We collaborate to create the program, design the layouts that keep flow and operation in mind, and develop the concept through visuals.

A look inside

Prototyping

Prototype Development After the design process, HFA helps you develop the architecture, MEP, and structural standards to get your prototype construction ready. We provide site analysis + evaluation, design, layout, exterior design visualizations required for approval by local jurisdictions, construction documents, permitting + entitlements, and construction administration.

Prototype Management HFA maintains your prototype by adapting it to meet the latest standards. We update the design based on client changes and can adapt it to meet site standards regardless of if it’s a ground-up build, a takeover conversion, or a tenant infill location.

Chick-Fil-A Various Locations Chick-fil-A sought to partner with an architecture firm that could provide a centralized prototype design, helping them save on costs and promote consistency across their restaurants nationwide. HFA was selected due to our change management process and experience handling large-scale projects with other major restaurants and retailers. As our relationship grew and the scope of work increased, we became more heavily involved in the long-term planning and execution of Chickfil-A restaurant projects. Unlike traditional client-architect relationships, HFA partners with Chick-fil-A as an extension of their internal team. We are regularly involved in corporate meetings to provide expert knowledge of both the Chick-fil-A restaurants and industry thought leadership.

7-Eleven Various Locations Since the beginning of our partnership with 7-Eleven, scaling at a fast pace has always been the goal, so our team worked to develop a new prototype that allowed us to help design and build 1,000 stores in five years, while also applying value engineering principles to keep costs manageable and meeting 7-Eleven’s goal of an overall 25% reduction in energy. Our team also designed a program using BIM technology that provided automated material takeoffs to pre-negotiated vendors for material procurement, facility maintenance, and operations. The full team approach we use to serve our 7-Eleven clients includes not just architecture and engineering services, but also permitting, landscape, irrigation, drainage, site design, and construction administration.

Bojangles Various Locations HFA has worked alongside the Bojangles Design and Construction Teams since 2020, and as the program architect, we developed the architecture, MEP, and structural standards for the ground-up prototypes. Our team has created multiple prototype designs based on lot size, how much kitchen and dining room square footage preferred, and they also include a new DTO (drive-through only) design, as well. For these prototypes, we utilize traditional stick built, modular, and panelized construction processes based on square footage.

Freddy’s Various Locations Five years ago, our team was approached by a local developer that was also a Freddy’s franchisee, to design a multi-tenant development with a Freddy’s restaurant anchoring the development as the end cap, flanked by two other tenants. Our team took the Freddy’s prototype and provided the client with highquality construction documents that incorporated their individual design style, ultimately avoiding any potential RFIs that might complicate the construction process. We built a client-specific REVIT prototype for this client, as well.

Stripes Various Locations in TX, LA, OK + NM Prior to its acquisition by 7-Eleven, Stripes sought out a partnership with HFA to develop a new prototype design, while simultaneously providing full services for their successful new store and remodel roll out program. HFA collaborated with design firm Chute Gerdeman to help the Stripes team redefine the way customers interacted with the Laredo Taco Company, taking it from a minor establishment hidden away from view to a destination within the c-store environment itself. HFA was also responsible for implementing a full project administration system to include all facets of a project from real estate investigation through construction, including real-time project tracking and documentation.

Tacos 4 Life Various Locations From the very beginning of our conversations with Tacos 4 Life, rolling out locations quickly throughout the region was always top-of-mind. Our team partnered with Tacos 4 Life to help make this dream a reality by supporting them through the creation of their first location in Little Rock, AR, thanks to value engineering support on the current building design and prototype they were working with. By providing them costeffective solutions that met brand expectations, they were able to expand at a faster rate, which allowed them to deliver on the motto of giving back meals to those less fortunate for every taco or bowl sold.

Wawa Morrisville, PA HFA recently collaborated on an innovative drive-through-only (DTO) project for Wawa in Morrisville, PA. Our team was able to bring our internal expertise in architecture and engineering to the table while working with trusted contractors to ensure we adhered to Wawa’s building and design standards every step of the way. This test project, which was a first for Wawa, was especially exciting because it allowed our team to collaborate on getting a new store prototype to market in record time. This format also allows customers to grab the essentials they know and love from Wawa at an even faster pace without leaving their car.
