Snowflake Festival 2010
Wednesday, December 1st 6:30 pm, (doors open at 5:30) Ross Ragland Theater 218 N. 7th Street
Warren Miller’s “Wintervention”
For the third straight year every winter enthusiasts favorite film company is coming back to Klamath Falls to kick off the Annual Snowflake Festival. Warren Miller’s 61st Film, “Wintervention”, will be showing at the Ross Ragland Theater, Wednesday, December 1st at 6:30pm, (doors open at 5:30).
Come early like all Southern Oregon and Northern California winter enthusiasts do and bring your appetite because there will be fun for the whole family. There will be displays, food, beer, wine and a fun intermission with a chance to win some great area prizes. Narrated by skiing icon Jonny Moseley, Warren Miller’s Wintervention features acute cases of classic snow-diction from across the globe. There
are the skiers who sail from Argentina to Antarctica searching for some of the last untouched descents on Earth. There are the skiers and riders who venture deep into the Caucasus Mountains of Georgia, chasing rumors they overheard in a language they don’t speak and there are the skiers who tour far into the northern reaches of the Arctic Circle where they won’t just climb peaks, they’ll get their powder fix at the top of the planet. Featuring everything from terrain parks and liftaccessed fresh powder, to the most exotic settings imaginable, Wintervention is the definitive solution for the snow-obsessed. The national tour of Wintervention is co-sponsored by Corona, Nature Valley, Banff Lake Louise, Cuties, Canon and Ski Magazine. Additional support comes from the Klamath Basin’s best participants including: • Klamath Board Sports • Wubba’s BBQ Shack • Epic Glass Tinting • Hyperlink Studios • Mt. Ashland • Digital Illusions Photography & Design
If you’ve been to a Warren Miller film premier sometime in your life, or if this is your first experience, you’ll see why it is always an adventure, a party, and a phenomenon not to be missed. Check out WarrenMiller.com for more details and come celebrate with us…61 Years of Breaking Trail! Santa will also be attending from 5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. Tickets are only $17 General Admission and available at Klamath Board Sports and the Ross Ragland Theater. Craig Allen Blues Band The Craig Allen Blues Band is one of the regions most popular bands to ever hail from Southern Oregon. The band was first conceived when coworkers at the Collins Products plant, formerly Weyerhaeuser, made their debut together at a Klamath Blues Society Jam. That was nearly 13 years ago...and they have performed at some of the largest blues venues in the U.S. and region sharing the stage with numerous world known blues artists. The Craig Allen Blues Band has long since been supportive of our community and for the last four years has offered a Craig Allen Blues band Scholarship to a pair of OIT students each year. On December 3rd, at the American Legion, we will be setting the stage for another CABB fundraiser for the scholarship program as well as the Gospel Mission. The Legion is offering a dinner and live music from 5:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. featuring blues bands Snowflake Reindeer Scoop Brigade, Close to the Bone, and The Craig Allen Blues Band with an after show jam! Please call the American Legion at (541) 882-0475 for further details.

Outstanding Teen Scholarship Pageant For the fifth year, two queens will reign over the activities of the annual Snowflake Festival. The purpose of the Outstanding Teen Pageant is to provide Klamath County girls ages 13 to 17 the opportunity to win scholarship assistance for their future college educations and to further their personal growth and education. Within this pageant forum, teens are able to enhance their potential by sharpening their leadership, communication and public-speaking skills; to develop poise, confidence and stage presence; and to express their individuality and showcase their unique talents. The pageant is a preliminary to the Miss Oregon’s Outstanding Teen Pageant held in July in Seaside and to the Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Pageant held in Orlando, Florida in August. Contestants compete in the areas of academic achievement, private interview, talent, evening wear, active wear and on-stage questions. They also choose a social issue or a platform, which is a significant aspect of the competition and sends an important message about the importance of community service. To learn about becoming a volunteer, benefactor, or a contestant, please contact: Jann Leeper at 541-882-2849 or email her at director@klamath-county-pageants.org. You can also obtain additional information about the teen program at their website www.klamath-county-pageants. org, the Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Organization at their website located at www.maoteen.org, or the Miss Oregon’s Outstanding Teen program at the website www.missoregonteen.org.

Grand Marshal Lt. Col Lance P. McCuiston
Lt. Col. Lance P. McCuiston is the Commander of the 173d Fighter Wing Civil Engineer Squadron and serves as the Base Civil Engineer and Base Fire Marshal for Kingsley Field, Klamath Falls, Oregon. He has served in this position since 2006. He is responsible for the supervision and oversight of five separate departments, including Civil Engineer Operations, Civil Engineering, Emergency Management, Environmental, and the Fire Emergency Services. His squadron maintains over 70 facilities and provides many services for Kingsley Field and the Klamath Falls Airport including snow removal and Fire and Rescue service. He has helped Kingsley Field gain over $40M in construction over the last 4 years, and an upcoming $20M more in the next 2 years.
Lt. Col. McCuiston entered the United States Air Force in 1992 serving 12 years before joining the Oregon Air National Guard in 2000. He served as an F-15 combat and instructor pilot until 2006. Lt. Col. McCuiston is an active civilian pilot rated as a Certified Flight Instructor and has been flying since he was in high school. He first gained an interest in flying at the age of 16 while visiting with local World War II Veterans around airports where he grew up and flying with them in their vintage airplanes. He is a USAF Command Pilot with more than 3300 hours in military and civilian aircraft including Cessnas, Pipers, T-37, T-38 and the F-15 and has a Masters in Aeronautical Sciences. Lance has always had a desire to support veterans and he has been very active the last few years with our local veterans and community. He enjoys the history of what our World War II Veterans did for this country, and has a special spot in his heart for them. An active volunteer in the community, Lance was the lead project manager and engineer on the construction of the Klamath Falls Veterans Memorial in 2007 for which he received the Klamath County Volunteer First Citizen Award and received accolades from
Congressman Greg Walden. This memorial was built as an honor to all veterans. Most recently in June of 2010 he was the Klamath County project manager for the State dedication of Highway 97 as a World War II Veteran Historic Highway. Lance settled with his family in Klamath Falls in 2000 after falling in love with the area, Kingsley Field, and the community. One thing that drew them was the outstanding faith the community had and the wonderful home town personality. He loves to fish, hunt, work on his ranch, spend time with his family, and volunteer for veteran and children’s events. He has been married to his wife Gina for 17 years and has 3 children; Madison – 12, Sarah – 10, and Austin – 7. Interestingly, one of the first people they met and grew close to was Mrs. Margaret Howard, whose husband was the founder of the Snowflake Festival. Lance was pleased to learn that the Snowflake Parade was designated over 27 years ago to take place in the first week of December to coincide with Pearl Harbor Day.
Lt. Col. McCuiston is involved with many organizations, including the United Way, Veterans’ of Foreign Wars, American Legion, 4H, Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, Triad School, BBC and the Oregon Hunters Association. He also coaches Klamath Basin kids soccer and serves as a volunteer on the Klamath Falls Veterans Memorial Committee.

After six years of hard work, dedication and perseverance Stephenie accomplished a life-long dream when crowned Miss Oregon and now has the privilege of representing the state she loves at the Miss America Pageant in January 2011. Stephenie graduated from Oregon Institute of Technology in 2009 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Dental Hygiene, many thanks to the $18,000 in scholarships received from participation in the Miss Oregon Program. As Miss Oregon, Stephenie has earned an additional $13,000 to pursue her graduate education and a $50,000 scholarship earmarked specifically for dental school. Stephenie currently serves as Lead Hygienist at Aloha Dental and has career aspirations of becoming a dentist. Stephenie has always been passionate about civil service. Over the past six years she has been involved with many varied organizations including Northwest Medical Teams International, Relay for Life, Klamath County’s Citizens for Safe Schools, Friends of the Children, Rogue Valley’s Children’s Dental Clinic, the North Medford Buddy Program and Character Counts. As Miss Oregon 2010, Stephenie will spotlight three particular important issues: promoting greater scholarship assistance for young women pursuing higher education through the Miss America Organization, supporting the wonderful work of Children’s Miracle Network, and educating Americans about the vital services of the National Human Trafficking Resource Center. The center offers a hotline for concerned citizens 24 hours-aday/365 days-a-year, emphasizing that where there is a need or concern regarding human trafficking, help and resources are always available. Stephenie is especially committed to shedding light on the horrors of modern day slavery, as well as spreading awareness about the help and hope available to those afflicted.

Thursday, December 9th 8:30pm – 10:30pm Contemporary Arts Kitchen 811 Main St.
Family Friendly Rock Concert
The Contemporary Arts Kitchen is pleased to host a local favorite for a concert after the Snowflake Festival Parade! The 8th Street Band will headline at the Contemporary Arts Kitchen directly after the Snowflake Parade on December 9th, 2010. The 8th Street Band was formed by a group of friends playing in the basement of Lead Vocalist Bobby Langfield, who just so happens to live on 8th Street. It changed from jam sessions of friends to a full blown band that enjoys putting a new twist on some of your favorite rock songs. Recently, they have begun recording and making original songs. They hope to have some of those songs posted on their facebook page by the end of the year (www.facebook.com/8thstreetband).

Throughout high school, Sean’s musical tastes and talents evolved as he began playing with various bands and other local musicians in his area. By the time he graduated,
Sean had become a proficient guitar, bass, drums, and keyboard player, both as a solo musician and as a member of several local bands. After studying jazz guitar at a small college in New England, Sean moved back to Chicago, where he spent time gigging in and around the city playing folk, rock, jazz, and fusion with other like-minded musicians. Sean has lived in Klamath Falls for two years now, and his style as a solo musician can be described as a mixture of folk, jazz, and indie music.

The performance of Handel’s Messiah is scheduled for Sunday, December 12, at 7pm, at Peace Memorial Presbyterian Church at 4431 South Sixth Street in Klamath Falls. The community SATB chorus and chamber orchestra will be performing under the direction of James Hurst. The performance will include the traditional first part of the Messiah, together with The Trumpet Shall Sound followed
The Messiah
by the familiar Hallelujah Chorus. The production will include the orchestral overture and Pastoral Symphony together with recitatives, solos, and choruses based on the Advent, the season leading up to the birth of Christ. The Hallelujah Chorus in noted as one of the most stirring pieces of music ever written. Amid shouts of “Hallelujah!” the chorus celebrates God’s omnipotence, the arrival of His kingdom on earth, and His everlasting reign.
The performance of the Messiah brings to life the true spirit of Christmas. It has been performed in houses across the world to remind people of the original reason for the holiday. There is no cost to attend the performance; however a free-will offering will be collected at that time to both cover the costs associated with the performance and help our community’s local charities.
