LETTER FROM THE EDITOR
Welcome to another edition of HFS Magazine! Our staff this year was a small but dedicated team who worked hard to create something special. We focused on FUN this year! We have lots of smiling models in the pages that lie before you. We had a great time at all of our shoots and hope you enjoy the stories that are told throughout the magazine. This is my last semester at Ithaca College and I wish my team the best of luck in semesters to come! I know they are all bound for greatness and I cannot wait to see what they are able to achieve next year. A huge thank you to the staff and models, this issue wouldn’t exist without you. I invite you now to turn the pages and see what HFS Magazine is all about! Enjoy! Sincerely, Megan

Fireside Fashion
Bonfire-chic isn’t really that difficult, here at HFS we want you to be able to sit back, relax, and enjoy as many s’mores as you can! When dressing for a chilly night around the fire-pit denim is a must, and you can absolutely never go wrong with plaid. We also like cozy sweaters with warm scarves to help keep you warm on chilly nights. Rule of thumb: Comfortable and non-flammable!

Fashion Aligns Itself with Resurgence of Feminism Kait Clarke ‘16
W
hile this fall’s runways lit up with the expect-
ed amount of eye-popping color and variation in hemlines to debut this upcoming spring’s trend, the fashion world saw a glimpse of the past- the late-sixties and early-seventies are back in, and bringing with it, it’s feminism ideals. There’s no question of the current shift in the tides of society; with millennials being deemed as the new generation with hippy-esque ideals and drive, the issues once prevalent of the hippie-era have now come full circle. Young adults across the country, and many far past US borders, are taking to the streets in protest; These millennials are staging lie-downs over controversial police and racial dealings, protesting Supreme Court decisions on women’s rights, and standing in unison with the LGBT community to fight for their rights marriage rights. It’s almost as if our society is living in the late-sixties/early seventies all over again, but with smartphones and hi-speed Internet. However, can we expect much less from the millennials, who are
projected by the US Chamber of Foundation to be the most educated generation in history? Like generations of past, this rising one has a distinct personality for self-expression, with more than 75 percent creating social networking profiles and rising numbers in tattoos and piercings per individual. In a report researched by the US Chamber of Foundation, the personal branding trend is “a method for young people to identify their passions and determine the most expedient path forward, rather than having others set a path for them.”
“History Is Her Story”
And as the hippies of the ‘60s and ‘70s did, it seems so too will the millennials. This upcoming spring’s trends were a flash from the past, with everything from Twiggy-esque funky patterned shift dresses to the old-school feminist uniform of flowing shapes. This isn’t to say designers copy-and-pasted designs of the past onto their runways- merely, the reflection of the socially conscious hippie generation’s dress was like a confirmation of sorts in the direction our present society is going.
Perhaps the grandest display of this confirmation
