OVER WYRE MEDICAL CENTRE

The Front Room

As many of you will already know, The Front Room at the medical centre was set up as a communal space in May of 2019 inviting charities and organisations to our doorstep to help provide services and advice to our local community. During 2019, the service developed and hosted groups for chronic pain, children’s therapy, dementia and cancer advice. Local volunteers would utilise the space to host computer sessions, yoga sessions and relaxing therapies. We also held some successful events as fundraisers and Christmas celebrations. However, Covid came along and our vision lost its way. We continue to live in a world where Covid remains prevalent, but it is clear to see that problems with mental health, wellbeing and loneliness have been exacerbated by the restrictions imposed upon us during 2020 and 2021. Although we need to be mindful of ongoing social distancing and hygiene precautions, we feel that patients should benefit from The Front Room and these resources once again. We therefore announce a re-launch party of The Front Room on Fri 3rd Dec, 10:00am - 1:00pm. This is a sociable event welcoming local services to showcase their wealth of resources to the local community. Guests include: Lesley Crompton and Kerry Cousens from Wyre Borough Council, the MacMillan Team, Cat Smith, our local MP, the Blackpool Smile Chronic Pain group, Lancashire Volunteer Services, our very own social prescriber and many more. Hambleton Primary Academy have kindly agreed to be our resident artists decorating our walls with vibrant artwork – thank you to the children and teachers for all their support! There will be socially distanced coffee and

refreshments on offer with some music and festive atmosphere. We will also be using the launch of our community room to support two important charities. The Indie Rose Trust has been selected by Caroline, Mark and Ben Dempsey. This is a charity that creates bespoke treasure boxes for children with cancer. Olivia Dempsey received a heart-warming, thoughtful box of goodies during her battle with cancer from The Indie Rose Trust and this really touched the hearts of the whole family. Our vision is to create a stunning Christmas tree filled with chocolates and bright colours. The idea is to take a chocolate in return for a donation of your choosing! This charity campaign will run throughout December so please pop in to take a treat and donate. In memory of Alison Harrison, our dedicated chair of the patient participation group, who sadly died in October 2021, we would like to

Roll up, roll up – we are having a tombola! This will be organised by our fabulous patient participation group, a number of whom will be in attendance to provide support and catering on the day. We’d love to see the community come out to support the re-launch of our community room. It is a vision that is close to our hearts and we are enthusiastic to recreate a homely space where patients can access those holistic aspects of health and social care which have been less accessible over the last 18 months. I would like to take this opportunity to wish everybody a very merry Christmas from our team here at Over Wyre Medical Centre. All the best for the 2022. Stay safe.
