Message from the Executive Mayor of Cape Town The City of Cape Town is once again proud to host the Jive Cape Town Funny Festival delivered by Turkish Airlines. I can hardly believe that it’s been 11 years since the festival first opened. We have seen it grow from humble beginnings into one of South Africa’s premier comedy events. The calibre of local and international comedians it now attracts is a sign that the Cape Town Funny Festival is on par with comedy festivals hosted in other major cities across the world. We are particularly pleased that the festival has become a springboard forhome-grown emerging comedians to Executive Mayor Patricia de Lille launch their careers. The City is a proactive supporter of initiatives that create opportunities, especially among the youth. Events such as this not only provide opportunities, but also support our strategy to position Cape Town as the events capital of Africa. as this not only provide opportunities, but also support our strategy to position Cape Town as the events capital of Africa. While Cape Town traditionally enjoys strong tourism numbers during summer, the City is committed to growing Cape Town’s events calendar during winter, and by so doing increase visitor numbers during this period. The Cape Town Funny Festival is one of the key events that help counter seasonality and encourage more people to visit our city. We are therefore proud to sponsor the Jive Cape Town Funny Festival delivered by Turkish Airlines and trust that it will continue to grow in stature and draw ever larger audiences. I would like to congratulate the organisers for their hard work and for once again attracting a selection of supremely talented local and international comedians for the 2015 edition of the show. @CityofCT

WELCOME TO THE FESTIVAL - Eddy cassar - Festival director Welcome to the 11th Jive Cape Town Funny Festival delivered by Turkish Airlines. I have had fun putting this festival programme together and found that once my thinking had crystalised and many of the artists contracted, the show had a strong musical bias. Top that with the choice of Alistair Izobell as the Master of Ceremonies, I am certain that Alistair as “Mr Music Cape Town” will take you on a comedy trip that you’ll enjoy and remember for years to come. I welcome back the music giant that is Earl Okin. I remember seeing him in a tiny London club in the early 90s and invited him to the first Funny Festival in 2005. Eleven years later he’s back. Enjoy him, he has worked with all the greats, he is truly a genius. I am happy to also welcome back the Raymond and Mr Timpkins Revue. Here 5 years ago for a short period, this traditional UK music act has grown in stature and popularity. They perform for the first fortnight and are replaced by Baccala Clowns, the hottest circus act I have ever seen. Baccala Clowns hail from Italy and were the hit at the Edinburgh Festival last year. Their creativity will astound you. Appreciate them as this calibre of artist does not appear often. Street performers have always enthralled me. Two such artists I have known for many years are Mike Raffone and Bruce Airhead. They are both stalwarts on Covent Garden and the Glastonbury Festival. Enjoy them. They both follow the music theme. I am indebted to the local comedians for participating. Tumi Morake and Shimmy Isaacs are busy artists, the vanguard of female comics in the country, involved in script writing, acting and live performing. Tumi is a mother of three young children and yet finds the time to do the Funny Festival. I am indebted. Dylan Skews, Carl Webber, Tracy Klass and Siv Ngesi are stalwarts of the Cape Town comedy scene and are at the pinnacle of their careers. Enjoy and celebrate them. Carl Wastie has made a niche for himself on the Funny Festival. He is fearless and a delight to work with. Each performer, local or international, leaves the Festival as an ambassador of the Funny Festival and of Cape Town and the region. I thank the New Kings Hotel, Aquila Private Game Reserve, Cape Town Tourism, Paarl and Wellington Tourism, VW Volkswagen, City Sightseeing and Wesgro for their involvement. Welcome to new sponsors Turkish Airlines, who have invested heavily in the region by incorporating a daily direct flight from the Mother City to Istanbul from October this year. Please support them. Finally, my sincere thanks to Jive for their continued support of the Funny Festival. Their interest in local comedy must be commended. Enjoy the show and thanks for supporting the Jive Cape Town Funny Festival delivered by Turkish Airlines. To stay up to date during the festival follow us on twitter @JiveCTFunnyFest.

@JiveCooldrink g Head of Marketin S QUALITY BEVERAGE
Quality Beverages has been a proud partner to this hugely successful annual event and with our fourth year ahead of us, we are honoured to be part of the Jive Cape Town Funny Festival family. Year on year this amazing show fills theatres from the start to the very end, showcasing our local talent and drawing many international artists. Our title sponsorship gives us an opportunity to make an impact on the community which we serve, not only highlighting the incredible and sometimes unnoticed talent we have in South Africa but also by bringing awareness to The Red Cross Children’s Hospital Trust. We’ve enjoyed a long, meaningful history with them and for numerous years we have given a percentage of our sales to this extraordinary hospital that not only cares for the kids of South Africa but there are kids from all over the world who have had the privilege of getting the very best care available. I can safely say that every one of us has experienced their love through a relative, close friend, acquaintance or has been personally touched by the The Red Cross Children’s Hospital in some way. They need all the help they can get and will be in the common areas during the show’s interval so please reach into you pockets and contribute to the trust. Our CEO, Sharief Parker, founded Quality Beverages (Jive) 26 years ago, on the principles of integrity, sincerity and hard work and we continue to operate within these beliefs today. The projects we get involved with, like the Jive Cape Town Funny Festival delivered by Turkish Airlines, share our values which mean so much to us and our own cause to uplift the community who support us. South Africans have always had a keen sense of humour and the staff here at Jive look forward to the festival all year round. We are all so proud to be involved and have the Jive Cape Town Funny Festival as a key event on our calendar. I too personally love comedy, I attend as many of the shows as possible and without fail I laugh harder and harder each night. It still blows me away each time I sit in the back row and watch how we come together as a nation to laugh at ourselves.... Let’s raise a glass....of Jive of course, to Eddy Cassar and his team, to what I trust will be yet another show stopping Jive Cape Town Funny Festival. Thanks

A message from Turkish Airlines
Zafer Bolukbasi, Turkish Airlines General Manager, Cape Town
“Turkish Airlines is delighted to sponsor the Cape Town Funny Festival this year. We are confident in the professionalism of Cape Town Funny Festival team due to their many years of experience in operating popular comedy shows. Last year, Turkish Airlines sponsored the Cape Town Funny Festival in London, which was a huge success, so it is natural for us to sponsor the event in the Mother City this year. We decided to sponsor this event because comedy is a social event that brings people together through laughter – an activity that many brands aspire to do. The benefits of comedy, laughter and humour include increased endorphins and dopamine, relaxation, and reduced pain and stress. What we are trying to do at Turkish Airlines is very similar to the benefits of comedy - we try to create delightful stories and experiences for our customers. We wish loads of laughter to all attendees of this year’s show and hope to meet them on board.” About Turkish Airlines: Established in 1933 with a fleet of five aircraft, Star Alliance member Turkish Airlines is a 4-star airline today with a fleet of 277 (passenger and cargo) aircraft flying to 274 destinations worldwide with 226 international and 48 domestic. According to Skytrax survey of 2014, Turkish Airlines was chosen “Europe’s Best Airline” for the fourth and “Best Airline in Southern Europe” for the sixth consecutive time. Having won in 2010 the world’s “Best Economy Catering Service” and in 2013 the world’s “Best Business Catering Service” awards, Turkish Airlines was this year awarded the world’s “Best Business Catering Service” and “Best Business Class Lounge Dining” prizes in the Skytrax survey. Carl is embarrassed by little and is game for the odd audience participation joke during the show. In this capacity, he has played Constable Carl, or the sexy gym instructor in skimpy lycra. Carl is a lovable character and a joy to have as part of the cast.

Tumi Morake If you’re not already aware of Tumi’s rapid transition from screen and stage actress to show-stopping headline comic, then society and it’s trappings, like human contact, is not for you, now back in your cave. Tumi is smart, outspoken and vivacious – and she keeps taking the audience by the short and curlies and bringing it to its knees.
Black and Bing Crosby and is currently been filmed for a crowd funded project similar to the Searching for Sugarman movie. The film crew are in Cape Town following him on the Funny Festival. Earl Okin is also one of the world’s finest jazz singers. In addition, he is probably the finest performer of Bossa Nova outside of Brazil. Though occasionally @EarlOkin performing with a trio, he normally performs solo, accompanying m himself at the guitar or piano United Kingdo as most appropriate for the song.
FULL FESTIVAL
Last but not least, he’s renowned for his legendary ‘vocal trumpet’ solos. Earl has given concerts around the world in theatres, clubs and festivals, and regularly performs at London’s premier Jazz Club, Ronnie Scott’s.
Earl Okin For years, Earl Okin has headlined under the by-line ‘Musical Genius & Sex Symbol’ (also the name of his SONY CD). He first learnt his stage craft in folk clubs. When they were replaced by comedy clubs, Earl moved effortlessly from one to the other and has been a headline act on the unforgiving UK alternative comedy circuit for decades, highly respected by all his fellow performers, young and old. Among his admirers are such names as Billy Connolly (who likewise began his career in folkclubs), Sacha Baron Cohen and Eddie Izzard (at whose clubs Earl headlined when they were both starting out). Among his American admirers are such established names as Emo Philips and Rick Overton. Earl has probably performed more ‘encores’ than just about anyone around and his blend of comedy and music is in demand literally around the world. Earl was first signed to the same company as The Beatles, recording at the legendary Abbey Road Studios, in 1967. At that time, his songs were also covered by Helen Shapiro, Cilla Black and Georgie Fame. Over the years he has opened for Van Morrison and Paul McCartney and Wings, written for Cilla

As one of the few female stand ups in South Africa, Tracy takes an irreverent look at what women find funny – themselves. In July 2011 Tracy appeared in her first full length stand up show – Klass Struggle which ran at On Broadway for three weeks, the show ran at Theatre on the Square in Johannesburg for three weeks in February 2012 to great reviews. She now performs across the country on a regular basis.
Siv Ngesi Siv says he sucks at writing his bio and says all you need to know about him is that his is a comic and an actor. However, those close to him know that Siv is one of the hardest workers in the industry, has a CV that colleagues would die for and has worked on huge movies with even bigger actors. Invictus, Long Walk to Freedom, Black Sails the list goes on and on. He has several acting awards to his name and was recently contracted by the UN in New York to MC a host of events for them. Siv is game for anything especially if it’s for charity. He has a hugely positive outlook, an infectious laugh and “can do” attitude. He had ex-pats in London crying with laughter at last year’s Cape Town Funny Festival in London. Siv is a born and bred Capetonian and a wonderful addition to any comedic line-up. Enjoy him.

I Baccala' Clowns The Baccalà Clown was born from the union of Simone Fassari and Camilla Pessi. After attending the Teatro Dimitri School in Switzerland together, they both went on to have different experiences performing in many circuses and cabarets in far-away countries without seeing each other for years. Then, one day in 2004, Simone contacted Camilla to substitute his previous partner and so this is how an opportunity presented itself - to the two of them and to the world - to understand the artistic and human complicity that was born from their exceptional way of working. Together they perfected the characteristics and techniques of their characters until they created the repertoire with which they travelled and continue to travel the world. In 2008 Valerio Fassari, artist, man of theatre, musician and above all a true friend joined the company to support it during its participation in important international circus festivals like those of Moscow, China and Paris at the festival of Cirque de Demain. From that point on their artistic and personal collaboration developed and had a big influence on their work. Under his external supervision, they mastered the dimensions of the theatrical clown performance.

A chance meeting with the legendary cast of the Carry On films in the early 1970’s, led Eddy Cassar on a life-long fascination with humour and live comedy.
@Eddy_Cassar Festival director
Promoting the Smirnoff Grahamstown Jazz Festival at the National Arts Festival in the late 1980’s was the spark Eddy needed, which led him to eventually produce the country’s first stand-up comedy festival. In 1997 Eddy Cassar founded and produced the inaugural Smirnoff Comedy Festival, which showcased the top local and two international comics. The project won a BASA Award in that year.
The Festival ran till Smirnoff moved on in 2004 and the project changed its name to the Cape Town Funny Festival in 2005 and embraced variety and speciality acts. The project is heavily embedded in the community through its naming rights sponsor, Jive and raises much needed funds for numerous Cape Town charities, including the Red Cross Children’s Trust and the Mayoral Fund. The little Eddy knows about the live entertainment industry was learnt working with David and Renaye Kramer and the late Taliep Petersen on the award-winning production of Kat and the Kings. Eddy has spent his working life in media circles and is actively involved in the Cape Town Cycle Tour, the J&B Met and other major events in the city. He travels to London and the Edinburgh Festival annually in search of new acts.
THE CAPE TOWN FUNNY FESTIVAL IN LONDON NEW WIMBLEDON THEATRE – 20 & 21 NOVEMBER 2015 Following the success of last year’s Cape Town Funny Festival in London, the project returns to the New Wimbledon Theatre for two nights only on 20 and 21 November. Last year, scores of homesick South Africans packed the theatre to get a dose of Cape Town comedy. This year, their favourite comics return for two nights of South African laughter at its very best. The bill includes Alan Committie, Ndumiso Lindi, Kagiso Mokgadi, Siv Ngesi and Tumi Morake. The comedians are treated royally at the Hotel Du Vin & Bistro home to the top tennis players when competing at Wimbledon. The project is supported, amongst others by the City of Cape Town and Wesgro. Bookings can be made at; http://www.atgtickets.com/shows/cape-town-funny-festival/newwimbledon-theatre/
