NOTES FROM THE BOSS DEAN GIBSON
The Hibernian Head Coach on a solid derby win and the final match of the 2020/21 season.
It was a comfortable performance last weekend - we kept the ball & moved Hearts about really well. I would maybe have liked us to be slightly more creative, but that’s only being picky. We scored two great goals & could have scored two or three more. As a team, we defend very well and we're a hard team to break down. We give ourselves a great platform to build off of. It starts from the striker and works right down to the goalkeeper. The biggest thing is the players taking pride in keeping clean sheets and that’s definitely the case for us. Winning derbies is always a good feeling. They are the games that get the most attention out of all the fixtures in the season. We have played three this season and been on the end of both sides of the result, and losing that fixture isn’t something we want to feel again. The players know how important it is to win these games. We have had a good week's preparation for this weekend's game. It’s important we finish the season off strongly & that starts on the Tuesday at training. The players' standards in everything they do is excellent. Hopefully, fans can expect a winning end to the season. We want to end on three points but also a decent performance. Our plan this weekend is to win and win in style. We want to go out on a high.
THE CHANGING ROOM RACHAEL BOYLE Rachael discussess the concluding league campaign, this weekend's match and looks ahead to next season.
It's been a long, strange season and Rachael Boyle is well aware of the challenges it has thrown up, but feels fortunate to have completed the campaign after such uncertainty: "I’ve personally found this season very challenging mentally, as there has been a lot of stop/start and uncertainty. However, we are very fortunate that we were able to return and complete a full season, as the lower divisions across the country have been made to wait." Last weekend saw Hibs run out as 2-0 winners with a solid performance over city rivals Hearts - Rachael plans on taking the positives from the match to secure a positive result this Sunday: "We will be looking to go out on a high this Sunday. We will be looking to win the game as we always do, but will aim to do it by playing some good attacking football." As the season draws to a close, Rachael has begun to think ahead to next year, in which she believes that Hibs can add attacking returns to their solid defensive performances and be in the conversation for the league title: "As thoughts begin to turn to next season, we are really just looking to build on the solid foundations we have created this season. As the campaign has went on, we have come together closer as a group and that shows in our defensive performances. However, next year, we will be looking to create some attacking threat so we can start to climb back up the league and aim to put up a title challenge."
