MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR

JUNE WOOD

Wayne Lowrey Executive Vice President at United Community Bank 2018 Chair of Henry County Chamber of Commerce

Your Chamber at Work…

Partners for Progress.

I’m writing this newsletter the week before Father’s Day so I think it appropriate and timely to incorporate my father into this article. He was affectionately known as “Fessor” Lowrey, a teacher for over 30 years at Crawford County High School in Roberta, Georgia. He taught vocational agriculture and was the advisor for the FFA (Future Farmers of America). His passion for teaching and concern for his students influenced many on their career choices. One of the initiatives of the One Henry Program, supported by the Henry County Chamber, is to develop a Center of Education and Entrepreneurship. To Boost Your Business, Improve Customer Service By Cheryl Greenerl If you’re a business owner, you’ve probably heard that standing out from your competition is critical to your company’s success. While most people understand that concept, many businesses fail to put it into practice. Most often, companies in the same industry offer similar products with similar prices. Unless you get a unique deal at wholesale, or have a supplier that no one else knows about, you probably won’t be able to beat your competitors on price or sell anything vastly different. A significant way to stand out from the crowd is not only provide good quality products or services but also, offer a firstrate customer experience. Everything you do should be designed to impress your customers. In many cases, people remember good customer service, even when the product is not unique. If you go the extra mile for them, they’re not likely to forget it. Greet them in a friendly and professional manner and whenever possible, try to personalize their service. Return

CHAMBER BRIEFS Learn about the great things that are happening in our community… Mark Rawlings with Capstone Signs & Graphics was named Ambassador of the Month for May.

Congratulations to Trisha Colpetzer on being awarded the Leadership Henry Class of 2018 Heart of Henry Award. Best wishes to Lydia Pierre who is moving on to other endeavors after serving as the Director of Communications for Henry County Chamber of Commerce for nearly four years. Welcome to Barbara Ingram in her new role as the Director of Communications for the Henry County Chamber of Commerce.

If you are a Chamber member with good news to share, send your logo and/or photo and information to bingram@henrycounty.com and let us spread the word!

Education starts locally We are focusing on education in this issue of HenryCounty.com as we anticipate the new teachers starting during TIP this month, prepare for open houses, and the first day of school at the end of July (where did the summer go?). The education of our young people takes place in many ways – both formal education through our schools, as well as what is learned at home and in life experiences. There is an amazing opportunity for high school sophomores to learn about leadership in their local community through participation in the Chamber’s acclaimed Youth Leadership Henry program. Next luncheon: August 16

After a delicious lunch of pizza and chicken wings provided by 15th Street Pizza & Pub, the May Business Booster Luncheon kicked off with An Introvert’s Guide to Networking. Alisa Kirk, Area Director of Clayton State University, once again grabbed everyone’s attention with her energetic and informative presentation teaching her strategy for successful and rewarding networking. A key technique she uses before each networking opportunity is to ask and answer this series of questions: “Why am I going, who will be there, who am I looking for, and what do I want to happen?” Alisa shared the importance of an opening statement and discussed topics best avoided in a group setting. The presentation ended with the opportunity for attendees to try out their new skills. The exercise had full room engagement
