Inclement Weather
• During inclement weather (i.e. lighting storms, tornados, severe rain, flooding), if a person chooses to play golf or be on the golf course, you play at or assume the risk of being on the course. Basking Ridge will not make any announcements of impeding weather conditions. BASKING RIDGE COUNTRY CLUB
General Rules & Practices
Course Priority
• A single player has no standing and should give way to a match of any kind.
• Singles and twosomes will be paired up as needed on tee sheet inventory.
• If a twosome is the first tee time of the day, they are required to skip a hole if maintenance is there.
• Foursomes have priority on the golf course on weekends and holidays during the season, which is defined as opening day to closing day. Prior to 11:00am, twosomes and singles will be placed with others to fill out a foursome if possible. The professional staff may allow twosomes or singles if conditions warrant it.
• Maintain position on the golf course. Proper positioning is half of one hole behind the group in front of you. Singles and twosomes should not expect to play through when groups are in proper position.
• A match that fails to keep its place on the course and loses one clear hole on the players in front MUST be passed. It is the duty of the golfers causing delay to promptly give notice to the following group to come through without waiting for a demand to be made. Equally, players MUST ASSERT THEIR RIGHTS FROM THOSE IN FRONT. A match which fails to assert its rights is being inconsiderate of following groups.
• Players searching for a ball should signal the players behind them to pass as soon as it becomes apparent that the ball will not easily be found. They may search for five minutes before doing so. They should not continue play until the players following them have passed and are out of range.
Golf Course Etiquette
Members and guests should do their part in making their round of golf a pleasant experience for everyone at the Club. In so doing, please be mindful of the following guidelines:
Care of the Golf Course
• Replace or fill all divots. It is preferred that players fill their divots with the displaced grass.
• Fix ball marks on greens. All players are responsible for fixing ball marks on greens.
• Rake bunkers. Please use provided rakes to create a playing surface in which all subsequent golfers can enjoy. Enter the shallow end of the bunker when possible. Rakes should be placed back in the bunker.
• Players should ensure when putting down golf bags or the flagstick, there is no damage done to the green by the member or their guests. The flagstick should be replaced in the hole before the players leave the putting green.
• In taking practice swings, players should avoid causing damage to the course, particularly on the tees.
BASKING RIDGE COUNTRY CLUB
General Rules & Practices
General Etiquette
• Respect other players. Please be aware of your surroundings when playing music and be courteous of your fellow golfers. Refrain from driving golf carts close to others while they are playing and always yell “fore” if a ball is headed into the vicinity of other players.
• Loud, profane or vulgar language has NO PLACE on the golf course, or anywhere on property. Unacceptable conduct will disqualify a player from completing a round of golf. Continuous infractions will lead to suspension of golf privileges and or forfeiture of Club Membership.
• No one should move, talk or stand close to or directly behind the ball or the hole when a player is addressing the ball or making a stroke.
• When the play of a hole has been completed, players should immediately leave the putting green.
Golf Carts
Golf carts are provided for the convenience of our members. In order to protect the golf course from abuse and damage, it is essential for all members to observe the following regulations:
• Carts must remain on the path on all Par 3’s and Hole #8.
• All carts must be kept 30 yards from greens and shall not pass the designated cart signs.
• Cart paths must be used when designated by professional staff or course superintendent.
• Only two persons are allowed to ride carts and no riding on the back of carts will be permitted.
• Please observe posted signs at all times. Carts may be restricted at times due to weather and course condition. It is the responsibility of each player to inquire of Staff as to the prevailing cart rules for the day.
• A valid driver’s license is required to operate a golf cart anywhere on Basking Ridge Country Club property, as per New Jersey state law.
• Cart and key must be returned immediately to the outside attendant upon completion of play.
• Misuse of carts in any manner will result in the suspension of privileges.
• The Club will not be responsible for property or valuables left on the carts, in the locker room, bag room or on the premises.

RIDGE COUNTRY CLUB
Handicapping
Handicapping Procedure
Handicapping based on Course Rating is the great equalizer among golfers of differing abilities. An individual Basking Ridge stroke play handicap is computed according to the World Handicap System.
The best 8 of the last 20 scores posted, compared with the Course and Slope Ratings, are used to determine the Handicap Index that is then converted to a “Course Handicap”. A Handicap shall not be issued to a player who has returned fewer than five acceptable scores.
Members without an established handicap may obtain a temporary club handicap computed upon a minimum of five attested scores. This temporary club handicap will be acceptable for entry in handicap tournaments.
The primary purpose of the World Handicap System is to provide fair handicaps for all players, regardless of ability or where the game is played, that will result in fair matches for all.
To ensure this “fairness,” members have responsibilities that include:
Posting of all “adjusted gross scores”. Gross scores are adjusted according to the World Handicap System procedures. Details of the ESC procedures will be net double-bogey, par + 2. Nine-hole scoring is accepted in the system. Notices of this scoring procedure will be posted. Posting a score for incomplete rounds if 13 or more holes are played is mandatory. For holes not played, the player assumes a score of part handicap for the hole according to his/her handicap. Your handicap index will be revised daily, you will need to know your course handicap. If golfing as a single, you are not eligible to post your score.
