FLIGHT PLAYOFF– After the final posting of scores on Sunday All Flight Winners (including ties) will be in a Sudden Death Playoff on Hole #17 from the 150 yard marker to determine the Member Member Champion Scramble format will be used. No strokes.
HANDICAPS: Each individual will receive 100% of their handicap Team Handicaps for the 2 Man Scramble will be 35% of the A Player plus 15% of the B Player. NOTE The difference in handicaps between players may not be greater than 10 strokes or the higher handicap player will be reduced.
SPLASH DOWN POOL: After Round 1 Saturday 3 Balls $20 to Qualify DAY MONEY: The Lowest 3 team scores each Flight each day will receive Day Money.

STAFF SAFETY Over the past couple of weeks there have been several instances where either myself, my assistant, or another member of the grounds staff has been almost hit with golf balls while out hand watering greens in the afternoon. Please do not hit into staff when they are on a green watering in front of you. We do our best to work in gaps and avoid holding up play, but on busy days, especially the weekends, there is often not a gap and we need to get on a green in between groups. In most cases we can accomplish what we need to in a couple minutes or less and will be out of your way.

We made the decision to replace the sod on the 2nd and 11th tees last week. Those tees have annually given us trouble and both had excessive thatch layers. The grounds staff removed 2.5 to 3 inches of turf and thatch before we laid down the new sod. This should alleviate the problem and the tees will preform much better in the future. Both tees will be closed for approximately 2 weeks All play will be off the lower section of #2 and forward tee on #11 until the sod has a chance to knit We have taken a very conservative approach to management of the greens over the past 2 weeks. Greens speeds have been slower and we have kept moisture levels higher to help them recover from any stress suffered over the past couple of weeks. As we get closer to the end of the month we will resume our normal maintenance practices and playing conditions should go back the to the conditions everyone enjoyed for the majority of the summer The weather early in the month has forced us to change aerification plans a few times We have started to spot aerify and overseed damaged areas in the fairways, tees, and approaches. At this point I do not expect to do anything further with greens other than an occasional light topdressing.

At this point it is safe to say that we will use more irrigation water on the golf course this year than any of my previous three years here at Knollwood. If you exclude the 4 inches of rain we received in one shot mid July, the golf course has only received less than 2 inches of rain since June 1st. Combined with the higher than normal temps, 13 days over 90, it has been an extremely challenging year to keep the golf course looking and playing well Thankfully it looks like the weather has started to improve and we are already seeing signs of recovery throughout the golf course, a trend that I expect to continue
