Do not put cash payments in box. City is not responsible for any cash dropped off. All registration is accepted on a first come, first serve basis unless otherwise noted in the course description. Participants are encouraged to register at least one week prior to the course start date. Registration payment must be accompanied with a completed Liability Waiver and Registration Form. Programs, services, or activities may be cancelled or combined due to low enrollment. Proof of residency will be required upon registration. Residents are those who reside within Hercules city limits. Fees labeled as NR in the Activity Guide or on print material represent nonresident fees. Because the Activity Guide is prepared months in advanced, the City cannot guarantee all information in the guide is the most current. Contact Parks & Recreation at (510) 7998291 during business hours to confirm class details if needed. Refund and Transfer Policy Refunds or transfers will only be granted on or before the first class meeting. There is a $10.00 service fee applied to all refunds or transfers initiated by participant. If the City cancels a course, the participant will have the option of transferring to a different class or receiving a full refund. Refunds may be issued after the first class meeting due to a medical condition if a doctor’s note is presented verifying the participant is not able to participate. Photo Disclaimer The City of Hercules may photograph or video program participants and recreational users of City facilities and use the photographs or video in its promotional materials. Unless otherwise noted at the time of registration, Parks & Recreation will assume program partipants and facility users have given consent to be photographed or videoed.

POOL RULES & SAFETY INFORMATION Participants must obey posted rules and oral instructions from the aquatics staff at all times; failure to comply will result in being asked to leave the facility without a refund. 1. Children 9 years & under must be accompanied by a guardian 18 years or older. 2. Children 6 years & under must be supervised and within arms reach of guardian; failure to follow this rule will result in both the child and guardian being asked to leave the facility. 3. Only US Coast Guard approved life vests may be worn, with adult supervision. 4. Noodles and small diving toys are permitted during recreation swim hours. No other toys or flotation devices permitted.

Use swim passes for Lap Swim/Water Walking as well as Public Swim. These passes do not expire!

FAMILY SWIM PASSES

The family swim pass is good for a family of four (4) to enjoy unlimited visits during public swim this summer. This pass is valid from 6/13/2016-8/20/2016 during public swim hours. *Please note, this pass may not be used during Lap Swim/Water Walking, Master Lap Swim Hours, or on pool themed days. Unlimited Pass Additional Member

AMERICAN RED CROSS LIFEGUARD TRAINING

Practice times are based on your child’s swimming ability; all swimmers must be able to swim 25 yards unassisted prior to joining the swim team. Swim practices will be held at the Community Swim Center. Coaching staff evaluate each swimmer and place them in their designated practice based on their swimming ability; swimmers do have the ability to advance and grow with the team. One week trial for intermediate and advanced swimmers only. Annual USA Registration Fee: $80 (checks made payable to EBSD)

PIRANHAS SWIM TEAM Ages 5-18

The Hercules Piranhas is a recreational swim team that swims during the Spring and Summer months. The team emphasizes teamwork, dedication, and fun for children 5 to 18 years of age. All swimmers participate in practices, clinics, invitational meets, and team events. Practice times are determined by our coaching staff and will be assessed based on your child’s swimming ability rather than age, this helps each child individually and to utilize our pool time/space effectively. Want to become a lifeguard? Sign up for this course and you can become a lifeguard in less than 26 hours! After you complete this course, you will receive certifications in CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and Lifeguard Training for the Professional Rescuer! Pre-requisite: must be as least 15.5 years or older by the last date of the course; on the first day of the course, participants must be able to swim 300 yards nonstop, and retrieve a 10 lb brick from 7 feet of water and return to the designated point within 1 minute and 40 seconds, and tread water for up to 2 minutes only using their legs. 15+ years, Community Center 51300-B 4/4-4/7 M-TH 9:00a-4:00p

JR LIFEGUARD CAMP

The City of Hercules Jr. Lifeguard Camp is designed to give individuals the opportunity to train and prepare to become a future lifeguard at the Hercules Swim Center. This course will introduce and provide advanced lifeguard skills through the American Red Cross, focus on teamwork and individual leadership skills, introduce customer relations, certify each participant in CPR/AED and basic First Aid through the American Red Cross, as well as provide hands on training with actual Hercules Swim Center Lifeguards. Course fee includes a Jr. Lifeguard uniform shirt, and certification fees and materials. LEVEL 2: FUNDAMENTAL AQUATIC SKILLS

PRIVATE SWIM LESSONS

2 years & up This class is a one (1) on one (1) student to teacher ratio which will be held in either the main pool or play pool depending on the participant’s request, pool availability, and the swim instructor’s recommendation. Lesson plans will be developed by your swim instructor based on your swimmer’s needs. Each swim lesson session will consist of eight (8) twenty-five (25) minute classes.

PRESCHOOL SEMI PRIVATE LESSONS

4-7 years This class is a two (2) to one (1) student to teacher ratio which is based on age rather than swimming ability. Class lesson plans will be developed by your swim instructor to meet the needs of both swimmers with in the class. All classes will be held in our play swimming pool which has a water depth of 0 feet to 3 1/2 feet. Each swim lesson session will consist of eight (8) twenty-five (25) minute classes.

YOUTH SEMI PRIVATE LESSONS

8-12 years This class is a two (2) to one (1) student to teacher ratio which is based on age rather than swimming ability. Class lesson plans will be developed by your swim instructor to meet the needs of both swimmers with in the class. All classes will be held in our main swimming pool which has a water depth 3 1/2 feet to 13 feet. Each swim lesson session will consist of eight (8) twenty-five (25) minute classes.

AQUATOT: PARENT & TOT LESSONS

6 months – 4 years This swim class provides orientation to the water, teaches parents techniques to support their child in the water, water safety, safe water entrances and exits and more. An Adult is required to accompany each infant or toddler in the water and participate in every class. All classes will be held in our play swimming pool which is perfect for this age group with an ideal water depth of 0 feet to 3 1/2 feet of water. Each swim lesson session will consist of eight (8) twenty-five (25) minute classes. Swim Attire: waterproof swim diaper, tight fitting training pants and a swim suit – NO DISPOSABLE DIAPERS.

LEVEL 1: INTRODUCTION TO WATER SKILLS

4-7 years This swim class will introduce participants to basic swimming skills like how to hold their breath and open their eyes under water, blowing bubbles, retrieving a submerged object, and learning the basic minimum skills needed to be safe in, on and around the water. This group swim class is a six (6) to one (1) student to teacher ratio; each swim lesson session will consist of eight (8) twenty-five (25) minute classes.

4-7 years This swim class is designed to build on each participant’s basic water skills they learned in level 1. Your child will be encouraged to be more water independent with support as needed by learning how to float on both their front and back, being able to push off the bottom of the pool and treading water, as well as being able to combine arm and leg actions on their front and back. This group swim class is a six (6) to one (1) student to teacher ratio; each swim lesson session will consist eight (8) twenty-five (25) minute classes.

LEVEL 3: STROKE DEVELOPMENT

5-12 years This swim class will provide an engaging and challenging environment that will motivate each participant to learn and build on the skills they have already learned in level 2. Participants will be introduced to the front crawl, elementary backstroke, scissors and dolphin kicks, survival float, diving, and treading water. This group swim class is a six (6) to one (1) student to teacher ratio; each swim lesson session will consist of eight (8) forty (40) minute classes.

LEVEL 4: STROKE IMPROVEMENT

5-12 years This swim class will build on the skills that were learned in Level 3 to improve participant’s stroke proficiency to be able to swim longer distances. Participants will be introduced to swimming twenty-five (25) yards of front crawl and elementary backstroke, and swim fifteen (15) yards of breaststroke, butterfly, back crawl, and sidestroke. This group swim class is a six (6) to one (1) student to teacher ratio; each swim lesson session will consist of eight (8) forty (40) minute classes.

LEVEL 5: STROKE REFINEMENT

5-12 years This swim class will refine all six (6) swimming strokes as well as challenge each participant to swim longer distances, and introduce new water safety skills. The expectations for this level are higher now in regards to distance and quality. This group swim class is a ten (10) to one (1) student to teacher ratio; each swim lesson session will consist of eight (8) forty (40) minute classes.

LEVEL 6: PERSONAL WATER SAFETY

5-12 years This swim class will refine each participant’s swimming and complex water safety skills, build on swimming endurance and swimming emergency survival skills. The expectations for this level are higher now in regards to distance and quality. This group swim class is a ten (10) to one (1) student to teacher ratio; each swim lesson session consist of eight (8) forty (40) minute classes.

TEEN & ADULT LESSONS

13+ years This swim class is ideal for participants who have never learned how to swim or who may have a limited aquatic background. Lessons plans are developed by your swim instructor to meet all participant’s swimming needs. This class is a six (6) to one (1) student to teacher ratio which is based on age rather than swimming ability.

City of Hercules Community Clean Up Day

Saturday, May 7, 2016 8am-11am or until full Location: Corp Yard at 1000 Sycamore Avenue Hercules Residents Only Must Show ID Suggested Donation: Cars/Trucks $5; Trucks w/trailer $10; U-Haul less than 14’ $20

A one day event to beautify our community by providing a dumpsite to throw away outdoor trash, yard clippings, tree limbs, small appliances and furniture. Residents will be required to dump their own trash from vehicle. Electronic waste collection will be provided at this event; they will take the following: florescent light bulbs, batteries, and electronic waste. *NO HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE ALLOWED! Please contact your local household hazardous waste site at (888)412-9277 to schedule your FREE drop off.

Our K-5th grade camp philosophy it to provide a safe, fun and exciting environment for each camper. Weeks are based on themes and daily schedules are built around those themes. Our program offers 4 phases of learning adventures to prepare your child for their upcoming school years. Staff teaches a theme-based curriculum with an academic component. Our programs will offer children the basic learning skills of language, fine motor skills, and communication skills, social, shapes, colors, numbers and gross motor development. We encompass and enhance social and emotional development through directed activities, play and instructional material and music and so much more.

PARK GATHERING PERMIT

Reservations are required for the use of the fields at Hanna Ranch and Woodfield. Reservations will be received on a first come, first serve basis.

A permit is required for any gatherings of 50 or more people in any City park. The permit can be obtained at the Parks and Recreation Department, located at 2001 Refugio Valley Road, between the hours of 10:00am-6:00pm, Monday-Thursday. Groups of 50 or more are encouraged to apply for the permit at least 30 days prior to their intended park usage to allow the City appropriate time to review and consider the request.
