Golf Course Maintenance
The golf course and practice facility will be closed July 22nd - 24th (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday) for our Summer maintenance! It is a great time for Mark Jewell and his team to spend a few long days getting the golf course primed and ready for the fall and for many years to come!
What can we expect to see?
Aerification: the greens, tee boxes, and approaches will all be aerfieid during the closure. Aeration is an essential program to keep playing surfaces healthy and in good condition for years to come. It is primarily performed to control organic matter (decaying roots and grass stems), relieve soil compaction, and stimulate root growth while improving drainage. Organic matter can be too excessive and creates small surfaces prone to ball marks, footprints, and inconsistent playing conditions. Aeration and topdressing are the most effective ways to control organic matter. Greens should be back to normal in 2-4 weeks depending on weather!
Remember: the greens may not play their best immediately following aeration, but everyone is playing the same conditions! After all, Tom Watson, once shot a 58 when playing a Kansas City Country Club just a few days after the greens have been aerified.
Are you posting scores to GHIN?
As we arrive at the halfway mark of the year, I wanted to remind everyone to use the GHIN system to post scores and keep a reliable handicap. We all have that one “friend” that conveniently forgets to post his/her score after a round of golf.
I believe I have heard almost all of the excuses in the book:
“I played a different course. ”
“I forgot.”
“I was going to but had an important match tomorrow.”
“He didn’t post, so I didn’t post.”
My personal favorite: “Oh, you noticed that? Yeah, I will when I get home.”
You may think that not posting a round or two every now and then doesn’t matter as much, but it makes a huge impact!
It can impact the PCC (Playing Conditions Calculations) for the day. The PCC can impact your handicap anywhere from -1 to +3 and ONLY counts scores posted on that day! Not posting can also cause your handicap to be skewed which means you get less or more strokes. No one wants to play with a sandbagger!
Please remember, the GHIN app is an amazing tool that allows you to post scores immediately after your round. If you need assistance, please let us know! We look forward to seeing more scores posted and your handicap lowering!
Match Play Deadlines
Please remember, Match Play deadlines are right around the corner!
Team Match Play - Sweet Sixteen - All matches must be completed by July 28th!
Individual Net Match Play - Sweet Sixteen - All matches must be completed by September 1st!
Gross Match Play - Elite Eight - All matches must be completed by July 28th!
No extensions will be given, so please schedule your matches accordingly. If the match has not been completed by the deadline, the winner will be decided by a coin-flip.
