วั น นี้ ที ม งานนั ด พบเธอตั้ ง แต เ ก า โมงเช า ที่ ก องอำนวยการตลาดนั ด จตุจักร เพื่อแตงตัว แตงหนาทำผม ใหสวยปง (ทั้งที่กอนแตง เธอก็สวยจน บรรยายไมถูกอยูแลว คริ คริ) จากนั้นชางภาพก็ควาตัวเธอไปอยางรวดเร็ว เวลาผานไปหลังจากถายไปสองชุด แดดเริ่มแรงขึ้นเรื่อยๆ แตดูเหมือนวาแดด ไมไดทำใหเธอยิ้มไดนอยลงเลย เธอยังยิ้มอยางสดใสและอารมณดี ไมวาจะ เปนยิ้มผานเลนสกลอง กับทีมงาน หรือแฟนละครที่มารายลอมตลอดการถาย แบบในครั้งนี้ เธอยังคงสงยิ้มอยูตลอดเวลา (คอนเฟรม) เมื่อเสร็จสิ้นการถายปกแลว จึงถึงคิวของการนั่งพูดคุยกันแบบสบายๆ ที่เกาอี้ไมหลังรานเสื้อผาเกๆ 53 Road โครงการ 2 ซอย 3 ในจตุจักร มาจตุจักรครั้งลาสุด ประมาณ 5 ปที่แลวไดนะ (หัวเราะ) หรืออาจจะมากกวานั้น (คิด) ก็มา เดินกับเพื่อนคะ สมัยมัธยมคะ ซื้ออะไรตอนนั้น ก็เดินไปเรื่อยๆ ไมรูวาจะซื้ออะไร ของอะไรที่เราอยากซื้อก็หาไมคอย เจอ แลวสุดทายกี้ก็มักจะไดของที่ไมไดอยากไดเทาไหรกลับบานคะ 5 ปกอนของจตุจักรในสายตา จริงๆ กี้วาก็เหมือนกับตอนนี้คะ รูสึกวา 5 ปที่แลวก็ยังมีเรื่องของ แฟชั่น ตอนนี้ก็ยังมีเรื่องราวแฟชั่นเหมือนเดิม แตวามีบางสิ่งที่เปลี่ยนไป ก็คือ กี้วาตอนนี้มันมีอะไรที่หลากหลายมากขึ้น สินคาก็มีใหเลือกเยอะ เหมาะกับ คนทุกวัยคะ มาที่นี่ไดของกลับบานแนนอน ออ... แลวก็คนก็ยังเยอะเหมือน เดิม (ยิ้ม) รูสึกอยางไรที่กลับมาอีกครั้งในวันนี้ ก็รูสึกคนแนนดี ตื่นเตนดี กี้รูสึกวามันเปนการถายแบบที่รอนแตก็ สนุกดี (ยิ้ม) เพราะคนที่นี่นารัก ทั้งคนขาย และคนมาซื้อของ ก็ระหวางการ ถายก็ใหความรวมมือดีคะ สนุกมาก

Pinky in JJ invitation to go shopping with Pinky Noonish has finally arrived, Pinky-aka Savika Chaidej, a Channel 7’s popular young actress has already finished almost half of her bottle of water already after cutely going all out with her photo-shooting session in spite of the scorching heat of rapidly approaching sunlight. This is for the cover of JJ Shopping Guide and it is scheduled to be compelted before the Sun gets over the top of our head.

Today the team was to meet up with her around 9 am at the JJ Administration Office to beautifully put on the make-up and dresses(even though she was already indescribably stunning without those make-up..hee.hee) before she was quickly snatched away by the photographer. After 2 sessions of shooting, Sunlight got stronger but it didn’t seem to cause her cheering smiles to subside one bit.

She was still refreshingly and joyfully smiling thru the lens as well as towards the team or those fans of her TV dramas, who gathered around the location thru out the sessions. She was still spraying out all her smiles.(confirmed) When the photo-shoot was over, then the next queve was a casual conversation while sitting on these wooden chairs behind the Stylish Clothing Store, called 53 Road, Project 2 Soi 3 in JJ market.

The last time you came to JJ?

It must have been around 5 years already(laughter)..or maybe a bit longer than that(thinking).. Just came to stroll around with friends then.. during my High School..

What did you buy?

Just wondering around not knowing what to buy.. Sometimes we couldn’t find what we wanted to buy.. then ended up getting something else home that I didn’t really care for instead.

Five years ago in your eyes.

Really, Ky(pronounced K-e-e) think this is the Fashion Center for Thais and foreigners alike and JJ is suitable for many kinds of people.

Everybody can come here to shop for whatever he/she wishes to as there are varieties of goods and merchandises. Clothings are also abundant in varieties and selections(emphasized with satisfaction).

JJ has everything from those cutie tiny little stuffs(sounded sparkingly happy) such as toothpicks ‘til those humongous items. I have to say that it has everything and every kind for real(smile) Charm of JJ

For Ky, the charm of JJ is that all these shops in all the corners are so enticing and beckoning. As all the goods’ styles at JJ are different, interesting and various. Shopping here, it depends on the shopper as what kind of good he/she is looking for as they are so many to choose from. Not typical though.

The New Year is approaching already. Does Pinky usually shop for others?

I always shop for New Year but mostly I don’t think of myself that much. I think New Year is the time to shop for others around us. If I come over to JJ, I can get so kind of many gifts here, from presents, souvenirs, personal items, clothing, handicraft, home decorations, plants and etc. There are so much stuffs here that it should be able to answer all of the gift-shopping questions one may have.

Any plan yet to buy any presents for someone this coming New Year?

Um..(thinking) If for my parents, I should buy something healthrelated, such as those Aroma Candles as my mom likes that. She also likes those aromatherapies so much too. I would like to get some for my mom. For clothes, I will buy for myself(laughter).

Beyond that I have to wait and see as there are so much to buy from here.

And another thing that I like very much is this timely up-coming of the JJ Shopping Guide as this place is like.. (thinking) ..ah..JJ is very big(stress) and if this magazine becomes available, it will be a very good assistant in selecting those goods because if we have read this magazine already and if we wish to get this particular piece of good, we maybe able to find more detail in this magazine and then go buy that at the store mentioned in the magazine. Or call to the shop directly to ask if the goods are still available without having to waste the time strolling around for that.

And many times we may wander around without being to find the right stuffs either. I think for shoppers it is more convenient and as for myself, if I wish to get some gift for my mom and I get to one of the projects, such as Project 1 or 2, that may already have taken 2-3 hours already. If I still can’t find that I’d rather give up and go home already as I don’t have all day to wander around either.

Besides mother, is there any other person to buy a gift for?(smile)

(laugher) if I had a boyfriend(awkwardly smiling) but I don’t have one now.

If I have a boy friend, then I will definitely get him one too.

Any work coming out soon?

There are these two dramas though, one is called ‘Talad Nam Dumnoeun Rak- Part II’ I play with Nam(Rapeepat Aekpunkul) and another one is ‘You are life’ together with Veer Sukolwat scheduled to air early of ’51. For modeling, there are lots of those too as currently my school is at the crucial point because I am already a senior. I study ‘Liberal Art’ with English Major at Rungsit University. Next year should be a bit better as study and work att the same time is hard now.

Last word for JJ folks.

“I will get some card for my dad and mom and some decorating flowers, the miniature ones they put in this small mini size pots. Guess it will be Thai flowers as my mom likes them. Choosing the decorating flowers because they last much longer and I will ask my parents to leave them in their bedroom so that may remind them of me. For friends, I may get them some mobile phone decorations or keychains with some tiny cute dolls.

I guess I can give them to around 30 friends. For a close one(awkwardly smiling), I guess a nifty shirt will do.”

เริ่มตนปใหมทั้งทีจะมาชอปเจเจแบบเดิมๆ เดินเรื่อยเปอยไมมีจุดหมายระวังตกเทรนดขาชอปเจเจ เพราะตอนนี้ เรามีแนวทางในการชอปของ ขวัญแบบไดสินคาดังใจ ไมเปลืองเวลา จะไดเดินชอปอยางสุขใจ สบายกระเปา ชวงปใหมเหมาะมากกับการชอปเจเจ เที่ยวไปเที่ยวมาเสร็จแลวก็แวะซื้อของฝาก ของขวัญฝากพอแม ญาติพี่นอง เพื่อนพอง หวานใจ ฯลฯ ลองลำดับขั้นตอนการชอปปงที่ผานมาของตัวเองดูวา กวาจะไดของขวัญถูกใจมาสักชิ้น คุมคากับเวลาและราคาที่จายไปแลวหรือยัง ถาคิดวายังไมคอยเกไกเทาไหร ก็ลองวิธีที่ เจเจ ชอปฯ เลือกมาฝากดูนะ

1. เขียนลงไป...จะซื้อใหใครบางนาาา นั่งลิสตรายการสิ่งของที่ตองการซื้อ เขียนรายละเอียดใหเขาใจงายๆ โดยแบงเปนหัวขอยอย เชน ซื้อใหตัวเอง และ ซื้อใหคนอื่น จากนั้น หัวขอที่ซื้อใหคนอื่นก็คอยไลลำดับมา วาซื้อใหใคร ใสชื่อลงไปเลย คุณแม คุณพอ คุณญาติๆ ทั้งหลาย เจานาย ลูกนอง หรือเพื่อนฝูงรวมกวน กี่คนก็ใสรายชื่อลงไป ซึ่งเมื่อเขียนหมดแลว เราจะไดเห็นภาพ เห็นจำนวนวา เราจะซื้อของใหใครบาง จำนวนกี่คน

2. ถึงเวลาเลือกใหเหมาะ

ทีนี้ก็มานั่งไลดูทีละรายชื่อ วาใครเปนใคร เหมาะกับของประเภทไหน เริ่มตนจากตัวเองกอนก็ได ทบทวนวา ปที่ผานมาเราอยากไดอะไรเปนของขวัญใหตัวเองมากที่สุด เขียนลง ไปในกระดาษใตชื่อของตัวเอง จากที่อยากไดมากที่สุดไปถึงนอยที่สุด (แตก็ยังอยากได) แตตองกำหนดไวนะ วาเราจะซื้อกี่ชิ้น สวนของคนอื่นๆ ก็เริ่มคิดวาเขาชอบอะไร หรือเคยเปรยใหฟงวาอยากไดอะไร ถานึกไมออกใหมองภาพรวมของคนๆ นั้น จากอุปนิสัย รสนิยม แตถายังนึกไมออกอีก ก็นึกถึง หนาที่การงาน อายุ เพศ แลวก็เลือกใหเลย อยาลืมวาแตละวัยก็ชื่นชอบของขวัญตางกัน วัยเด็กๆ ซื้อใหลูกหลาน ก็มองไปที่ของเลน พวกตัวตอ จิ๊กซอว ตุกตา หรือวรรณกรรมเยาวชน ในขณะที่วัยรุน นาจะเปนของชิ้นเล็กๆ เก ทันสมัยไมตกเทรนด เชน เสื้อผา สรอย กระเปา รองเทา ที่หอยมือถือ ซองมือถือ ซองไอพอด สวนวัยผูใหญแลว ก็มองไปยังของที่ใชงานไดจริงๆ เลยนาจะเหมาะ ไมวาจะเปน กระเปาเอกสาร เนคไทน สมุดบันทึก หรือวาพวกผลิตภัณฑดูแลสุขภาพ เครื่องหอมตางๆ ตั้งไวเปนหลักๆ ก็พอวาจะซื้ออะไรใหใคร เชน นองเอ. ตุกตาหอยมือถือ, นายบี. กรอบรูปไม, นางสาวซี สรอยขอมือผูหญิง, คุณแมดี เทียนหอมกับน้ำมันหอมระเหย, คุณ เพื่อนอี สรอยคอเงินประดับหิน, คุณพอเอฟ โคมไฟประดับหองรับแขก ฯลฯ

3. สำรวจเงินทองที่กำลังจะไปเปนของนอกกาย

จัดระเบียบคาใชจายประจำใหเรียบรอยโรงเรียนนักชอป จากนั้นกำหนดจำนวนเงินที่เตรียมไวสำหรับของขวัญ เชนมีตัวเลข กลมๆ อยู 2,000 บาท ตองซื้อของขวัญใหทั้งหมด 10 คนรวมตัวเองดวย หาคาเฉลี่ยออกมาเลยวามีงบซื้อของขวัญคนละ 200 บาท มองดูอีกทีวา 200 อาจจะนอยไปสำหรับซื้อใหผูใหญ หรือคนพิเศษที่สุด (ในชวงนั้น อิอิ) ก็จัดการโยก ตัวเลขมาเพิ่มใหคนพิเศษที่สุดซะ จำนวนเงินที่เหลือก็ไปเฉลี่ยเพื่อหาของขวัญใหกับคนพิเศษ (ยังไมที่สุด) ของเราคะ หรือวาอาจจะลดในสวนที่ซื้อใหตัวเองลงไปก็ไมผิดกติกา

4. เปด เจเจ ชอปปงไกด มุงหนาไปชอป

ใชเวลาวางๆ กอนนอน นั่งจิบชา กาแฟ ที่ไหนก็แลวแตตามชอบใจ เปดนิตยสารไปที่หมวดสินคาซึ่งเราตองการ ถาเปนสรอย ก็เขาไปดูที่หมวดเครื่องประดับและดูภาพและราย ละเอียดสินคาแตละรานคาวารานไหนมีสินคาที่เราตองการ เจอแลวก็จดชื่อราน ที่ตั้งราน เบอรโทร ไวในลิสตการซื้อของขวัญของเรา ทำอยางนี้ไปจนครบจำนวนคนจำนวนของที่ ตองการชอป จากนั้นถาอยากเช็คราคาเช็คสินคาวายังมีอยูหรือไม ก็โทรไปถามผูขายตามเบอรติดตอ หากราคาเกินงบที่ตั้งไว ก็แนะนำวาใหเลือกมองหารานตอไปคะ แตจนแลวจน รอดเช็คไป 9 รานแลวก็ไมเจอเสียที เพราะเราตั้งงบไวสำหรับซื้อกำไลประดับเพชรเทียมนำเขาจากเกาหลี ดีไซนเริดในราคา 50 บาท นั่นก็ขอแนะนำวา เปลี่ยนของขวัญที่จะซื้อเถอะ คะ เพราะวาราคาตลาดคงไมใช 50 บาทแนๆ หากไมอยากจะเมื่อยมือจดรายละเอียดรานจริงๆ ก็แนะนำใหหาเศษกระดาษขนาดพอเหมาะเกๆ มาคั่นไว แลวก็ยกหนังสือไปเที่ยวเจเจดวยเลยคะ แตวิธีนี้อาจจะเมื่อยมือถือ (หนังสือ) แทนคะ แตบางครั้งก็มีผลดีนะคะ เพราะรานคาหลายรานมีสวนลดใหเปนพิเศษ เพียงถือหนังสือไปถึงหนาราน แตวาแอบกระซิบวาถึงแมจะไมไดมีขอความสวนลดเสนอให ในหนาหนังสือ แตถาถือไปแลวก็ลองออนๆ เจาของรานแสนใจดีกันซะหนอย ตั้งใจตามมาถึงรานขนาดนี้ มีหรือคะเจาของรานจะไมใจออนลดพิเศษใหคุณ (เสนห ของ เจเจ ก็อยูตรง ที่พอคาแมคา ใจดี ใหตอรองไดตามวาทศิลปของผูซื้อเนี่ยละคะ)

5. ตรวจสอบสมรภูมิชอป

เมื่อไดชื่อราน ที่ตั้ง โครงการตางๆ ที่จะเดินไปทั้งหมดแลว ก็เปดไปที่แผนที่ซึ่งแนบมาในเลมดูที่ตั้งราน โครงการใหชัด หาจุดเริ่มตนวาจะเริ่มเดินจากจุดไหน เชน ประตู 1,2 หรือ 3 มองหารานตามโครงการ ซอย เลขที่ราน เริ่มตั้งแตจุดเริ่มตนเดิน ไปเรื่อยๆ ตามเสนทาง ที่ไมตองเดินกลับไปกลับมา จัดคิวเดินใหเหมาะสม เชน เริมที่โครงการ 2 มีรานตอง ซื้อ 3 ราน ก็เดินซื้อไปรอบเดียว และเดินตอไปขางหนาเลย ไมตองยอนกลับมาอีก จะชวยประหยัดเวลา และ พลังงานในการเดินไปไดโขทีเดียว สวนระหวางทางเจอรานไหนนาสนใจ ก็แวะชมสินคาไดไมผิดกติกาคะ

6. ถึงเวลา...ขาชอป

ครบแลวก็เลือกวันเวลาไปชอปไดตามอำเภอใจ แตเรื่องสำคัญเมื่อตั้งงบไวแลว ควรรักษามาตรฐานใหอยูในงบที่ตั้งใหได ไมวาจะเจอสินคาที่อยากไดแตแพงเกินงบก็ตาม เพราะเราไดจัดสรรงบไวสำหรับซื้อของขวัญ และคาใชจายประจำไวแลว นี่คือวินัยในการใชเงินนะคะ มิเชนนั้น ทานอาจจะตองกระเปาแฟบกอนสิ้นเดือนก็เปนได คะ สวนผูที่มีเงินถุงเงินถัง ไมวากัน ชอปใหยาวไปเลยคะ

7. ชอปปงอยางมีสตินะคะ สตางคจะไดยังเหลืออยูกับเรา

Steps New year Shopping at JJ 1. Jot it down.. to whom you plan to shop.

List all the things that you want with all easily understandable details with title and sub-title, such as for yourself and for others. Then you may go in to any particular order, such as for whom(list the name down), mom, dad, cousins, boss, staffs or pals. List all with names so we will get a clearer picture of the situation, number of items and what to buy.

2. Pick the right time.

Now it’s the time to check each name out as what suits whom starting from youself. Think back what you most desire for a gift. Jot it down on the paper under your own name, from the most desired item to the least(but still desired) but you have to say how set up your mind as how many pieces you would want to buy too.

For others, you also have to think what they like or ever mentioned something they wish to get. If you can’t think of one, then think of how the person is from his/her behavior, taste but if you still can not figure out, then think further of the person’s work, age, sex and choose one.

3. Check your wallet and your soon to leave money of yours.

Try to organize your normal expenses properly, then set the limit for the gift money, for instance, you have 2000 THB and that has to be enough to buy gifts for 10 people, yourself included. Do the devision and see that you have around 200 THB per person but it may not be sufficient or decent to purchase a gift for respected others or a very special someone(at least at the time..hee.hee.) so increase the number towards these people first. The left over is to be devided by other special somebody(not the most special..mind you) of ours then or if youwish to decrease your part instead that is fine too.

4. Open JJ Shopping Guide and go shopping Spend some free time before bedtime sipping tea or coffee at your favorite spot and open the magazine to the desired section. If for necklaces, then go to Jewelry section and view those photos and details of goods from those many shops to see which has what you are looking for. Once found, then write the name, location and telephone number down on the shopping list. Keep doing this ‘til we find them all for everybody on our list. If you wish to check for the prices and availability, then you may call the vendor/seller at the listed number and if the figure is above your set number, I suggest you look to the next shop then.

If you don’t want to write your arm off, then I suggest some nifty bookmarks or just pieces of small papers to mark those pages then. Don’t forget to bring the magazine with you to JJ too though but this may tire your arm(the magazine) instead. As many shops may have special discount if you present this magazine. (whisper) Even though, there isn’t any discount advertised in the magazine, if you already have this magazine on hand why not try talking the kind-hearted shop owner to giving you some then. Since you are adamantly determined to visit his shop, it is inconceivable that the owner won’t melt and give you a special discount.(This is the charm of JJ where these kind sellers are willingly open to make a real good bargaing with their buyers)

5. Checking the shopping-zone Once you get all the names, locations and projects that you have to visit already, then open up the map page attached to clearly see where they are located. Find the starting point as where you should begin, such as Gate 1, 2 or 3 and search for the shops by the project number, soi(aisle) and shop number. Continue on the path that won’t make you have to go in a zigzag pattern and set the queue for your walk properly, for instance, starting at Project 2, there are 3 shop to visit, then go only once and continue forwards without having to make a u-turn.

This will help save time and energy tremendously but you may make a stop at any shop that may interest you and that is not against any rule.

6. Shopping time.

Now we have gathered all needed info and it’s time to go shopping at will. However, once you set up the budget, please keep that in mind regardless of whether or not you find some items that you want dearly but rather expensive for your budget as we have already allocate the budget for gifts as well as our personal expenses. Follow the real good discipline for money management, otherwise you may go broke before the end of the month though. For those of you who don’t have to worry about the budget, then please go on shopping ‘til your heart’s content.

7. Think before you spend it, so you have money left when you really need it.

ต อ งใช เ งิ น มหาศาล แต เ ราก็ ไ ด รั บ ความร ว มมื อ จากคณาจารย ค ณะ วิศวกรรมศาสตรทำการสำรวจ ผลที่ไดคือ ตองใหผังอากาศไหลเวียนได ตองใชพัดลมไอน้ำพนเขาไปใตหลังคา ซึ่งในแตละโครงการจะมีตัวดูดอากาศ ใหออกไปบนหลังคา อยางนอยอุณหภูมิก็ลดลงไดหาองศา เนื้อตัวจะไม เหนี ย วเหนอะหนะ แต เ ราไมไ ด ติ ด ทั้ ง หมด เราติ ด เฉพาะที่ จ ำเป น 20 โครงการ คาดวาจะเสร็จโครงการนำรองสวนหนึ่งในเดือนเมษายน” ความปลอดภัย ฉกชิง วิ่งราว ลวงกระเปา? “เทียบกับในอดีต เกิดขึ้นนอยมากครับ แตก็ยังมีอยูคือพวกลวงกระเปา เราปองกันโดยมีเจาหนาที่ตำรวจในเครื่องแบบ 40 นาย นอกเครื่องแบบ 30 นาย ฝงตัวในพื้นที่ 12 นาย สารวัตรทหาร 15 นาย ตำรวจเทศกิจ 8 นาย ตำรวจทองเที่ยวอีก 7 นาย เมื่อเกิดเหตุ เพียงพอแกความตองการ” มาถึงเรื่องที่มีการพูดกันมาก การเซงรานที่มีราคาแพงเกินจริง มี นายหนาเขากวานเชารานเอาไปเซงตอในราคามหาโหด? “ตามระเบียบเราเรียกกวา การโอนสิทธิ์ เราอนุญาตใหมีการโอนสิทธิ์ ได มีการโอนสองประเภท ประเภทแรกโอนใหกับทายาท พอโอนใหบุตร สามีโอนใหภรรยา ไมวาจะโอนในขณะที่มีชีวิตอยูหรือโอนเมื่อถึงแกกรรม ตองเสียคาธรรมเนียม 2500 บาท โอนแบบที่สอง ไมใชทายาท แบบนี้เสีย คาธรรมเนียม 1 หมื่นบาท ทำไดและถูกตองตามกฏระเบียบ แตเมื่อเขา อยากจะเซงใหใครตอ อัตราการซื้อขายอยูที่ความพอใจ อันนี้เราไมสามารถ ไปตั้งกฏเกณฑได ซึ่งตรงนี้แหละที่ราคามันจะสูง ที่บอกเปนแสนก็มีจริงๆ เอางายๆ วา ใครจะมาซื้อบานเขา ก็ตองซื้อแพง เปนหลักของความพึง พอใจระหวางผูซื้อผูขาย” พวกซื้อมาแลวเซงตอเอากำไร? “อันนี้ไดยินมาเหมือนกัน แตเราก็มีหลักการปองกัน นั่นคือ คนซื้อตอง มาทำการคาดวยตัวเอง ซึ่งเจาหนาที่ของเราจะทำการสำรวจ ถาตรวจพบ เกินสี่ครั้งวา ไมใชเจาของที่ลงชื่อเชาไว เราสามารถทำการยกเลิกไดทันที เพราะวัตถุประสงคของตลาดนัดจตุจักรคือ การสรางโอกาสใหคนมีรายได และมีคนอีกมากมายที่ยังไมมีโอกาส คุณจะสังเกตเห็นตอนเย็น จะมีพวกหิ้ว ของใสถุงมาแบกะดินขายกันระเบิด ถามวาผิดไหม ผิดแนนอน แตในแง มนุษยธรรม คนเหลานี้เปนคนสุจริต อยากมีโอกาสสรางรายได นักเรียน นิสิต นักศึกษา คนวางงาน คนเหลานี้ ขายไดวันละประมาณ 200-500 บาท แตถาถูกจับจะเสียคาปรับ 200 ถูกยึดของดวย เพราะฉะนั้นคนที่มีแผง อยาเอาเปรียบสังคม เพราะดูคนรอบนอกที่เขาอยากจะเขามามากมาย แต พวกคุณเลนใชสิทธิ์ในการซื้อแผงมาไวในมือ พอคนเหลานี้เขามา พวกคุณก็ ตอวา ทำไมไมจับ เพราะฉวยโอกาสไมไดเสียคาที่ เจาหนาที่ไมกำกับดูแล ปลอยปละละเลย แตพอเรามานึกอีกแงหนึ่ง คนเหลานี้ตองหาเงินไปเลี้ยง ครอบครัว และพวกเขาก็ไมใชคนเลว ไมไดขายยาบา นองๆ เหลานี้ จะเปน กำลังสำคัญในอนาคต และเวลาขายของพวกเขาก็ไมกี่ชั่วโมง และก็ใชวาจะ ขายไดทุกคนเสมอไป นี่หลักการที่ผมใช อะลุมอะลวย ใหโอกาสแกคนที่ไมมี โอกาส ตองเอาใจเขา มาใสใจเรา และคนเหลานี้เขาไมมีเงินมาเชาแผง เหมือนรานคา เปนรายไดเล็กๆ นอยๆ ของเขาเทานั้น ประเด็นสำคัญคือ เราใหพวกเขาทำเรื่องขอบัตรอนุญาตอยางถูกตอง ใหเขาไดทดลองขาย สินคาของเขา” แลวกับคำถามวา ที่นี่เปนแหลงของผิดกฏหมาย กางเกงลีวายส กระเป า หลุ ย ส วิ ต ตอง เวอร ช าเช เสื้ อ ตราจระเข อะไรอื่ น อี ก จัดการอยางไร? “โดยหลักของกฏหมาย สิ่งของเหลานี้ตองมีผูแจงความ ซึ่งก็ตองเปน เจาของลิขสิทธิ์ ตรงนี้เปนจุดออนของกฏหมาย เราเห็นกันทนโท แตเราไม สามารถทำอะไร ถามวามีผูแจงไหม มีบางครับ ซึ่งเมื่อมีเราใหความรวมมือ จัดการตามกฏ เพราะฉะนั้น เจาของสินคาก็ตองเอาใจใสในสินคาตัวเอง ถามวา มีสินคาละเมิดลิขสิทธิ์ไหม มีแนนอน ซีดี หนัง เพลง มีใครมาแจง ผมหรือเปลาละ แตถามีเจาหนามาขอความรวมมือ ทางตลาดนัดจตุจักรก็ ยินดีใหความรวมมือครับ” บทบาทของ ผอ.หนุมเฉลิมชัย ตองดำเนินตอไป มีปญหาเขามาทุกวัน ก็แกกันทุกวัน แตก็นั่นแหละ ความวุนวายคือเสนหของตลาดนัดจตุจักร ตรงจุดไหนไมพอใจ ก็สามารถมารองเรียนไดที่ สำนักงาน ผอ.หนุมยินรับ ฟงทุกปญหาบนหลักการความอะลุมอะลวยที่ยึดถือมาโดยตลอด

“I do business based on compromising.”

“Charoem Kiewpradit” Market Director Market Director Office-Bangkok Metropolitan(Jatujak) “Jatujak weekend market is the center of people from all walk of life, all continents, all corners of the World. Everybody brings his/ her wishes along to release. Everybody spends money. But I dare tell you this, all money spent here at JJ is his/her climax based on the condition of the right price and the personal satisfactory. I travel to other countries which also have this type of market too but I fall in love with JJ more. The chaos and yelling noises of sellers are the charm of Jatujak and we have everything from toothpick to real diamond.”

On this one bright Wednesday afternoon, we have an appointment with this young Director of this JJ market in the office building. He is hiding this energetic, clearly spoken, no-nonsense but hardly stern personality. In another word, he is hard on some issues but soft on other ones appropriately.

“I was appointed to this post around the end of ’47. Jatujak Weekend Market is a unit under Bangkok Metropolitan Administration(BMA) and directly reporting to the Governor. This post is a 4 years position one and is selected and appointed by a BMA’s committee. This position is similar to the Director position of the Lottery Commission, or the Pawn Commission. I graduated from the school of laws at Chulalongkorn University, worked as an attorney and administrator at many offices, real estate-related, received my Master Degree in Aviation Administration and currently am learning to fly” However, those previous management experiences are unlike at JJ as this involves lots of people. As it’s human nature, more people, more problems. This seems more difficult to manage, doesn’t it?

“Just a rough figure of merchants now is up to 10,000 shops already. Think how busy this place is? Of course, I won’t be able to please everybody so the best policy to manage these thousands of different walk of life is to compromise as much as possible. This includes all other issues, sanitary, safety and environmental issues and etc. Ten thousands people a day, only counting the sellers though. In fact, it has to be around 30K and the first time that I came on board, it was during lots of renovations(Gov. Samuk Soonthonvej’s era), such as no car allowed as we would like to make them walking streets. It also happened that both BTS and MRT were already operational and that allows more people to come over. As of now, there are over 200K people at JJ daily and the number of foreigners from all continents has been increasing yearly too.”

Behind the higher number of people, comes the larger piles of trash?

“For dried trashes, no problem but for the wet ones they’d rather. My solution is we collect hourly and ask for their collaboration to leave the trashes at the designated spots. Trash problem can be solved but there are lots of people and maybe there are some delays. Nonetheless, if all the shops cooperate, that is not an issue.”

How about restrooms? Are they sufficient?

“From our observation, the most complaints are the need for clean restrooms including the rest of the area too and another thing is the heat.

Originally, we managed the restrooms ourselves collecting 1 THB each but it became too much a burden so we contracted out to private companies. Let them manage, improve the cleanliness and accommodation suitable to the 3 THB usage fee.”

Heat, un-easy walkway and no air-circulation?

“This is a big problem and we have long been thinking about doing something about it. Well, the original project was planned 25 years ago and the new structure will need huge amount of money. We received some collaboration from Professors at the College of Engineering to help in the study and the result was that, we need to circulate the air, we need to use the steam-fan to blow under the roofs and each project will have those fans to suck out the air thru the rooftop. At least it will decrease the temperature by 5 degrees and it won’t get sticky. However, we didn’t install those to all the projects as we only are doing that to the 20 needed projects and projecting for our pilot project to be done in April.”

How about safety, stealing, purse-snatching and pick-pocketing?

“Comparing to the early years, it happens much less but there still is some, mostly pick-pocket. Our prevention is by having 40 policemen in uniform and 30 plain-clothes ones, another 12 official scouting in the area, 15 Military-Police officers, 8 BMA policemen and 7 Tourist policemen.

Whenever there is an incident, we have enough hands for the situation.”

There are lots of middlemen buying the right for those shops and then re-leasing them with the wickedly high price?

“According to the rules, we call this transfer of the right to obtain. We allow the right to be properly transferred and there are 2 ways of doing this. First, transfer to the inherited one in the family, such as father to children, husband to wife, whether or not this is done while they are still alive or after death and there is a fee of 2500 THB however. The second one is non-relative, there is a fee for 10K THB, which is doable and by the book. This is where the price gets high and the story that was paid in 6 digits is true. Let’s say that if anyone wishes to buy his house, then one has to pay expensively. It’s the rules of satisfaction between buyer and seller.”

Those who bought the right resold them with very good profit?

“We heard of the story too but we also have some prevention plan and that is the Buyer has to do business there himself. We have our officials to keep checking on them and if we find out that they are over 4 times of having different name between the shop owner and the name on the lease, then we may revoke the lease immediately too. Because the objective of Jatujak is to create chances for people to make some living and there are so many others who still are not having this chance yet.

You may notice that in the evening there are lots of people bring along their merchandizes in the bags and lay them out for sales by the streets. If you ask if that is against the rules, of course it is but from the humanity perspective, these are good folks who wish to earn some honest money.

Students, college students and un-employed others, these folks may earn 200-250 THB a day but if they are caught they will be fined 200 THB and their stuffs confiscated too. Hence, you who have the lease on the shop, please do not take too much advantage of the society. There are lots of outsiders looking for a chance to do business here but you all are using the right to acquire those shops to be your procession. When these people invade the area, then you complain that we don’t arrest them as those are not paying rent, officials are not taking care of the issues and omitting to perform their duty. But if we think of this issue from another angle, these people have to find some money to feed their families and they are neither bad people, nor selling illegal drugs. These brothers and sisters will become our important force in the future and they just only sell things for a few hours. It doesn’t always mean everybody will be able to sell their goods either. This is my philosophy, “compromise”, “give chances to those have-nots”, “think for others as I think for myself”. These folks don’t have enough money to lease the shop and this is just tiny money only.

The important thing is we ask them to apply for the proper permit and allow them to try to sell their good.”

For the question that this is the place for bootlegs, Levi’s jeans, Louis Vitton, Versace, Crocodile and etc. How do you handle that?

“By the laws, this has to be reported and the one to do that is the copyright owner. This is the loophole of the laws. We see that in before our eyes but we cannot do anything about it. If you ask me if there was anyone ever report to us? Yes there were some and we collaborate with them by the rules. Hence, the right owners have to pay attention to their products. If you ask me whether or not there are any violation of intellectual property? Of course, there are some, CDs, Movies, Music and etc, but there isn’t anyone making a complaint. However, if we get any request then we always are willing to help out.”

The roles of this young Director will continue further. Daily problem encountered, daily problem resolved. But as they say, the Chaos is the charm of Jatujak weekend market. If there is any unsatisfactory, one may report to this young Executive’s office as he is always willing to hear those problems based on the principle of compromising that he firmly upholds.

Cloths is life “Roongchewan Dolwichit” “In each of every cloths, every design, there are so many hidden stories. It is the way of life that can describe their histories. These people mean our ancestors who are involved with the clothing business. Do you know that some of cloths were made for special occasions, for Mae Oui’s daughter’s wedding or in a very cold winter which they had to weave a very thick clothing with a big cord. I have been collecting cloths for half of my life. I have over 10,000 items of clothing which 10,000 stories are hidden in each cords and design. Do you believe that some cloths were weaved for a sorrow of a mother who lost her beloved daughter or husband? In the other hand, some cloths were weaved from love, friendship, overwhelm and warmth. If our minds are gentle and could be attracted by delicacy of cloths, we do not need to demand for unanimity and exhausted ourselves. People these days pay less and less attention on Arts and Spirituality. That’s why this world is in a big mess.

But my world with cloths is the soul that fulfills my life more meaningful. It just like a weaving, there’s no way you can rush the process of weaving same as living in your life. You should be able to have coffee in early morning and listen to birds sing. Hasty life is easy to collapse. However, cloths teach me to be more careful and appreciate every step of my life.”

Those sentences above were spoken from a thin lipped, slender, calm and graceful woman with the sense of rejoice. She is an attractive Thai woman who has passion about cloths which later on becomes her store and gallery for anybody who really interesting in cloths.

“Roongchewan Dolwichit” is her name.

“It started from me following my dad who was a government officer to many places. The generosity of local people is not caring about money. Many old people would bring cloths for my dad. I absorbed the beauty of cloths and design by then. While my dad received the cloths, those old people would tell the story of each cloths, such as, this cloths was weaved last year on his son’s ordaining day and kept for special guests. I knew right away that cloths were made not only for using but there are their own occasions, rhythms and the way of telling about culture and tradition of those communities. It is the local intelligence that was passed on for long time. How can we let this local intelligence disappear from the new world?”

“It needed to apply itself to the way it was born. But with the limitation of expenditure, Mae Oui did not have time to think about it.

So, I have told Mae Oui to do the design I wanted for 10 pieces and gave money to her in advance. This was not an investment for profit.

And what I have told Mae Oui to do, I also did not know if it was going to be sold or not. But I have made a friendship with villagers and also for them to make a living from that money. I realized that 100 Baht was valuable for them. I was lucky that those cloths were popular in Europe and Japan. But the fact is, those cloths could not be weaved in a big amount because of limited material.

Therefore, those cloths teach me not to be greedy and selfish in term of business. Was done is done. But what we get in return is sustainable friendship with all villagers. Money is not important. In the world of selfishness, this kind of friendship is really hard to find.”

“My shop at Jatujak is a shop for clothes lovers. It might be a little more expensive but I would let the customer know how long its takes for the weaver to finish. If you can find a cheaper one, I will have to say “Sorry, you can buy from that shop”. But if you really want this piece, you are welcome to come back. Follow this exclusive interview to similair with her through the product was made by hers.

How long that you run ‰this kind of business?

“It almost 2 years. At first ,My shop located the another Zone, while I was walking to this zone, I had seen The lebel “this shop For Sell“, so I liked the location, and moved the shop to locate here immedialty.”

What kind of you initially product that you sold?

“I have sold clothes, but I get it from supplier . Then sold each of them. But I got the a lot of problem,because I could not were its and the seam of garment was split out. Sometime, The foreigners needed to buy a big lots. But I could not sell them, because I was just little supplier, and I was not a whole seller. These reason led to decide that I must design by myself.”

Why did you decide to open this shop?

What sort of thing that inspired you to happy all the time?

“Humm,That time I was thought that I wished sold the kind of clothes that I preferred. I wished to risk for buying the clothes, which costed 15000 Bahts but this idea was rejected. I could not gain the profit. Because of the real cost for the clothes that I interested. It costed 1700.How could I buy when I came back my house and I got an idea that if I wished to made a casual clothes. The style of clothes was out-going. It must be pretty, and also has its own styles. So I decided to do this idea“

“Some of customer, walked in my shop and said “Hey guy, when I have opened my closet, there were all your clothes in mine ” I felt very happy, It likes clothes’s patmania”<she was smiling>

What reason that inspired you to open this clothes shop here ?

“At first, I thought that if I have done the job that be mine. I love dressing, so I had agreed with idea that I was made the kind of clothes that I preferred for selling” There is a lot of pretty product in here, Did you design its by yourself?

“Yes, I did, I saw the design from the modern magazines to mix with my idea gather, when I made the clothes. I usually think a lot of ideas. Some ideas that pretty style were not made, because my customer preferred smart style. I used to made girly style. The sell was obviously dropped. the turnovers are so slow.”

“What would you tell the people who as same as your job?

“The standard of product is important. And properly selling of product.

It not too high ,or not too low cost. The cheap price setting likes kill yourself. The customers not also believe in quality of products” “What massage do you left for you Patmania?

“Some of products in my shop was high price. It cost around 350 to 450 baht per eachs. the quality of products also high .The reasons came from designs, quality of clothes, the period of waiting the order and, the cost of clothes. Our design was slidely and comfortable clothes. These also expensive. I would like to were the comfortable clothes, so either for my customer.”<she was smiling>

How is your design and produce ‰the products?

The explore yourself for your careers that hard for somebody ,but the exploration and implementation are harder. The example one of succeed woman . you could come to talk all of the information. She willing to reveal you all.

“ I have designed twice a weeks,each design also has 4 colours. I saw the trend from foreigner magazine and bring their idea to design. She have proudly smiled and said that some clothes she did its. I have to plan to design but only

Set Up ชีวิต วิฑูร หรูสุวรรณกุล ชายวัย 40 นั่งบนเกาอี้ไมหนาราน ใสเสื้อลายเดียวที่ สกรีนขายอยูในราน เขาสงยิ้มใหกับผูที่เดินผานไปมา พรอมทั้งทำหนาครุนคิดและมองการแตงตัวของวัยรุน ที่มาเดินจตุจักรอยางสนใจ เมื่อเดินผานรานก็จะเห็น เขานั่งอยูหนาราน แตแทบจะไมรูเลยวาเขาคือ “วิฑูร หรูสุวรรณกุล” เจาของราน By Set Up ที่มีลูกคา หนุมสาวเดินเขาออกอยางไมขาดสาย มาขายของที่จตุจักรตั้งแตเมื่อไหรครับ ครั้งแรกเมื่อป 36 ตอนนั้นผมขายดอกไมแหง เพราะกำลังฮิต ขาย อยูได 4 ป พอเจอวิฤกติเศรษฐกิจป 40 ตามหางชื่อดังตางๆ ก็ลดราคา คาเชาพื้นที่ ผมเลยไปเชาพื้นที่ในหางขายผาไทยอยู 8 ป พอเศรษฐกิจดี ขึ้นพื้นที่ในหางก็ขึ้นราคา เลยกลับมาขายของที่จตุจักรอีกครั้งเมื่อป 48 กลับมาครั้งนี้ก็เปลี่ยนมาขายเสื้อยืดวัยรุนจนถึงทุกวันนี้ เพราะอะไรถึงเปลี่ยนมาขายเสื้อวัยรุน ตอนนั้นเห็นวาจตุจักรเปลี่ยนแปลงไปเรื่อย ๆ เมื่อป 2536 กลุมคน จะเปนกลุมพอบานแมบาน วัยรุนแทบจะไมมีเลย ตั้งแตมีรถไฟฟา นัก ศึกษาก็เขามาเยอะขึ้น เมื่อกลุมลูกคาเปลี่ยน พฤติกรรมการซื้อสินคาก็เริ่ม

By Set Up : Set UP life, Vitul Hrusuwankul The man in his 40s was sitting in a chair before his store, wearing a screened shirt with the same pattern as ones being offered in his store. He gave out his smiles to all the passer-bys while looking at those youngsters’ outfits intentionally as if he was contemplating of something. When passing his store, we would see him sitting there witout a distinction that he is ‘Vitul Hrusuwankul’, the owner of ‘BY SET UP’ that is visited by lots of young customers, males and females alike, steadily.

Came to sell at JJ, when?

The first time in ‘36(2536 or 1993) but I was selling dried-flowers then as they were hot items.

Doing that for 4 years ‘til the economy crisis in the ’40, then all the big name department stores decreased all the rent, so I moved to lease a place selling Thai clothes for 8 years.

Once the economy recovered, the department stores rested all the rental fee again, so I returned to JJ again in ’48. But this time I switched to selling youngsters T-shirts ‘til now.

Why changed to sell youngsters T-shirts?

Way back when, I saw that JJ was changing. In 2536, the crowd was bunches of Dads and Moms and few youngsters, once the BTS started, college students began to come. When the customers changed, buying and selling activities changed too. Goods and merchandises are targeting youngsters more, from clothings, purses and bags, shoes and etc.

So I thought if I brought Thai cloths to sell here it wouldn’t be the right place. Hence, I decided to sell youngster T-shits instead.

Why made your own brand then?

It’s value added in the future(smile) as it increases the faith in the products for the customers as our products are already cheap. Brand making, such as Tang Mo, started this way ‘til well known as it is now. We have to use this strategy to gather customers and when in the future they hear of ‘BY SET UP’, it will remind them of the quality and the right price. I hope.

BY SET UP, how did you get this name?

From my wife. At that time, she was watching this Japanese movie, if I recall that correctly, called THE RED ANT(I MOD DANG). When the RED ANT changed itself, my wife said that him changing itself is ‘SET UP’. So we started calling our shirts and store ‘BY SET UP’ since as we would like our customers to change their personality to be a bit younger and more teenagelike, once they put our shirts on.

What is the charm of JJ?

The heat(laughter)!! The customers like that. I think the strolling customers like JJ because of this charm(smile). If we put an A/C on, folks may not come by as they’d rather go to the department stores instead, right? Another thing is, most of the goods here are ‘handmade’.

Small industry with male and female merchants who sell their own products, made and designed by themselves.

How do you do your marketing?

Focus on the right price. If you buy 2 shirts, we give you 10% discount for your goodwill.

When they return to JJ again, they would think of our shop. If without a discount, they may buy 1 from us and then 1 from another store. If we give discount, we get more quantity per customer and we make more profit as well.

How do you feel about being a T-shirt merchant at JJ?

Life is good now. Nowadays, I live for Sat-Sun. I come here to sit in front of the shop watching people walking by. To admire the braveness of these young people for having the courage to openly put on their outfits. I come here to observe the fashion trend and liking of new clothing style, so I can update myself regularly. Sitting here is lively, unlike sitting at the malls. The market is alive with lots of youngsters, male and female, strolling around.

Watching them by already gives me the happiness. Strolling at JJ will get you goodies, uncommon stuffs with good prices, so heat is not that fearfully important for customers(smile).

Mind Spec ของ “ลีลา” “Mind Spec” รานขายเครื่องหนังมีดีไซน ตั้งตัวเองอยูที่โครงการ 16 ซอย 24 /1 ภายใน รานขายเสินคาหลากหลายประเภทที่ทำจากหนัง จัดเรียงไวอยางสวยงาม กับหญิงสาวผอมบาง ที่นั่งอยูดานในราน “LEELA SAE-ANG” หรือ “ลีลา” อายุ 29 ป กับภารกิจการผูบริหารราน และดีไซนเนอร ผูหญิงเล็กๆ กับกิจการขนาดใหญ เธอทำไดอยางไร ไปเรียนรูวิธีคิดและวิธีการทำงาน ของเธอกัน เขาสูธุรกิจเครื่องหนัง จริงๆ แลวเปนกิจการของครอบครัว ทำมาหลายปแลว เห็นมา ตั้งแตเด็กๆ แตเลิกทำไปสักพัก เพิ่งมาเริ่มทำใหมตอนป 2001 เพราะ เราเองซึมซับการทำเครื่องหนังมาตั้งแตเด็กๆ ที่สำคัญก็ชอบอยูแลว ดวย งานเครื่องหนังจึงเปรียบเสมือนเปนครอบครัว ตอนนี้มีแม พี่สาว นองชาย ก็รวมกันทำ อีกอยางเครื่องจักรก็ยังมีอยู แตเมื่อคิดจะทำ ก็ เจอปญหาอุปสรรคเยอะมาก ทั้งเรื่องหาลูกคาและหาชาง แตโชคดีมีชาง คนเกาเปนญาติๆ ที่อยูใกลบานกันทั้งนั้น เลยชวนกลับมาทำอีกครั้ง แต บางคนก็ไมทำแลว เพราะทนกลิ่นและฝุนไมไหว เริ่มตนอีกครั้ง...

3 ปแรกที่เริ่มทำขาดทุน.. (คิด) ทอเลยคะ ก็คิดในตอนนั้นวามันไม สวยหรูไวอยางที่คิด งานมีนอยมาก ในตอนนั้นไมรูวาเราทำงานไมคอยดี หรือเปลาถึงทำใหลูกคามีนอย ชวงนั้นหาลูกคายากมาก แตก็พยายามทำ ตอ ตอนหลังพอมีลูกคามากขึ้น และไดไปออกงานที่เมืองทองธานี ลูกคาก็ เริ่มเห็นงาน ซึ่งระยะหลังชิ้นงานมีคุณภาพมากขึ้น ก็มีการบอกตอกันไป ปากตอปาก กอนหนานี้รับออเดอรทำเฉพาะเฟอรนิเจอร แตหลังๆ ก็ทำหมด เลย ทั้งการตกแตงประตู ผนังหอง ตูเสื้อผา โดยใชเครื่องหนัง นอกจากนี้ก็ ยังทำกระเปา เข็มขัด อุปกรณสำนักงาน คิดอะไรไดที่ตรงใจกับลูกคาก็ทำ หมด จุดเดนสินคา เราใชวัสดุที่ดีทั้งหมด เชน ที่อื่นอาจใชกระดาษปอนดทำโครง แตเราใช ไมทำโครง ใชหนังเทียมเกรด A ทั้งหมด ก็บอกลูกคาตรงๆ วาหนังเทียม แต เปนหนังเทียมอยางดี และพวกกาวหรือวัสดุตางๆ ใชของคุณภาพดีราคาสูง ทั้งหมด เพราะเราเนนใชงานไดนาน อยากใหลูกคาชอบใจและกลับมาซื้อ สินคาชนิดอื่นเพิ่มขึ้นมากกวา ไมอยากใหเขาใชไปไดสักพักแลวพังตองทิ้งคะ และเราก็ออกแบบสินคาเองหลายๆ ชิ้น พยายามดูตลาดแลวก็ทำขึ้นเพื่อตอบ สนองความตองการของลูกคา โดยเฉพาะ อุปกรณสำนักงาน แบบตางๆ เริ่มตนในจตุจักร เพิ่งเริ่มมาขายได 6 เดือนเองคะ เพราะเราอยากมีหนารานโชวสินคา และ เคยไปออกงานที่เมืองทองเจอปญหาวาเราไมมีชื่อสินคา ไมมีรานเปนของตัวเอง เลยเริ่มคิดอยากมีหนาราน แตถาไปขายที่อื่นก็ไมไดเพราะลูกคาเราก็มีหนารานวาง ขาย เชน ไนทบาซา หรือตามหางตางๆ เดี๋ยวจะไปแยงลูกคากันเปลาๆ เลยคิดถึง จตุจักร เพราะเดินทางสะดวก หลายๆ อยางสามารถอำนวยความสะดวกได เลยมา เชารานที่นี่ และตั้งชื่อแบรนดสินคาและชื่อรานวา “Mind Spec”

MIND SPEC OF LEELA “MIND SPEC”, a designer leather-store, is located at Section 16, soi 24/1.

In the store, ther are full of varieties of leather goods, beautifully and neatly set and also this thin-looking young lady sitting inside. She is called “LEELA SAE-ANG” or “LEELA” , 29 years old with heavy duty as the store manager and designer. A small lady with this size of business, how can she possibly do that? Let’s go take a peak at her thinking and working method then.

ENTERING THE LEATHER BIZ

In fact, this has been her family business for a long time. Grew up seeing that since young ago, took some sabbabical for a while before returning to that again in 2001, as we absorbed those leather work technics since childhood. More importantly, I liked that to begin with so Leather work is like a family. At this moment, there are my mother, older sister and younger bro together in this with all the current machinery. Once the decision was made there were lots of ostacles, from seeking and locating customers as well as leather makers. However, we were lucky that there were some old leather makers, who are our relatives, living near by, so we asked them to come back and help. Some gave up as they couldn’t tolerate the smell and dust anymore.

The first 3 years under the red-line(thinking), we almost gave up, thinking at that time that it wasn’t as glamour as once thought. So few orders and we weren’t sure if our work was good enough and that might turn our customers away. It was difficult to find a customer but we kept on trying. Later on, when we acquired more customers and joined an exhibit at Muang Thong Tani, cutomers got a chance to see our works, which were better in quality than the ones before. Then that when the wordof-mouth started. Prior to that time, we had only taken orders for furnitures but later on we took on everything, door decoration, walls, clothing cabinets by using leather.

Moreover, we make purses, belts, office accessories and anything suitable to customers’ ideas.

PRODUCTS STRONG POINTS

We use very good materials, for instance, others may use thick paper to make the frame but we use wood. All A-grade leather-like materials are used and we tell the customers that it is non-genuine leather but it is a very good artificial one. All glues as well as other materials used are the best grade and high price as we strongly focusing on the durability. Prefer to see the customers enjoying our products and come back for other products instead of dishing our away after using it only a few times. We decide many products ourselves by watching the market and trying to what the customers want, especially various kinds of office accessories.

STRTING AT JJ

Starting about 6 months ago as we would like to have a store-front to show our products. We used to go to exhibits at Muang Thong and realized that we didn’t have any name for the products and no store for ourselves. Hence, we thought

about this store-front but if we were to do this elsewhere we may lose our customers as our customers also have some store-fronts, such as at Night Bazaar or other department stores. Didn’t want to fight with our customers over the same customers, we thought of Jatujak as it is very convenient and well provided, so we rented this place and named our brand and the shop as “MIND SPEC” RESULT FROM 6 MONTHS AT JJ

Well, (thinking) we have got more customers as we previously were known by customers only from word-of-mouth. However, once we started our shop here, we have lots more new-comers, both retails and wholesales. They see something different and beautiful then they ask for our business card. That gives us more non-regular customers. For retails, we sell 70-80 % to Foreigners but for wholesales or good sized-products, we still do more with Thai customers. Unfortunately, we can’t open for so many days (laughter).

MIND SPEC causes discovery

We have found that we have this ability(smile) as I was not a real good student and never thought to do the business this size before. When I was so shy as a child, not much as a talker, not often reply once asked either, quite and not fidgeting not too responsive towards strangers. Even with our customers, if not so familiar with I would seldom talk to and that is, maybe, an obstacle to gain more customers(smile). But after awhile, our experience has taught us that our good customer relationship brings success. I talk more now.

ONCE THERE IS A PROBLEM, HOW DO WE SOLVE THAT.

Will continue to do this and will try to do that again and again ‘til succeeded. If we can’t succeed that today, then we will do that again tomorrow. Today, the customers have not called, then they may call tomorrow. That what I try to think.

“Do good or not do good, it’s up to ourselves.”She said at the end of our conversation and further elaborated that she works 7 days without a holiday. So with little time to rest, that gave her lots of time to think about lots of things and made her feel a bit more mature. From the business started by her family that opened up the way for her as a child ‘til when it was closed down when she grew up. We believe that without the will power and full energy this lady has, this business wouldn’t have existed or even recovered at all.

(คิด) เราไดลูกคาเพิ่มขึ้นมากกวาแตกอน เพราะวาเมื่อกอนถาลูกคาจะรูจักเราก็เกิดจากการบอกตอ แตพอมาเปดรานที่นี่ลูกคาหนาใหมมีเยอะ ทั้ง ขายสงและขายปลีก เขาเห็นของแปลกและสวย เขาก็ขอนามบัตรไป ทำใหเราลูกคาขาจรเยอะขึ้น ถาเปนการขายปลีกจะไดกับตางชาติ 70-80 % แตถาขายสง หรือสั่งทำชิ้นใหญ ๆ ก็ยังเปนลูกคาคนไทยคะ เสียดายที่เปดไดไมกี่วันแหละคะ (หัวเราะ) Mine spec ทำใหคนพบ.... เราคนพบวาตัวเองก็มีความสามารถ (ยิ้ม) จริง ๆ ไมไดเรียนเกงเลย ไมคิดวาจะมาทำงานไดขนาดนี้เหมือนกัน ตอนเด็กๆ ก็ไมคอยพูด ขี้อาย ใครชวนพูด ก็ไมพูดเลยนะ เฉยๆ คนแปลกหนาไมรูจักก็ไมคุย ลูกคาไมสนิทสนมก็คุยนอย คงเปนอุปสรรคดวยหรือเปลาที่ทำใหไดลูกคานอย (ยิ้ม) แตพอทำนานขึ้น ประสบการณตัวเองก็สอนเรา วาเรามนุษยสัมพันธดีความสำเร็จก็เกิด ตอนนี้คุยเยอะขึ้น เวลาเกิดปญหา เราแกปญหาอยางไร ก็ทำไปเรื่อยๆ คะ ก็พยายามเรียบเรียงใหม เดี๋ยวมันก็สำเร็จเอง คือถาวันนี้ทำไมได พรุงนี้ก็ทำไดเอง วันนี้ลูกคายังไมติดตอมา พรุงนี้ก็ติดตอมา พยายามคิดแบบนี้ “ทำดี ทำไมดี ก็อยูที่ตัวเราเอง” เธอทิ้งทายการพูดคุย และเธอยังเลาใหฟงอีกวาตองทำงานทั้ง 7 วัน ไมมีวันหยุดเลย เวลาพักผอนนอย ทำใหเธอไดคิดเยอะขึ้น จนทำใหรูสึกวาตัวเองโตขึ้น จากธุรกิจที่ครอบครัวเคยเปดทางเอาไวเมื่อครั้งยังเปนเด็กและไดปดตัวลงไปเมื่อเธอโตขึ้น แตเราเชื่อวา ธุรกิจนี้ไมสามารถกอราง สรางขึ้นมาใหมอีกครั้งไดแน ถาไมไดแรงใจและพลังที่อยูในตัวเธอคนนี้ “ลีลา” กับ MInd Spec ที่กำลังเริ่มตนสรางแบรนดดวยหัวใจแหงความรักในเครื่องหนัง ไป เลือกชมเครื่องหนังหลากหลายดีไซน เกไก ไดคุณภาพ ไดที่โครงการ 16 ซอย 24/1 แผง 236 หรือโทรศัพทไปไดที่ 081-491-2006

ขายโคมไฟ...อาชีพแหงการคนพบตัวเอง “เลือกชมไดตามสบายเลยครับ” เสียงของหนุมหนาใสวัย 25 ป “สุวิชชา สุรางแสงมีบุญ” หรือ “ตน” สงรอยยิ้มทักทาย ตอนรับลูกคาที่เดินเขามารานสมนึกโคมไฟ เมื่อลูกคาสอบถามถึง สินคาแตละชิ้น เขาก็อธิบายสินคาผานรอยยิ้มอยางมีความสุข เขาคนพบอะไรสำหรับอาชีพขายของในตลาดนัดจตุจักร ตามมา รูจักเขากัน ที่รานขายอะไรครับ (ยิ้ม เริ่มเลยใชมั๊ยครับ) ขายโคมไฟสไตลโบราณ ทั้งการดีไซนใหมและการนำแบบ โบราณมาทำใหม เปนงานที่มีจุดเดนดานดีไซนที่มีความคลาสิก ดูออนชอย สไตลยุโรป เปนสวนใหญและของไทยก็ผสมบาง มีสวนในการสรางรานนี้ขึ้นมาอยางไร จริงๆ กิจการนี้เปนของที่บานอยูแลว เดิมเมื่อกอนนาเขยทำธุรกิจนี้อยู พอนาเขย เสียชีวิตนาสาวก็มาขายของแทน ผมก็ไดเขามาคลุกคลีที่รานอยูเปนประจำ พอผมเรียน จบ ก็แยกมาเปดรานเองและเขามาทำเต็มตัว เรียนจบอะไรมาครับ ทำไมถึงมาเปดรานเอง ไมเลือกไปทำงานบริษัท วิศวกรไฟฟา มหาวิทยาลัยสยามครับ ตอนจบใหมๆ ก็ไปทำงานออกแบบไฟฟา นั่งอยูหนาคอมฯ ตลอด ผานไปครึ่งป ก็ลาออก พยายามหางานเซลลเอ็นจิเนียรเพราะ รูสึกวาชอบ แตตอนนั้นที่บานไมมีคนชวยเลยเขามาทำเต็มตัว ก็ถือวาเปนกิจการของเรา เอง เลยไดมาอยูตรงนี้ อะไรคือความกาวหนาในอาชีพขายของ งานสามารถไปไดไกล เปนงานถือวาเปนอีกอาชีพหนึ่งที่นาสนใจครับ ผมไดทำงาน ที่เปนของตัวเอง ตองรับผิดชอบเยอะมาก (หัวเราะ) และตองทำทุกอยางเลยทั้งการดูแล ลูกคา การตลาด บัญชี หาสินคา ติดตอกับบริษัทผูผลิต และบางครั้งก็ออกแบบโคมไฟ เองครับ ก็ทาทายความสามารถดีครับ วิธีเลือกแบบสินคา ผมจะดูกอนอันดับแรกคือแปลก ไมมีใหเห็นในตลาด หลังจากนั้นผมก็ดูที่คุณภาพ และลักษณะการใชงานครับ ซึ่งถาไมเหมือนคนอื่นผมก็ถือวาแปลกแลวครับ สินคาผมก็มี นำเขามาจากประเทศอินเดีย และมีบางที่ผลิตในประเทศไทย แลวก็รับสินคามาจากราน นาผมที่อยูโครงการ 26 มาครับ เพราะทางรานนาเขามีการติดตอกับกลุมผูผลิตโดยตรง กลุมลูกคาของรานละครับ กลุมลูกคาของผมสวนใหญเปนชาวตางชาติ และคนไทยที่ชอบโคมไฟสไตลโบราณ ไปตกแตงบาน หรือกลุมลูกคาที่มีรีสอรท , สปา ,รานอาหาร

ยอนอดีตจตุจักรกับชีวิตวัยเด็กใหฟงหนอยครับ ตอนนั้นอายุ 13 ป ก็เขาไปนั่งอยูรานนาเขยเปนประจำ เห็นผูคนพลุกพลานกวานี้ กำลังซื้อเยอะ การแขงขันก็ไมสูง เมื่อนึกถึงโคมไฟโบราณในสมัยนั้น ก็ตองคิดถึงรานนาผม จริงๆ แลวตอนเด็กผมไมชอบการขายของเลย อาจเพราะ ความเปนเด็กที่อยากอยูบาน ดูหนัง เลนกับเพื่อน ทำไมเรา ตองมาอยูตรงนี้ดวย แตพอโตมาผมก็เปลี่ยนความคิด แลวทำไมถึงเปลี่ยนความคิดตอนโตขึ้น ผมคิดวาผมอยากมีกิจการของตัวเอง (ยิ้ม) เราทำมาก ไดมาก เราทำนอยไดนอย (หัวเราะ) ซึ่งการมีกิจการตัวเองก็ ทำใหมีรายไดดวย จริงๆ ผมชอบงานในลักษณะการสื่อสาร การพูดคุยกับผูคน มากกกวาทำงานดานเอกสาร หรือนั่งหนา จอคอมพิวเตอรเปนวัน ๆ แลวรูสึกอยางไรเมื่อมาขายของเต็มตัว ถาขายไดจะมีความสุขมาก (หัวเราะ) หลัก ๆ แลวเรารู ตั้งแตแรกแลวหละวางานขายของรายไดไมแนไมนอน ทำใจ ไดครึ่งหนึ่งแลวตอนเริ่มขาย แตพอขายไมได ก็ยังทำใจไมได อยูดี (หัวเราะดังขึ้น) คิดวาจตุจักรมีจุดดี จุดดอย อะไรบางครับ ผมคิดวาจตุจักรมีของที่หลากหลาย สามารถตอรอง ราคาได สินคาสวนใหญก็จะเปนสินคา handmade ที่มีวาง ขายไมคอยเยอะ เสนหของมันคงจะอยูที่นี่ครับ สวนจุดดอย อืมมม (คิดนาน) คงจะรอนมั้งครับ หาที่จอดรถยากดวย เราคนพบอะไรในตัวเองบางจากการมาขายของ ผมคิดวาผมคนพบความรับผิดชอบสำหรับตัวเอง การ ทำงานที่เปนอิสระ มีความสุขครับกับตรงนี้ (ยิ้ม) เมื่อการสนทนาจบลง เขาก็วิ่งไปตอนรับลูกคาหนารานใน ทันที เมื่อลูกคาของเขาสนใจพัดลมทองเหลืองสไตลโบราณ เขาอธิบายสินคาชิ้นนั้นเปนภาษาอังกฤษ และสงรอยยิ้มตลอด เวลาของการพูดคุย เมื่อลูกคาเดินจากไปเขายังโคงคำนับ ขอบคุณ นี่คงเปนความสุขที่ยิ่งใหญกับการทำงานเล็ก ๆ ที่ ตัวเองมีใจรัก

What did you sell?

(He was smiled) ”Do we start?, antique lamp with new design and remake the antique style . My work has advantage in classic design ,graceful in European pattern.The most of my product is European style.The remain is Thai.”

Did all of this business was you idea?

“Actually, This kind of business is my parent’s business .my uncle-in-law have done this business.Then he died.My aunt-in-law took over replace him.Since then ,IAlways come here to associate with her. When I graduated from a university. I decided to open my own lamp shop ,and run this kind of business.”

“Electrical engineering ,Siam University.when I just graduated .My job is electrical designer.I always sit in front of computer all day long.About mid-year.I decide to quit this job,and sought the new job.I preferred to be Sale engineering ,because I like it.At that time ,no one available to take care lamp shop,so I decided to take over it.”

What is the progress in this career?

“This kind of work could go further.I thought is very interest.I work with my own.I do everything include customer service marketing accounting inventory contract with supplier.Sometimes ,I design with my own.It was challeng me.”

How did you select the product?

“First, I looked for difference ,There are not in the current market.Then the quality,I export some product from India.Some of product was made in Thailand ,and pick the inventory from my aunt shop ,which stayed in project 26 .She always directly contract with wholseller.The most of target are foreigners ,and the other is Thai ,or group of resort ,spa,and restaurant.”

Could you tell you old memory,when you was young?

“When I was 13 yeas old ,I always stay in uncle-in-law shop .There are a lot of crowd.There are not too much lamp shop,and competitions.When people need to buy a lamp,they will come to his shop.

Actually,I don’t like to be shopkeeper.I like to see a cinema,and hang out with friends.Sometimes ,I ask myself that why I have to be here,but when I grew up .My mind was changed” How is changed?

“I thought I wish to have business of my own.If I do more,I will get more.If I do less ,I will get less.I can get more income.I like to communicate with people.

I don’t like to work in office.I hated work with documentary and sit in front of computer all day .”

How do you feel ? when you walk through this business?

“I will be happy,If I can sold my product.eventhogh could not predited the income.i encourage myself before I do this business ,but it not help too much ,if I could not sold my product.” what is the advantage and disadvantage of Jatujuk squar market?

“There are many things in here.You can negotiateable the price.The most of product is handmade product .It was rare.,and the other hand is Hummm .It was hot,and hardly find the carparks.”

What do you learn from lamp shop?

“I learn to handle with high responsible, independent work,and 1 always happiness” (He was smiled) When the interview was ended .He ran to welcome the customer who come to his shop immediately.Then his customer was attracted by gold bronze antuiqe electric fan.He explain the information of product in English ,and smiled all the time that he had spoken.While his customer was walking out of the shop .He blow for their grateful.That is a happiness in his lovely small shop

หลายคนไปเที่ยวตลาดนัดจตุจักร คงจะเคยเห็นการขอรับบริจาคของกลุมนักเรียนนักศึกษาหรือกลุมตาง ๆ ที่ใชพื้นที่แหง นี้ในการขอรับบริจาคเงินจากผูจิตศรัทธาตามเปาหมายและวัตุประสงคแตละคน บางคนใชเสียง ใชเครื่องดนตรี หรือ ตะโกนเชิญชวน แตมีผูชายคนหนึ่งเลือกที่จะนั่งเงียบ ๆ แตงกายดวยเสื้อผา หมวก รองเทา ที่เปนสีขาว แมกระทั่งหนาก็ เปนสีขาว นั่งอานหนังสือพิมพที่ถืออยูในมือ 1 ฉบับ ขางกายมีรูปเหตุการณ 3 จังหวัดชายแดนภาคใตวางอยู มองแต ไกลคิดวา “หุน” เพราะเขานั่งนิ่งเหมือนปูนปนเลยทีเดียว ยากที่จะเดาวาเขาคือใคร มานั่งที่นี่เพื่ออะไร เดินเขาไปคุยและ ทำความรูจักกับเขากันครับ เลาขานที่มา... โชติธรรม อรรถบดี ชื่อเลน โดมครับ ผมเปนคนปตตานี แตตอนนี้เรียนอยูมหาวิทยาลัยราชภัฎเพชรบุรี ผมเปนคนปตตานีแตไปเรียนอยูที่วิทยาลัยเทคนิค ยะลาตอนชวงเหตุการณไมสงบเกิดขึ้นรุนแรงมากในพื้นที่ ผมเลยใชเวลาวางสมัครเขาไปเปนอาสาสมัครศูนยกูภัยแมกอเหนี่ยวยะลา ก็ไดเขาไปชวยเหลือผูท่โี ดน ทำรายจากกลุมที่กอความไมสงบ ทำใหเห็นการสูญเสีย เห็นการทำราย เห็นน้ำตาของครอบครัวเหลานั้น ผมเลยคิดวาตองทำอะไรสักอยางในเวลาวางที่เหลือ พอ มาเรียนที่เพชรบุรี ผมก็เอาชุดมาทาสีขาว แตงหนาขาว แลวนั่งเปดหมวกรับบริจาคแตสวนหนึ่งก็มาจากนาชายผมเปนตำรวจและเสียชีวิตไปกับเหตุการณไมสงบ ภาคใตดวย เมื่อวันที่ 20 ตุลาคม 2547 ตอนนั้นผมอยู ปวช.ป 3 ทำใหผมเขาใจคำวาสูญเสียมากขึ้น สีขาวสื่อความบริสุทธิ์ ที่เปนสีขาวเพราะผมรูสึกวาสีขาวเปนสีที่บริสุทธิ์ ผมมานั่งนิ่งๆ ไมคุยกับใคร เหมือนหุนปูนปน ซึ่งผมคิดวาเปรียบเสมือนกับคนในพื้นที่ ซึ่งตอนนี้เหมือนกับตายทั้ง เปน มีความหวาดระแวง มีการสูญเสีญบุคคลอันเปนที่รักของครอบครัวไป คนสวนใหญที่สูญเสียไปเปนคนบริสุทธิ์เกือบทั้งนั้น เขาไมมีปากไมมีเสียง ไมสามารถ สื่อสารอะไรได เขาอานแคหนังสือพิมพ คนในสังคมก็รูจักความรุนแรงในบานของเขาก็ผานหนังสือพิมพและสื่ออื่นๆ ผมเลยเลือกที่จะนั่งเปนหุนแข็งแลวอาน หนังสือพิมพ และสรางความเขาใจและรับรูถึงสถานการณปญหาใหกับคนในสังคมรู โดยมีภาพเหตุการณติดไวฟวเจอรบอรด กับขอความเชิญชวนผูมีจิตศรัทธา บริจาคเงิน ผมไมพูด คนเห็นรูปเห็นขอความ เขาอยากชวยก็ชวย แตถาเขาไมอยากชวยก็ถือวาทำตามจุดประสงคที่วางไวตั้งแตแรกก็คืออยากเผยแพรวาคนใน พื้นที่ 3 จังหวัดชายแดนภาคใตเกิดเหตุการณอะไรขึ้นบาง เหตุการณที่เกิดขึ้นโหดรายขนาดไหนกับคนบริสุทธิ์ อยากใหคนไทยลุกขึ้นตอตาน จุดหมายของเงินบริจาค ผมก็เอาไปชวยเหลือเรื่องทุนการศึกษานองๆ นักเรียน นักศึกษาที่กำพราพอแม และ จุนเจือครอบครัวที่ไดรับผลกระทบจากการสูญเสียบุคคล ที่ รั ก ในครอบครั ว จาก

เหตุการณ ความไมสงบภาคใต ผมจะใหทุนละ 1,000 บาทตอเด็ก นักเรียน 1 คน เลือกที่นี่ จตุจักร มานั่งตั้งแตเดือนกันยายน ตรงไหนนั่งแลวสะดวกตอการเปดใหคน ไดอานขอความไดเห็นภาพ ก็นั่งเลยครับ บางทีก็โดนเจาของรานไลบาง เพราะไปเกะกะหนารานเขา มาที่นี่เพราะคนเยอะดีครับ (ยิ้ม) ตอนเรียน ที่ยะลา ผมก็แตงชุดขาวใสหมวก 1 ใบ ไปนั่งตลาดนัดเหมือนกัน แต ตอนนั้นชาวบานไมคอยสนใจ นาจะเปนเหตุการณที่เขาเคยชินหรือเปลา ไมรูเลยไมคอยมีใครบริจาค พอมาเรียนที่เพชรบุรีก็ไปนั่งที่ตลาดนัดอีก ไปเกือบทุกอาทิตย จนชาวบานเดินเขามาหาผมบอกวาอาทิตยที่แลว บริจาคไปแลวเลยไมบริจาคอีก แตที่จตุจักรมีคนเดินผานไปมาจำนวน มาก แตละอาทิตยก็ไมซ้ำกัน เลยไดรับบริจาคจำนวนเยอะเหมือนกัน ชีวิตหุน...ในจตุจักร นั่งวันแรกไดมาสามพันบาทครับ (ยิ้ม) ตกใจมากครับที่มีคนบริจาค จำนวนเยอะขนาดนี้ ก็ดีใจที่มีคนทั่วไปใหความสำคัญและเห็นประโยชน กับสิ่งที่ผมทำ บางคนก็บริจาค 5 บาท 2 บาท หรือ 50 สตางคยังมีเลย ครับ (ยิ้ม) มีบางคนก็มาถามวาเอาเงินไปไหน หรือบางคนก็มองผมแบบ

วา บาหรือเปลา มานั่งแตงตัวประหลาดนั่งอยูทำไมแถวนี้ ก็มาได 4 ครั้งแลว เพราะบางอาทิตยติดทำรายงานก็ไมมา ถึงวันนี้ไดเงินบริจาคมาแลวเกาพันบาท ก็ เพิ่งเอาไปมอบใหวิทยาลัยเทคนิคยะลา 5,000 บาทครับ ก็จำนวน 5 ทุน และ ก็ไดไปมอบที่โรงเรียนคณะราษฎรบำรุงจังหวัดยะลา อีก 2 ทุน 2,000 บาทครับ และมอบใหศูนยกูภัยแมกอเหนี่ยวยะลาอีก 1,000 บาท เก็บไวในบัญชีกองทุนอีก 1,000 บาทครับ เมื่อวันที่ 16 พฤศจิกายน นี่เองครับ เปนเงินที่ไดรับบริจาคมาจาก คนในจตุจักรทั้งหมดเลย จริงๆ แลวผมเคยไปนั่งที่หมอชิต แตก็โดนเทศกิจไลครับ อาจเปนพื้นที่เอกชนดวยมั้งครับ ไปแลวโดนไลทุกทีผมก็เลยไมไปอีก มานั่งที่นี่ แหละครับ คนเดินเยอะดี (ยิ้ม) และสุดทายที่ฝากไว “อยากใหเหตุการณในภาคใต สงบลงโดยเร็ว โดมไมอยากเห็นใครบริจาคเงินเพื่อ ชวยเหลือเด็กนักเรียนที่สูญเสียพอแมจากเหตุการณนี้อีก”

asking faithful folks to donate. I don’t talk, when passer-bys see the photos and the notes and if they are willing to help, then, by all means, help. But if they don’t want to, then I complete my first mission, to create awareness that our people in those 3 provinces along the border have to deal with those situations.

How cruel those things are happening to those innocents. How I wish for us to stand up and resist that.

Many people who have been to JJ market might have seen groups of students and college students who use this area to ask for charity and donation from passer-bys for whatever the objectives and goals of their projects.

Someone may use sounds, musical instruments or yelling loudly to as invitation but there is a man who choose to sit quietly with that white costume of his, white pants and shirt, white hat, white shoes and even painted face in white. Sitting there reading the newspaper in his hands, having the photos of the incidences happening in the farthest 3 Southern provinces. Seeing him from afar one would think that is a PUPPET as he sits still as a piece of crafted cement. It’s hard to guess who he is and why he is sitting here. So let’s walk in and get to know this guy then.

I will give out as scholarship and aid to those kids, students, those orphans and support families who are effected by losing those loved ones from the unrest in the South. I will give out 1000 THB/1 student.

I have been here since September. Wherever the location is convenient and suitable for folks to read the notes and view the photos, then that where I sit.

Sometimes, I was chased away by some shop owners as I was obstructing their stores. I come here because there are lots of people(smile) While attending the school in Yala, I put on a white hat and a white outfit and went to sit at some market too. But not many interests there. Maybe it’s the situation that they were so used to or NOT, but there wasn’t lots of donation. Once I moved to Petchaburi I went to sit at an open market again, almost every weekend ‘til some folks walked up to me and said that thay alread donated the weekend before so they weren’t giving me again this week. But when I came to JJ, there were lots of people walking by and they are unrepeated each week, so there are more donation as well.

How it began

MIME’s life in JJ

Chotedham Auttabordee, nickname DOME, I am from Pattani and current going to Rachapaj University – Petchaburi campus. I am from Pattani but I went to Yala Technical school when there was a serious crisis in the area. I then spent my free time as a volunteer at Mae Kor Niew Yala’s Emergency Rescue Center. I had chances to go rescue victims wounded by those insurgents. Saw lots of losses, assaults, tears of those families, I decided to do something when free from school. When I moved to Petchaburi, I coated my clothes in white, put on make up and sat with open-hat for donation. But one thing that drives me is that one of my uncles, who was a cop, lost his life to this unrest on 20 OCT 2547 when I was in my junior year at the technical school. That made me undestand the loss much more.

I got 3000 THB the first day(smile). I was taken aback to see so many people donating this much. I was happy to see that regular people see the importance and the benefits of the things that I do.

Some gave 5 THB, 2THB or even ½ THB(smile). Someone asked me what I will d o with all the money or someone gave me the look that they wondered if I was mad or something to sit around here with this outfit. I have been here 4 times already as some weekend I had to do some reports. Up-to-date donation is 9000 THB, which I gave to Yala Technical College for 5000 THB for 5 scholarships.

I also submitted some to Kanarasadorn School, Yala Province, 2 more scholarships, 2000 THB and 1000 THB to Mae Kor Niew Yala’s Emergency Rescue Center and left over in the donation account 1000 THB as of this past 16 NOV. They were all donations from folks in JJ totally. In fact, I used to sit at Mo Chit but the BKK Metropolitan Officers chased me out. Maybe it was some private land, I guess as I was chased away each time I went there so I stopped going.

Coming over here is very good as there are lots of people(smile).

White to show purity.

It’s white because I think it’s the color of purity I am sitting still here not talking to anyone like a piece of limestone which I think reflect the people in those areas. They are like dead while still living. There are scares, losses of loved ones from the family. Most of the losses were innocents. They couldn’t say anything. No representation. Just sit there and read newspaper. Folks in our society learn about the violences there via newspapers as well as other medias. So I chose to sit as a puppet, read newspaper and create some understanding and awareness of the situation to others in the society. By hanging some photos of the situations on the future board with invitation notes

Exotic Homemade ice-cream Try this home-made coconut ice-cream, it’s been here for 3 years now, the owner, “P’Nop” and “P’Jamriang” owned this secret homemade recipe which is originated from Chonburi’s Bangsaen district.

It is now the one and only place in Jatujak which featured this rich coconut ice-cream. The owner guarantees that their ice-cream is unique because it is made by real young coconut flesh and not the normal coconut cream ice-cream. One cup is only 12 baht.

The atmosphere of this shop is simple and comfortable, there’s only 10 chairs, no tables. But when you’re tired from all day non-stop shopping in a hot weather like Bangkok, a nice chair and a cup of ice-cream is all you need to boost your energy and prepare for another round of shopping.

This homemade coconut ice-cream shop is located in zone (project) 1. Walk 30 meters straight from MRT Kampangpetch station, then you will see this shop on your left.

From JJ market entrance 1, turn right, walk straight for another 30 meters, the ice-cream shop is on your right, opposite the North-eastern style Papapa salad restaurant where you can first stop by to have spicy E-san food, and cool it down later with the coconut ice-cream.

Japanese Bite and Fresh fruit smoothies It’s never too difficult to find a Japanese-style food stall in JJ market. One place we recommend is “Sushi”. The food stall is decorated in a Japanese theme, with a blue flag pitched at the front of the shop, 3 wooden tables and chairs but still the shop has plenty of rooms to fit group of friends stopping by for a Japanese bite.

Its special menu is, of course, specially made and various kinds of sushi as well as famous Japanese dumpling “Takoyaki”. The owner, P’Fao says (he)she loves Japanese food so much (he)she decides to open this stall, which is now 9-month-old.

If sushi makes you feel thirsty, you can order fresh fruit smoothies from next door, which P’Fao guarantees you shouldn’t miss it. And it’s not just fresh fruit smoothies, there are plenty of Thai desserts to try including mango and sticky rice, Thai-style dessert with ice or sipping a cup of coffee.

The duo band is called “Lung Teh and Lan Ice” which can be translated as “Uncle Teh and Little Ice” “I have been here for 3 years, my hometown is in Saraburi, the peak time of my career was during when the US’ G.I entered Thailand, I used to perform electone in bars. Later, I moved to Bangkok hoping for a brighter fortune. I never considered myself a failure, I’ve formed several bands with my friends, but unfortunately, I was cheated by my band mates. Being in a band during that time was pretty hard. You don’t know what’s going to happen, but performing here, I can make a living, although you can never guarantee how much you will get at the end of the day”. ”Two years ago, I played and sing by myself, but then my health was not well, so I thought of bringing my nephew “Ice” to attract passerby, which luckily, it really works. What we do here make us realize the kindness of fellow Thai people. I think Thais are the world’s most generous and sympathetic type of person. Every baht

they put in my guitar box, I really appreciate and it means a lot to me. Although there may be some day that I received such little, I’m still happy to perform to them. I feel that I owed people at JJ market a lot, I feel gratitude to them, the day that I will stop performing is the day that I died”.

Little Ice is 5 years old, but he sings numbers of Thai oldies like “The Impossible” very impressively.

“I really love singing, when Uncle Teh ask me to join him here, I was so delighted” Little Ice told us while having a mouthful of ice-cream.

Uncle Teh handpicked the songs that Little Ice sings, including hits during Uncle Teh’s time. He says old songs have beautiful and meaningful lyrics and he wants his nephew to sing it properly just like the way it is.

Uncle Teh says he will continue to perform as long as he can, or until little Ice is grown enough to choose whatever he wants to be. “But if his heart is still in love with music” Uncle Teh says “we will continue to sing and perform here from our heart too”.

I’ve played Ranat for one year, I perform here every Saturday and Sunday. I like to play Ranat because I love Thai musical instrument and I like the film “The Overture” (Home Rong) very much”.

The young ranat players astonished most of the passerbys. Looking at his money bag, we estimate that Chanajai receive no less than one hundred baht for each song he performed.

“My mom and dad will keep the money for me and will spend it for my education expense. I have such a great time performing here. Although by the end of the day, I feel very tired, when I see people come to see my performance and give me money, I’m eager to play again.

Chanajai’s mom said she never forced him to perform here, he is free to make his own decision, but she admits that her son did help her family a lot in making more money. She said Chanajai helps relieve the burden of family expenses in the time of economic hardship.

Chanajai’s playlist include familiar Thai classics such as “Ka Nam Nom” and “Kang Kao Kin Gluay”.

In the future, Chanajai’s mom said it’s up to his son to make his decision if he would like to continue to perform, and said that money is not the utmost objective to be here, but because she is very proud of her son’s interest in music. She hopes Chanajai will continue to do so, because she knows the crowds love her little young talented boy.

The Blue Mountain Boy If you enter JJ market using the entrance of Pahonyothin road, especially during late afternoon, you will sure stop by to listen to music from a band playing instruments like banjo, mandolin, violin and guitar. This maybe the only country music band in JJ market.

Apart from the lively and enthusiastic bluegrass sound, what makes this band different from others is their style. Dressed in a cowboy outfits with hats, country-western shirts and colorful bandannas, these rodeos has been playing country music for decades.

“We sell cowboy-related stuffs as well as continue to perform country music that we love, because we want to help preserve this kind of music which in Thailand, is gradually fading away. What we play is called “Bluegrass” music, which is a form of country music with a sound of blues.

The music tells stories about the beauty of nature like mountains, forests, blue sky, cowboy tending cattles and horses in a big ranches. It’s simply just the way of life of rural Americans” Thanat Asawanontwiwat or “Thorn”, leading member of the band told us.

“JJ market is a wonderful place for performances, we are happy to see shoppers stop by to hear our music although they don’t buy anything from our shop. We want to give something back to them and that is our music” Thorn adds.

“We have many members playing in this band, most of them are partners of this shop. We also play at a country pub in Bangkok’s Suthisan area at night.

“We would like to thank JJ market for giving us the opportunity to stand up and make our own living. We don’t know how long we will be performing here, but as long as our cowboy blood runs deep, you will still see us here at Jatujak.

บายแกๆ ของวัน อาทิตยที่ลมเย็นยังคงลอเลนผิวกาย ใหพอทุเลาแรงรอนของแดด ณ โครงการ 1 หนาราน “อนุมาศ จอมคำ” ในเจเจ ซึ่งจำหนายของตกแตงบาน สไตลงานไมแบบ โบราณ ดิฉันเห็นเธอยืนเลือกซื้อแจกัน ใบขนาดยอมๆ หนึ่งใบ จึงไมรอชาตรง ดิ่งเขาไปเปดบทสนทนา “ปุก-วรามาศ ฉิมณรงค” คือชื่อของเธอ ปจจุบัน ทำงานอยูโคราชโนน แตสมัยเรียนและเคยทำงานอยูที่กรุงเทพฯ เธอเปนขาชอป เจาประจำ ที่เริงราอยในเจเจนี่แหละ ครั้งนี้มีโอกาสจากการเดินทางมาประชุมที่ กรุงเทพฯ โปรแกรมเที่ยวที่พลาดไมไดของเธอจึงปนที่คุนเคยแหงนี้

เธอเลาวามาเดินดูของไปเรื่อยเปอย แตที่ตองมาหยุดยืนชื่มชมทุกครั้ง ที่มาคือ ของตกแตงบานเกาๆ เหตุที่ชอบของเกาก็เพราะดูขลังดี ดูกี่ทีก็ไมเบื่อ ยิ่งเปนงานไม ยิ่งชอบ เพราะเปนงานที่ทำมาจากธรรมชาติ (ปุกแอบกระซิบ บอกวา แตบางทีงานไมก็ผสมอยางอื่นลงไปดวยนะ ขอบอกๆ) แลวงานไมยงั เหมือนเปนเพื่อน รูสึกวาตัวเองเคยผานยุคนี้มากอน “เชื่อมั้ยวา ดูจนแยกออก วาเกาจริงหรือเปลา” (หูยยย) แตจะเกาจริง ไมเกาจริงยังไงก็เถอะ ปุกก็ยัง บอกวา ถาชอบซะอยางไมจำกัดวาจะเกาจากกาลเวลา หรือเกาจากฝมือใคร ขอเพียงพอใจก็ไมเกี่ยง ราคาก็ไมเกี่ยวเชนกัน เพราะมั่นใจวา ที่เจเจ ของถูก อยูแลว แถมตอไดดวย เธอบอกวาเสนหของที่นี่ก็อยูตรงนี้แหละ พูดถึงเสนหแลว ก็ขอถามความเห็นเกี่ยวกับเสนหของเจเจกับปุกซะเลย เธอวาอยางแรกเลยคือ “คน” ที่เดินผานไปผานมานี่แหละ ทำใหที่นี่มีชีวิต ได เห็นอะไรแปลกๆ ใหมๆ มีเรื่องราวที่บอกตอกันปากตอปาก จากคนหนึ่งไปอีก คนหนึ่ง จุดไหนมีอะไร แปบเดียว เดี๋ยวรูหมด นอกจากนี้ที่นี่ มีสินคาใหเลือก หลากหลาย ที่เดนๆ ก็คือของเกาที่เธอชอบ แลวยังมีหนังสือเกา และมีตนไม ใครอยากไดของพวกนี้ ก็ตองนึกถึงเจเจนี่แหละคะ กอนจบการสนทนาเธอยังบอกทริคพิเศษสำหรับชอปในเจเจอีกวา ควร “ปุก” วรามาศ ฉิมณรงค เดินเวลาบายคลอยๆ เพราะแดดรมลมตก ชอปแลวไมเสียอารมณ เดิน เพลินๆ ใจเย็นๆ แลวจะไดของดีๆ และ ชวงตนเดือน กับสิ้นเดือนเปนเวลาที่เงินเดือนออก การจับจายจะสะพัดนักแล ที่นี่จะคราคร่ำไปดวยคนมากมาย ถาไม ชอบเดินตอนคนเยอะๆ แนะนำใหเก็บตังคมาชอปชวงกลางเดือนคะ เดินสบายกวาแยะ อีกทริคหนึ่งที่ปุกแอบกระซิบ (อีกแลว)ก็คือมาที่นี่แนะนำใหตอรองราคานะคะ เพราะเจเจไมเหมือนหางทั่วไป ที่ตอใหตายก็ไมลด ดังนั้นที่เจเจ ตอโลดเลยคะ เพราะที่นี่มักจะบอกราคาสูงกวาที่ควรประมาณ 10-20% ก็ขอลด 10-20% นี่แหละยังไงก็ลดไดอยูแลว (เอออ...ขอใหไดตอจริงๆ นะคะ โอมเพี้ยง !!)

“Puk” Waramas Chimnarong: falls for old furnitures ‘Anuman Jomcome’ She said that she was just loitering around but she always stopped by here to enjoy herself with these aged-home decorating goods. Her reason was that they looked very respectably somber and not easily boring after so many looks, especially wood-work items as there were from the nature(Puk quietly whispered that sometimes some wood-work was secretly mixed with other materials as well-let me tell you.. ) Also wooden pieces have this friendly feeling as she recalled her experience passing this same era before. “Do you believe me that I have seen enough to be able to differentiate between the authentic and the made-up ones?”(WOW!!!) However, whether or not those were real antiques, Puk still liked them. As long as she liked that piece it didn’t matter whether it was old from ages or from someone’s hand. If satisfied, the price was not important either as she was so sure that the price at “JJ” was always cheap and very bargainable already. “The charm of the place is this.” said Puk. Before ending the conversation, she shared with us the special tips for JJ shoppers as follows; shop later in the afternoon before dusk as the weather is not extremely hot and makes shopping more enjoyable and that may reflect in good selection too. Also at the beginning or the end of the month when people receive their salary, the place is always crowded with various kinds of shoppers. If you don’t care for lots of people, then she suggest you save up your money for mid-month shopping as it is much easier to stroll around.

Another trick that Puk secretly suggested(again) is ‘bargain’ as JJ is not like any department store where the price is not bargainable. Hence, bargain away at JJ as the price is always set at the 10 to 20 percents higher than it should. This 10 to 20 percents are always discoutable by default already.(uh.. I hope you all can bargain it down though!!!)

“Ae+”, Patikorn Mekmontien: here is full of ‘Intellectual Properties” His name is ‘AE+’, Patikorn Mekmontien, an Interior Designer, who together with other 3 friends of his, was looking for Interior Designing books for some new ideas to be applied to his new works. Said he, “at JJ, there are lots of good used books un-purchasable elsewhere or also lots of books published in other languages. For today, he was specifically there to look for foreign books with reasons that there are full of new ideas unlike the Thai ones(he quickly hushed his mouth. So this statement is CENSORED then. Hee..hee.) I couldn’t help wondering if he was looking for new ideas why looking from this heap of old magazines!! He digressed that for Interior Design, it is like a circle always comes back in full. Thing that is once old will well become new again later on (um...old book is forever) During our conversation on ‘Shopping at JJ’, I was so impressed with his reflection of JJ. “One charm of JJ is a place full intellectual properties as there are lots and various.” Ae+ said that all nook and cranny of this place consists of information that can be used and/or extended. He urged me to look around. It’s true as Ae+ said, surrounding me were lots of intellectual properties(as I was standing in the middle of zillions of books, mind you.)
