MANAGER'S MESSAGE By Rob Ciapanna I want to start by thanking all the members who came out for the club’s annual Fall Festival on October 27. This annual event, sponsored by your POA, is a way of thanking and uniting the community. This year’s theme was a Halloween Oyster Roast and I learned something about the Palmetto Hall residents, they can eat a lot of oysters! 40 bushels worth. A great time was had by all enjoying pumpkin painting, bouncy house, live music, and costume prizes. Make your Thanksgiving holiday stress-free this year and let Chef Mick and his team do the cooking with the club’s Thanksgiving Dinner To Go. Just pick it up on Turkey Day and enjoy! We have also added Comfort Dinner To Go on Black Friday. Choose from Lasagna, Spaghetti, and Meatballs or Pot Roast accompanied by a salad, potatoes, vegetables, and dessert. You can place orders for both by calling or stopping by Baird’s Pub. Join us for the club’s annual Tree Lighting on Thursday, November 30 with a performance from The Hilton Head Island Shore Notes and a visit from Santa. Our Member Holiday Party is scheduled for Friday, December 15 and Santa will make a return appearance to Palmetto Hall on Saturday, December 16 for Brunch with Santa. It’s an exciting time of year. Let’s celebrate it together with family and friends.

TURF TALK by Patrick Hensley We will be overseeding our driving range tee in the upcoming weeks. During this process, we will need to use artificial mats for approximately two weeks to allow the seed to germinate and receive its first mowing. We use ryegrass for this purpose, as it provides a grass surface for hitting golf balls during the winter months and enhances the overall aesthetic of the range tee. Our specific schedule, determining when we'll transition from mats to grass, is yet to be finalized. Throughout the winter, when the ryegrass isn't actively growing, we will spend some time on the mats to help preserve the grass. It's crucial that when we are on the mats, we remain on them and refrain from stepping in front of them to hit balls. Rest assured, we are committed to efficiently establishing the grass so that we can return to hitting off natural grass surfaces as soon as possible. As a friendly reminder, please remember to keep "All 4 wheels on the cartpath!" when you're out on the course. We look forward to seeing everyone enjoying the beautiful courses this fall!

PARKER'S POINTERS by Parker Mulford “Fall into Winter Season” So here we are…the oppressive heat and humidity that hung like a pall over us for many months this year has lifted. The cooler eves have started, the leaves begin to fall, and the heavy rough is starting to thin a bit. It’s comfortable to play at mid-day now. What better time to look at equipment and clothing? The first thing that comes to mind is grips. The extremes of temperature wreak havoc on the compounds and deteriorate the grips at a breakneck pace. Faulty grips create swing flaws as we need to compensate for the lack of control. With a Golf Galaxy right down the street, fall is an ideal time to get the set regripped for the winter season. Perhaps consider a change in style or size as well. Step outside the box and feel a few different products from different manufacturers. It could make a positive impact. Shoes are next. Do spikes need replacing after a summer of wear? Golf Galaxy again for a jar, and we can change them out for you here at the shop. If the shoes are non-spiked, is there enough traction left to do the job? Or even consider a different option or style. Many players opt for a summer shoe and a winter shoe. Lastly are the clothes. And this isn’t a blatant plug for the shop, but we have many new offerings for the cooler months- perhaps the best selection Palmetto Hall has had in a long time. In any event, manufacturers are redefining how golfers can dress for the colder weather. New textiles and blends offer lightweight comfort with cutting-edge climate performance. Do some research. This isn’t your grandma’s outerwear. Embrace this time of year. Fall is possibly the best time to play. Your scribe can’t wait to get out behind the desk and on the fairways with you this month. Get equipped and dressed and go for par!
