The Blueprint

Out with the old….

The last few months of 2006 were very busy for everyone at Habitat Greater Vancouver. In October the Burnaby ReStore celebrated its 4th birthday. On November 18th we held a breakfast to recognize our volunteers (thanks to Adrian and the volunteer committee), followed by the Phase 3 home dedication ceremony. The spirit in the room was truly magical as each family spoke about what their Habitat house meant for them. Sponsors, family, friends, volunteers, donors, board members and staff were once again reminded of how vital Habitat’s work is in this wonderful part of the world where so few can afford to buy a home. Now everyone is eager to see the completion of the homes so that another four families can join the Government Street community. Stay tuned to the website for our progress. The end of the year saw the office move from the Burnaby ReStore site to the new 2nd ReStore location in Vancouver (69 West 69th Ave). With the help of volunteers from Penske Truck Leasing, Richmond Fire & Rescue, and the Heritage Mountain Consulting Group we managed to make the move in one day. Thanks so much to everyone who helped make it relatively painless! Except for our location address and fax number, all contact information remains the same.

In addition to our regular volunteers we also welcomed Jason and Brandon from the Katimavik program (Canadaʹs leading national youth service program: www. Katimavik.org) who helped out at the Burnaby ReStore from September until the end of the year. They have now moved on to Ontario, but Luke and Maria have joined us until April, with another two volunteers to follow them through to July.

...And in with the new

We have the building permit to go ahead with Phase 4. The wall panels will be built and stored at the Vancouver ReStore location workshop and then shipped to the site once the foundations are completed. On March 3 we invite you to celebrate the grand opening of the Vancouver ReStore (see page 4). We are also looking for volunteers for the new ReStore. If you can help please contact Tom at 604‐293‐1898. On March 31 our annual Universal Gospel Choir fundraising concert takes place (see page 2) And later this spring we will be hosting a national student building week event, sponsored by James Richardson & Sons, Limited.
