Analysis

An exploration of mobile phone usage based on predictions as well as verified data. Insights developed a strategy in order to create more opportunities for the user completely based on their feedback, predictions and the compiled data


Initial Predictions and observations were made through available data, interviews, surveys, and immersion.

Contextual Grounding

I spoke with various mobile phone users and discussed their primary motivations for this specific type of phone, the uses and expectations that they had.

In-depth Research: Observations Observations reinforced predictions and brought about new insights such as different hand positions indicate a specific function.


Texting is the main feature of the mobile phone

There are many hidden ways battery power is being sapped

There is no education on how to help battery life

There is no Manual on how to use the phone to its full extent.

Mobile Data is used, sometimes without the user knowing

Almost an equal amount of people preferred to have a case on their phone as opposed to being case free

6 insights were synthesized from the data collected as well as secondary sources. Analysis Throughout the project, there were countless observations, follow up interviews and some mock scenarios that used prototypes for testing. Each step was followed up with data to make sure the users thoughts were following their emotional responses. The 6 Insights were narrowed down from this analysis and broken down to the best and move logical solution.

Finding Opportunities through Collaboration To further understand the insights, several other designers and other users from different disciplines were asked their opinion to truly understand what each user expects A theme was made based on the core issue of each of the insights which was knowledge of the product and all was done to accomplish that objective.

Concept Organizing

Users wanted several things that were not connected yet were equally important, a new product was developed to act as an add on to preform this function.

Analyzing the concept

The product was scrutinized to make sure the needs were met and if it was able to solve more than one of the insights.

Opportunity Hands Free allows the phone to be out of harms way, preventing damage to the phone.

Add-ons creates revenue for companies and reduces the need for interaction with the phone.

If a phone is in a safe place, there will be no dropped phone or extreme need for cases.

If an external plug in to a watch or other sort of external device is used, it creates more ways to communicate.

Create an on-line forum to answer questions not covered by the manual in the package. This way any possible question will be easily accessible if the user cannot get tutored or have the time

Indicate which applications are using data and which are not. The need to be a “data watchdog� would be unnecessary and gives the user more control over their mobile.
