Serving Veterans of the U.S. Military by:

• Assisting Veterans and their families with filing VA claims for disability, Surviving Spouse Indemnity Compensation, Widows Death Pension Benefit, and Aid and Attendance Benefit.

• Assistance with preparation and submitting Notice of Disagreement to VA Claims previously submitted.

• Assistance with preparation and Submitting Formal Appeals to Board of Veterans Appeals to VA Claims previously submitted.

• Assistance with Amendment 7 or Amendment 2 Reduction of Property Tax for Veterans rated by VA Service Connected for Combat Related Disabilities.

• Assistance with submitting request to obtain VAFL 27-333, Reduction of Property Tax for Veterans rated by VA as Service Connected 10 0 percent Permanent and Total.

• Filling out and submitting VA forms for burial benefits.

• In-home consultations and assistance made available to severely disabled.

• Providing at-risk or homeless Veterans with temporary housing, food and clothes.

• Assisting homeless Veterans to connect to beneficial social services and full-time employment.

• Counseling referrals for Veterans in need of rehabilitation to gain independence.

• Providing transitional employment and job referral assistance. CareerSource staff are co-located and provide career assistance.

Monday - Thursday 8 a.m. - 12 p.m.

• Providing limited social services for Veterans in need of shelter, clothing, and health and comfort items.

• Amendment 7 homestead exemption assistance

• Assistance with application for VA Health Care.

• Assistance with application for VA Home Loan.

Serving active-duty and reserve military members by:

• Hosting events that honor our military and their families

• Providing transitional employment and job referral assistance.

• Interviewing skills and resume assistance provided on the third Thursday of each month from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. Advocating for the expansion of the military presence in Duval County by:

• Continuing the Federal advocacy for additional ships, personnel and aircraft and DoD investment at local military bases.

• Working with congressional delegation to ensure funding for infrastructure improvements necessary for additional ships and personnel at NS Mayport.

• Continuing the collaborative effort with the Navy to acquire restrictive easements around OLF Whitehouse, thus preserving its operational capacity.

• Managing multiple grants that fund infrastructure improvements on and around area military bases.

“Strength in Unity,” the council’s purpose is to unify the Veteran organizations of Northeast Florida, providing solidarity in communicating the Veterans’ viewpoints and a means of disseminating information on issues before local government that affects Veterans, their dependents and surviving spouses. The Council’s general assembly of delegates from area Veteran organizations meet on the third Tuesday of the month (except December) at 7 p.m. at the City Hall Mezzanine at 117 West Duval Street, Jacksonville, FL 32202. Organizational dues are $25 annually.
