FORT NONGQAI: ESHOWE
7
8 • Armed Nongqai
• Fort Nongqayi
Fort Nongqayi near Eshowe, KwaZulu-Natal, was built to house the barefoot Zulu police force known as the Nongqayi.[1]
Their aim was to force the British authority after the Anglo-Zulu War and to protect the resident commissioner, Sir Melmoth Osborn. The fort was built in 1883 about 2 kilometres from the town centre on a high point that offers a view in all directions. This police unit was based here until 1904 and then disbanded but was called back in 1906 to help the authorities suppress the Bambatha Rebellion. After that it was finally dissolved.[2]
The building has three towers and a spacious courtyard. Bullet holes were built into the walls to repel possible attackers.
Since 1961, the village museum has been established in and around the fort. It pays particular attention to the military, cultural and missionary history of the region.

Admiralty Constabulary
Department overview
Formed 1949
Dissolved 1971
Superseding agency Ministry of Defence Police
Jurisdiction Government of the United Kingdom
Headquarters Admiralty Building Whitehall London
Department executive Chief Constable, Admiralty Constabulary
Parent Department Admiralty, Navy Department (Ministry of Defence)
The Admiralty Constabulary[1] was a police force in the United Kingdom formed under the Special Constables Act 1923. It was formed on 1 October 1949 by merging the Royal Marine Police and
11
the Royal Marine Police Special Reserve (both policing dockyards since 1923) and the Admiralty Civil Police (previously policing naval hospitals).[2] That Admiralty Constabulary was in turn amalgamated with the Army Department Constabulary and the Air Force Department Constabulary in 1971 to form the Ministry of Defence Police.[3]
Precursors
The constabulary can trace its history back to 1686 when the Royal Navy needed an organisation to prevent dockyard crime. So, the Secretary to the Admiralty – Samuel Pepys, the diarist –formed a force of 'porters, rounders, warders and watchmen' to guard the naval yards. Porters identified and escorted visitors, rounders patrolled the yard, warders were responsible for the keys and backed up the porters at the gates, and the part-time watchmen guarded buildings and areas by night.[4]
In 1834 this force became the first dockyard police, with full police powers within the dockyards, and acting as policemen over offences committed by employees and naval personnel within a radius of five miles of the yard. Rewards for obtaining convictions quickly led to corruption, so the force was 'cleaned up' and then abolished. In 1860 dockyard divisions of the Metropolitan Police took over and senior naval officers became magistrates. From 1923 onwards the Metropolitan Police presence began to be replaced by Royal Marines appointed as special constables under the Special Constables Act 1923. No. 3 (Devonport) Division was the last of these six divisions to be pulled out, leaving in 1934, the year which also saw the formal formation of the Royal Marine Police.

The official opening of the Victoria Falls Bridge took place on 12th September 1905. Although the British Association visitors and the official train approached from Victoria Falls, this did not stop the residents, officials, and Barotse Native Police of Northwestern Rhodesia from playing their part in the pomp and ceremony.

SERVING ON THE RAND GOLD MINES
1904 – 1910: CHINESE POLICE
Between 1904 and 1910, over 63,000 contracted miners were brought in to work the mines of the Witwatersrand. Most of these contractors were recruited from the Chinese provinces of Zhili, Shandong and Henan.[5]: 105 They were repatriated after 1910, because of strong White opposition to their presence, It is a myth that the contracted miners brought into South Africa at this time are the forefathers of much of South Africa's Chinese population today –https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_South_Africans

I found the following snippet in the December 1958 Nongqai on page 51: “H/Const. Paul M. Maritz for many years the Station Commander, Umbilo, is on the move. He is taking over the reins as Station Commander, Durban Central, from H/Const. J. H. Grobler who will be retiring early next year” . Greetings Hennie
This is an SAP chopper (G-car troop carrier) that hit trees with its tail rota, in the Wankie area, 1973. The guys in the photo look as though they might be Rhodesian Air Force (recovery team, perhaps?)
I don't have any more information.
Best regards
Adrian Hagget
Morning Hennie
The chopper is SAP, but the guys are Rhodesian Air force (regulars and territorials) who comprised the recovery team.

In 1941, Durban had a distinguished visitor: the graceful Dutch Trans-Atlantic liner Nieuw Amsterdam in war-time austerity paint, seen here being assisted to her berth by SAR tugs.
She brought the King of Greece to South Africa.
Note the Railway Policemen in their smart black uniforms with white pith helmets and gloves.
Apparently, the King was conveyed by rail in a private saloon to Pretoria and the SAR Chef allocated to serve the King was none other than Spiros Metaxsis who six years later, was Head Chef on the 1947 Royal Train.

Daarna sekerheidpersoneel aangestel. Later deur privaat instansies oorgeneem. TOE HET DIE "GROOT HANDEL" OMKOOPERY/KORRUPSIE/DIEFSTAL/STEEL BEGIN.
*Met my aankoms in Worcester in 1974.
