Choosing accommodation Resorts & Motels Are definitely the most commonly known type of accommodation. While it is commonly accepted they are expensive, the truth is resorts and motels can be a less expensive option. When looking for a resort and motel it may be best to contact them directly to compare deals, rates, packages and availability.

Apartment rentals If you’re staying for a longer period, looking for a rental is a good choice. With a rental you have most or all the amenities at a competitive price.

Cyberbullying: online abuse Advice is available for parents of young as well as adults who may be experiencing online abuse. Some examples of cyberbullying include: •hurtful or abusive messages •creating fake accounts in someone’s name to trick or humiliate •spreading nasty rumours or lies about someone •sharing photos of someone to make fun of them or humiliate What to do: Resist the urge to respond to any hate targeted at you online, it usually just makes it worse. Screenshot evidence: Before you block or delete, make sure you screenshot. If you’ve seen or been the target of mean or nasty stuff online, your immediate reaction might be to make it disappear, but it’s really important you keep evidence of it. Report and block: Most social media services, games and apps have a function that makes it easy to report and block online bullying. You can find reporting links for social media, apps, games and websites in the eSafety guide. Talk to someone: Cyberbullying can make you feel isolated and like everyone is out to get you, but that’s not the case. Make sure you talk to people you trust. Report it to eSafety: If you have trouble getting the content removed and you are under 18, you can report it at www.esafety.gov.au/report/cyberbullying Kids Helpline: 5 to 25 year olds: tel:1800 55 1800 kidshelpline.com.au/get-help/webchat-counselling Headspace: 12 to 25 year olds tel:1800 650 890 headspace.org.au/eheadspace/

Once again it's Christmas Time, time for us to be, Busy wrapping presents and setting up the tree. It seems we have so many things, to think of and to do, We may forget that Christmas, has a deeper meaning too. A meaning that goes far beyond, the things the eye can see, Such as Holly wreaths, Mistletoe, and Gifts beneath the tree. For these are only Symbols, of what happened Christmas morn, When in a little manger, GOD's only Son was born. GOD put HIM here upon this Earth, with one idea in mind. To put New Hope around the World, and LOVE in all Mankind. So even though we're busy, and have many things to do, Let's not forget that Christmas, has a deeper Meaning too. Eugene W. Miller

Delicious healthy & balanced

Asian food is one of the most delicious types of cuisine available to enjoy today. The wonderful thing about this food is that it tastes so good. Visit any of these restaurants and enjoy this mouth-watering cuisine. Other great aspects about Asian cooking are the healthy benefits this food offers. Very often vegetables are balanced with entrees and fried dishes come with steamed dishes or soups. The majority of people believe that Asian cuisine is healthy and well balanced. The different types of Asian food that we love to enjoy include the following: crab, cabbage, carrots, duck, tofu, cucumber, bean sprouts, bamboo, eggs, chicken, beef, glutinous rice, mushrooms, ginger, watercress and sesame oil. So visit one of our local restaurants as advertised in our guide today!

The Township of Childers is the southern most township of South East Queensland and three and a half hour journey from Brisbane. This town offers views overlooking thousands of hectares of vivid green sugarcane and avocado farms. Visitors can step back in history when they visit the town’s many historical buildings, some buildings dating back to Queensland’s early pioneering days. Childers offers a relaxed country atmosphere. Nearby is beautiful Woodgate Beach and National Park, offering an unspoilt coastal playground for visitors seeking peace and quiet.

Visit the home of Australia's Iconic Rum

Since 1888 when the Bundaberg Distillery was born, Bundaberg Rum and its home in Bundaberg has played a significant role in Australian culture. The Bundaberg Rum Distillery , Australia’s most-awarded rum distillery, opened the doors to a new $8.5million Visitor Experience in August 2016, showcasing over 130 years of rich Australian spirit. Recently voted Australia’s best Brewery, Winery or Distillery Experience at the 2018 Australian Tourism Awards, the Bundaberg Rum Visitor Experience is an attraction to tick off your bucket list. The Museum Experience Inside the Museum's self-guided tour, six 75,000 litre oak vats, that have previously matured thousands of litres of Bundaberg's finest rums, have been emptied and rebuilt, allowing visitors to walk through them in a unique sensory experience that showcases the proud and rich history behind Australia's favourite rum.

The Distillery Experience Get the full Bundaberg Rum experience; first by making your way through the immersive Bundaberg Rum Museum, and then meet up with one of the expert Distillery guides where you’ll continue the journey deep into the rich and golden heart of the fully operational Bundaberg Rum Distillery. 1. Drive economically Drive smoothly and try to maintain a steady speed.

2. Service your car regularly Keep the engine correctly tuned.

3. Inflate tyres correctly Setting the tyre pressure correctly will aid in fuel economy and safer handling.

4. Check the wheel alignment Ensure the wheel alignment is correctly set and the brakes aren’t dragging, as increase rolling resistance will use more fuel.

5. Check your load Reduce the load in your car. Things like golf clubs and toolboxes add unnecessary weight, which in turn increases fuel consumption.

Towing safety tips HERVEY BAY

First, make sure you have a tow bar that is up to the job! If you can afford it, it's worth paying for a professional installation. Make sure you're familiar with any laws that apply, especially if you are travelling abroad. In particular, make sure you know the speed limits. In some countries you need a separate warning light fitted in the car to show that the caravan direction indicator lights are working. * Coping with the load - are the engine, brakes, tyres and suspension up to the job? * Trailer or tow bar weights - check your car's handbook for the maximum weights allowed. * Rear view - make sure you can see behind the caravan using the car's mirrors. Extending side mirrors can be fitted to most cars. * Check tyre pressures - unless you are towing a light, unladen trailer, the car tyres should be inflated to full load pressures (check your car's handbook). Check the caravan tyre pressures are correct too. * Headlight set up - check the aim with the caravan attached, and have it adjusted if necessary. Many cars these days have an adjuster on the dashboard. * Caravan lights - the extra load on the flasher circuit may cause the indicators to flash too slowly, so you may need a heavy duty flasher unit. Check brake, side and number plate lights. * Loading the caravan - refer to the manufacturer's recommendations. As a general rule, distribute the weight with the heaviest items as near as possible to the caravan axle. Secure all heavy items so they can't move. Car manufacturers usually specify an optimum noseweight for a caravan when loaded. If necessary, move the load to get as close as possible to the recommended noseweight and do not exceed it. * Engine - don't put unnecessary strain on the engine by trying to tow an unsuitably heavy load. The extra load on an engine when towing may mean that the cooling system is no longer adequate - you may be able to have modified cooling system components (a larger radiator, etc.) fitted to cope with this problem if you tow regularly. * Suspension - Towing puts extra strain on a car's suspension components and can affect the handling of a car. Heavy duty rear suspension components are available for most cars to enable to cope with towing. * Reversing - There are some very simple rules to follow. It may seem a difficult concept to grasp at first, but instead of being able to turn your car steering wheel in the direction that you want your trailer/caravan to go, you must turn it in the opposite direction. It might take a little time to master this technique, especially when reversing round a corner. When reversing in a straight line, the easiest way to remember what to do is to steer towards the towing mirror in which the trailer or caravan appears.

Going Straight ahead. You can approach without signalling. But:

Some people think you should give way to vehicles approaching from the right on a roundabout, but:

Make sure you signal left as you exit and turn your indicator off after you've left the roundabout.

Turning left. Here's the way to do it. Approach the roundabout in the left lane or line of traffic. Then:

Turning Right. Approach the roundabout in the right lane or line of traffic, then signal right as you approach the roundabout and continue to signal right until you're ready to exit. Then:

Signal left before you exit the roundabout. The same rule applies if you intend driving beyond the right turn exit.

That's not the rule. You must give way to any vehicles already on the roundabout before you enter. It doesn't matter if a car is on your left or on your right.

Volunteers always welcome Meals on Wheels Fraser Community Inc (formerly Hervey Bay Meals on Wheels Inc) has been fulfilling the needs of the local community since 1968, when 12 meals were delivered in the first week. Located at 39a Islander Road, Pialba. We currently cook around 10,000 meals monthly - 6,000 in Hervey Bay and 4,000 in Maryborough. These meals are distributed from our new Hervey Bay kitchen to clients in River Heads and through the city suburbs to Howard, Torbanlea and Burrum Heads. From Churchill St we deliver throughout the greater Maryborough area. New volunteers (minimum age 18) are made very welcome and are always required due to holidays, extra demand or retirement. You choose the type of work, number of hours and frequency and our Manager or Chef will suggest a day and time to suit us both. Come along and give it a try – you’ll be doing something enjoyable and very worthwhile for your community. We need help in the kitchen, deliveries, in the office, handyman, committee, fundraising and marketing. Call Maria on 4128 1334 in Hervey Bay or Carly on 4121 4297 in Maryborough to arrange a convenient time to call in and discuss how you can help us.
