Thankfully, we received one good day of rain last week. On Monday the course received 1.3 inches of rain which was much needed and definitely helped course conditions. It would have been nice to get more rain, but the rain we did get helped to reset soil moisture levels which makes it easier for us to keep up with our irrigation system In June, July, and August we have used over 10,000,000 gallons of water this year, compared to 4,000,000 over the same period in 2021 Even using that amount of water, over long stretches with no rain moisture levels in the sub soil (below 2 inches) start to drop and it is really hard to replace without regular rainfall.
The rain day also gave us an opportunity to shut down the irrigation system for a couple days and take care of multiple leaks around the golf course. We were able to take care of several of the leaks and do some other regular maintenance on the system. Sod is coming this week to complete the clean up process. We will also be resodding some sections of collars and approaches throughout the course on Tuesday and Wednesday this week Those areas will be marked ground under repair for the next couple of weeks We would ask everyone to do their best to limit traffic over the new sod message from your Superintendent Scott Olson, Golf Course Superintendent at superintendent@knollwoodcc com
