Here is my developments for creating my contents pages for my editorial piece. I found a reference image from my research on how I should create my contents page that gave me an idea. Because I wanted it to keep with the theme of dots, lines and planes and bold text I came up with this idea. On one page would be the contents word with dots and lines coming off of it that line up with one of the lines that outlines whats on one of the pages, to line everything up and match it to the grid. Overall, I think this idea is effective and makes my contents page really stand out and match the entire brand of my editorial.
I have kept with the brand of coral, white, black and grey scale for the contents pages also. This makes the editorial really effective in keeping up with what the brand looks like. I decided to put the titles of the principles that are explained in each section with the page numbers that theyre on, and i will add the page numbers onto the pages within these developments.
In this screenshot you can see the lines that come off of the contents typography lining up with one of the lines that points out each different section of the editorial, which goes with the grid effectively.
I also lined up the typography and used kerning to make it all line up perfectly e.g. the bottom of the N lining up with the top of the slash.
HONOURS- DEVELOPMENTS Creating 4 pages- rhythm
Here i am creating my rhythm pages for my editorial. These pages will explain what rhythm is to the audience. Repetition is the simplest way to attain rhythm and can be achieved by repeating any of the elements of design (line, colour, texture and pattern, light, and scale and proportion) or other design concepts in an organized and regular way. So to repeat aspects within a composition is to achieve rhythm, so I started to create my page designs based off of this. I started with repeating black bold lines then two circles that repeat on opposite sides of the composition- I then put the definition of rhythm into the black lines and created these pages. I think this looks effective and explains rhythm through the actual editorial design which is effective and what I wanted to do with my editorial design. This makes the audience see the design being applied through everything which further backs up the principle.
I made sure to line everything up within the composition to make it look as effective as I can.
HONOURS- DEVELOPMENTS Creating 4 pages- rhythm
Creating the rhythm pages I made sure to include another pink circle because thats what I included on the first page of the rhythm part of the editorial, and rhythm is about repeating aspects to create structure and wholeness within designs. I then mocked up the writing that I would include. I decided because this editorial needed to be very visual that the opposite page would have a large scale illustration on it using dots, lines and planes that further represented rhythm as a principle for the audience. I ended up creating this big black bold illustration that shows rhythm in the sense of lines and planes that almost ‘beat’ and dispurse outwards within the composition, this is to represent how rhythm uses repeating elements to create this beating throughout the composition.
This is my final composition that I came up with for rhythm. I created patterns that visually represent the body text and what its explaining so the audience can understand better what its all about. I used dots, lines and planes as the basics to visually explain this so that the audience can go off of this and add their own aspects to it. I then added another circle to repeat what the first page looked like to show subtle ways of rhythm within the composition of the editorial.
I used hierarchy of text to show important bits within the body text so the audience doesnt get bored also, so that the principle can be explained with better structure. Overall, I am happy with the final development of the pages of this editorial based off of research and what im aiming to achieve with this editorial, it really represents rhythm as a principle to the audience and explains it in a simple, visual way using dots, lines and planes.
HONOURS- DEVELOPMENTS Creating 4 pages- repetition
DESIGN CLASSICS PRESENTS:
REPETITION
Repetition as a principle is really good when it comes to creating patterns that represent it, because as a principle is means to repeat things throughout your design whether it be colour, typeface, the way you set out your work, to create wholeness within the work and make it all fit together effectively.
T h e a r ra n g e m e n t o f o p p o s i te e l e m e n t s ( l i g h t v s . d a r k co l o r s , l a rg e v s . s m a l l s h a p e s , etc . ) i n a p i e ce s o a s to c re a te v i s u a l i n te re s t , e xc i te m e n t a n d d ra m a .
This bold pattern I came up with was based off of repetition being a repeat of elements within a design, I repeated the dots but put them behind eachother and used contrast to make it stand out more. this bold pattern is effective for the representation of repetition because of the elements repeating within it that will engage the reader. I tried to put it in the centre of the pages within this composition, but it didn’t look as effective as I thought it would.
I experimented with this composition, enlarging the pattern, putting it across the grid, putting it in the middle to make sure it would look the most effective it could. I finally came to a conclusion that it needed to be on a page by itself because it was such a bold statement of a design. So I put it onto the right side page of the article to be there to represent repetition and what it stands for as a principle.
HONOURS- DEVELOPMENTS Creating 4 pages- repetition Here is the design I settled on for repetition. it comes in at an angle and looks the most effective it could because you can clearly see the pattern is something to do with repeating elements and it makes it look effective being by itself, I then added a little fact about repetition in the top left hand corner within the first column of the grid to balance the composition out. This element of my developments failed because no matter where I moved it to, it didnt look right and took up too much off the page, so I deleted it and tried again with simplier designs using dots, lines and planes that explained repetition.
I went back into illustrator and came out with these simplistic patterns that I created to effectively explain what repetition was through the use of dots, lines and planes. I came up with showing the difference between repetition and rhythm so the audience didnt get confused through simplistic patterns that shows what they each look like. I used the patterns to explain the principle effectively to the audience with as little words as possible and alot of visuals because from my feedback thats what my audience wanted. This was effective and I was able to create my final pages for repetition using these patterns. Every time I explained something to do with the principle I would use some sort of pattern to explain further into it and what it meant, overall this meant I was able to visually represent the principle.
HONOURS- DEVELOPMENTS Creating 4 pages- alignment
DESIGN CLASSICS PRESENTS:

On my alignment pages I had to definatly make sure that everything was aligned within the deisgns.
Made sure each letter within this title was aligned to create the alignment within the composition as well.
On the first page opposite to the pattern I created this- this pattern was to show that the use of alignment can really make something stand out as a focal point when that particular aspect doesn’t keep to the alignment within the grid. I found this out from research on alignment, that if something actually breaks alignment it causes a focal point to composition.
Throughout my editorial I have made it a habit to include the definition of the principle in question on the right hand page so the audience knows straight away what the principle were talking about is about.
This information was key, so I created this to show all content being aligned and then the one thing that isnt becomes the focal point- these all line up to the grid as well perfectly to show the use of the alignment within the grid making the overall design look more effective. It uses all of the colours within my editorial as well, and uses planes of pink and black to create this composition.
HONOURS- DEVELOPMENTS Creating 4 pages- alignment
On my alignment pages I made sure to create it so they are all aligned to the grid effectively. I also created patterns that used dots, lines and planes that effectively communicated the different ways of aligning something to a page, whilst also aligning them to the grid I created. I made sure to keep all elements within the grid.
This piece of typography was inspired by a piece I had seen through my research, each letter is aligned to the lines, therefore further visual representing alignment as a principle overall. I think this is effective way of representing this principle and showing the audience how you can effectively apply it to your work.
These are my final pages that I created using the alignment principle, they all align to the grid im using, whilst all explaining what alignment is about and using dots, lines and planes to create these simple patterns that explain how to align things to the centre, left, right, and to a grid. These pages are effective overall because they explain this principle clearly to the audience and use alot of visuals to do so.
HONOURS- DEVELOPMENTS Creating 4 pages- direction DESIGN CLASSICS PRESENTS:
DIRECTION
Here are my developments for when I created my editorial pages on direction. Above you can see screenshot of me aligning my type to eachother to make the composition look more effective. Direction within design principles is having pieces of the work that move your eye from one place to another effectively. I started off this composition with just a simple triangle (plane) that looks like an arrow, The composition then got slightly stuck so I added two more and created this direction pattern that actually explained direction within white space and the arrows- effective.
lining up pieces. perfectly lined up to the grid- effective layout.
HONOURS- DEVELOPMENTS Creating 4 pages-direction
When creating the double page spread for my direction principle I really had to think about the fact direction moves the audiences eyes to where the designer wants them to be. So I started to think about arrows, because they point you in the right direction.
On the opposite page I created these patterns that were made from lines that depicted two arrows pointing towards eachother, and lined them up to the grid. I thought this was an effective way of representing direction because it shows the audience that direction is a part of design where the apects lead the audiences eye around the page. The columns and shapes were also able to do this through this composition.
I started out by looking at the two types of direction, horizontal and vertical, I used big typography in the way that the type explains and lined them up the grid. I then lined up to opposite sqaures to add texture to the piece. Final first two pages explaining directionrepresenting with the definition of it, effective use of block shapes with dots, lines and planes.
HONOURS- DEVELOPMENTS Creating 4 pages- hierarchy T h e re u s e o f t h e s a m e o r s i m i l a r e l e m e n t s t h ro u g h o u t yo u r d e s i g n .
DESIGN CLASSICS PRESENTS:
I started to develop my hierarchy pages for my project here, I started with gaining some reference from my research on editorial layouts and what hierarchy was and how it worked, I found this which was similar to my layout of grey with black writing on top, so I used it as reference to get my layout started in terms of my hierarchy.
H I E R A RC H Y
T h e re u s e o f t h e s a m e o r s i m i l a r e l e m e n t s t h ro u g h o u t yo u r d e s i g n .
I started off by typing DOMINANCE in big bold writing to make that the top of the hierarchy and line it up to the grid, to show what hierarchy within typography can do and represent that when creating something that sits at the top of the hierarchy, it creates dominance within a composition. I also added to this by creating dots in the background that had a dominant circle- which i managed to make the ‘o’ in dominance to add to the effectiveness of how dominance works within hierarchy- the ‘o’ you look to first is the ‘o’ in dominance because its black and bold whilst the others are just in the background and thinner.
I then took a hierarchy pattern that I had created previously and added it to the page to represent how hierarchy can look through simple dots.
I then added simple dots and planes to represent the different types of hierarchy to educate the audience simply on what hierarchy can look like when used effectively through colour, shape, and contrast.
HONOURS- DEVELOPMENTS Creating 4 pages- hierarchy
looked back at research to find out the definition of hierarchy to include on the page next to the pattern to inform audience straight away.
lined up all aspects onto the grid- looks more professional and effective.
I decided on this type of pattern for hierarchy on the first page to represent it in its simpliest form using planes with the colour palette ive chosen, because this will simply represent hierarchy through the fact that the hierarchy is that the bigger square seems more important because of how big it is, this layout will introduce the audience to the idea of hierarchy.
I left the right page as a simplistic use of dots to represent hierarchy because the left page was so dense with knowledge I didnt want it to get too type overloaded so I made the right page visually dominant, which really works and shows effective use of editorial design.
I lined up and added all of these simple use of dots and planes to represent the idea of the different type of hierarchy including contrast, scale, shape, colour and alignment, all of these are different ways hierarchy can occur within a compostion so I wanted to visually represent that within my composition so my audience understands it fully and knows how to apply it within their own work. I had to slightly re arrange this page because the composition didnt look right when I first created it, I then made it a bit more balanced by putting all the visuals in one place on the grid- looks more effective.
Then added the definition to this composition using the grid and created the first page that simply represented hierarchy and how it works.
HONOURS- DEVELOPMENTS Creating 4 pages- colour theory DESIGN CLASSICS PRESENTS:

This is the colour theory pattern I decided to go with because it was the most, simple effective and informative out of all the patterns I created.
colour theory was a difficult one to create into pages because of the fact my whole editorial branding followed this colour palette of grey scale, black, white and coral. Colour theory had to be different colours in order to represent it properly so I had to come out of that colour palette and start to apply different colours whilst sticking with the same typography and background grey colour to keep it so it still looks part of the editorial.
I then thought that it didnt scream colour theory enough so I wanted to develop it even further.
T h e re u s e o f t h e s a m e o r s i m i l a r e l e m e n t s t h ro u g h o u t yo u r d e s i g n . T h e re u s e o f t h e s a m e o r s i m i l a r e l e m e n t s t h ro u g h o u t yo u r d e s i g n .
To create these pages and the potential background patterns that I would need to that represnted colour theory I went back to my research to look at what colour theory was about- came across triadic colour theory, where 3 colour equally spaced around the colour wheel make a really effective colour palette.
So I started by creating these triangular shapes like the ones within my pattern that had each of the triadic colours I had chosen within them and they fit to the grid, being half the size of each page and the third one going across two columnsthis was effective and I thought really represented colour theory well in the background for the audience to take note of.
HONOURS- DEVELOPMENTS Creating 4 pages- colour theory Here I came up with this design using dots, lines and planes. The triangles being planes and the circle being a dot, I created this stripped back, abstract way of representing the colour wheel, I used the circle as the centre of it, and the two triangles (planes) that featured complementry colours on the actual colour wheel inside them, to represent how, in colour theory, if you use completmentry colours ( colours on opposite sides of the wheel) they compliment eachother within a composition- This was really effective to me and helped me to represent colour theory very visually throughout my compositions.
i wrote the articles keeping to the grid to make it look more professional and had the same point size I have had throughout the magazine (13pt) with 20 kerning, and on the important bits made the typography bold, with a bigger title that says colour theory, all using the same font that had a large family I mentioned previously in this project of bold, semi bold, italic, regular, thin etc.
On the left hand page i then went back to my research adn started to pick out the basic information about colour theory that I thought I needed to include within my composition including about the colour wheel and complementry, analogous and triadic colours and a bit about colour psychology for the audience to take in, I used the tradinitional dots, lines and planes to represent these colours that you can include within a composition to visually represent how you can combine colours within a palette in design. This was really effective because i was able to include information about colour theory that would actually be of use to the audience that they could apply to their work using my colour wheel that I had created for the pattern in context. I then went back to the page opposite the colour theory pattern and created my definition page, which followed the colour palette of the magazine, but was inspired by an editorial that I gathered within my research and the application of the principles, using coral in half of the composition to show a bold colour, then the title and the definition within the columns. On each of these pages I also have a consistant ‘ / principle theory’ with whatever principle is being talked about before the slash, this is to create consistancy throughout the editorial that the audience would notice and their brain would like it because your brain likes consistancy (repetition) within compositions because it allows it to find a pattern, which is historically what your brain likes to do with everything around you because it makes it feel comfortable because it can guess whats coming next, it also introduces the article.
HONOURS- DEVELOPMENTS Creating 4 pages- unity
DESIGN CLASSICS PRESENTS:
UNITY
T h e re u s e o f t h e s a m e o r s i m i l a r e l e m e n t s t h ro u g h o u t yo u r d e s i g n .
I went back to my research for unity because you have to apply all of the principles basically to create a composition that follows unity as a principle, I saw some reference that I had gathered for it and creates some editoral pieces surrounding that idea of it.
I first drew this giant ‘u’ to represent unity that perfectly aligned up to the grids, this was to make the pages aesthetically pleasing for the audience overall. T h e re u s e o f t h e s a m e o r s i m i l a r e l e m e n t s t h ro u g h o u t yo u r d e s i g n .
This is the pattern I chose to go within the unity pages in my magazine because its so simple yet effective and the audience would get it straight away and it represents that principle so clearly and effectively overall.
I then made sure that the title aligned up to the grid as usual to make it look more professional, I was going to make it white but then I changed the colour of the ‘u’ to white and made the title black and this seemed to stand out way more and look more effective.
Unity has to be represented by the whole composition feeling whole and together so I tried to incorporate as much of the principles as I could within these pages.
Here you can see the ‘u’ lining up to the grid perfectly, which is one of the principles that it represents (alignment), so this was a perfect way of subtly reprsenting it as a principle within it.
HONOURS- DEVELOPMENTS Creating 4 pages- unity
I started with the right hand page within the double page spread- I created the title within illustrator and put it into indesign, I made the ‘y’ slightly cut off to fit in with the grid to make it feel unified, I the used the simplistic circle to represent unity and split it to go along with the grid, I aligned them perfectly and also balanced out the composition by adding bits of the circle to other parts of the composition. This was effective because it represents the circles that represent unity splitting off into diffferent parts of the composition, to represent that unity has many different parts within a composition that help it to create a whole within a design.
Here I look back onto my research to find out more about unity and what it means, I found that there are different ways of creating unity and some of the main principles used to create unity are contrast, repetition and alignment, so these are the principles are concentrated on applying throughout the composition. I then made sure to line up all the body text to create this representation of the principle through the composition like I have been doing throughout the editorial to make it more clear to the audience how it can effect a design and make it look more professional and more effective, which is the point of my editorial, to show the audience of students that applying and knowing about these principles can greatly advance you as a designer because theyre the basics to having any good design. In my developments I created the final first two pages for unity using this consistant circle that represented the composition being whole and complete. This was effective because i applied what id found from my research on creating good unity you have to apply repetition, so by doing this I was putting into practice unity and showing the audience how effective it can make designs look, I then added the definition, to show consistancy and repetition throughout my editorial and make it look more effective and kept it simple for this principle because unity is simple, once everything is applied your design will be unified. These are the final two pages I created for my unity principle. I have been doing throughout, but i took special care to make these aspects all line up, the aspect of the coral circle repeat for repetition and to use contrast in the colours in the background to explain this principle. I think this will communicate effectively to the audience this principle because it shows how unified a design can be once everything is in place and applied to the designs. Overall, I think these pages will definatly communicate unity to the audience and help them to understand how to achieve it through the body text and through the dots, lines and plane patterns throughout show them what it can do for a piece of design by making it more effective, which is the whole point of my project, to help them to be better designers by understanding the principles through my simple guide using visual graphic prompts ive created and applying my knowledge in the principles, editorial design, typography and graphics.
HONOURS- DEVELOPMENTS moving image To create this part of my moving image i used an effect and preset to make my dot look like it transforms into a different shape, I then keyframed it to move to create this effect. The point of creating this was to show the dots, lines and planes that have been my theme throughout my moving image and create effective transitions that advertise my editorial using the techniques that I’ve done within it.
I then keyframed the scale of the circle to move so when it transitions into the rectangles that i had previously storyboarded it would be smooth and wouldnt be noticed. When the transition occurs I also faded the circle into the rectangle by masking it to appear as the circle dissapears to create a clean transition.
Here you can see how I masked the circle to turn into the rectangle effectively and used position/opacity tool to make the transition smoother and more effective. I created this transition to show each of the elements of my editorial and some of the principle patterns that I had created to the audience through an animation to make them more interested in what it was about to essentially advertise my moving image overall.
HONOURS- DEVELOPMENTS moving image
Pre comped all of the lines and then rotated the lines aprox 45 degrees, and then pre comped it again, then added the mirror effect and set the mirror to be the centre of the screen, if i hadnt previously pre comped this layer then the mirror would rotate along with the lines and the effect wouldnt work. Since the mirror stays still as the lines rotate, they mirror to create the hierarchy triangle. mirrored shape
I have created these animations for my moving image to show really smooth transitions through my moving image that show the different patterns ive created morphing into eachother to advertise my moving image effectively
I had one central dot, then duplicated the dot and on the duplicated dot I added a transform displacement effect and then keyframed the transform to move the dot up, advantage of using this effect is the actual centre of the layer stays in the middle of the composition so when I came to rotate the dots later the anchor point of the rotation is in the centre so the dot doesnt just rotate around itself. I then duplicated the dot again and added a higher value to the transform to have a dot above it and repeated this one more time, I then added a slightly different rotation value to each of the layers, meaning each of the dots offset eachother creating one arm of the spiral, all of these dots and the animation that ive created with them was then pre comped and then rotated around the central axis to create the spiral that I done for this. Then I added a subtle rotation to the pre comp I just made so that it doesnt stay still after the dots expand and i used the similar rotation to transition into the colour theory pattern I created.
HONOURS- DEVELOPMENTS moving image
This is the graph that changes the way the after effects transitions from one key frame to the next. This can be used to smooth out key frames by adding smooth curves to the graph vise versa to create sharper transitions you use sharper angles.
Here I used turbulent displace and keyframed the effect to make the circle that I had created go into partcle type shapes that flow around the page and turn into the square that comes afterwards, this is just another transition that I have found and researched that really helps my moving image become more effective and look more professional overall for my audience. I keyframed the amount to increase as the keyframe moves along so it appears to animate and morphe into a different shape. The reason I am creating a moving image with all of these transitions into different shapes is to represent my editorial and advertise it in a way that will entice the audience and make them interested in what the moving image is about and the animations that follow my brand of black and white. This is really effective and helps to boost how effective my editorial is by advertising it to the audience as this really fun, quick moving animation that will get their attention.
Rotation keyframes to make the spiral rotate effectively and cleanly.
HONOURS- DEVELOPMENTS front cover of editorial These are my final developments for the front of my editorial that I have created. I made the title bigger because from my research I found this was the most effective way to create the front of a magazine using the logo I had created and the ‘a guide to the principles’. I then made sure that the line that balances out the composition at the bottom lines up with the bottom of the ‘10’ to make it more compositionally effective.
for my final layout for my front and back page, i decided to take out the title because the title is at the front of the magazine and therefore doesnt need to be repeated, then I lined up everything and this is my final front and back cover which is creative and represents whats inside the editorial following what is inside with dots and a brief explination.
HONOURS- DEVELOPMENTS moving image final For my moving image I wanted to create something that advertised my editorial that could play on a loop in my show. I wanted to include dots, lines and planes in black and white to keep with the whole theme of my project to show consistancy so people would releate the moving image with the editorial and creates transitioning shapes that were interesting visually and want to know what it was about then read my editorial. Here I masked the line so it would appear throughout my moving image using the mask tool within after effects.
Masked line
At the end of my moving image I actually trimmed the music I was using and prolonged the ending so that the title could appear in time to a beat because what ive learnt from my research and years of doing moving image, is that a moving image is 10x more effective when it syncs up to the music that is being played behind it. I wanted to mention the title at the end of the moving image so people understand its an advertisement type animation for that editorial and go and read the editorial, so I lined it up with the music and using keyframes made it appear really quickly with opacity then dissapear into the background. moved music to fit with title
I wanted to incorporate the principles that would be included within my editorial into my moving image because it teases what principles will actually be featured within the editorial, it also makes the audience wonder what shapes has to do with the design principles- all to advertise effectively to the audience.
to create this effect of the different principles scrolling down I keyframed them to go down at the same time as the other one is coming down, pre comped the whole section- feathered mask to fade off as they get close to the top or bottom and that creates an effect of them scolling up and down within the composition.
HONOURS- DEVELOPMENTS moving image final I duplicated a square to create a line of squares which was referenced from research I had completed on my moving image and what transitions I could do throughout, there was one transition in which the shapes transformed into the words, so I wanted to include this at the end of my moving image. I used the graphic and easy ease to create a smooth movement from the squares to the typography titles.
Used graph and easy ease to create smooth movement.
Masked letters
I done this to make my moving image have a last bit of detail that really made alot of difference to how effective it looked overall.
To make the transition clean I masked the letters and created the same amount of sqaures as there was letters in the first word to create a smoother transition, I then animated the mask to move down to reveal the letters underneath the squares really quickly so that it was a smooth transition. This was effective because I was able to reveal the first principle within my editorial then reveal all the rest of them with an effect that made them look like they scrolled down the screen effectively within my moving image. I done this because I wanted my moving image to come off as a advertisement for my editorial and to feature the titles that I would be writing and designing about within it so that it prepares the audience for what is inside the editorial content.
Coming towards the end of creating my moving image it felt like something was missing. I went back to my research to see if there was anything I could add because my animations felt too bland. I found that adding particles to the animations can make them look more detailed and more animated overall. This is effective because I was able to go back at the end and add a particle effect to some of the aspects of my moving image, increase the birth rate and make it go around the shape I included to make it look like when it was animating the particles would fly off of the spinning aspects of the animation, adding that last touch to it really helped make a different and make it look more effective. I also added lines that came off the shapes at the start that make it look more animated and effective overall asa moving image. I am happy with how it turned out and it effectively adevrtises my editorial with shapes and typography that reflect the themes.
HONOURS- DEVELOPMENTS moving image final
At the end of my moving image, I realised that at the end of year exibition, I will want my moving image to loop around all night, so I will have to end as I started, with a white screen, so I keyframed a white screen to come in right at the end on the last transition to help this loop look smoother to the audience at the show.
I then uploaded my completed moving image to YouTube to submit on the 11th of April.
When I uploaded my final moving image to YouTube, I looked back at the none copyright music to make sure there was nothing I had to include about it, and there was, I had to copy and paste this text and put it into the text box provided on YouTube to stop any copyright infringement.
HONOURS- DEVELOPMENTS Large prints For my large prints, I have decided to use some of the patterns that I will be using for my representations of the principles patterns, I’m going to use around four of them and get them printed at A2 to fit the boards that I have got to exibit my project on at the final show in May. These will act as large prints to advertise not only the principles and how they can be represented as simple illustrations using simple geometric shapes of dots, lines and planes, which was the challenge for my whole project, but also to advertise the editorial I have created and show off the graphics that I have created within the editorial. I will choose four of the designs that are my favourite to get printed large for my show, I am then planning to mount them onto capa board to place on one side of my boards for the show.
UNITY
Postcards I spoke to Adam and Andy about my project, and they asked about all of the development patterns I have created that are not getting used because I’ve chosen my final 10. They both gave me feedback that I should include them within the show as different postcards that people can pick up and take away with the different patterns on them and my information on the back as a way of promoting myself. I think this is a really good idea and will help my extra patterns that ive created not go to waste and be seen by the public. I’ve researched about this and on MOO.COM you can order 25 post cards for £25 and they can feature up to 25 different designs on the back at no extra cost so this will be really helpful to me because I can then order them with all the different patterns on.
These extras will be mocked up on Behance to show what they will look like then be seen printed and finished at the show to effectively show my work off to the public and potential audiences of my editorial.
