Heritage Invitational

This year’s event ensures three days of friendly golf competition, Lowcountry hospitality, cultural cuisine and top shelf entertainment. For our returning guests, you will notice continued improvement to the facility and course conditions. For our new friends, we are confident you will find your first visit to Port Royal Golf and Racquet Club to be memorable as you tour our courses- the historical Robbers Row, winding through the majestic oaks, and time spanning Barony, one of the earlier courses designed here on Hilton Head. Both are in outstanding condition and await your best game. In addition, we are confident the off course pairings of Lowcountry flavors and refreshments will be as enjoyable as the golf and fellowship.

Enclosed you will find tournament information and a schedule of events. As is our custom, we have many entertaining activities planned for both you and your guests. The Invitational concludes on Saturday evening with a festive dinner followed by dancing to the sounds of Target the Band.

It is our sincere goal to make this tournament a competitive golf experience complimented with splendid food and wonderful comradery. We look forward to spending three magical days with you and your friends and family and extend to you a very warm Lowcountry “Welcome.”

Ties: In the event two teams in a flight have the same number of total points after all 9 hole competitions, the specific match in which both of these teams competed will determine the Flight Winner.

Teeing Ground: Member tee markers.

Scoring: A winning hole is worth 1 point, and a tied hole is worth ½ point. Each team will combine points from all five 9 hole matches to achieve a 45 hole team total. The team with the greatest 45 hole point total in each flight will be awarded first place. Each of the flight winners will be entered into the Grand Champion Shootout. Note: One Wild Card Team will be determined by identifying a nonflight winner with the most total points after completing all five 9 hole competitions. The Wild Card Team will also be entered in the Grand Champion Shootout.

Rules: Play will be governed by the Rules of Golf as approved by the USGA, except where modified by local rules. The 14 club rule is in effect and the ball will be played as it lies.

Rules of Competition

Format: Four Ball (better ball of team) Match Play event; 90% of handicap. Matches will be stroked off the low handicap in the foursome. The Divisions will consist of four flights composed of six 2 man teams. Each team will compete in five 9 hole competitions over the course of three days.

Note 2: SURVIVOR FLIGHT! The team with the lowest point accumulation at the end of Day 2 in each flight will be designated as a SURVIVOR FLIGHT team. Of those in the SURVIVOR FLIGHT, the team with the greatest point accumulation on Day 3 will be entered into the Grand Champion Shootout.

In the unlikely event these same two teams tied their head to head match, a 30-50 yard chip-off will break the tie in determining the Flight Winner. The Wild Card and Survivor Flight ties will be broken by chip-off.

Shootout: The Grand Champion Shootout will begin at 4:00pm on Saturday afternoon and will take place on Barony Holes 1, 2 and 3. The winners of all four flights will be included in the Shootout, along with a Wild Card Team and the Survivor Flight winner.

Shootout Rules: 1. The format will be alternate shot. Each player from their team will alternate hitting tee shots throughout the shootout.

2. Handicaps will be adjusted for the alternate shot format. To determine team handicap for the shootout, both players adjusted handicaps will be combined and divided by two to get an average (rounded up). Handicaps will be stroked off the low team and as they fall on the scorecard.

4. The remaining two teams after the second shootout hole will proceed to Hole #3, where the overall Champion will be determined. In the event of a tie, the two final teams will engage in a one hole aggregate stroke play playoff. Course handicaps will fall as they may on the card. In the event that a tie remains, the process will be repeated until a Champion is determined.

3. The three teams with the highest scores will be eliminated after the first two holes. In the event of a tie for the highest score between teams, a 30 50 yard chip off will determine which team proceeds to Hole #3.

Rules of Competition Continued

Weather: The Professional Golf Staff and the Tournament Committee will determine the schedule of play based on abnormal weather conditions. A minimum of 5 complete holes will be considered a completed match should weather intercede.
