Facebook @tristeneverett12 IG @moedartokc “To paint is to feel, and I’m feeling all the time.”-T I woke up one day with this vision of hiking Robber’s Cave and painting on tall Ridge. I hiked 2 miles or so up to the highest Ridge, but what was fascinating was the amount of people who were smiling and in somewhat awe of what I set out to do, all were encouraging. I knew I was in the right place. I used parts of nature to bring this into my reality, brush, twigs, I even painted parts of this with my feet. Cannabis is always a big help and inspiration. For this piece, because of the terrain, I knew I needed something. I chose Ice Cream Cake, great for the hike itself, happy go lucky and pain relief! I had the time of my life!!! When you love yourself just enough, it’s amazing what starts to happen in your life. Please support your local artists visions and efforts by purchasing your favorites and spreading the word.

There’s a constant battle within me between my expectations and reality.

It’s been pointed out to me several moments in my life. It seems as if I want more than what is possible. Even as a child. Not in a direct way. So subtle that everyone can hear it if they simply listen. We know it as resistance. As a child I knew it as, “that’s just the way it is.” Returning from digression… If you’ve ever been “stood-up” you will understand there is a deep gut feeling of loss and near derangement that the “standup” victim must process. Most of us fail to process. But it all comes out in the wash right? That gut-check feeling comes from somewhere. It’s because those expectations were never met. Now amp that up. More... Keep going… In my head I tend to see what is possible by looking at what is physically possible rather than taking into account the mental capacity of those who would be carrying out those tasks. For example as a child I looked at money in chunks. I could not for the life of me understand how my parents struggled. I would compute the math in my head. It was simple moving parts of a puzzle. I traveled down the river of thought flowing through my small head. I never thought of the time it would take to feed and clothe three children. The stress involved. The overwhelming thought of what is coming next cripples some. Yet, my head says it can be done. It’s the same with friends and family. The expectations are there. It makes perfect sense to me. Yet there’s always that something called the human element. If you are like me you have tried to battle this. Constantly. Let me give you a word of advice. Stop. Just stop fighting the fact that you will always have higher expectations than others. The key is figuring out how to recognize when you are doing it and is it being done in a healthy way. In my world it usually begins with the tragic moment right after the initial announcement of any kind of news or change in plans where I panic. Step 1. Step back Step 2. Toss in some meds Step 3. Realize that my expectations are not going to be met Step 4. Figuring out a way to move forward In the past I would drink that away. Bury it down there so I didn’t have to deal with it. Luckily, without that with which my operating system did not agree, I am able to take these new steps to manage those thoughts. The thoughts that become the corkscrews in my head.

On April 19th, 1943, at precisely 4:20pm (I know, right?), Hofmann dosed himself with ten times the amount he had absorbed through his skin just days prior. Tyler Dodd Rides The Wind by Michael Kinney
In 2020 Tyler Dodd found himself sitting face to face with boxing legend Mike Tyson in Los Angeles. At the time Tyson was training for his comeback exhibition fight against Roy Jones Jr., but was carving out time from his schedule to meet with Dodd. Dodd, who is the CEO of Arco Bellum, was brought in to meet with the iconic boxer to pitch him on how he could help Tyson Ranch, a packaging and licensing company founded by Mike Tyson, find a home in Oklahoma. However, there was a problem. According to Dodd, there was a mix-up and his meeting hadn’t been scheduled and the executives who run Tyson Ranch had no idea why Dodd was there. According to Dodd, the pitch he and his team had worked on for days was all but forgotten. As he put it, he was choking in what may have been the biggest moment of his business career. “My entire team put in a lot of hours on this pitch, we did a very elaborate pitch with slides and graphic designs. It was very personalized for Tyson Ranch,” Dodd said. “I just instantly choked. I didn’t know what to say, I didn’t know what to talk about.” That is when Dodd fell back on what he knows best. He started to tell the room of his life journey and the remarkable tale of how he was not supposed to even be alive right then. “I just started to talk about my story,” Dodd said. “That’s really all I had in my tool belt in that moment. “I’m completely aware of absolutely absurd my story is. I’ve seen it all. It’s the wildest thing you’ve ever heard. I say this not with ego, but disbelief. I don’t know if I’ve ever heard a story, fiction or non-fiction that compares to mine.” Dodd was born and raised in and around Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Early on in life he quickly found he was drawn to the street life. Dodd said by the time he was 15, he had the makings of being a really talented boxer. However, he was still living the street life and everything that went along with it. “I couldn’t really get separated from it,” Dodd said. “I ended up, like a lot of people, a causality of the opioid epidemic. It started off with prescription pain meds back when I was 15. By the time I was 21, I was completely homeless, living under bridges, shooting heroin.” Dodd said a major turning point in his life came in 2002 when his father died of Cancer. The family was so engrained in poverty, they didn’t have the money for his cremation. “That is when it went downhill,” Dodd said. “I was certain I was going to die on streets.” Dodd said starting in 2003, for almost a decade, his existence was that of a homeless man and drug addict on the streets. From Oklahoma to Florida, he was living day to day panhandling for money to get his next high. “That was my existence,” Dodd said. “I thought I was going to die like that way.”
Then, in 2011, Dodd was sent to prison in North Carolina veterans. for obtaining narcotics by fraud. He was locked up close to a year before being let out. Instead, Dodd was told he just needed to go back to the halfway house and tell the truth. During that year, Dodd said he had been clean of drugs But even that seemed too much for Dodd. and started seeing resemblances of his former self. “I told him I won’t tell the new lie anymore, but if I go and Unfortunately for Dodd, he didn’t find himself any better tell these guys, then they are going to beat me up,” Dodd situation than when he went in. said. “I will be kicked out of the house and I will be homeless again.” “They let you out of prison and they put me on a bus right The sponsor told him to pray for willingness and he did. back down to Florida,” Dodd said. “I was 30 years old and going right back into that life without a choice. I didn’t Three days later, it was April 11th and he still hadn’t told have options. There weren’t any options for someone like the residents at the halfway house about his lie when he left me. That is when I realized it was next to impossible for that morning to look for work. It just happened to be the someone who is chronically in this position to get out of same day of the Boston Marathon and Dodd said he found it.” himself near the finish line when everything went crazy. Dodd decided he needed a change of scenery. He hustled up some money and bought a bus ticket to Daytona Beach from Miami. Once he got on the Greyhound, he noticed the final destination was Boston, Ma.
“I heard the bombs go off,” Dodd said. “It turned my stomach. I noticed a police officer standing across the street and her reaction after listening to her radio, I could tell something bad had happened.”
Instead of getting off in Daytona, he stayed in his seat and rode the Greyhound all the way up to Boston. Yet, while his surroundings changed, Dodd’s way of life didn’t. He continued to be homeless and a heroin addict. The only difference is the winter months made his existence that much worse. After a year of living that way, Dodd decided to take advantage of state-funded treatment programs that Massachusetts offers.
Dodd told the officer he had EMT basic training with an emphasis on mass causality from when he was 18. She told him to go to 800 Boylston street because “they are going to need all the help they can get.”
He said he went to detox for the first time. It was the first of several trips there as I tried to get clean.
According to Dodd, there was just one other guy running toward the bomb site. He turned out to be an emergency room doctor and drafted Dodd to be an extra set of hands for him. While working in the marathon’s medical tent, Dodd’s life was about to change, but he didn’t know it.
“I came across a girl and actually thought she was dying in Finally, in 2013, Dodd said he found some success and got front of me,” Dodd said. “She was white and had a tournisober. However, the state couldn’t find him a bed in a half- quet on her leg. She was terrified.” way house. The then 20-year-old lady was Victoria McGrath and she “I knew this was my last chance,” Dodd said. “I had been had been standing five feet away from where the first bomb homeless for 10 years. But in order to help calm Not wanting to go back to living on the streets, Dodd said down McGrath, he told her the scar on his arm came he brought back to life a lie he had been using when he shrapnel he had received in during military service in Afwas homeless and panhandling in San Antonio. He told ghanistan. officials he had been in the military. “I ended up in a halfway house for veterans. They let me in without having to show my discharge papers,” Dodd said. “I was there for a few weeks when a guy came to speak. For whatever reason, I identified with him. I don’t what it was, I asked him to be my sponsor. That’s kind of what you do with these 12 step programs. He ended up taking me through the steps and for the first time I told him I was never in the military. I was just a junkie trying to live.” Dodd was expecting his new sponsor to be grossed out by the revelation. He knew how serious it was to impersonate
‘I told her I bled worse than she did and I know the tourniquet hurts. You are going to have a scar like mine, but you are going to live,” Dodd said he told her. “I felt immediately guilty for lying about being in the military again. When I was done, I went back to the halfway house kind of shook. It was a pretty crazy experience.” It turned out McGrath was the daughter of a pair of wealthy IBM executives who had connections with the state’s democratic party. Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick visited McGrath in the hospital and asked what he could do for her. The only thing she wanted was to find this war hero named Tyler who saved her life. During his national press conference that night, Patrick asked for the veteran named Tyler to come forward and be recognized. After speaking with his sponsor, Dodd called the number Patrick had provided the media and told them he was the one they were looking for. When the local media arrived, Dodd told them he wasn’t in the military, but he wasn’t able to tell them why he lied about it. It wasn’t until the next night when Dodd went on a series of different TV shows that he was able to tell his story and explain how the lie came about. That included the Today Show, ABC World News and the Pierce Morgan show twice. “He wasn’t a combat soldier in Afghanistan — he wasn’t in combat,” McGrath told NBC News . “I don’t regret it — I don’t regret him telling me that, and I hope he doesn’t either. I hope he’s proud of it.” During Dodd’s last appearance with Pierce Morgan, Morgan told Dodd he had a feeling he would not be unemployed much longer. Morgan was right. Dodd’s decision to run toward danger and to help others during the Boston Marathon bombing completely altered the direction of his life. “It changed my life for sure,” an emotional Dodd said. “It’s crazy how everything happened the way it did. It’s absurd. It changed every aspect of my life. My family has been in generations of poverty since the trail of tears. Not only did it change my life, but potentially change the lives of generations in my family. It’s a heavy thought.” Dodd went on to work at a radio station in Boston before getting an opportunity to move back to Oklahoma with his daughter where he was making $200,000 a year selling cars. He said it was impossible not to be grateful because for much of his life, he would have been grateful just to have had a car to sleep in. Dodd went through a downturn in 2017 and said he lost his mojo and couldn’t sell cars anymore. He was on the verge of filing for bankruptcy and selling his house.
Dodd is living the dream life he never imagined was in store for him. He is hanging out with celebrities, training with the same boxing coach that trains Tyson and traveling the country in style just a few years removed from living under a bridge and not knowing where his next meal was coming from. When he looks back on where he came from and what he has gone through, he knows it’s an amazing story. “I’m just blown away this is my life,” Dodd said. “I never would have guessed this. Not in a million years. If would have asked me to write down everything I dream of three years, I would have sold myself short.” But while he is making sure to enjoy the new life, Dodd said he will never forget those who have not been as fortunate. And as much as he is invested in building his brand “That is when State Question 788 came up,” Dodd said. “I and businesses, he is just as, if not more focused on those said there is no way this is going to pass. My family has who are still living the life he left behind. been cultivating cannabis in Oklahoma for three generations. So I was like I know how to grow weed. And the law “With the miraculous nature of my story, it would be a slap passed and the licenses were only $2,500 and they allowed in the face to whatever orchestrator you want to call it for fucking felons to get them.” me to not drag some other people out of the mud,” Dodd said. “There is a huge portion of me when I was homeless After a slow start in the business that saw him losing most that felt I wasn’t valuable. I believe I didn’t have anything to of the money from his investors, Dodd decided to gamble offer. I think it’s important that there are voices that can tell it all on the belief he could make it big in this new and these people there are so much more out there. Everybody growing industry. has something they can offer.” Dodd got his hands on $5,000 to get 11 entries in the High Times Cannabis Cup, which was coming to Oklahoma for the first time in 2019. Dodd walked away with four awards, including Best Hybrid Flower with Emerald Wholesale. That led to an invitation to a celebrity Madden 20 event that Snoop Dogg was hosting during Superbowl weekend. After Snoop posted a photo of the two hanging out. Dodd was solidified in the industry. Dodd quickly went on to co-found Arca Bellum in 2020 with Zeke Newsom. Its mission is to ‘collaborate with operators throughout all the investment and fundraising stages. To understand the type of companies and we tend to work with, take a look at some of our current and past partnerships.’ Arco Bellum struck big deals with Cookies and some of the biggest names in cannabis. That is what led Dodd to not only getting to know Tyson, but also become a business parter as Tyson Ranch expanded into Oklahoma late last year. “With this being one of the hottest cannabis markets in the United States, it was a no-brainer to partner with Tyson Ranch to bring the best in health and wellness to the cannabis community in Oklahoma,” Dodd said. “It’s an honor to be able to partner with Mike and his team, and to help them execute their plans to expand into this new market.”

A revolutionary cannabis company specializing in Organic and sustainable practices. The very term “Hermetic” has its very roots in Ancient Greece as well as Ancient Egypt. Hermeticism is based upon and attributed to the teachings of Hermés Trismegistus, a sage based sometime around late antiquity. The very translation of the Hermetic corpus is what boosted The Italian renaissance. People such as Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo were heavily influenced by this philosophical treat. Alchemy sprang forth from these ideologies, giving birth to modern day chemistry, Science, and Western thought. This art form was then transformed into the profane, taking away its very essence, the spiritual wisdom needed to change lead (material spirit) into gold (Sun source or pure spirit). The works of Giordano Bruno, Italian Alchemist and influencer of Carl Sagan’s “Cosmos”, were stumbled upon by mixing Hermetic philosophy with Moroccan hashish...Proclaiming a Heliocentric model and that the universe was many infinite universes. This later had him burned at the cross. It is our belief that by ditching profane science and making our way back to spiritual alchemy, that we are to become one with ourselves and the plant. It is our mission to mix spiritual philosophy with craft cannabis to bring the holy trinity of healing; which is the mind, the body, and the soul. There’s absolutely no questions pertaining around cannabis NOT being a valuable medicine for physical and mental ailments...but what about the spiritual sense? The taboo nature of man itself which raises such questions of, “ why am I here? What are we doing here? What does it mean to be alive” all these have meaning and are being acted upon within the garden of the Hermetic Flower Co. We focus on maintaining a standard of medicine that’s unheard of in the state let alone the south. What else makes hermetic so special? They’re not only organic, living soil....they also make their own compost, on site, via vermicompost, AKA worm POOP! Using a specially formulated worm diet, Alex, the Director of cultivator and science, is able to influence the metaphysical properties of the body; specifically the seven chakras or seven alchemical planets through watering the compost in through a process known as ACT or Aerated compost tea.
This adds the beneficial microbiology and fungi from the high quality compost into the raised beds that team ALPACA cultivate out of. After the tea is complete, we then close the loop by disposing of the waste back into the Vemicompost bins where the process starts all over again. A full life and death cycle and we haven’t even touched on the plants yet!! Alex and his team of Alpacs, plant and harvest around the cycles of the moon. “Nothing on the planet can move water like the moon can” As the Moon influences the water in the plant, we see it as a prime time to harvest and flip our plants into flowers. Even though an indoor grow, it’s important to remember that we’re dealing with nature and respecting and understanding the cycles of nature is of the utmost importance to us. We are also in a vertical rack cultivation system meaning we cultivate on multiple levels instead of just on the ground floor. It allows us to maximize our cubic volume, which is how cannabis grows anyways, through cubic volume! Finally, our last attempt at trying our best to maintain efficiency and sustainability is using LED technology. LEDs make for a more efficient lighting source in the way that it disperses heat, it allows for excess humidity while consuming less power and allows you to manipulate the amount of photons that hit the canopy. This in combination with VPD or vapor pressure deficit, allows us to manipulate and influence our environment to mimic that of the Nepal Mountain ranges; where we believe landrace, heavy medicine comes from. We want to bring out those genetic expressions through each individual cultivar we carry. The Hermetic Flower Company isn’t just a cannabis company, it’s a cannabis lifestyle. From Italian Renaissance smoking Alchemist to every day spiritual seekers the philosophy, integrity and consistency of this company will have you thinking, feeling, and smelling LOUD!

Kind Origins Cannabis by Anna Ervin HERBAGE MAGAZINE When Camron Owens began growing cannabis in his home garage during the early days of Oklahoma legalization, he knew he had found his calling. “I’ve been supporting cannabis since 2015 or so, and I just love the product. I love the plant.” With a little help from his Dad, Camron transformed a 1,600 square foot shop in his own backyard into a proper grow facility. Complete with two grow rooms, and later expanding to over 2,000 square feet, this shop became the initial headquarters for his crew to truly hone-in on their craft. Camron and his team quickly realized they had a great opportunity on their hands, and started making plans for the future of Kind Origins Cannabis. “I was in operation over there for about 2 years,” Camron reported, “and I sold that company to fund this place.” “We came into this building in February of 2020 and have had plants in the building since around June.” Camron’s wife, Jo informed me, “and we’re just getting started on month-tomonth harvest.” I had arrived just in time to see the Kind Origins crew harvest one of their most medicinal strains, Strawberry Slurpee. When I asked what makes this bud so special, the team reported personal experiences that ranged from pain and muscle relief to “a clear headed high for focus.” “Lab testing reflects diverse terpene content,” Camron informed me, “accounting for its delicious aroma. Some of the more common terpenes like limonene, linalool, and terpinolene are used to treat depression, anxiety and prevent infection.” “However,” he continued, “what makes Strawberry Slurpee really stand out is the presence of more exotic terpenes, like nerol and valencene, which may help with cell regeneration, acne and sun damage. Farnesene is known as a muscle relaxer, while humulene offers anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, and anti-cancer properties. Rich terpene content paired with over 20% THC content makes for effective medicine.” It’s nearly impossible to find a strain of can-
nabis that offers a “one size fits all” type of relief. Walking through the KOC facility, I couldn’t help but admire how unique each plant was to the next. As Camron showed off their temp beds, holding nearly 3-week-old plants, he pointed out the distinct difference in appearance between strains that had been transplanted just 2 days apart. I wondered, if each genetic has it’s own unique appearance, smell, and medicinal qualities, would the challenges they faced growing them vary as well? “Strawberry Slurpee is a bit of a low yielder for a strain we would run over and over again,” Camron told me. “The KOC staff made a conscious decision to continue to cultivate this strain, despite those lower yields, because it is excellent medicine.” “It has a delicious strawberry flavor, beautiful finish, and potent aroma—we feel it’s one of the best dessert strains on the market. We get enough positive feedback that it will be on our roster indefinitely.” I’ll be honest, it was hard to take my eyes off of what was left of Strawberry Slurpee in the grow room, but one bed of plants in particular managed to steal a little bit of that spotlight—Mimosa boasted colors that reminded me of the kind of sunrise you might wake up to amidst the earliest hours of dawn. “It really does smell like a mimosa,” Camron was excited to share, “it’s delicious. I’ve been using cannabis for a long time, and I just grow the healers.” As we continued through the building, I noticed that the Kind Origins facility had a lot of space for growth. “The new building is 22k square feet,” Ops manager Curtis Wilson explained, “with acreage earmarked for future outdoor projects. The indoor renovation is about 50% complete.” “We have products in around 60 different dispensaries across the state,” he continued. “Right now, what we produce, we sell out of.” With plans to complete their indoor renovations, build outdoor light depravation greenhouses, and expand their processing from pre-rolls to concentrate extraction, I look forward to seeing where Kind Origins Cannabis takes their operation in the coming years. Hot Flash! by Dondi Cobb
Just a few months ago, the North American Menopause Society (NAMS) released exciting results from a new study of menopausal women and their treatment of choice for their worse symptoms. It seems women today are choosing, more often, to relieve the harsh symptoms of menopause with cannabis than other, more traditional ways, such as hormone replacement therapy. One in four, to be exact. But that wasn’t the biggest surprise I found while researching this story. While testing as post-menopausal, I personally have never experienced any symptoms of menopause. I don’t know why. I consider some of the trauma that occurred in my life during those years. Maybe I just got a pass. I dealt with the death of my mother and husband. I suffered two heart attacks. I was not sitting around waiting for a hot flash. When asked to write this story, considering this part of life had been a blur, I started scouring the web for the symptoms of menopause, figuring I would see potential uses for cannabis in these ailments. The list was fairly well known to me, hot flashes, insomnia, mood swings, body aches, vaginal dryness, loss of sex drive and, well, pretty much the common signs of aging. I could definitely see how cannabis could help with all except the biggie, hot flashes. The most common complaint I’ve heard concerning menopause is hot flashes. How could cannabis possibly help here? To understand how cannabis helps with hot flashes, we must first understand our endocannabinoid system, which I know very little about. However, I do know that each of us possess one. Apparently, estrogen is a part of our endocannabinoid system (ECS). Somewhere along the line, God must have thought, I’ll throw this one in for the ladies. Thank you!
KrystalKlean.us We all have estrogen, and my understanding is, as we age and go through menopause, our estrogen levels lower. So, our ECS, that is scattered throughout our bodies and holds estrogen, has receptors that THC binds to, or seems to recharge. It’s complicated. So complicated, that we are just beginning to scratch the surface of the potential health benefits of this healing plant. But it’s certain, something is going on. For over two years, I‘ve moonlighted at a medical marijuana doctor’s clinic, Skyping with doctors, meeting and uploading patients. I’ve met a fair representation of Oklahoma patients and the majority are aging, educated and looking for less harmful alternatives to their growing list of pharmaceuticals. When applying cannabis to the symptoms of menopause, it seems we have most covered and the majority of health experts agree that a combination of cannabis and hormone therapy may be even better. One thing is certain, every woman is different and the secret to discovering the magic mixture that works best for you is trial and error. It’s very well known that the most common uses for cannabis are pain and insomnia. Therefore, it would be reasonable to believe cannabis would be beneficial for these menopausal symptoms. Cannabis is also commonly used for the treatment of depression and anxiety, mood swings. Topicals work in a different way but are a wonderful option to help with vaginal dryness. I make a secret potion that, when used correctly, will light your fire, ladies. It is seriously Viagra for women. And, now that I’ve learned the secret to unleashing natural estrogen in my body, hot flashes can be addressed. Whether you choose to smoke or use other forms, menopause symptoms are very easily and successfully treated with cannabis. If your health care provider cannot see the benefits and recommend cannabis as a safe, alternative option, find someone who is educated on the wonderful benefits of this amazing plant.
Oklahoma’s Medical Marijuana Program
2021 LEGISLATION STILL IN PLAY by Sarah Lee Gossett Parrish - Cannabis Lawyer Earlier this year I provided an introduction to some of the more substantive bills filed in the Oklahoma House and Senate pertaining to Oklahoma’s Medical Marijuana Program. What follows are highlights concerning the more important bills that now have been passed by the legislative body in which they originated, and have been referred to legislative committees in the other, non-originating legislative body. HOUSE BILLS PASSED AND SENT TO SENATE Highlights of the provisions included in several bills passed by the Oklahoma House of Representatives, sent to the Senate and referred to a Senate Committee, include, but are not limited to the following. House Bill 2272 House Bill 2272 creates the Cap on Medical Marijuana Businesses Act of 2021. It passed the House on March 10, 2021, and has been sent to the Senate, where it passed in the Business, Commerce and Tourism Committee and is now under consideration by the Senate Appropriations Committee. Notably, this bill provides for a two-year cap on OMMA dispensary, processor, and commercial grower licenses beginning September 1, 2021, and ending September 1, 2023. The bill caps those licenses “at the total number of licenses active in each category as of September 1, 2021, combined with the total number of applications pending in each category with the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority which were submitted prior to September 1, 2021. In order to determine the final amount of authorized medical marijuana dispensary licenses, medical marijuana processor licenses and medical marijuana commercial grower licenses in this state, the Authority shall first process all pending applications for each license category received prior to September 1, 2021, and add that number to the total number of active licenses in each category as of September 1, 2021.” This bill also allows for submission of a commercial business license application without a Certificate of Compliance (“CoC”), giving each applicant one hundred eighty days from the date of a provisional license approval (available without the CoC) to submit the required CoC to OMMA. The bill calls for an automatic reduction in the number of dispensary licenses, such reduction to be based on the number of medical marijuana dispensary licenses surrendered, canceled or otherwise terminated, until such time as the total number of active medical marijuana dispensary licenses is equal in number to two thousand, beginning September 1, 2021, and ending September 1, 2023. House Bill 2646 House Bill 2646 clarifies the duties of OMMA. It was sent to the Senate on March 15, where it has been referred to the Senate Appropriations Committee after passing in the Senate Business, Commerce and Tourism Committee. House Bill 2004 House Bill 2004 concerns licensing, taxes, and also clarifies OMMA’s duties and functions. It passed the House and has been referred to the Senate Business, Commerce and Tourism Committee. Notably, this bill allows patients with medical marijuana licenses to legally possess twelve mature plants instead of the current cap of six mature plants. It also provides for a temporary patient license for residents of other states, and seals all patient and caregiver records and information to protect privacy, specifically providing that “such records shall not be shared with any other state agency or political subdivision without a warrant”. 22
House Bill 2674 House Bill 2674 would transfer the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority to the Alcoholic Beverage Laws Enforcement Commission. This bill passed the House and was referred to the Senate, where it has been assigned to the Public Safety Committee and then to the Appropriations Committee. If passed by the Senate and signed into law, it would mandate significant changes to Oklahoma’s existing medical marijuana system. SENATE BILLS PASSED AND SENT TO HOUSE Highlights of the provisions included in several Oklahoma Senate bills that have been passed and referred to the state House of Representatives include the following. Senate Bill 459 Senate Bill 459 addresses workplace drug and alcohol procedures and modifies safety-sensitive positions, including additional rights of medical marijuana patients. The bill also modifies definitions of “batch number”, “cannabinoid”, “clone”, “caregiver” and “child-resistant” packaging (among others). It also adds “volunteers” to the classification of individuals who serve in safety-sensitive positions and may be subject to a workplace drug and alcohol testing policy. The bill was referred to the House Business and Commerce Committee on March 22, 2021. Senate Bill 1033 Senate Bill 1033 amends language contained in State Question 788 to protect medical marijuana license holders from discrimination under certain circumstances by schools, landlords, and employers. Significantly, this bill also prohibits municipalities from unduly changing or restricting zoning laws to prevent the opening of dispensaries. The bill grandfathers-in certain licensed locations, clarifies how to measure the 1000-foot setback distance required for dispensaries from any public or private school entrance, and allows license transfers under certain conditions. It has been assigned to the House Alcohol, Tobacco, and Controlled Substances Committee. Senate Bill 522 Senate Bill 522 requires the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority to contract with one or more third-party vendors to provide certain licensing services for medical marijuana education facility licensees, medical marijuana business licensees and employees of such entities. This bill passed the Senate and has been referred to the House Alcohol, Tobacco, and Controlled Substances Committee. So…what’s the take-away? Stay tuned! There may be some significant changes in Oklahoma’s Medical Marijuana System by May 2021! CBD for Pets by Anna Ervin HERBAGE MAGAZINE
With more and more people turning to CBD products to not only cure their own ailments, but also those of their pets, I thought it might be a good time to discuss the topic. I’ve actually been using CBD products to help manage my dog’s anxiety for years now. She’s a 15lb mini Australian Shepherd with the biggest heart, but an even bigger fear of loud noises. For years, I haven’t been able to leave my house on the Fourth of July, fearful that she will literally scratch her way through the drywall, or hurt herself in the process. Thunderstorms are even worse because we rarely see them coming in time to prepare. So many nights I’ve woken at 2am to find her trying to hide in the toilet, or scratching the tile floors until her paws bleed. CBD doesn’t necessarily have a sedative effect on her, but I have noticed that it helps, especially when we’re administering it regularly. However, anxiety is just one of many things that CBD has been known to treat in dogs. While we haven’t yet seen any formal studies on how CBD affects dogs, according to the American Kennel Club, ”What scientists do know is that cannabinoids interact with the endocannabinoid receptors located in the central and peripheral nervous systems, which help maintain balance in the body and keep it in a normal healthy state.” Research and evidence are even more scarce when it comes to the efficiency of CBD for cats, but PetMD states that “Based on reports from veterinarians and pet parents, CBD itself appears, on the surface, to be very safe for cats.” So, what are some of the benefits of using CBD products for pets? Pet owners are utilizing the non-psychoactive component to treat a number of ailments concerning their furry friends, but the three that seem to be most common are anxiety, pain, and seizures. As mentioned before, CBD has been incredibly effective in helping reduce my pup’s anxiety over the years through regular use. However, I’m extremely careful about the products I give her for ingestion due to her sensitive stomach. With that being said, here are a few tips on seeking out CBD products for your pets: 1) Pay attention to carrier oils a. Different oils carry different benefits for your pet’s health, but there are a few that are unsafe altogether. When looking for CBD oils, look for products with a base of hemp, grapeseed, or MCT/coconut oil. 2) Keep an eye on terpenes a. Some studies have shown that trace amounts of terpenes can cause minor digestion issues in dogs, such as diarrhea. When in doubt, choose products made with CBD isolate, rather than full or broad-spectrum. 3) Get to know the companies making your pet’s medicine a. The quality and efficiency of CBD products for pets relies heavily on the way those products were manufactured. Make sure you choose a manufacturer that offers total transparency, and support for all of your questions.

Found Myself In Texas by Brittiany Ralls Visiting family and friends in Texas quickly reminds me of the days of the past. At least for a lot of the country at this point. Texas is still one of the few states that doesn’t have a cannabis program in place that allows for a majority of their citizens to access their medicinal cannabis. The Texas program is limited to an extreme and is denying many of its citizens the medical option they need in place of the pain management facilities that are the current option. Many of which are just fueling the war on drugs that has clearly been lost. So many people are still relying on this as an only option, leaving many using substances that are detrimental to their long term health and no end in sight with the current climate of regulation. There are hopes of new regulations coming that could change cannabis laws. In Texas there is always hope. But, never quite the reform that is necessary. We as humans all have an endocannabinoid system that is directly affected by the cannabinoids we take in just like any other vitamin or nutrient rich substance necessary for the sustainment of life. Especially a happy one. Yet there are children, elderly, disabled, shit every human in a way has had to suffer without the correct cannabinoids to sustain a healthy lifestyle. Science is completely disregarded as if it isn’t a part of this that matters. When in reality our doctors haven’t even been taught about a system that does exist within our bodies. So how would they even begin to know how to practice with a medicine and bodily system they know nothing about. They can’t in good conscience tell you anything about the endocannabinoid system, they never even learned about it. Since cannabis is an illegal substance that somehow decided that the system within our bodies no longer existed also?! I didn’t realize that’s how science worked. This is why we need access to information that we can rely on as patients. With the current climate we can’t even go to our doctors to get information that we know we can rely on. That is why utilizing resources like Herbage Magazine is so vital. Writers, like me, want the real information. We want to give you information you can count on, information you know is helpful. Which is what our goal will be, impacting the Texas community by educating and stimulating the community through volunteering. Showing the citizens of Texas, who are hesitant about cannabis, that we are wanting to be a part of society and impact it in a good way. That we are more than willing to prove our intentions through action within our communities by providing the bridge needed for the path necessary for growth as humans, and righting the many wrongs done by the war on drugs. By showing who we are, what we support and being honest about our needs, we can make changes to the current medical cannabis program. With the help of those in support we need everyone we can get to make the changes we want to see for those that we care about and the life we know we are deserving of. Which includes access to cannabis as a medicine for as many Texans as possible. Who’s ready for this wild ride? I know I am!

grown anywhere on the planet. Losing a father over a decade ago to epilepsy, at ripe old age of 54, definitely created a rebellion to what pharmaceuticals and governments push into our bodies. Had CBD even been “legally” accepted back then, I know my father would be a huge promoter of cannabis here in Oklahoma. On the other side of the coin, it’s as much about our rights as it is about medicine and we should all be free to consume without judgement or harassment.
Sowing The Seed by Chet Tucker
As we move into the stages of growth, I felt it necessary to twist one up a bit and reflect on how nature (plant medicine) and ourselves are mirrors of growth. We’ve covered the genetics, the soil, the medium, the water, and the light and they all lead to the strength of the plant’s growth. With a wild year in 2020 that hit us all hard a year ago, it’s important that we look at the growth of not only cannabis, but it’s movement, and our own movement. What does the growth of cannabis and its accessibility represent? It represents freedom to cultivate, freedom to choose plant based medicines, freedom from government or societies that somehow believe that we must follow what they think is best for us and our bodies. So, what growth have we made in Oklahoma? What growth and freedom have you made over the last year? What did you do to keep your freedom and health? Oklahoma has been booming in cannabis and some think it may be too much, others still say, “hit the throttle”. With cannabis making waves from west to east (mostly), we see the growing acceptance and a return to controlling more natural consumption practices to maintain our physical, spiritual, and mental health. Oklahoma sits in the middle of the world when it comes to cannabis. We’re breaking records and showing the rest of the US (and world) that we are about our birthrights and it’s quite simple, we should not be controlled by governments when it comes to accessing what can be safely Groovinrecords@gmail.com 722 E. Moving into the growth section of how plants mirror us and how it’s impacted the state’s growth, what growth did you see in a world locked down and controlled for a full year of seasons? Personally, I did all I could to break through the incessant fear and I sipped rum in a park parking lot, I walked the beaches of Santa Barbara, I explored Grand Lake, the Wichita Mountains, and hit the slopes of Colorado for my first ever snowboarding wipeout weekend. The point is, we should not take our birthrights for granted. We are free to breathe and not be seen as viruses. We are humans. We are friends. We are family. We should be leveraging the freedom of cannabis and what it represents to gather and share and build. Pushing back against the wind and the storms, just like the strong development of a budding flower, creates growth. No matter your position on the world, I feel it’s time for people to rethink with love and logic. To turn off your electronics and go hike, bike, road trip, camp, sit out on a patio, etc. Get out and live and breathe and make human connections, face to face, eye to eye, freely exchanging words of encouragement and peace. The only way to grow stronger is to overcome these frictions and enjoy every moment. Freedom is here and we must continue to return to it. We owe it to ourselves, our loved ones, and our communities to set an example of pushing the right to cultivate, the right to produce and consume our own plant based medicines. We’re retuning to an age of freedom and should govern ourselves with peace, kindness, and love for our neighbors. I’m certain that last year’s impact on the world has budded many with new visions and appreciation. Through the chaos, loss, confusion, and resistance of controlled force, we are here now and I hope we’ll continue supporting each other in this return to living freely. A big tip of the cap to all celebrating 4/20 and let’s keep Oklahoma as the example of what freedom looks like to the rest of the US and beyond.

I discovered RSO was very different than smoking my usual cannabis flower. This innocent gal from Oklahoma had never experienced anything like it. I was very appreciative of the education passed to me through the nurses. I quickly realized patients in California found help through cannabis for ADHD, Anxiety, Colitis, Bipolar, and a host of medical solutions. When I moved back to Oklahoma, everything seemed the same as before I left. There was a dark stigma in regards to cannabis. RSO was concidered a potential for cancer patients only. It is so great to finally see that change come about.

Compassionate IND program by Tab Moura
The history of cannabis in the United States has some dark and terrible chapters; the prohibition of cannabis has caused irreparable harm to the lives of many innocent people. Cannabis is a plant that has been used as a pawn to manipulate certain people into compliance, which is something we’re still fighting to correct today. People are still going to prison for connection to a plant, even though the government has personally, and legally, dispensed medical marijuana to —not one, not two, but 13 people. Double standards aren’t scientific. No matter how ”technical” we get, there is nothing wrong with cannabis, and these days we finally have ”enough” research to back that up. The truth is, there never was enough research. The government has known all along that cannabis is medicinal. It may be a coincidence, but the anti cannabis campaigns didn’t begin until the early 1900s, around the same time that pharmaceutical medicine was beginning to grow. Before it’s prohibition, it was often found in medicines, as a sleep aid and anti inflammatory. After decades of hate campaigns against cannabis, finally Robert Randall happened. A man named Robert Randall was arrested for growing and consuming cannabis. It was 1975, a time when cannabis was beginning to illegally work it’s way into more hands. While still taboo, he had heard of the many ways it helps people, so he tried it and learned it helped his glaucoma. When he stood trial, he used a ‘medical necessity’ defense and the charges were dropped. He filed a petition with the FDA and won, making Robert Randall the first person to receive weed from the government. For 2 years the government sent him cannabis every month. Even when they discontinued sending his medicine, he again advocated for necessary access. This led to the creation of the ‘Compassionate Investigational New Drug program,” or CIND. This program was not easy to join, they had to meet many criteria, but ultimately from 1978-1992 thirteen people joined the CIND program and received medical cannabis straight from the government. The program was closed to new cannabis patients in ‘92 due to a major swell in applications. The program still exists today, for other investigational new drugs, they haven’t accepted new cannabis patients in almost 30 years. Are we tired of watching as lies about plant medicine cost people their lives? Natural medicine is under attack in many ways. Not because it’s dangerous, not because it’s fake, but because there’s no profit. If you don’t believe me, look up how much it costs to get FDA approved CBD. I will always advocate for your right to choose whatever treatment you and your doctor agree on… and I will continue to raise awareness about these scientific double standards until people like myself, and the other ‘Robert Randalls’ out there, finally have protected rights to do the same. And last but not least, the fight won’t be over until all of those who have been imprisoned on ‘nonviolent’ plant medicine charges, have been freed.
