At HCPL this spring Your library has great cozy spots for some winter reading, and even more things to do as the weather warms up: • Spring means it's time again for All Henrico Reads, the county-wide book club with discussion groups at every Henrico library. This year we're very pleased to welcome bestselling naturalist author Sy Montgomery as she speaks about her book The Soul of an Octopus: A Surprising Exploration into the Wonder of Consciousness at Glen Allen High School on April 5 at 7PM. Read the book, join a conversation, and come meet the author. See back cover for more. • On April 29, Tuckahoe Library will host a Teen Volunteer Fair from 2–3PM. Teens needing volunteer hours to satisfy school requirements or just improve their college application should come learn about library volunteer opportunities—and maybe even win a door prize! • The Digital Media Labs at Libbie Mill, Twin Hickory, and Varina libraries now have open lab hours for you to use the software and equipment on your own—and reservable hours, to have a lab to yourself for recording or filming. Check with the libraries for details.

About this year’s All Henrico Reads featured title An astonishing book from the author of the bestselling memoir The Good Good Pig, The Soul of an Octopus explores the emotional and physical world of the octopus—a surprisingly complex, intelligent, and spirited creature—and the remarkable connections it makes with humans. By turns funny, entertaining, touching, and profound, The Soul of an Octopus ultimately reveals what octopuses can teach us about the nature and consciousness of the mind. You can join one of the many book discussions about The Soul of an Octopus taking place this spring at libraries throughout Henrico. See your library's listings for dates.
