With that in mind, it is our goal to assist students in the AFJROTC program in their pursuit of a college education. The family of Chance Rodgers would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all the students, staff and supporters of Henley High School and the Klamath Community for attending this memorial event. It is our sincere hope that Chance’s brave fight against cancer will continue to be an inspiration for years to come.
Friday, February 12th Henley High School Gymnasium
Please wear camo in remembrance of Chance For More Information, or to Donate:
All military personnel and their immediate family are welcome to attend free of charge! Also don’t forget to pick up your coupon when you step through the gate for free items from the concession stand!
US Army
Chance Rodgers was a tough, amazing young man, just 15 years old when he passed away on July 9, 2011 after battling bone cancer. Chance never let his situation, where he was, or who he was with control his happiness, or the person he was going to be. There was never defeat in Chance’s eyes. He chose to laugh and find the joke in every circumstance. In Chance’s memory, we have chosen to establish a scholarship fund to provide assistance to a deserving HHS college-bound senior from the AFJROTC. Chance had a dream of being in the military and the AFJROTC program was an important part of his life. He took great pride in being a cadet and wore the uniform with dignity and respectfulness.

An Offer 80 Years in the Making! In 1936, Emil Carlson packed up his wife and sons and all their belongings and moved to Klamath Falls for a nine month upholstery job. 80 years later, the Carlson family is still here and still in the furniture business. Today, Dan and I are the third generation of Carlson’s and now with Eric on staff we’re 4 Generations of Carlson’s Strong. Though a lot has changed over that time, the main thing our parents and grandparents impressed upon us again and again, was to “take care of your customer and your customer will take care of you!” It’s proven itself to be true time after time, over these 57 years our family has been operating Carlson’s Furniture. Now it’s time to once again take care of you, our customers, with an “over-the-top” offer that only Carlson’s can put together!

Tax Time Is ID Theft Season; Get Your Credit Report (NAPS)—It’s tax time again. The Federal Trade Commission notes that onethird of all ID theft complaints it receives are tax related, three times as large as any other type of ID theft. So tax season is a good time to review your personal financial records and ensure they are accurate and there are no unknown or erroneous data in them. One record you’ll want to review is your credit report. It can alert you to accounts that might have been opened by ID thieves. You are entitled to a free annual copy of your credit report from each of the three nationwide credit bureaus: Equifax, Experian and TransUnion. Just go to www. annualcreditreport.com to get your free report. “The credit report gives consumers an excellent comprehensive overview of their outstanding credit obligations,” says Stuart K. Pratt, president and CEO of the Consumer Data Industry Association. “While the lenders and credit bureaus have a number of sophisticated security protocols in place to inhibit identity theft and fraud, there can still be instances where a criminal with access to your personal information—as in the IRS data breach—can result in a problem. Monitor your financial relationships. The credit report is one of the easiest and best ways to do that,” notes Pratt. After you get your credit report, make sure all the accounts are yours. If you see one that you don’t recognize or an account that has an error, contact the credit bureau. You can also contact the creditor or lender that provided the information to the credit bureau and let them know about the issue. In a number of situations, information you provide the credit bureau will be sent to the lender. The lender will verify whether the information is correct or not and then the credit bureau will notify you of the results. If there’s information that needs to be updated, the credit bureau will do so. If it’s a case of identity theft, the credit bureau will work with you to remove the fraudulent information from your file and to place appropriate alerts that can help prevent fraudulent transactions from appearing on your file in the future. Not all data breaches result in identity theft. But it’s always a good practice to be a savvy consumer and check your financial records to make sure that’s the case.

Heart of Steel
You’ll find our namesake Blue Steel Spring at the core of our upholstered seating. Not only does it offer lifetime-guaranteed durability, but it's built to last even longer. Wash your car like a pro to protect its value Vehicle owners know maintaining a vehicle can be a lot of work. Taking the time to properly care for a vehicle can prolong its life expectancy and help owners avoid breakdowns and other issues along the way. Regular washing is an aspect of vehicle maintenance that some may classify as a purely cosmetic benefit. Certainly a car wash can keep the vehicle looking its best, but there are other advantages to washing as well. Washing offers preventative maintenance for the car's paint and can help prevent rust and corrosion resulting from dirt, acid rain and road salt. Rust can compromise hydraulic brake and fuel lines, as well as many moving parts in the chassis and frame. Corrosion of electrical connectors and other parts under the hood can lead to leaks, electrical shorts and a host of additional problems. It's easy to see how washing the car is more essential than one might have suspected. If you live in an area with a high amount of dust or industry, you may need to wash your car as frequently as once a week. Drivers who live along or near coastal areas may need to wash their vehicles frequently to combat sea salt buildup. Garage-kept vehicles may be able to go longer between washes, but in general washing a vehicle every two to three weeks is a good rule of thumb. In addition, a good sealant will protect the paint and other trims throughout

Poets have been putting pen to paper for centuries, and many great works evoke the themes of love and romance. Those will little experience writing their own poetry can always borrow heartfelt words from some of history’s greatest bards.
John Keats Keats was an English Romantic poet who lost both of his parents at a very young age. As Keats grew older, he was introduced to a circle of literary men, including Percy Bysshe Shelly and William Wordsworth. Keats decided to try his hand at poetry as well and went on to publish many poems now considered among the greatest ever written. Tragically, Keats died from tuberculosis at the age of 25. “Bright Star” is one of his famous romantic works.
Bright Star Bright star, would I were stedfast as thou artNot in lone splendour hung aloft the night And watching, with eternal lids apart, Like nature’s patient, sleepless Eremite, The moving waters at their priestlike task Of pure ablution round earth’s human shores, Or gazing on the new soft-fallen mask Of snow upon the mountains and the moorsNo-yet still stedfast, still unchangeable, Pillow’d upon my fair love’s ripening breast, To feel for ever its soft fall and swell, Awake for ever in a sweet unrest, Still, still to hear her tender-taken breath, And so live ever-or else swoon to death.

Browning was already proficient at reading and writing by the age of 5, having studied with his father, a scholar. At an early age the young Browning became interested in poetry but didn’t write much through his formative years. Only after marrying fellow poet Elizabeth Barrett did Browning begin to write in earnest. “Life in a Love” is one of his romantic musings.

Escape me? NeverBeloved! While I am I, and you are you, So long as the world contains us both, Me the loving and you the loth, While the one eludes, must the other pursue. My life is a fault at last, I fear: It seems too much like a fate, indeed! Though I do my best I shall scarce succeed. But what if I fail of my purpose here? It is but to keep the nerves at strain, To dry one’s eyes and laugh at a fall, And baffled, get up to begin again,So the chase takes up one’s life, that’s all. While, look but once from your farthest bound, At me so deep in the dust and dark, No sooner the old hope drops to ground Than a new one, straight to the selfsame mark, I shape meEver Removed!
William Shakespeare It should come as no surprise that the man who wrote the tragic love story of Romeo and Juliet would also prove himself an accomplished poet. “Sonnet 18” is evidence of Shakespeare’s grasp of the theme of love.

Sonnet 18 Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day? Thou art more lovely and more temperate. Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May, And summer’s lease hath all too short a date. Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines, And often is his gold complexion dimm’d; And every fair from fair sometime declines, By chance, or nature’s changing course, untrimm’d; But thy eternal summer shall not fade, Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow’st, Nor shall death brag thou wand’rest in his shade, When in eternal lines to time thou grow’st: So long as men can breathe or eyes can see, So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.

Have a Happy Valentine’s Day! Treat Your Sweetheart to Something Special From Did you know? Valentine’s Day is a time when men and women express their love and affection for one another, which can be accomplished in a variety of ways. For many celebrants, food and beverages are part of the festivities. According to the USDA and Gallup, in the United States Valentine’s Day is the bubbliest occasion after New Year’s Eve and Thanksgiving. That’s because around $9 million is spent on sparkling wine products. What pairs well with that bubbly? Why chocolate, of course. Fifty-eight million pounds of chocolate candy is purchased during the week of Valentine’s Day, when the National Confectioners Association says 36 million heart-shaped boxes of chocolate are sold.

Handling Valentine’s Day when you have diabetes
Celebrating a holiday can be challenging for those with diabetes, as sweet treats are a part of many holiday celebrations. Come Valentine’s Day, chocolates, candy and rich desserts can often be found on the menu, which can prove problematic for those who have to watch their blood-glucose levels. Diabetics may be tempted to indulge in too many sugary foods on Valentine’s Day. Fortunately individuals do not have to put their health in jeopardy in the name of Valentine’s Day, as there are many healthy ways to celebrate with some minor tweaks. · Focus on fun, not food. Rather than making food the focus of the day, shift your attention to all the fun things you can do with your valentine. Fill the day with activities such as ice skating or sightseeing. Even though the weather may be cold, it’s possible to enjoy the great outdoors. Dress appropriately and enjoy a walk in the park, or do something out of the ordinary, like sledding. If you must retreat indoors, watch a romantic movie. · Plan ahead when changing your diet. It’s often possible to work small amounts of a particular dessert or food into your normal meal plan by adjusting what you eat for the rest of the day. If you plan ahead for a bite of chocolate, you can balance out sugar levels by eliminating something else. Keep tabs on your sugar levels throughout the day,
and always weigh the benefits and drawbacks of the foods you eat. · Include smart substitutions. Many favorite foods are available in low-sugar or sugarless varieties that are diabetic-friendly. Lean toward low-carb offerings and foods that are relatively low in fat. Baking your own treats or cooking your own meals will give you greater control over the ingredients used in your recipes, and that can pay big dividends in terms of health. · Send nonfood items into the classroom. Diabetes affects people of all ages. When sending valentines into the class for children, do not accompany the cards with chocolate kisses or other candies. Instead, choose toys or keepsakes, such as heartshaped erasers or scented stickers. Moderation is key when managing diabetes around Valentine’s Day. Place a greater emphasis on time spent together, entertainment and socialization rather than potentially unSweet treats pose a challenge to those with diabetes healthy treats. come Valentine’s Day.

Valentine’s Day flowers can go beyond roses
Valentine’s Day is a great day for florists. According to the National Retail Federation, Valentine’s Day is the No. 1 holiday for florists, as 40 percent of the holiday’s dollar volume goes toward the purchase of fresh flowers. Red roses make for popular Valentine’s gifts. Red is a symbol of love and passion, and red roses have become synonymous with Valentine’s Day. Come February 14, more than half of men and women will shop for red roses, followed by roses of other colors, such as pink, white and mixed colored bouquets. Roses are a fail-safe choice, and many men tend to feel comfortable purchasing roses. That isn’t to say other flowers do not make great gifts. A bouquet or vase full of any of the following types of flowers can be unexpected and unique. · Orchids: Orchids have traditionally been associated with love and beauty. Since orchids look exotic and come in various colors with bold scents, they make a romantic Valentine’s Day gift. Delicate and alluring, orchids are pretty robust plants that grow all over the world. Cut orchids may even last longer than roses.
· French Tulips: French tulips are much larger than typical tulips, so they can look impressive in a floral arrangement. What’s more, French tulip stems continue to grow in the water even after being cut, according to floral industry experts. The stems may twist together in vases, providing something new to see each day. · Hydrangeas: These big, dense balls of flowers are the pom-poms of the floral world. Thanks to the wide array of colors and impressive number of blooms on each plant, they can result in more budgetfriendly bouquets than roses and still provide some eye-catching colors. · Gerbera Daisies: One can’t help but smile at these large and vividly colored blooms. They quickly fill up a vase and can look so pristine a person may actually think they’re silk. A bouquet of deep pinks can be a thoughtful Valentine’s Day offering. · Mixed bouquets: Mixed bouquets enable shoppers to put together several different flowers and get the most bang for their buck. For a cohesive look, ask the florist to stick to one specific color. Purple flowers look regal and may be even more impactful than red roses. Flowers will always be popular on Valentine’s Day, but celebrants need not feel tethered to roses when giving their significant others flowers.
