Ready For This?

Prepare for Cowboy Cup V By James Bridges

In the swirling vortex of chaos and color, I find myself on the brink of a mind-bending escapade – a journey deep into the heart of Oklahoma's cannabis revolution, the 5th Annual COWBOY CUP at the Exchange Center in Tulsa. Buckle up, folks, because we're diving headlong into the vibrant whirlwind that is the Cowboy Cup, a celebration of all things green and cannabis culture, happening on December 8th and 9th. If you're new to the scene, I'm your trusty tour guide through the wild, James Bridges. I've been exploring the fringes of Oklahoma cannabis and documenting the madness and evolution since before legalization. Today, the call of the Cowboy Cup beckons, and I can't resist the siren song of this unmissable event.

My preparations are not as crazy as one might think. I don’t have a battered typewriter, a trusty tape recorder, a suitcase crammed with an assortment of mind-altering substances, and a bottle of the finest bourbon to keep the madness at bay. Although, The Cowboy Cup is no ordinary event; it's a spectacle of cannabis culture on steroids, a collision of art, music, and some of the finest smoke you'll find in the nation. As I prepare myself and my team of Herbage flag bearers, I ponder the shifting tides of society. What was once a battle for cannabis legalization and a symbol of rebellion is now a full-blown industry. The Cowboy Cup represents the ever-changing landscape of the counterculture revolution, an evolution that has given birth to this fantastic celebration of all things ganja.

The Cowboy Cup promises to be a swirling kaleidoscope of activities and experiences. The Cannabis Championship is the main event, a battleground where strains and products duke it out for supremacy. But it's not just about the herb, my friends. The Cowboy Cup is a melting pot of creativity, with live music that's bound to send shivers down your spine and art that'll make your head spin faster than a dab from the most potent rosin in the game. This is no ordinary competition; it's a full-throttle immersion into the very soul of American cannabis culture.

I've got nothing to lose and everything to gain – a mind teeming with stories, a suitcase filled with vices that are absolutely legal and nontoxic, and a team of badasses to transcribe the madness. So, as I embark on this mind-bending odyssey to the 5th Annual COWBOY CUP in Tulsa, Oklahoma, I do so with a mixture of trepidation and exhilaration. The road ahead is a twisted path, an unpredictable rollercoaster of experiences, and I invite you, dear readers, to join me in this exhilarating journey through the looking glass. We're about to witness the convergence of the wild west and the cannabis culture movement, and the results, well, they're bound to be nothing short of mind-blowing.

Pink Flamingo Farms By Brannan Bell

It all began with one 600 W and a 4 x 4 tent growing Blue Dream, Granddaddy Purple, and Master Kush. Dan started growing to find an affordable way to have weed and to move out of his parents house. Very quickly, he fell in love with the process, the plants, and of course the end result. Fast forward 10 years and the failed attempt at breaking into the legal cannabis market in California, they saw Oklahoma as their last chance to legitimize their careers and future in the industry they all loved. When they opened in 2021, they only had 30 grow lights in an old rundown building from the 40s. The support of the patients has allowed them to build out to where they are now. Today, they have a fully functioning facility with 200+ grow lights, and a processing lab with 20+ employees. They have big love for all of the Oklahoma patients for making this happen! Pink Flamingo Farms specializes in indoor cultivation with a heavy focus on quality, pheno hunting, single source Hash Rosin, and their own fresh ground pre-rolls. They take pride in only releasing products that they are proud of, and do use themselves, along with treating their employees well, and making it a fun and comfortable place to work. Pink Flamingo is probably best known for the consistency and quality of their flower and pre-rolls, but they are really trying to get on the map with their Hash Rosin! “My favorite part of the Oklahoma cannabis community is the fact that it is the first open cannabis market in the US! It has made it hyper competitive, but this helps to drive out low quality and bad operators. I believe this will eventually lead Oklahoma to have an unrivaled quality and affordability for its patients. We’re just glad to be part of it and hope to stick around for a while.” So far, their 918 Mac has probably been the most popular. “The 918 signifies that it is our pheno. So if it’s got a 918 on it, it came from us, and no one else has that same pheno.” The favorite around the farm is the 918 dark rainbow 2.0 Rosin. A GMO x purple planet cross and it has funky terps, and a function of a powerful effect.” They currently have 10 strains in production, 10 in the final stages of pheno hunting and final selection, 20 more just going into flower, and they are currently purchasing seeds for the next pheno hunt. Their goal is to always have a perpetual pheno hunt going on in order to supply patients with a fresh supply of new 918s!

12

Pink Flamingo Farms truly care about the plant, while it also supports their families and the families of their hardworking, talented employees. You can expect to see Pink Flamingo Farms continuing their search for new and unique strains to bring to the market, as well as Hash Rosin, and pre-rolls to go along with each new strain. They have a lot of exciting things coming in the upcoming year!

THE COMPANY OF ONE TIME TO EAT!

BY AVA TAYLOR

Ah, Thanksgiving, that time-honored tradition of overindulgence and familial chaos, or as some might call it, "the original food coma Olympics." For many, it's a day filled with bustling kitchens, spirited debates with Aunt Mildred over politics, and the incessant question from Grandma, "When are you finally getting married?" But what if, just for once, we turned the dial on this holiday to solo mode? Yes, I'm talking about a one-person feast, a gastronomic celebration of self-reliance, and a personal journey down the path of gratitude, paved with humor, and heartfelt reflection. This year, I've decided to give thanks alone. And let me tell you, it's not because my relatives staged a family-wide rebellion (though the thought did cross my mind). No, this solo Thanksgiving is an intentional choice, a moment of solitude that I've decided to turn into a one-person culinary extravaganza. My kitchen, my rules, my cannabis-infused extravaganza. As I embark on this solo culinary adventure, I'm reminded of the wisdom of the great philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre, who once said, "If you're lonely when you're alone, you're in bad company." So, here's to keeping good company with myself, my kitchen, and a finely roasted turkey breast. After all, if I can't make peace with my solitude, how can I ever hope to make peace with the world? But it's not all about the existential musings. No, Thanksgiving is also about heartwarming connections and genuine gratitude. As I sit at my single-occupancy table, I find myself grateful for the simple pleasures of life—like the way the cannabis-infused butter adds a special touch to my mashed potatoes, or the aroma of the turkey sizzling in the oven that fills the room with anticipation. This solo Thanksgiving reminds me that even in our solitude, we can find moments of joy and thankfulness that resonate deeply. Especially through a bong. So, as I raise my fork and dab rig to this solitary feast, I'll savor not just the flavors of my cannabis-infused creations, but the richness of the moment itself. In this mix of self indulgence and the gratitude that I feel for my community of friends and family, I'm discovering that giving thanks alone can be an act of self-love and an opportunity for personal growth. After all, there's nothing quite like realizing the power of your own company to make you truly thankful for the unique and wonderful person that you are. Cheers to the cannabis-infused journey of self-celebration and a heartfelt "thank you" to you, for being your amazing, oneof-a-kind self.

DANKSGIVING DINNER FOR ONE Ingredients As much cannabis product to utilize while accomplishing this task. Amounts could change, depending upon your day. Make the most of it! For Cannabis-Infused Butter: - 1/8 ounce (3.5 grams) of your preferred strain of cannabis - 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter For Roasted Turkey Breast: - 1 turkey breast cutlet - 1 tablespoon olive oil - Salt and pepper to taste - 1/2 teaspoon dried sage - 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme - 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder - 1/4 teaspoon onion powder For Mashed Potatoes: - 1 medium potato, peeled and diced - 1-2 tablespoon cannabis-infused butter - 1-2 tablespoons regular unsalted butter - 2 tablespoons milk - Salt and pepper to taste For Cannabis-Infused Gravy: - 1 cup turkey or chicken broth - 1-2 tablespoon cannabis-infused butter - 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour - Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions For Cannabis-Infused Butter: 1. Preheat your oven to 240°F (115°C). Grind the cannabis buds, spread them evenly on a baking sheet, and bake for 30-40 minutes to decarboxylate the THC. This step activates the cannabis. 2. Melt the unsalted butter in a saucepan over low heat. Add the decarboxylated cannabis and simmer on low for about 45 minutes, stirring occasionally. 3. Strain the butter through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a container. Discard the cannabis remnants. For Roasted Turkey Breast: 1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). 2. Rub the turkey breast cutlet with olive oil, then season it with salt, pepper, sage, thyme, garlic powder, and onion powder. 3. Place the seasoned turkey breast on a baking sheet and roast in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C). For Mashed Potatoes: 1. Place the diced potato in a pot, cover with water, and boil until tender (about 15-20 minutes). Drain. 2. Mash the cooked potatoes and add the regular unsalted butter, milk, salt, and pepper. Mix well. 3. Add the cannabis-infused butter to the mashed potatoes and stir until fully incorporated. For Cannabis-Infused Gravy: 1. In a saucepan, melt the cannabis-infused butter over medium heat. 2. Stir in the flour to make a roux. Cook for a couple of minutes until it turns golden brown. 3. Gradually whisk in the turkey or chicken broth. Bring to a simmer, and cook until the gravy thickens. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Assembly: Serve the roasted turkey breast with mashed potatoes and drizzle the gravy on top. Now, sit back and relax. Maybe even fire up your favorite movie. Enjoy your Thanksgiving dinner!

All Mushrooms

Are Magic Mushrooms by Jacob DeVecchio (@OklahomaFungi)

The First-Ever Oklahoma Mushroom Festival was absolutely Fung-tastic! Mushroom enthusiasts from all over the state gathered at the OKC Farmers Public Market on October 15th, 2023, to celebrate National Mushroom Day. The event was hosted by Oklahoma Fungi, the state's leading resource for mushroom education. The main goal of the event was to share knowledge about mushrooms and break the negative stigmas associated with magic mushrooms. The venue was jam-packed with sixty market vendors, four delicious food vendors, eight educational classes, ten hands-on workshops, a kid’s station, and a magical immersive experience room. A total of 1,767 people attended, coming from various parts of our state and even from other parts of the country to celebrate the fascinating world of fungi. It was an incredible day with attendees discovering the amazing role that mushrooms play in nature and our health. Whether you were a beginner or an expert mushroom forager, there were classes and workshops designed for you to get engaged and learn from our passionate speakers.

24

On the first floor of the venue, there were forty-five vendors showcasing an impressive assortment of edible and medicinal mushrooms, as well as food products infused with mushrooms like gummies, chocolate bars, and tea blends. They had over fifteen different mushroom varieties, including blue oyster, pink oyster, yellow oyster, shiitake, cordyceps, reishi, chaga, and many more intriguing species. Attendees had the chance to learn about mushroom cultivation through ten workshops and even make their own mushroom kits to take home. The four different food vendors offered mouthwatering dishes and drinks infused with mushrooms like coffee, tea, egg rolls, pizza, and even spicy hand-pulled noodles. All of the food vendors sold out by the end of the event. One of the top highlights of the festival was the immersive experience room designed by local artists and created for the attendees to relax in a magical mushroom forest. The sensory experience of walking through this enchanting space and learning about the different benefits of mushrooms in nature was truly awe-inspiring for many of the families that visited. The second floor of the venue was filled with twenty booths featuring local artists, as well as a large education room offering eight classes. The education classes covered a range of topics, from foraging for morel mushrooms to the importance of mushroom testing. We had an amazing lineup of speakers, including a university dean, university professors, a doctor, a psychedelic therapist, a veteran, and multiple mushroom entrepreneurs. The keynote presentation was focused on the Oklahoma Psilocybin Research Bill and the challenges our state has faced in getting it passed for our veterans. The event received recognition from Governor Kevin Stitt and Mayor David Holt, making it a historic endorsement for our local mushroom community. With positive mushroom events like this, the Oklahoma House of Representatives and Senators can start to understand that our community cares about all mushrooms, not only the magic mushrooms. The Oklahoma Mushroom Festival was a full day of celebrating everything mushroom and it was a huge success. From the bustling market vendors to the informative classes, the mouthwatering food vendors to the mesmerizing immersive room, the festival offered an exciting day of mushroom adventures for everyone who attended. The First-Ever Oklahoma Mushroom Festival has shown us incredible potential for the upcoming legal mushroom market in Oklahoma. With the help of our local community, we can make Oklahoma the Mushroom Hub of the Great Plains. See you next year at the 2nd Annual Oklahoma Mushroom Festival. Mush Love!

What’s Missing? A look at the past & why some relish it

By James Bridges

In recent years, Oklahoma has witnessed a profound transformation in its attitude towards cannabis. Once relegated to the underground, the acceptance of cannabis has grown exponentially, thanks to the changing legal landscape and shifting societal norms. Yet, as cannabis goes mainstream, some individuals find themselves reminiscing about the nostalgia, incognito experiences, and countercultural vibes that once defined the cannabis lifestyle. While traveling around Oklahoma and talking with several people that are either in the industry or living the lifestyle, I have discovered there may be something that everyone might be missing. Samantha, a free-spirited artist living in the vibrant Paseo Arts District, reminisces about the days when cannabis was a symbol of rebellion and an underground community. "There was a certain magic to those times," she reflects. "The thrill of secrecy, the camaraderie, and the sense of being part of a counterculture made cannabis more than just a recreational activity – it was a way of life." For Samantha, the increasing legalization and normalization of cannabis in Oklahoma have dulled the edges of what once made it unique. "It's great that it's accessible and safer now," she says, "but I can't help but miss the mysterious allure of the forbidden." Marcus, a successful entrepreneur in the oil and gas industry, shares a perspective rooted in his conservative background. "Growing up in a traditional, conservative family, cannabis was out of the question," he admits. "But as society evolved, I found myself less and less worried about what everybody was thinking." As cannabis becomes more mainstream, Marcus acknowledges the convenience and safety in accessing it today. However, he also feels that something is missing. "The thrill of the hunt, and the sense of rebellion added a layer of excitement." Jennifer, owner of the Pott County Hide-Out dispensary, appreciates the advancements in cannabis accessibility and the opportunity for responsible use but understands the yearning for the past. "Some of our customers come in seeking the nostalgia of the underground experience," she says. "While they appreciate the safer and legal environment, they also miss the excitement of the 'old days.'" It's clear that the changing landscape of cannabis in Oklahoma has left a unique mark on individuals from various cultural and economic backgrounds. The underground countercultural vibe once associated with cannabis is now a distant memory for many, replaced by legality, safety, and open acceptance. As cannabis continues to evolve in the Sooner State, it's essential to appreciate both the past and present aspects of the cannabis lifestyle. The nostalgia for the underground counterculture adds a layer of complexity and depth to the overall experience, reminding us of the journey from the shadows to the spotlight. In the end, whether you yearn for the past or embrace the present, the acceptance of cannabis in Oklahoma is undoubtedly a reflection of societal change. Embrace with your head held high.

Why Are Natural Occurring Terpenes

So Important In Cannabis? Written by Dr. Pepper Hernandez ND, Ph.D., CTC, CNHP in ECS & Naturopathic Medicine, Cannabis Therapy Consultant, The Founder and Education Director of the Cannabis Holistic Institute. To find out more about her Telemedicine Consultations, Educational Programs, YouTube videos, and other creative content, you can find her on the massive interwebs on all platforms or at drpepperhernandez.com.

In the last 60 years, the interest in cannabis has been growing worldwide even though the use of cannabis as medicine goes back thousands of years. The main reason behind such growing interest is the healing treatment of some serious illnesses. The healing power of cannabis most likely resides in terpenes/terpenoids and phytocannabinoids, of which particular compounds, their amount, and their ratio to each other play the most important role in the treatment of particular diseases. It should be emphasized here that flavonoids, flavonoid glycosides, polyphenols, and other biodynamic compounds also play a large role. For this particular article, we will focus on terpenes. By now many of you have heard of them and may or may not know what they are. They are naturally occurring chemical compounds found in plants and some animals. They are responsible for the aromas, flavors, and even colors associated with various types of vegetation. In terms of cannabis, terpenes are what make certain cultivars smell or taste different from others. Which may be the reason why you gravitate towards a certain flower to smoke. Not only do they smell good, but terpenes/terpenoids also have a wide range of biological and pharmacological activities. For example, after much research, they have been found to be anti-fungal, antiviral, anticancer, antiinflammatory, anti-hyperglycemic, anti-parasitic, antioxidant, and antimicrobial. The next time you choose a stash for yourself, make sure you smell it and enjoy the aroma. Always allow your nose to be your guide and as for the COAs if available. All information in this article is for educational purposes only. The information provided is derived from research gathered from external sources. Please check with your Cannabis Educated Primary Health Care Physician or Educated and trained Cannabis Therapy Consultant before beginning any new diet or lifestyle change. Go forth, Go Cannabis...
