With Hubert Reeves as a Patron, the "protected sky reserve" of Pic du Midi aims at the preservation of the quality of the star lit sky around the site, well known for its magnificent panorama over the Pyrenees and its world famous astronomical observatory built more than 130 years ago. Hubert Reeves who accompanied the project of Mount Megantic reserve in Canada created by Quebecer Chloe Legris - so far the first site listed by the International Dark Sky Association (IDA) - has intervened to defend the project on the 11th of June 2009 during a conference on light pollution. Last but not least the creation of such reserves is one of the aims of the Environment round table Grenelle de l’Environnement.
