Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation

After a heart attack, heart failure or angioplasty or other heart surgery, cardiac rehabilitation provides the support, education and training for how to live a healthy lifestyle. This may include diet and exercise changes, practical methods of reducing stress and general counseling as you adjust to your personal health situation.

Pediatric Rehabilitation

Our pediatric rehab specialists translate the same important concepts, exercises and lessons for adult rehab into kid-friendly and age-appropriate interactions. Fulton County Medical Center helps children of all ages adapt to physical changes or mental disabilities and navigate the recovery process with a positive attitude.

Physical Therapy

Physical therapy is widely used to treat chronic pain and recover from traumatic sports- or car-related injuries. Our physical therapists will design a recovery program for you based on the nature of your injury, the type of pain and your current limitations to work toward a full range of motion and an active lifestyle.

Occupational Therapy

Physical or mental disabilities can impede your ability to do basic daily tasks, but occupational therapy can help patients build or recover funda

mental skills for independence. This can include teaching and practicing tasks commonly needed to get ready in the morning, eat, shower and do simple functions at work.

Speech Therapy

Fulton County Medical Center speech therapists can address various communication issues in patients of all ages, from language disorders to articulation and clarity.

ADVANCED WORK REHAB is a comprehensive rehab program that address all aspects of work injury, including: prevention, rehabilitation and return to work services.

The occupational therapy department at FCMC is available to you during your hospital or swing bed admission, during a stay in LTC, through outpatient services or as a home health patient. Our dedicated and compassionate staff are here to help you and your family begin to Live Life to the Fullest.

The occupational therapy department is dedicated to the prevention and supported healing of upper extremity injuries, diminished performance in daily routines and is skilled in splint fabrication and education. The OT department skillfully identifies area of deficit and provides a detailed plan to improve your function, decrease pain and enhance your overall quality of life. The occupational therapy department also provides modification recommendations and adaptive strategy training to those with permanent limitations to allow them to maintain the function and independence that they desire.

Speech Therapy

The speech-language pathologists (also called speech therapists) at FCMC provide therapy for children and adults whose ability to communicate or swallow might have been affected by injury or illness. We pride ourselves in providing the most current treatment for individuals with communication impairments, cognitive-communication, swallowing or voice limitations. Our skilled speech-language pathologists provide the best care for your needs while remaining aware of the sensitivity that some of us feel regarding these issues.

Modified Barium Swallow Study

MBS studies are available as on outpatient speech therapy participant when ordered by your physician. The purpose of the study is to identify the cause of difficulty or impairments with swallowing. Your study at FCMC will be completed in the radiology department, with the radiologist and speech and language pathologist present. Once the assessment is complete, the therapist will use that information in developing your continued treatment plan.

Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (Vital Stim)

This treatment intervention is utilized for patients who have trouble swallowing (dysphagia). It uses small electrical currents to stimulate the muscles responsible for swallowing, while speech-language pathologists help patients re-educate their muscles through rehabilitation therapy.

What Are the Benefits of Cardiac Rehabilitation?

• Reduce your overall risk of dying, the risk of future heart problems and the risk of dying from a heart attack. • Decrease pain and the need for medicines to treat heart or chest pain. • Lessen the chance that you’ll have to go back to the hospital or emergency room for a heart problem. • Improve your overall health by reducing your risk factors for heart problems • Improve your quality of life and make it easier for you to work, take part in social activities, and exercise.

Swing Bed Program REHABILITATION SERVICES

When needed, our team of physical, occupational, and speech therapists will complete a comprehensive evaluation and create an individualized treatment plan for you based on your needs which could include: strength and balance training, mobility, ADL’s (dressing, bathing, kitchen activities), swallowing difficulties and/or memory deficits.

What is Swing Bed?

Swing bed is a team used to describe a federal program that allows FCMC, as well as other rural hospitals the ability to keep you in the hospital longer when your doctor feels you are not ready for discharge. This allows you to receive needed therapy and/or nursing care to help you prepare for home.

Who is eligible for Swing Bed?

Three areas you need to consider for eligibility: • In most cases you must have a three day hospital stay before consideration for the swing bed program (stay can be at FCMC or another hospital) • Pre-approval by your insurance company • You must have a qualifying illness/surgery

• Postsurgical recovery • Fracture Recovery • Neurologic Progression needing therapy • Comprehensive Medication Management • IV therapy/Central Line/PICC • New feeding issues (PEG tube placement or TPN) • Pain management • Diabetic Management
