Become an RSVP volunteer... make a difference in your community!

The AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP program pairs thousands of Americans age 55 and over with organizations making change in communities across the country. RSVP volunteers choose how, when and where they wish to serve with commitments ranging from a few hours to 40 hours per week.

RSVP of Duval County volunteer opportunities include:

• Tale Tellers read to DCPS Pre-K through 1st Grade students with a goal of increasing literacy rates.

• Floor Captains encourage social interaction, provide companionship, assist with meal preparation and delivery, or plan activities for socially isolated seniors. Virtual opportunities include telephone reassurance and can be done remotely.

• Veteran Volunteers provide services and support to military families to assist in finding sources of food, shelter, clothing, health screenings and wellness programs. Virtual opportunities include telephone reassurance to veteran seniors.

• Other Community Priorities Volunteers provide assistance and clerical support to non-profit agencies.

The AmeriCorps Seniors City of Jacksonville-Duval County Senior Companion Program volunteers help frail seniors and other adults maintain independence primarily in the client’s own home. Senior Companion volunteers typically serve between 15 and 40 hours per week and 2 to 4 clients. Among other activities, they assist with tasks of daily living such as grocery shopping and paying bills, provide friendship and companionship, alert doctors and family members to potential problems, and provide respite to family caregivers.
