Cannabis Cultivation + Retail
Our Story Our 30 years of practice has taught us the importance of relationships built on trust and confidence. We trust our clients and partners to understand the needs of their customers, and they trust us to lead the design process for their spaces. We have all design/engineering disciplines under one ‘roof’, which translates to increased efficiency, higher quality results, and a more engaging teamwork atmosphere.
Case Study Colorado Green Building Company, Oklahoma
Comprising 1.2 million square feet, this expansive facility with Native American design influence was engineered to achieve industrial-scale perpetual growth and harvesting for cannabis plants. Inclusive in the design is a state-ofthe-art headhouse boasting fully automated trimming and de-budding machinery, configured to allow for modular future expansion. Offices, laboratories, storage vaults, distribution centers and high-end security control systems are also vital components of the project.
Industrial Our experience designing for large-scale industrial facilities allows us to hit the ground running while developing greenhouse and hydroponic environments. Past projects have included ground-up construction, renovations/ expansions, and adaptive re-use of structures for manufacturing, food processing, and distribution facilities that required high-bay ceilings, long clear spans, sanitized environments, and sophisticated MEP/FP systems.
Engineering Consistent facility conditions are crucial to your growing operations. HFA’s engineering expertise includes food processing and distribution centers where building space and pressure control are critical for sanitization, especially when designing for temperature and humidity control. Plus, our electrical engineering team’s work includes a range of micro-fulfillment centers with infrastructure for automated and robotic facilities.
Interior Design An industry leader in customer experience-driven retail, HFA has the background, talent, and expertise to plan and design elegant and inviting environments for cannabis retailers. Our in-depth knowledge of various finishes, lighting, display systems, and customer flow design criteria provides invaluable insight into what it takes to create successful retail environments.
Our Team Aksel Solberg, aia, ncarb Team Lead / Architect Aksel has led HFA’s entry into the cannabis market with the Colorado Green Building Company. He brings an in-depth knowledge and understanding of how to plan, design and engineer cannabis cultivation and harvesting facilities. Aksel also has an extensive retail background making him well equipped to create distinctive cannabis retail environments.

+ bemp
Vice President Greg leads HFA’s engineering team for new cannabis projects. His recent work includes sizing the MEP infrastructure for a 1.2 million square feet grow facility, including planning for a cogeneration plant to handle back-up electrical needs. Greg understands the importance of building pressurization with temperature and humidity controls to ensure healthy plant growth.
