BUILD UPDATE: Phase 4 Complete! After many months of hard work, four more Habitat partner families will experience their first spring as homeowners, having just moved into their townhouses on Government Street in Burnaby. On November 29, 2008, volunteers, donors, staff and sponsors of Habitat for Humanity Greater Vancouver gathered together at the Dedication Ceremony to present the families with the keys to their new homes. The Burnaby build is now more than halfway to completion with 16 families and 32 children living in the community. Volunteers are already hard at work building the Phase 5 townhomes in partnership with five more deserving Habitat partner families.

VANCOUVER ART GALLERY: Ought Apartment premieres May 14, 2009

THANK YOU! to our current Phase 5 Sponsors:

The Vancouver Art Gallery has commissioned Vancouver artist Reece Terris to install a six-storey apartment tower in the rotunda of the gallery. Focusing on the evolution of domestic space in Vancouver over the last six decades, the exhibit will feature six full-scale apartments stacked on top of each other, rising through the heart of the Gallery to the fourth floor. Commenting on interior design and renovation as social phenomena, each floor of the installation will reflect the floor plan of a particular decade. As the installation ascends, the floor plans change to represent changing social values and décor over time. Ought Apartment has been constructed, in part, with materials sourced from the Habitat for Humanity ReStores.

HELP RAISE FUNDS for Habitat for Humanity Greater Vancouver A great way to support our goal of eliminating poverty housing is to become a fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity Greater Vancouver. We now have a great online fundraising tool that is very easy to use (it’s actually the same system they use for Run for the Cure). More and more individuals and companies are taking advantage of this peerto-peer fundraising idea since most people can justify donating $20, $50 or $100 which spreads out the burden but adds up very quickly! The website automatically generates tax receipts for donations over $20. Here’s what you can do with your fundraising webpage:

• Share the page with friends, family and supporters

FUNDRAISING IDEAS: 1 In lieu of a gift for special occasions like weddings, birthdays, an anniversary, dinner party— any occasion!—ask friends and family to send a donation to Habitat for Humanity.

2 Volunteer on an upcoming build. Ask family and friends to support your volunteer efforts by making it a pledge-drive. Build in a goal, post it on your webpage, and try to meet your target!

3 Raise funds for a special event on behalf of Habitat for Humanity or start your own event! These could include a bike-athon, walk-athon, local penny drive, charity formal, bake sale, car wash—let your imagination loose!

• Personalize it with a video and images • Email your fundraising message and your page • Track your fundraising results
