New Mobility Methods Handicapped

Disabled

Tackling the problem of a devices used by the disabled and handicapped. Insights developed a concept for product which was then a prototype was put out to create more opportunities for the users completely based on their feedback, predictions and the compiled data

Initial Predictions and observations were made through available data, interviews, surveys, and immersion.

Contextual Gathering

Information was gathered on the distinction between handicapped and disabled and what issues each group faced as well as defining the Target Market

In-depth Research: Surveys Data yielded themes based on Image, Freedom of Movement and Feeling Artificial.

In-depth Research

Interviews with various users in all stages of being disabled or handicapped and asked what their major issues were.

In-depth Research: Observations Observations reinforced surveys and interviews and helped to define what the main converns should be in regards to concepts

Uneven ground A device can can make be detrimental to the Users self traversing difficult Image:

Reaching things in general was a concern to some: Not all devices are made for varying body types:

The comfort of the device can make it worse for the user

Some devices are awkward and are returned immediately

Devices have limited to no way to adjust

Heading up or Turning Radius down hills and detrimental to inclines are difficult users in various ways

9 insights were synthesized from the data collected as well as secondary sources. Analysis

Finding Opportunities making

Throughout the project, there were countless observations, follow up interviews and there were several times a prototype was shown to verify the direction of the concept.

To further understand the insights and the concept a working prototype of the concept was made to check dimensions, size and usability.

Each step was followed up with additional data and verified through several medical officials to see if the concept would be feasible.

The quick prototype enabled the project to narrow down what could and could not work in the given parameters.

The 9 insights were synthesized further and helped to bring about the final solution.

Concept Organizing

Users wanted several things that were not connected yet were equally important, a new product was developed to act as an add on to preform this function.

Analyzing the concept

The product was scrutinized to make sure the needs were met and if it was able to solve more than one of the insights and made sure it was aesthetically pleasing and ergonomic.

Opportunity Create a way to give almost unlimited adjustability in most aspects

The Ability to Customize gives the user a better self image given their particular circumstances.

Not everyone is the same shape yet devices do not adjust to those shapes

Users want something that they call their own and be proud of it, similar to people with their phones

There may need to be more than just one way to fix how the device interacts with the ground.

Different forms yield different uses and the same is shown with the devices the users have.

The wheels or feet of devices are very stationary and that works against them.

Most devices given are expected to be used in one way but are used multiple ways.
